After the appointment of al-Hajjaj as governor of Iraq and the eastern provinces of the Caliphate in 694, relations between the haughty and overbearing al-Hajjaj and the Iraqi nobility quickly became strained. Nevertheless, in 699 or 700, al-Hajjaj appointed Ibn al-Ash'ath as commander of a huge Iraqi army, the so-called "Peacock Army", to subdue the troublesome principality of Zabulistan, whose ruler, the , vigorously resisted Arab expansion. During the campaign, al-Hajjaj's overbearing behaviour caused Ibn al-Ash'ath and the army to rebel. After patching up an agreement with the , the army started on its march back to Iraq.

Steel Wheels is the 19th British and 21st American studio album by the English rock band the Rolling Stones. Sid Sorokin, the new superintendent at the Sleep Tite pajama factory, finds himself patching up endless little problems caused by the cheapskate policies of his boss, Myron Hasler, acting for T. J. O'Hara, the owner who is taking a long vacation in the middle of nowhere. Hasler is a devotee of conservative radio pundit Fulton Lewis, ardently anti-union, and a self-proclaimed "fighter", but with no previous experience in the garment industry. Sorokin begins dating worker Catherine "Babe" Williams about the time the union is pushing for the same cents-per-hour raise that other garment workers have been receiving. Rejected flat-out by Hasler, Williams leads the workers in a slowdown.

On 3 November 2007, Parliamentary Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi told the pan-Arab Arabiya television in an interview that he had "question marks" about the Prime Minister's decisions. A transcript of the interview was published in Alrai daily, which included Al-Kharafi's comment that too many reshuffles necessitate "a review and an evaluation of what measures should be taken." Al- Kharafi said the reshuffle should not have been put off for the whole summer and that it indicated a "policy of patching" up problems, rather than solving them. In response, Prime Minister Nasser issued a statement about Al-Kharafi to the state-owned Kuwait News Agency, which was splashed on the front pages of daily newspapers.

Sheriff Tom visits Cal at the clinic while he's patching up Ellie, who insists on pressing charges against Nicky for assault. Tom asks if she is overreacting, and Ellie accuses him of having feelings for Nicky, but he denies it. Cal gets a call from Doc who says Jake is getting worse, and that the bite had an unusual amount of venom in it, and says that while they have no more antivenom, he'll be back in the morning and they should be fine.

"Saudamini" (Shabana Azmi) is a bright village girl with academic ambitions and an appetite for literature and philosophy. Her intellectual uncle (Utpal Dutt) indulges her brainy bent, encouraging her studies and patching up the petty ongoing conflicts with her mother, a pious widow whose only concern is to see Mini married, and quickly. In the end, Quicksands hopes that a night of undisturbed sleep will restore his bride's modesty; Millicent has the last word with a closing couplet: "[...] to bed, to bed, / No bride so glad – to keep her maidenhead." Rather than turn whore, Phyllis becomes the new lady's maid to Lucy; she quickly divines Lucy's love for Arthur, and is happy to promote it. Theophilus dislikes Phyllis's talkativeness and informality, and angrily dismisses the new maid; but he has no trouble patching up his quarrel with Nathaniel. Quicksands has no luck at managing his new wife: after he foolishly accuses her of complicity with the masquers of the previous day, the offended Millicent gains his vow to respect her virginity for the next month.

In October 2007, Ginsburg claimed that Miller had left the band after it was reported that a "physical altercation" had broken about. Miller explained that he had confronted Ginsburg and Margera after he heard them say some "extremely personal, painful things" about him, and that he was considering returning to the group after dealing with his increasing problems with alcohol abuse.
