One, the kind of cosy hypocrisy which helped Jimmy Savile, a television personality, abuse perhaps 153 children in the 1970s; the other, an incoherent hysteria which led a mob, in 2000, to daub "paedo" on the house of a hospital paediatrician.

The truth is so buried in misremembered versions that it takes a bit of sleuthing to wind back the picture from 2019, but the germ of it can be traced to then-trainee pediatrician Yvette Cloete, who came home one day in 2000 to find the word paedo scrawled on her front door.

The case against Gordon is running too slow for Chas' liking so she decides to take matters in her own hands. She goes to Gordon's house, and sprays "Paedo" on his car before Robert turns up. Robert warns Chas that she's making life much worse for Aaron.

The PNVD wanted to legalise private use of child pornography (calling outlawing thereof "censorship" in the platform) and allow non-violent pornography to be screened on daytime television. Their platform also included legalization of humans engaging in sex with animals. Treasurer Van den Berg claimed that, "Rearing is also about introducing children to sex". Because of their controversial viewpoints on children and sexuality, they were often called the "paedo-party" by the people and in the media.

On 21 August 2011, it was revealed that Channel 4 had given Boyle permission to record a pilot for a topical talk show in October of that year, which would be called Frankie Boyle's Rehabilitation Programme (despite the controversy surrounding Frankie Boyle's Tramadol Nights). Channel 4 head of comedy Shane Allen told the press that "it's very much like Parkinson or Wogan, but with paedo jokes" and that the show would feature Frankie "in a studio, riffing off the audience a bit with some people challenging what he says".

Private Eye magazine wrote on 18 September 2015 that "Exaro is struggling to live up to its strapline of 'holding power to account.' For several months the investigative site has published no news at all apart from the latest paedo developments and, slightly bizarrely, items on a corporate insolvency monitoring service it runs alongside its 'news.' Ryan first appears outside Gordon Livesy's (Gary Mavers) house when his ex-wife Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) spraypaints "paedo" on his car, following the recent revelation, that Gordon abused their son, Aaron, when he was a child. Robert pays Ryan to be an invented sexual abuse victim so that Gordon can be charged after the abuse allegations made by Aaron are taken seriously. Chas discovers this and warns Robert that she will tell Aaron, but he convinces her not to. Aaron eventually learns the truth and implores Ryan to retract his statement, which he agrees to do.

As women could not be the heads of a household anymore, widows often were considered financial burdens and sometimes driven to commit suicide. Women were expected to protect their virtue at any cost, and by the late Joseon era they often wore small knives called paedo () attached to the norigae (the colourful pendant hanging from the upper part of the hanbok), to commit suicide rather than dishonor their families even by giving cause to gossips. Men could have second wives besides their first wife and have several concubines, as well. Being a second wife or a concubine of a nobleman was considered a rise on the social ladder for commoner or slave women, but their children were considered illegitimate and denied any yangban rights.

In January 2019, Riley made a speech at a Westminster reception for the Holocaust Educational Trust and addressed what she described as the "hideous abuse" she had received. In February 2019, Riley and fellow campaigner Tracy Ann Oberman instructed a lawyer to take action against 70 individuals who had shared a critical blogpost for libel or harassment. In May 2019, a High Court judge ruled the post defamatory but in July 2020 Riley and Oberman dropped the libel action.

For example, as with American English, the vowel in yoghurt and the prefix homo- (as in homosexual or homophobic) is pronounced as ("long o") rather than ("short o"); vitamin, migraine and privacy are pronounced with (as in mine) rather than , and respectively; the prefix paedo- (as in paedophile) is pronounced with /e/ (as in red) rather than ; many loanwords with in British English (e.g. pasta) are pronounced with ; urinal is stressed on the first syllable and pronounced with schwa rather than the second syllable and ("long i"); harass and harassment are pronounced with the stress on the second, rather than the first syllable; and the suffix -sia (as in Malaysia, Indonesia and Polynesia) is pronounced rather than . As with British English, advertisement is stressed on the second syllable and pronounced with ; tomato and vase are pronounced with (as in father) instead of ; zebra is pronounced with /e/ (as in red) rather than ; basil is pronounced with ("short a") rather than ("long a"); and buoy is pronounced as (as in boy) rather than .
