Unlike standard chess, a pawn may be promoted only to a captured piece of the same colour. (So, it is impossible for either side to own two queens, or two marshals, or three rooks, etc.) If, and for as long as, no captured piece is available to promote to, a pawn on a player's ninth rank must stay on the ninth rank, but it can still give check. As in standard chess: pawns can move one or two squares on their first move; pawns can capture en passant; checkmate is a win; stalemate is a draw. There is no castling in grand chess.

The promotion rule in Western chess does not apply to all regional forms of the game. Most (although not all) regional variants do include some kind of promotion in their set of rules but it varies considerably depending on the region. In chaturanga, which is widely considered to be the common ancestor of all variants of chess, pawns were promoted upon reaching the last rank of the board (like in Western chess); however, there is a dispute as to what the pawns could be promoted to. Some sources state that a pawn could only promote to a mantri - an early form of the modern-day queen, which could only move one square diagonally.

OneByOne, an ex-gay organization, hosts a booth at a Love Won Out conference For some ex-gay groups, choosing not to act on one's same-sex desires counts as a success whereas conversion therapists tend to understand success in terms of reducing or eliminating those desires. For example, some ex-gays in mixed- orientation marriages acknowledge that their sexual attractions remain primarily homosexual, but seek to make their marriages work regardless. Ex-gay advocates sometimes compare adopting the label "ex-gay" to the coming out process. Some conservative Christian political and social lobbying groups such as Focus on the Family, the Family Research Council, and the American Family Association actively promote to their constituencies the accounts of change of both conversion therapies and ex-gay groups.

As it is the lowest division of Thai football, the clubs which are still in the division, and new ones which participate in the tournament by sending applications to the Football Association of Thailand, will take part of the tournament. The first round is the group stage, played in a round-robin basis, and the clubs are divided into groups of 3 or 4. The winners and the runners-up of each group qualify to the knock-out stage. Only the best eight, or the quarter- finalist clubs, of the tournament promote to the Khor Royal Cup next season, while there's no relegation and the remaining clubs are still in this division until they can reach the quarter-final round or promotional spots.

Born in Covilhã, Real started playing amateur football with locals of A.D. Estação. In 2003, at the age of 20, he switched to city giants Sporting Clube, twice helping them promote to the second division. In the summer of 2008, after a solid season – his second promotion – which brought him six goals in 25 matches, Real moved to the Primeira Liga, with Associação Naval 1º de Maio. His first year was quite unassuming, as he had to wait until 15 February 2009 to make his league debut, playing eight minutes in a 2–2 away draw against C.D. Trofense. In the 2009–10 campaign, with Naval again retaining its top level status, Real appeared more, but remained a fringe player nonetheless.

A dangling pawn or hanging pawn (垂れ歩/たれ歩 tarefu or 垂らし歩 tarashifu) is a pawn that is dropped in a position in which it can promote (to a と tokin) in the player's next move. (The act of dangling the pawn is 垂らし tarashi.) Although dropping a dangling pawn may not be an immediate threat to an opponent, the later threat of promotion can be a greater danger. For example, in the diagrams below, Black is attempting to break through White's camp along the second file at 23 with a dropped pawn supported by a rook on 28. If Black drops the pawn on 23, White can retreat their bishop to 31 and since the pawn can only attack forward it does not threaten Black's gold on 32.
Banfield did not have a good beginning during this decade, even playing in the relegation zone. The only notable moment was in the 1990–91 tournament, where the team reached the finals although it could not promote to Primera. For the 1992–93 season and with Suárez again as president (having been elected in 1991 for a fifth run), Banfield designed Carlos Babington as coach and acquired experienced players such as former River Plate goalkeeper Gabriel Puentedura, midfielder Fabio Lenguita and defender Gabriel Stafuza (who had played for Boca Juniors in the 1980s). Those footballers, plus some youth players such as Javier Sanguinetti (who made the highest number of appearances for the club to date, with over 450 matches) and Jorge Jiménez, helped Banfield to win the title and promotion to Primera División, after defeating Colón de Santa Fe in the finals.

More experienced Siavalas, Boutos, Lellis, Stergiadis, and Argiroulis formed the backbone on which, as time went on, had positive impact for the team. Of course, the great breakthrough was made a year later by President Elias Kelesidis and his colleagues in the administration, when they decided to promote to the first team all of the youth squad of AEL, and collect all the talents that admittedly stood well in the Thessalian prefecture. Thus, on 26 May 1977, in a friendly match against AEK (the first under spotlights in Alcazar stadium), AEL lined up with Anagnostou, Mousouris and 9 native players from Larissa's region. Among them, unknown then, Takis Parafestas, Giannis Valaoras, Dimitris Koukoulitsios and Christos Andreoudis...It was indisputably a healthy set of factors and players, which united the common goal and vision of the entire city, to create a "model- team".

Bar'am is a fundamental experience for Farah, he testified that "I often start out as a simple cube, reminiscent of my grandfather's house." In his work, "A Model for Repair" (2010), Farah builds Bar’am on its ruins by models, etchings, various actions, video works and photographs, creating an imagined space that simultaneously coexists as memory and dream and as an explicit and practical proposal for return. Farah 's move joins a long list of community, private, artistic and legal projects initiated and initiators by the people of Kfar Bar’am in order to fight the displacement of the village' s remains and promote to return to it. In this work, Farah analyzes the remains of the historic village and proposes planning for the future development of the place, attesting to a certain utopian dimension in his work and his perception.
