MacNab`s Positive Space Group is intended to help MacNab be a school that is free of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identities; allows all students to feel included and welcomed so they may focus their energies on academic objectives as well as partake in school social life and co-curricular activities; allows all members of the school community to feel welcomed and included in order to create positive learning and workplace environments; decreases fear and disapproval of sexual and gender diversity; encourages inclusion of LGBTQ peoples’ lives, politics, culture and families. The residences for students are anticipated as not just hostels with long corridors but rather as homes, shared by 25-30 people. These courtyard homes are put together forming a hierarchy of communities. When a cluster of homes come together they start sharing sports facilities such as badminton courts and playgrounds. Gego's idea of a series artworks that would be titled "Drawings Without Paper" reflects on her view of space. Gego considered space as its own form; as if her artwork was occupying the artwork of the room itself. The "Guns in the Hands of Artists" project was conceived by artist Brian Borrello in the mid 1990s, and started in 1996; the exhibit saw artists convert decommissioned guns into artworks as an expression of gun violence in the United States. Borrello acquired decommissioned guns obtained through a trade-in program, then gave them to New Orleans-based artists, who converted them into artworks in a variety of media, including fashion, photography, and sculpture. The exhibit showcased at Positive Space Gallery, which was operated by Jonathan Ferrara. Borrello relocated to Portland, Oregon, where he executed another iteration of the exhibit.

Day often employed popular design motifs such as ogee curves, serpentine curvatures, and spur motifs; the latter two are commonly seen on Day's chairs. With each of his personal stylistic motifs, Day worked to create balance within motion, and method and symmetry within improvisational spontaneity in his furniture. Another common design tool employed by Day is the interplay between positive and negative space, where positive space is created by actual wood, and negative space is created by the empty spaces between wooden elements on his pieces. By bordering the positive spaces on his furniture with curvatures, Day formed eye-catching negative spaces as well that were meant to again create a sense of balance within the piece.

Rayside joined the University of Toronto in 1974, and for over thirty years has taught and written on the politics of sexual diversity, gender, and religion. He was a member of the Right to Privacy Committee, a committee formed in response to police raids on gay bathhouses, The Body Politic, one of Canada's first and most influential LGBT magazines, the Citizens' Independent Review of Police Activities, and the campaign to add sexual orientation to the Ontario Human Rights Code. He was also a cofounder of the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Studies Association, and of the Positive Space Campaign at the University of Toronto. He has served on the boards of the Canadian Political Science Association and the American Political Science Association, and in both organizations has worked on committees promoting equity in academic life.

She taught ESL, trained ESL/EFL teachers, and published ESL textbooks, founded and coordinated the School of Labour at George Brown College in Toronto, and for over eight years, was the college's multicultural/anti-racism coordinator. For her last four years at George Brown, she was part of a four-person team offering "Positive Space" workshops to bring visibility and support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirit and queer/questioning students and staff. Hynes has also taught creative non- fiction and personal narrative in the Creative Writing program at the University of Toronto's School of Continuing Studies, and gives frequent workshops in poetry and creative writing. She has also been an active member of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, a board member of Mayworks, Toronto's annual Festival of Working People and the Arts, and of the Centre for Study of Education and Work (CSEW) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.
