City West was a community of 15-20 households platted at the mouth of Fort Creek, in the present-day Indiana Dunes State Park. Founded and platted in 1836, it collapsed in the aftermath of the panic of 1837, and was fully abandoned by 1839. The remaining buildings were destroyed by fire in 1854.
Retrieved on June 1, 2012. a River Oaks developer, platted Garden Villas in 1926 and planted nearly 6,000 pecan trees in the neighborhood. An Englishman and Rice Institute graduate, Edward Wilkinson, worked as the staff architect of Garden Villas. Hallsville was laid out in 1866. It was named for its first postmaster, Judge John W. Hall. The town was not platted originally, having grown naturally at a crossroads around a store and blacksmith. The Columbia Terminal Railroad platted the town of Hickman and installed a depot a half mile south, but Hallsville grew and Hickman did not.

Guthrie Center was platted in 1856. It was named for Capt. Edwin B. Guthrie. The railroad was built through the settlement in 1879.
Burt was platted in 1881 when the railroad was extended to that point. It was named for Horace G. Burt, a railroad official.
St. George was platted in 1857. The town was moved about a mile in 1879 in order to be on the new railroad.
The city of Massena was platted by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad on land purchased from A. Vredenburgh in 1883 and 1884 that included most of Section 33 of Cass County. The incorporated city was platted in 1886. The first meeting of the city council was on March 21, 1887 and a special election was held on December 10, 1887 to enlarge the corporate limits to include all of section 33. The city was platted with the name of "Smith", but the post office authorities refused the name because of another city with a similar spelling.
In 1876, Judson Kingsley platted Kingsley Station as a new village under the name of Kingsley. In 1874, Brownson, a practicing medic from Steuben County, New York, bought land adjacent to that of Kingsley. In July 1882, Brownson platted his land into a new settlement he called Paradise. In 1893, the villages of Kingsley and Paradise united under the name of Kingsley.
The Waverley Historic District is located in Enid, Oklahoma, and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) since 2006. It consists of four Waverley additions. The William and Luther Braden farm was the first parcel of land to be platted by the Waverley Development Company in May 1902. Subsequent additions were platted in 1905, 1906, and 1907.
Campau surveyed and platted the village following Native American trails and Lyon had platted his property in an English grid format, which meant there were two adjoining villages, with different platting formats. Campau later merged the villages under the name of Grand Rapids. In 1831, it was set off from Kalamazoo County. In 1838, Grand Rapids was incorporated as the county's first village.
Canal Fulton traces its history to three villages that developed along the Tuscarawas River. Milan was platted on March 23, 1814, by Matthew Rowland who arrived by ox team. It was the first settlement west of the Tuscarawas River in Stark County. Fulton was platted on May 16, 1826, changed its name to Canal Fulton in 1832, and later incorporated as a village.
Arden sits on acreage which was originally part of the Walter Johnson farm. In 1910, were sold by the Johnsons to the Van Sants for their family estate. In 1922, the Van Sants platted a small subdivision on and the Johnsons platted a larger subdivision on of their farm. Both subdivisions failed and resulted in only a single house being built in 1927.
The subdivision where these buildings stood was platted in 1878 by Joseph B.H. Bratshaw. in 1882, Bratshaw transferred the property to his daughter Sarah A. Sampson and Susan M. Swales. The land was re-platted in 1888, and in 1903 Swales transferred her interest in the property to Sampson. Sarah A. Sampson was prominent suffragist, and active in politics in Detroit.
Their former fields were platted into house lots and streets. By 1892 one-third of the land in Waite Park had been platted. Some farmers continued to hold against the advancing city, the last being the Ritchels who remained until the 1940s. The Minneapolis St Paul and Sault Ste Marie Railway, which still runs through the neighborhood, was also completed in 1887.

Estherville's square was platted as a four- block square, but its development created a double square instead. Hampton has the only symmetrical double square plan in the state. The double square exemplifies the two primary functions of a public square, both commercial and public development. The district's period of significance is from 1856, when it was of platted, to 1935 when the last public building was constructed.
Summum takes its name from the Summum post office, which predated the town and took its name from early postmaster Peter Summy. The town was officially platted in 1851 by local mill owner James Madison Onion. The platted town was given the name "Oberlin," but that name never came into common usage. In the late 19th century, Summum had a population of approximately 200.
In 1967, Lee Stubblefield (a retired Air Force officer) purchased the ranch for $2,000,000 and formed the Colorado Western Development Company. Mr. Stubblefield platted the current layout of Perry Park Ranch. The Perry Park Country Club was also developed during this time and opened in 1971. The platted area within the park continues to be developed by outside real estate investors and future residents.
Ogden was originally called Middletown, and under the latter name was laid out and platted in 1829. When it was discovered that nearby Middletown, Henry County, Indiana had been platted two months prior, the town was renamed in honor of an engineer on the National Road project. David Newton Tallman (1872-1958) built the State Bank of Antler building. Tallman had founded the Dakota Development Company which platted towns in North Dakota along the Great Northern Railway. In 1905, the town of Antler was platted by the company. The Tallman Invest Co. of which he was president and treasurer was formed and a large number of banks were established in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana.
The school district and community are named after Lake Fenton, formerly known as Long Lake. A community was platted as "Mount Pleasant" by John Cook in 1840, with a second plat added in 1845. Mount Ephraim was platted in 1838 by Ephraim Vorhies, and named for him. A post office was established at Mount Ephraim in 1843, and remained in operation until 1955.

Steamboat Rock was platted in 1855. It was named from a large rock on the river bluff which is said to resemble a queue of steamboats from a distance.
Portland was first settled in the 1830s. Milling operations began along the Looking Glass River near this district in 1836, and the first portion of the village of Portland was platted in 1837. The section of Portland encompassing the business district was platted in 1838. Around the same time, the first building in the district was erected by William R. Churchill at what is now the east corner of Kent and Bridge Streets.
Voigt platted spacious lots and set building restrictions that established the unique character of the neighborhood. His vision was followed by Truman and John Newberry, who platted the West Boston Boulevard Subdivision between Hamilton and 12th Street (now "Rosa Parks Boulevard") in 1913. In 1830, a group of white settlers arrived to farm the area that was then known as "Gull Prairie." In 1832 and 1833, small settlements were platted to the north and south of what is now Richland. Neither attracted many inhabitants, but instead newcomers settled along the crossroads in between. A small public square at the corner was platted out, and in use as a public gathering place by the mid-1830s.
Two villages grew up, fairly close together: Orono (platted 1855); and Elk River Village (platted 1865). Their growth was such that by 1867 a county vote moved the county seat from Humboldt to Elk River (designated as "The Lower Town" in the vote, to distinguish it from nearby Orono. The two villages merged under the name 'Elk River' in 1881). Also in 1867, the village of Humboldt changed its name to Big Lake.

Richville was platted in 1903, and named for Watson Wellman Rich, a railroad engineer. A post office has been in operation at Richville since 1904. Richville was incorporated in 1904.

Bryantsburg is an unincorporated community in Monroe Township, Jefferson County, Indiana. Bryantsburg was platted on March 5, 1834, by Jacob Bryant with 32 lots. Thomas Bell platted an 11-lot addition on March 25, 1851; Robert Kinnear, an addition of eight lots on June 27–28, 1853. Bryantsburg had a post office from June 10, 1834, to December 12, 1856; Jan. 18, 1858, through Dec. 10, 1872, and finally from March 1, 1873, through June 29, 1907.
Brunswick, platted in 1856, is located within Brunswick Township. The community is located in Section 1 of the township, but its history begins with the Hersey, Staples and Bean Lumber Company who had their logging headquarters in Section 12 of the township. George and Isaac Staples platted the community's site, naming it after Brunswick, Maine. With stores, post office and mills located in Brunswick, it became the county seat for Kanabec County on March 13, 1859.
Tibbetts founded the first flour mill on the east side of the Willamette, planted extensive orchards, and raised hay on part of his claim.
