Buckle ordered the 60-gun British ship HMS Rippon under Captain Edward Jekyll to pursue the French, Jekyll chasing the enemy ships into the Bay of Biscay. The French ships were the 64-gun Achille and frigate Bouffone. Although the French ships outdistanced Rippon, Jekyll sighted them again the following afternoon and at 21:30 successful drew alongside Achille, opening fire at close range. The wind was strong and the seas rough, neither ship able to easily use their lower gun deck without water sloshing in through the gunports.

During the Salvadoran Civil War, the region was considered a stronghold for the rebel Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front. In August 1982, the Salvadoran Army began a campaign in the area, moving in with ground troops after several days of bombing. On August 21-22, the Atlacatl Battalion surprised a group of hundreds of refugees at El Calabozo beside the Amatitán river, opening fire at close range. More than two hundred are reported to have died, among them infants and elderly, leading the incident to be called El Calabozo massacre.

On the night of 13/14 November 1944, as flagship of Rear- Admiral Rhoderick McGrigor during Operation Counterblast, the ship, with the light cruiser and four destroyers, attacked Convoy KS.357 off Listerfjord, south-east of Egersund, Norway. The convoy consisted of four freighters escorted by the minesweepers M.416, M.427 and four submarine chasers. In combat, the M1918A2 frequently decided the outcome of determined attacks by North Korean and Chinese communist forces. Ebdane was the 10th Chief of the Philippine National Police serving from July 2002 to 23 August 2004. After the escape from jail of Islamic militant Fathur Rohman al-Ghozi on 14 July 2003, Ebdane stated he would be satisfied with any recovery, including "even if he is dead and torn to pieces". He went to view the body after Al-Ghozi was shot dead by police on 13 October 2003, saying the militant was killed in a brief gunfight after opening fire at a military checkpoint. One of the demands of the Oakwood mutiny on 27 July 2003 was the resignation of Ebdane as national police chief, but the mutiny was unsuccessful and short-lived.

Jefferson was 22 years old, and a fusilier in the 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, British Army during the Second World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. Depiction of Jefferson and the PIAT at the Fusilier Museum On 16 May 1944, during an attack on the Gustav Line, Monte Cassino, Italy, the leading company of Fusilier Jefferson's battalion had to dig in without protection. The enemy counter-attacked opening fire at short range, and Fusilier Jefferson on his own initiative seized a PIAT gun and, running forward under a hail of bullets, fired on the leading tank. It burst into flames and its crew were killed. The fusilier then reloaded and went towards the second tank which withdrew before he could get within range.

The first person to be charged and convicted under the Act was Sha Bakar Dawood. He was sentenced to death in 1975 for shooting and wounding three people at a brothel and then opening fire at police at Thiam Siew Avenue. In July 1984, in Shenton Way, gunman Khor Kok Soon had fired three shots at police officers chasing him before he managed to escape in a lorry, forcing a lorry driver to drive him to safety. The driver, 25-year-old Ong King Hock, was found fatally shot in his lorry, which was abandoned at an alley (but Khor had escaped by the time the lorry was found). Khor, who evaded capture for the next 19 years, was arrested in Malaysia on 27 December 2003 and extradited back to Singapore for trial.

It was planned to enter the Gulf via the Irben Strait, defeating any Russian naval forces and mining the entrance to Moon Sound. G197 took part in these operations, opening fire at what was believed to be a periscope of an enemy submarine when escorting the battlecruiser on 10 August. The operation was not a success, with Germany losing the torpedo boats and and the minesweeper T46, while failing to destroy any major Russian warships or lay the planned minefield. On September 14, 1944, a first wave of 1400 men from both the Wehrmacht and the Kriegsmarine were loaded on ships in Tallinn. German landing craft arrived at the docks forcing Finnish security force at the location to withdraw but not before torching the two trapped Finnish patrol boats (VMV 10 and VMV 14). German forces made further landings at the northern part of the island as well as at a beach south from the docks on the eastern side of the island.
