The same song on the commercial "If Nothing Happened" was also named in Blender's "Five Songs We Love" in March 2010. Song "If Nothing Happened" was featured on the Today Show in the clip "Hey Al, Have you Ever Overslept", where the famous weatherman was exercising before work.

That night, Alexander puts a candle on a homemade birthday sundae. He wishes that everyone in his family could relate to what he is going through. The next morning, Alexander wakes up to find the rest of his family in chaotic disarray: his parents have overslept; Emily has a cold from rehearsing in the car; Celia has broken up with Anthony, due to her overhearing and misinterpreting a conversation between the Cooper brothers the night before. Kelly's car is dead, due to Emily's having left the light on the previous night and draining the battery.

One story states that the stable boy was caught courting Baron Hylton's daughter, and was killed. Another version says that the baron ordered that his horse be prepared for an important journey, but Skelton had overslept. There are several versions of what happened next. At the end of the 1947–48 season, after the team finished seventh out of ten, Vasily Stalin brought the first line of forwards from Spartak Moscow to the team: Zdenek Zigmund, Ivan Novikov, and Yuri Tarasov. In fact, Szell ended up conducting part of the world premiere recording of Don Juan for Strauss. Cal Jones' flight on Trans-Canada Air Lines Flight 810, from Vancouver to Calgary crashed at Slesse Mountain (aka Mount Slesse), killing all 62 people aboard, including one football official and four players from the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Gilliam and the rest of the Iowa Hawkeye team heard of Jones's death as they prepared for the 1957 Rose Bowl against Oregon State. The team dedicated Iowa's first Rose Bowl appearance to Cal's memory and won the game, 35–19.

On 9 August 2015 Jiménez, who was expected to complete a loan deal to Premier League side West Ham, failed to show up to his medical after reports claimed he had missed his flight to London after he had overslept. However, multiple sources had reported his agent Jorge Mendes had suggested he spurn the move, in favour of a move to Primeira Liga side Benfica. On 13 August 2015, Jiménez joined Portuguese champions Benfica, signing a five-year deal. Max Arthuro Medina, played by Scott Cohen, was a recurring character in Season 1, and made guest appearances in seasons 2 and 3. He was Rory's English teacher in her sophomore year at The Chilton School, and he went on to become romantically involved with Lorelai. Max met Lorelai at a parent-teacher meeting ("The Deer Hunter"), where he assured Lorelai that Rory was a fine student and person who would do well in her new school. However, when Rory subsequently overslept and arrived late to his class after studying all night for her English exam, Max initially refused to allow her to take the test, thus incurring Lorelai's wrath.

Even those members whose names were famous not only in the country but also worldwide resorted to insults and verbal offences in order not to be among the deprived ones. He also went through mental suffering from the fact that he did not stand up for those who lost their garages succumbing to the general sentiments. His alter ego in the film is Professor Smirnovsky who sees the injustice of what is happening but does nothing about it. As in all his movies, Eldar Ryazanov played an episodic role in "The Garage" as the head of the insect department who overslept the whole meeting and got the unfortunate lot in the end of the film.

Sasaki Kojirō was known for wielding an oversized nodachi (Japanese greatsword) called a "washing pole" for its length, as well as being titled "three-shaku silver blade" (「三尺の白刃」). Sasaki's signature technique was a swift yet powerful overhead slash, the tsubame gaeshi, and he bore the nickname "The Demon of the Western Provinces". Sasaki arrived at the appointed time, but was then left to wait for hours; Musashi had overslept. (In some variants of the tale, Musashi intentionally arrives late as a sign of disrespect.) As he sailed over the Kanmon Straits, Musashi carved a crude oversized bokken from one of the ship's oars with his knife, making an improvised wooden sword, possibly to help wake himself up.

Siegfried Willem "Wim" Esajas (16 April 1935 – 30 April 2005) was a middle- distance runner from Suriname, who qualified for the Athletics at the Men's 800 m event at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy and was supposed to be the first Surinamese Olympian. Esajas missed the event, and it was alleged that he overslept it, whereas he was simply given a wrong starting time by Fred Glans, the head of Suriname's Olympic delegation. Esajas was a multiple national record holder in the 800 m, 1500 m and 3000 m events in the 1950s, and was selected as the Surinamese Sportman of the Year in 1956. He retired from sport after the 1960 Olympics, graduated in horticulture from a college in Deventer, the Netherlands, and returned to Suriname to grow flowers.

The singer Lepa Lukić has said that she was asked to perform at the concert that day but overslept for the first time in her career and did not make it to the concert; she later stated that she believes, had she gone with them, she would have lost her life in the crash with the sisters. In 2013, Lepa revealed in an interview that she hasn't driven a car since the sisters' deaths, out of fear that she would share their fate. During the Bosnian War of the 1990s, Armenulić's mother Hajrija and sister Dina fled their home in Doboj to Denmark. In 2004, Hajrija (by then nearly 88 years old), filed a lawsuit against her former son-in-law and Armenulić's ex-husband Radmilo Armenulić, the suit alleged that the six- bedroom apartment in which he lived with his second wife, belonged to the Bajraktarević family.

He required a knee surgery the next day and was put on the disabled list for the rest of the 1982 season. In October 2006, Sports Illustrated selected Rozema as one of the "10 Greatest Characters in Detroit Tigers History".
