The Tanzanian Pill Bug Millipede, (Arthrosphaera brandtii), is a species of pill millipedes in the family Arthrosphaeridae. It is found in many African countries, Asian countries such as India and Sri Lanka. It is about 3–4 cm in length. Adult is pale brown color with black lines in between the segments, whereas juveniles are dark brown.

Armadillidium depressum is a large pill bug, up to long. Females are somewhat variable in colour, but males are uniformly slate grey. It cannot roll up into a perfect ball, but leaves its antennae and telson exposed. In the British Isles, it is only found in South West England and South Wales, but is also found in Belgium, France and Italy.

Humpback anglerfish: Melanocetus johnsonii The term deep-sea gigantism describes an effect that living at such depths has on some creatures' sizes, especially relative to the size of relatives that live in different environments. These creatures are generally many times bigger than their counterparts. The giant isopod (related to the common pill bug) exemplifies this. Unlike other terrestrial arthropods such as insects and spiders, pill bugs do not have a waxy cuticle that would reduce evaporation from their bodies. Pill bugs also use modified lungs, called pseudotrachea, for respiration, and the lungs must remain moist to function. Individual pill bugs typically live for two or three years, and females brood eggs once or twice each summer. Several hundred eggs are brooded at a time in the marsupium, a pocket on the ventral side of the female pill bug.

Cuckoo Wasp on pine needle, North Carolina Piedmont Members of the largest subfamily, Chrysidinae, are the most familiar; they are generally kleptoparasites, laying their eggs in host nests, where their larvae consume the host egg or larva while it is still young, then the food provided by the host for its own juvenile. Chrysidines are distinguished from the members of other subfamilies in that most have flattened or concave lower abdomens and can curl into a defensive ball when attacked by a potential host, in the manner of a pill bug. Members of the other subfamilies are parasitoids, of either sawflies or walking sticks, cannot fold up into a ball. Chrysidids are always solitary.
