The Paisano Grant was one of twenty-five land grants made in the Brooks County/Jim Wells County area of South Texas by the Spanish and Mexican governments between 1797 and 1835. The El Paisano Hotel served as base of operations for the months during which time the film was being shot in the surrounding countryside. Stevens stayed at the El Paisano Hotel as did the 300 plus members of the cast and crew who included: James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, Sal Mineo, Chill Wills, and Jane Withers among others. I-10 enters Texas northwest of El Paso near Anthony and travels southward, concurrent with US 85 and US 180\. US 85 splits off in West El Paso at exit 13 (Sunland Park Drive, Paisano Drive), where US 85 heads south on Paisano Drive, through downtown El Paso, and ends at the Stanton Street Bridge and the border with Mexico via local streets. As of Summer 2016, Interstate 10 through El Paso is undergoing a major construction project, which seeks to link North/South Desert Boulevard (the westside frontage roads) with Gateway East and Gateway West (the central and eastside frontage roads). Several miles of frontage road are being built where none previously existed. I-10/US 180 continues turning to the east towards downtown El Paso. I-10 then meets I-110 and US 54 (the "Patriot Freeway", or North–South Freeway) in a complex, three-level interchange referred to by locals as the "Spaghetti Bowl." I-10 and US 180 diverge east of downtown at exit 23B (Paisano Drive) as US 180 heads off to the northeast (joining US 62 and Paisano Drive northbound) and I-10 to the southeast. I-10's frontage road system is called Desert Boulevard in West El Paso, and Gateway Boulevard in Central and East El Paso.

U.S. 80 (Alternate), and Paisano drive then followed the tracks of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway along the eastern bank of the Rio Grande until Union Station in Downtown El Paso. US 62 has two separate segments in Texas, separated by a portion in New Mexico with the first section in Texas from its terminus in El Paso to the state line in the Guadalupe Mountains. Through El Paso, US 62 begins at the Santa Fe Street Bridge, and follows Santa Fe Street, then Paisano Drive. At the Paisano Drive underpass for I-10 (I-10 exit 23B), US 62 runs concurrently with US 180, while US 180 ends its concurrency with I-10. Wagon trains on the Chihuahua Trail reported seeing unexplained lights in the mid-19th century. The first recorded incident of the Marfa Lights was in 1883 when Robert Reed Ellison and cowhands camped at Mitchell Flats. They thought the lights might have been Apaches, but later found no evidence of an Apache encampment. Since that time, the lights continue to appear between Marfa and Paisano Pass.

The route follows Paisano Drive closely following the Rio Grande and the tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad and the BNSF Railway west of I-10, the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso, and the former Asarco smelter site. From there, the route continued on Paisano Drive until merging with the combined route of I-10 and US 180: however, in June 2016, due to construction of what will become the Border West Expressway, the route of US 85 was detoured onto SH 20 and local streets. After rejoining I-10 and US 180, US 85 remains concurrent with them for the remainder of its length in Texas in greater El Paso's west side and upper valley regions. US 85 intersects SH 20 at Mesa St. At Artcraft Rd., the route intersects SH 178 which, together with New Mexico State Road 136, connects the route to the Santa Teresa, New Mexico, international port of entry.

They are known for having encores at their concerts that can last more than an hour after the scheduled ending of the concert. Mexican- American singer-songwriter and actress, Lila Downs, also accompanied the group in a series of duets.

The Texas Institute of Letters is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to stimulate interest in Texas letters and to recognize distinctive literary achievement. Induction into the TIL is based on literary achievement. Founded in 1936, the TIL offers awards to outstanding books written by Texas authors, or dealing with Texas subjects. The TIL also co-administrates the Dobie Paisano Fellowship, which awards residencies at the ranch of former TIL President J. Frank Dobie.

The Riata house and exteriors for Giant, released 1956, were filmed at Marfa. The big stars, Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, James Dean, and others stayed at the Hotel Paisano for two months. High Lonesome, released in 1950, starring Chill Wills and John Drew Barrymore, was filmed in Antelope Springs, near Marfa.

The town of Iraan, Texas, prides itself on being the birthplace of cartoon caveman Alley Oop, when creator V.T. Hamlin worked in the oilfields. Although first published in the Des Moines Register in 1932, Hamlin claimed to have originated the idea while he watched dinosaur bones being dug up by oil equipment. Visitors to Iraan can visit the Alley Oop Museum found on Alley Oop Lane. Fort Stockton pays tribute to the agile roadrunner with their Paisano Pete the Roadrunner statue.

The Verve guitarist Nick McCabe used a Fender Electric XII for live performances on the band's 2008 comeback tour, notably on 'Space and Time' from their 1997 album Urban Hymns. Tom Petty used a white Fender XII for the first half of his 2006 North American Tour instead of his signature Rickenbacker 12-string. John Paisano, the "official" guitarist of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass used the Fender Electric XII extensively. It is heard in the intro of their recording of "Wade in the Water".

Gardner died on March 11, 1970, at his ranch in Temecula—the best-selling American writer of the 20th century at the time of his death. His death followed by five days that of William Hopper, who played private detective Paul Drake in the Perry Mason TV series. Gardner was cremated and his ashes scattered over his beloved Baja California peninsula. The ranch, known as Rancho del Paisano at the time, was sold after his death, then resold in 2001 to the Pechanga Indians, renamed Great Oak Ranch, and eventually absorbed into the Pechanga reservation.

Though many of the families receiving grants settled along the Rio Grande River instead of the isolated area near Jim Wells County, Garza kept livestock on the land, and settled the area near Los Olmos, or present day Falfurrias, Texas. The original grant consisted of 6184 acres in Jim Wells County, 3456 acres in Kleberg County, and 1430 acres in Brooks County. These grants were intended to help colonization of the area by Mexican and Spanish nationals, and strengthen frontier towns along the Texas border. The Paisano Grant succeeded with Garza building a ranch and settling the area.

This part of town contains some of the city's oldest and most historic neighborhoods. Located in the heart of the city, it is home to about 44,993 people. Development of the area started in 1827 with the first resident, Juan Maria Ponce de Leon, a wealthy merchant from Paso del Norte (present day Ciudad Juárez), who built the region's first structure establishing Rancho Ponce within the vicinity of S. El Paso Street and Paisano Dr. when the city was barely beginning. Today, central El Paso has grown into the center of the city's economy and a thriving urban community.

Officials blame the security situation on the US-Mexican border, with many younger people in the US not visiting during the Christmas season. The money sent back by those in the United States is so important that Pinal de Amoles is one of the sponsors of the annual “Día del Paisano” (Day of the Countryman) event which honors migrant workers visiting at Christmas time. The event is held in Jalpan de Serra and includes contests, raffles and more. This money is not only sent back directly to families but is also the basis for a number of public works projects.

The first historical record of the Marfa lights was in 1883 when a young cowhand, Robert Reed Ellison, saw a flickering light while he was driving cattle through Paisano Pass and wondered if it was the campfire of Apache Indians. Other settlers told him they often saw the lights, but that when they investigated they found no ashes or other evidence of a campsite. Joe and Anne Humphreys next reported seeing the lights in 1885. Both stories appear in Cecilia Thompson's book History of Marfa and Presidio County, Texas 1535-1946, which was published in 1985.

The roadway's main lanes proceed northward through the Cordova Point of Entry, where each vehicle is searched by the U.S. Border Patrol. The route continues north, traveling parallel to Chamizal National Memorial, before splitting off and reaching a diverging diamond interchange with U.S. Route 62 (US 62), East Paisano Drive. The road bends eastward, traveling past several houses and businesses, before it reaches an incomplete interchange with US 54, the Patriot Freeway. From the interchange, I-110 proceeds north as a complex series of three level entrance and exit ramps, unofficially referred to as the "Spaghetti Bowl".

Gail Patrick (born Margaret LaVelle Fitzpatrick, June 20, 1911 - July 6, 1980) was an American film actress and television producer. Often cast as the bad girl or the other woman, she appeared in more than 60 feature films between 1932 and 1948, notably My Man Godfrey (1936), Stage Door (1937) and My Favorite Wife (1940). After retiring from acting she became, as Gail Patrick Jackson, president of Paisano Productions and executive producer of the Perry Mason television series (1957–66). She was one of the first female producers, and the only female executive producer in prime time during the nine years Perry Mason was on the air.

The spur begins at US 85 (Paisano Drive) and proceeds to the northeast over a bridge crossing I-10 before ending at Schuster Avenue. The route replaced the nearby Yandell Drive overpass across I-10, which was demolished. The route is intended to provide better access between UTEP and nearby medical facilities, provide an additional route along US 85 between the campus and downtown El Paso, and allow improved access to businesses along State Highway 20 (SH 20, Mesa Street). The route is also designed to alleviate heavy traffic encroachment into nearby residential neighborhoods, and foster a more pedestrian-friendly environment for the UTEP campus.

Also, Mexico joined the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, GATT, that connected Mexico and the United States through the economy in a much deeper matter; in an indirect way it meant new policies for migrants. Iron Horses maiden issue was dated January 1979. The magazine was co-published by Paisano and Dell until the mid-1980s when it was sold to the Traub family, the owners of a New York area printing plant and publishers of many special interest titles, ranging from romance novels to men's magazines. Iron Horse enjoyed its creative heyday during the early 1990s under editor-in- chief Dave Snow and Assistant editor Fritz Schenck, but that did not prevent its sale — along with several other Traub properties — to Princeton Publishing, the New York subsidiary of a fast expanding Florida-based startup, in 1996. Snow and Fritz departed in April 1997.

In the early 1970s, after his post as Creative Director of Big Bike magazine, Kimzey was the creator and publisher of the gritty biker magazine Easyriders, the first lifestyle biker magazine on the market. Easyriders became a world sensation, the largest selling newsstand motorcycle magazine in the world with a circulation of over 550,000 copies. Lou was CEO of Paisano Publications, as well as the Editorial Director of several published monthly magazines and periodicals including: Easyriders, Iron Horse, Biker, In The Wind (quarterly), Tattoo (quarterly), a one-shot magazine called Motorcycle Women, Yesterdaze (book), Earlyriders (book), anniversary issues, annual calendars and various Easyriders paperbacks. Lou also started companies that sold bike modification parts, biker products, and biker lifestyle paraphernalia.

Stack and the Union City police were the subject of controversy in July 2005 when it was discovered that Stack had received two campaign contributions totalling $3,500 from Luisa Medrano, a tavern owner indicted on 31 counts for running an illegal immigrant smuggling ring out of her two Bergenline Avenue taverns, El Puerto de la Union II in Union City, and El Paisano Bar and Nightclub in Union City. Both taverns are no longer in operation. Medrano was accused of smuggling young women from Honduras, forcing them to work in bars for little money to pay off their smuggling debts, often incurring physical, emotional and sexual abuse during the operation.

Bachar would soon establish himself as the world's leading solo rock climber. In 1977, Long and Bachar toured the Western States, repeating most of John Gill's notorious boulder problems at Horse Tooth Reservoir, Ft. Collins, Split Rocks, Estes Park, the Badlands, Pueblo (all in Colorado), and at the Needles of South Dakota. Long's two seminal photo articles, "Pumping Sandstone," in 1976, and "Pumping Granite," in 1977, both featured in Climbing Magazine, inspired an entire generation of free climbers throughout the US and Western Europe, and helped establish bouldering in general, and "High Balling" (high bouldering sans rope) in particular, as a valid and extreme expression of traditional climbing. Long's 1973 ascent of Paisano Overhang (5.12c) at Suicide Rock in Southern California, helped to firmly establish the 5.12 grade and was likely the most technically difficult free climb in the world at that time.

Hotel Bristol and the Union Depot at El Paso, Texas (postcard, circa 1912) El Paso is served by El Paso International Airport, Amtrak via the historic Union Depot, Interstate 10, US Highway 54 (known locally as "54", the "North-South Freeway" or officially as the Patriot Freeway), Spur 601 (Liberty Expressway), US Highway 180 and US Highway 62 (Montana Avenue), US Highway 85 (Paisano Drive), Loop 375, Loop 478 (Copia Street-Pershing Drive-Dyer Street), numerous Texas Farm-to-Market roads (a class of state highway commonly abbreviated to FM) and the city's original thoroughfare, State Highway 20, the eastern portion of which is known locally as Alameda Avenue (formerly US Highway 80). Texas 20 also includes portions of Texas Avenue in central El Paso, Mesa Street from Downtown to the West Side, and Doniphan Drive on the West Side. Northeast El Paso is connected to West El Paso by Transmountain Road(Loop 375). The city also shares four international bridges and one railbridge with Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.
