In 2014, Nick Simmons, better known as YBN Nahmir, met YBN Almighty Jay on the video game Grand Theft Auto V. Nahmir later introduced Almighty Jay to his close friend YBN Glizzy, that he met on a San Andreas roleplay for Grand Theft Auto Online through an Xbox Looking for Group post. YBN was originally a gaming collective where Nahmir and his friends played video games, recorded videos and uploaded their videos to YouTube and streamed on Twitch. In 2015, Nahmir and Almighty Jay eventually decided to record a song after freestyling in Xbox Live group chats. The song, titled "Hood Mentality", was both of the artists' first song, and the start of the collective's move away from video games and towards music.

In 2013, struggling to put a show together for the Edinburgh Fringe, McNeil (a lover of video-games) & Sam Pamphilon decided to create a show where comedians played video-games for entertainment: In the show, McNeil & Pamphilon Go 8 Bit, audiences were split into two teams, Team McNeil and Team Pamphilon, and would watch top-name comedians go head-to-head in classic retro games including Street Fighter and Bomberman. Comedians Richard Soames, Nish Kumar and Paul Foxcroft often joined as commentators with support from Guy Kelly and resident 'Punishment Twat' Will Heartley. The captain and/or comedian of whichever team lost the round would have to suffer a forfeit such as eating a bowl of jalapeños or drinking a sardine smoothie.

Nigri has worked as an interviewer for media outlets such as GameZone, RUGGED TV, and Comic Book Therapy. She also starred in several commercial video advertisements and music videos, and did charity work. Aside from appearing on the PDS in the past, Nigri is a friend of DeFranco, including having her merchandise hosted in his store ForHumanPeoples, Nigri opened her own online poster store, named NIGRI PLEASE!. According to PlayStation Official Magazine, Nigri is "not just a cosplayer but also a massive gamer"; she says she has played video games since her early childhood, starting at an age of seven and having been first exposed to them by her father.

Game creator Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene at the 2018 Game Developers Conference The game's concept and design was led by Brendan Greene, better known by his online handle PlayerUnknown, who had previously created the ARMA 2 mod DayZ: Battle Royale, an offshoot of popular mod DayZ, and inspired by the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale. At the time he created DayZ: Battle Royale, around 2013, Irish-born Greene had been living in Brazil for a few years as a photographer, graphic designer, and web designer, and played video games such as Delta Force: Black Hawk Down and America's Army. The DayZ mod caught his interest, both as a realistic military simulation and its open-ended gameplay, and started playing around with a custom server, learning programming as he went along. Greene found most multiplayer first-person shooters too repetitive, considering maps small and easy to memorize.

Previously, Edwards had never played video games; but he became a fan soon after receiving the job, primarily by studying about the games in the rotation and reading gaming magazines; he would give his own hints to contestants, was once featured in a "Starcade Hotline" segment playing and beating the notoriously-difficult game Sinistar, and remained a fan of games up until his death in 2014. The show's original theme was an eight-bit melody similar to those heard in various arcade games of the time. Halfway through Richards' run, the theme was changed to one composed by "Mindseed" (Ed and Joanne Anderson), who were also employed by Data East at the time and who also composed the music for Venture and Mouse Trap for Exidy. Occasionally, special episodes were produced such as team episodes, and others in which only one game was played repeatedly through the entire episode.

She revealed that she often spend at least three or more hours per day on average playing her favourite esports games such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Super Mario Brothers, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto V. As of May 2020, she was reported to have had over 250, 000 subscribers on YouTube and as of June 2020, she had approximately 300, 000 subscribers.
