In South America, the Andes mountain range blocks Pacific moisture that arrives in that continent, resulting in a desertlike climate just downwind across western Argentina. The drier areas of the United States are regions where the Sonoran Desert overspreads the Desert Southwest, the Great Basin and central Wyoming.

The females are among the most variable Morphids and three principal forms may be distinguished, including the normal (most commonly occurring), predominantly brown-yellow female, analogous to that of mellinia, and probably the ancestral form, still recalling the Brassolids, thus phyletically the oldest. Besides this we have mixta Fruhst., with partial blue reflections on the forewing (66 b), and finally pseudocypris Fruhst. (66 c), in which the yellow-brown gives place to a dark or light blue, which overspreads the whole upper surface.

There is too much fresh air; for it blows so hard that people are afraid to disturb the thin covering of herbage which overspreads the best part of the island. 'If ye break the shkin of 'um, your honour, the wind blows the sand away and leaves your pitaties bare. And, begorra, there are nights when the pitaties themselves 'ud be blown away. Statements like this must be taken at a reduction, but, judging from my own experience, Omey is a 'grand place for the weather entirely.

This ocherous hue overspreads the whole apical half of the wing. On the disc, before the middle, margining the creamy white anterior part of the wing, is an oblique black transverse spot which is narrowly separated by ocherous-yellow scales from a large somewhat diffuse brownish patch which covers the end of the cell and fades out gradually into the ocherous hue of that part of the wing. The extreme costa is marked throughout its length by small purple brown spots, which also extend around the apex at the base of the cilia which are greyish ocherous.Cincinnati Q. J. Sci.

Cagway Bay as the English called it following their arrival in Jamaica during the invasion of 1655 had been known to the earlier Taino and Spanish occupiers as Caguay or Caguaya bay. The bay in turn got its name from the Taino name for the sand spit now known as the Palisadoes which protects the bay or, as it is now known as, Kingston Harbour. Edward Long argued in his 1744 History of Jamaica argues that the names were "a corruption of caragua, the Indian name for coratoe, or great aloe, which overspreads the adjacent Saltpan Hill".

The wingspan is about 12 mm. The forewings are pale brownish ochreous, much mottled with dark brown, of which there is a spot at the base of the costa, a larger patch at the base of the dorsum, an outwardly oblique band, from the costa at one-fourth, extending a little across the middle of the fold, immediately followed by a pale, shining, steel-grey costal blotch, also reaching nearly to the fold, and extending to the middle of the wing. Beyond this are two very oblique whitish costal streaklets, outwardly dark margined, embedded in the dark brown colour which overspreads the remainder of the costal portion of the wing, with the exception of a narrow space below and adjacent to them which is pale ferruginous. A dark line from the end of the second streak, its upper edge tinged with ferruginous, runs to the apex, a whitish space below it being cut longitudinally, and narrowly margined outwardly, by lines of ferruginous scales.
