ISMMS's medical curriculum is based on the standard program of medical education in the United States: the first two years of study are confined to the medical sciences, the latter to the study of clinical sciences. The first and second years are strictly pass/fail; the third and fourth years feature clinical rotations at Mount Sinai Hospital and affiliate hospitals, including Elmhurst Hospital Center, Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens, and James J. With very little network overhead and a 100 Mbit/s data rate, it is significantly faster than GPIB and 100BaseT Ethernet in real applications. The advantage of this platform is that all connected instruments behave as one tightly integrated multi-channel system, so users can scale their test system to fit their required channel counts cost- effectively. A system configured on this type of platform can stand alone as a complete measurement and automation solution, with the master unit controlling sourcing, measuring, pass/fail decisions, test sequence flow control, binning, and the component handler or prober. Support for dedicated trigger lines means that synchronous operations between multiple instruments equipped with onboard Test Script Processors that are linked by this high speed bus can be achieved without the need for additional trigger connections.

Immediately following the announcement by USMLE that Step 1 would become pass/fail in 2022, student outcry from the IMG (International Medical Graduate) community began over Twitter as well as several different international USMLE Step 1 groups and forums. International students expressed frustration and anger with ECFMG's statement, "The ECFMG supports the informed decision making of the NBME and FSMB Boards on these policy changes. We are looking forward to continually advocating for international graduates as well as participating in the important future conversations on residency selection and transition" due to growing concerns that the change will further decrease IMG chances of matching into US residency programs. Historically, IMGs have been at a significant disadvantage when applying to residency programs in the US. Program directors have been known to place a high emphasis on letters of recommendation, clinical grades, and research.

Most ESG students are first-year students interested in a more pro-active approach to their education, who concentrate on core MIT subjects in biology, chemistry, humanities, mathematics, and physics as an alternative to the large lecture classes taken by other classmates. Current educational experimentation at ESG includes training students to teach, having freshman develop context-related problem sets, and creating videotapes of ESG students teaching core math and science concepts (ESGx). Each spring, ESG offers a series of half-credit, pass-fail seminars (funded by ESG alumni) on a variety of unique subjects, some of which are developed and taught by MIT upperclassmen. In the spring of 2012, seminars were run on: The Art and Science of Happiness, Polymath: The World in 10 Curves, Beyond a Website, The Chemistry of Sports, Fiber Seminar, and Introduction to Trading.

If at all, they are generally only admissible to show the presence of alcohol or as a pass-fail field sobriety test to help determine probable cause for arrest. Where the defendant had refused to take a subsequent blood test, the only way the state could prove BAC was by presenting scientific evidence of how alcohol in the breath gets there from alcohol in the blood, along with evidence of how to convert from one to the other.

In each season, typically five contestants and their nominators arrive at the Handyman Rehabilitation Centre, where they partake in a two-to-three-week (16 filming days over 18 days) renovation project there, consisting of challenges that are designed to improve the contestants' handyman skills in an effort to not be named Canada's Worst Handyman. Each contestant and nominator pair are assigned colour-coded workplaces and otherwise work separately on their respective projects. Prior to entering the Handyman Rehabilitation Centre, each contestant performs a challenge in their own home, to be aired in the first episode; this is colloquially referred to as the "home challenge." Since season one, each challenge is judged on a pass/fail system, based on whether challenges are completed within the allotted time limit (typically two to three times the time needed for a professional to perform the challenge).
