In 1534, the "forty days rule" was instituted (adapted from church practice), which made the successor's right void if the preceding office holder died within forty days of the transfer (in which case the office reverted to the state); however, a new fee, called the survivance jouissante, protected against the forty days rule. The Chief of Staff, Fleet (COSFLEET) also formally known as Chief of Staff to the Commander-in-Chief Fleet was a senior British Royal Navy appointment. In 2000, Nelson announced that he would be running for the United States Senate seat held by retiring Republican Connie Mack III. John Purss (12 December 1732 - 8 April 1803) was a Canadian businessman, militia officer, and office holder. Purss was born in Elgin, Scotland in 1732, the son of a merchant there. He moved to Quebec after the British victory and, in 1762, entered into a business partnership with fellow Scot James Johnston. Their business traded wheat, iron, and seal furs and oil.

His work for past pupils (the Old Decanian Society) was prodigious, being an office holder in one capacity or another from 1927 to 1968. He married Joan Edwards in 1958. When Hoare retired in 1968, he and his wife moved to Charlton Kings. He became a keen grower of roses until his death in 1994 at the age of 90.

James Hill (died 1903) was a politician and public office holder in Mississippi. He served in the Mississippi House of Representatives, including as Sergeant at Arms and as Speaker, and was Secretary of State of Mississippi during the Reconstruction era. He served as secretary of state from 1874 until 1878. He was the last African American to hold statewide office in Mississippi.

Catharina Lysholm (1744 - 9 December 1815), was a Norwegian ship-owner. Catharina Meincke Lysholm was born at Trondheim in Sør-Trøndelag, Norway. She was the daughter of merchant and office holder Hilmar Meincke (1710–71) and Catharina Mølmann (1720–48). In 1763 she was married to merchant Broder Brodersen Lysholm (1734–1772), then one of the most successful merchants in Trondheim.

Roland Fairbairn McWilliams, (October 10, 1874 – December 10, 1957) was a Canadian politician and office-holder. He served as the 13th Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba from 1940 to 1953. McWilliams was born in Peterborough, Ontario. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 1896, and started his Bachelor of Laws degree at Osgoode Hall the following year.

William John McKeag, (17 March 1928 - 23 August 2007) was a Manitoba politician and office-holder. He served as the province's 17th Lieutenant Governor between 1970 and 1976. McKeag was born in Winnipeg, and was educated at the University of Manitoba. He served as general manager of Security Storage Limited (a family business) from 1952 until his appointment in 1970.

He became involved in the Manitoba Metis Federation in 1967, and became its Director for the Interlake region in 1972.

He was an office-holder in the Miners' Federation and was general secretary of the Northern Lodge of the union from 1954 to 1959. He saw service during World War Two on HMAS Australia.

James Johnston (1655 – 3 May 1737, in Bath), of Orleans House, Twickenham, Middlesex, was a Scottish diplomat who was envoy extraordinary to Prussia from 1690 to 1692 and an office holder who was Secretary of State, Scotland from 1692 to 1696 and Lord Clerk Register from 1704 to 1705. He sat as a Tory politician in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1708 to 1713.

The Commissioner of Corrective Services is a statutory office-holder in the State of New South Wales, Australia, with responsibility for the State's prison, parole and community corrections systems. The incumbent is Peter Severin. Prior to 2009, the Commissioner managed his own Department of Corrective Services. Since 2009, Corrections has been a division of the State's justice department, currently known as the Department of Communities and Justice.

He was a French-speaking Acadian who received a great deal of his education in English, resulting in his being fluently bi-lingual. He is important to Canadian history because of his support of the Acadian nationalist cause.

The Lord High Constable ( or only Marsk) was a prominent and influential office in Sweden, from the 13th century until 1676, excluding periods when the office was out of use. The office holder was a member of the Swedish Privy Council and, from 1630 and on, the head of the Swedish Council of War. From 1634, the Lord High Constable was one of five Great Officers of the Realm.

Denis-Benjamin Papineau (November 13, 1789 – January 20, 1854) was joint premier of the Province of Canada for Canada East from 1846 to 1848. His joint premiers for Canada West during this period were William Henry Draper and Henry Sherwood. Papineau was a seigneurial agent, bookseller, seigneur, merchant, office holder, justice of the peace, and politician. Born in Montreal, he was the son of Joseph Papineau and Rosalie Cherrier.

William D. Staples (November 10, 1868 - April 21, 1929) was a Canadian farmer, politician, and office holder. Born in Fleetwood, in the Township of Manvers, Ontario, Staples was educated at the Public School of Fleetwood, the High School of Lindsay and the Winnipeg Collegiate Institute. He held a 2nd class Teacher's certificate and was a farmer. He was twelve years in the Municipal Council as Councillor and Reeve of Treherne, Manitoba.

In 1717, he was promoted to Chief Merchant (opperkoopman) and Office holder (gezaghebber) of the west coast of Sumatra. It was 1720 that saw him promoted to Inspector General of Accounts for the Dutch East Indies (visitateur-generaal van Nederlands-Indië). In 1721, he was sent as an envoy to Jambi. In 1722, he was appointed deputy-overseer of goods coming in and out of the castle at Batavia.

The Vagri are also cattle breeders and cattle traders, and sell their cattle at the famous Pushkar cattle fair. They have an effective caste council, which acts as quasi-judicial body and deals with intra-community disputes. It is headed by an heredity office holder, known as a Patel. James Patrick Fox (March 2, 1860 - February 27, 1899), Canadian politician and office holder, born in St. John’s, Newfoundland to James and Bridget (Power) Fox. James P. Fox was the first person elected to the assembly under a new system under Prime Minister Sir William Whiteway legislation extending the right to vote in elections for the House of Assembly to all males 21 years of age and older.

Brian Parker (born 1951 or 1952) is an English politician who served as councillor on Pendle Borough Council for the Marsden ward of Nelson, Lancashire, between 2006 and his retirement in 2018. The Prime Minister of Lebanon, officially the President of the Council of Ministers, is the head of government and the head of the Council of Ministers of Lebanon. The Prime Minister is appointed (and removed) by the president of Lebanon, with no confirmation needed from the Parliament of Lebanon. By convention, the office holder is always a Sunni Muslim. The current prime minister is Hassan Diab, having taken office on 21 January 2020.

Non-ministerial government departments (NMGDs) are a type of department of the Government of the United Kingdom that deal with matters for which direct political oversight has been judged unnecessary or inappropriate. They are headed by senior civil servants. Some fulfil a regulatory or inspection function, and their status is therefore intended to protect them from political interference. Some are headed by a permanent office holder, such as a Permanent Secretary or Second Permanent Secretary.

The Keeper of the Storehouses and formally known as the Keeper of the King's Storehouses was an English Navy appointment created in 1524 the office holder was a principal member of the Council of the Marine from 1546 until the post was abolished and his duties assumed by the Treasurer of the Navy in 1560. He was responsible for the storing and supply of naval stores at naval dockyards for the navy.

The Warden of the Swans is an office in the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom, created in 1993 when the ancient post of Keeper of the Kings Swans (which dated from the 13th century) was divided into two new posts. The second is the Marker of the Swans. The first office-holder, as so far the only Warden of the Swans, is Professor Christopher Perrins, LVO, appointed 1993.

Opposition Deputy Chief Whip is a position in the Opposition Frontbench in the House of Lords. The office holder tends to be shared by two separate members, each responsible for supervising whips in the chamber and reporting to the Leader and Chief Whip. As is the custom in the Lords, the officeholder is acts as a spokesperson, as well as their duties as a Whip. It is currently held by Labour Peer Denis Tunnicliffe (Defence).

Governor-general (plural governors-general) or governor general (plural governors general), in modern usage, is the title of an office-holder appointed to represent the monarch of a sovereign state in the governing of an independent realmSee, e.g., as a viceroy. Governors-general have also previously been appointed in respect of major colonial states or other territories held by either a monarchy or republic, such as Japan in Korea and France in Indochina.

It is important in terms of politics, as in many jurisdictions candidates must maintain residency within the district in which they intend to run. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, and sometimes by the political office for which a person runs. The cutoff may be as little as a month or as much as several years. Once elected, the office-holder must remain resident in the appropriate district, or may usually be forced to resign.

Vice-Premiers of the State Council of the People's Republic of China () are high-ranking executive assistants to the Premier. The Hungarian troops, including Apáti, arrived in Buda on 25 October 1350. The Constitution requires the president to be a "Muslim of not less than forty five (45) years of age". The president resides in an estate in Islamabad known as Aiwan-e-Sadar (President's House). In the absence of the president, the chairman of the Senate exercises the responsibilities of the post, until the actual president resumes office, or the next office holder is elected. There have been a total of 13 presidents of Pakistan.

Ko Htwe (, ; 1929 - 19 July 1947) was killed in the assassination of Burmese pre-independence government leaders on 19 July 1947. He was a bodyguard of U Razak, the Minister for Ministry of Education and National Planning. Ko Htwe was the lone non-office holder who was killed. Seven cabinet ministers (including Prime Minister Aung San) and a deputy minister were killed in their meeting room at the Secretariat compound in downtown Yangon.

The Vice-President of Bangladesh was formerly the second highest constitutional office in Bangladesh, when the country was governed under a presidential system. The Vice-President was the first person in the presidential line of succession, in the event of a President's resignation, removal or death. The post was held by several Bangladeshi statesmen during different periods of the country's history. The inaugural office holder was Syed Nazrul Islam during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

From the moment the SAMS was launched in 1957, its Constitution, membership, election and office-holder rules were non-discriminatory and did not contain any racially restrictive language. The Paymaster of the Marines was established in 1831 following the abolition of Marine Pay Department within the Admiralty that had its own paymaster for the marines. This office holder was part of the Navy Pay Office under the Treasurer of the Navy. The post holder was responsible for processing payments to the Corps of the Royal Marines until the Navy Pay Office was abolished in 1832 as part of reforms of HM Naval Service.

In 1974 the city council decided to create the office of municipal curator. The first holder was Nanna Hermansson (1974-1984), followed by Ragnheiður Þórarinsdóttir (1984-1989), Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir (1989-2000) and the current office holder Guðný Gerður Gunnarsdóttir (2000-). When the museum was founded in 1957, it was located a short distance outside the built- up areas of Reykjavík. Edmund Doubleday (died December 1620) was an English vintner, lawyer, office- holder and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1614. He was jointly responsible for the capture of Guy Fawkes in the Gunpowder Plot. Doubleday was acting as a scrivener and public notary by 1587 and then studied law at Middle Temple. He was active at the parish of St Margaret's, Westminster where he signed parish accounts from 1590.

Tovi the Proud fl. 1018-1043 (also Tofi or Tofig, Tofi pruda) was a rich and powerful 11th-century Danish thegn who held a number of estates in various parts of southern England. A translation of the legend of Waltham Abbey cites the Lord of Waltham as 'Tovi le Prude', "totius Angliae post regnem primus" (prude = prudent, wise, sagacious). He was staller (a placeman or court office-holder) to King Cnut the Great.

Between 1992 and 2001 the office holder reported to the Commander-in-Chief, Fleet. In April 2001 COMUKTG was re-named Commander United Kingdom Maritime Forces (COMUKMARFOR) at the rank of Rear- Admiral (2 star). A pfleger was a mediaeval office holder in the Holy Roman Empire, a type of burgrave or vogt, who was responsible for the management and defence of a castle or abbey. In Bavaria there was also the title of pflegskommissär, given to someone who represented a pfleger as required (in the sense of a "commissarial" or "acting" pfleger). One-term incumbent Republican Mike Parson took office upon Eric Greitens' resignation due to threatening the dissemination of sexual images and campaign finance violations. The current spouse (since 28 September 2016) is David Gascoigne, husband of Patsy Reddy. She was either the first or the second woman to serve as a state senator in the United States and the first in the Colorado State Senate. Gaston became the Acting Speaker of the Alabama House of House per state law and House rules after incumbent Speaker Mike Hubbard was convicted on 12 felony counts of public corruption. Alabama law requires any public office holder immediately removed from office if they have been convicted of a felony. In 1911, newly elected Governor Francis E. McGovern laid out his progressive vision for Wisconsin, which included a proposal for a recall. The next week, State Senator Paul O. Husting introduced Senate Joint Resolution 9, which allowed for the recall of every office holder in the state, including both those elected and appointed. Several senators did not like that the recall also applied to judges, and attached an exemption for judges. The bill passed the Senate 20-7.

The Licensing Act 1737 created the office of Examiner of Plays, whose activities included censoring all plays in Britain. The office holder when the theatre was built was John Larpent. In November 1778 he was appointed inspector of plays by the Marquis of Hertford, who was then Lord Chamberlain. A life tenure or service during good behaviour is a term of office that lasts for the office holder's lifetime (in some cases subject to mandatory retirement at a specified age), unless the office holder is removed from office for cause under extraordinary circumstances or chooses to resign. Some judges and members of upper chambers (e.g., senators for life) have life tenure. The primary goal of life tenure is to insulate the officeholder from external pressures.

Vice President of the Maldives is the holder of a public office created by the Constitution of the Maldives. The current office-holder is Faisal Naseem, since 17 November 2018. Ibrahim Muhammad Didi was the first Vice President, and was an appointee, while Mohammed Waheed Hassan was the first elected Vice President. The Vice President is the first in the line of succession to the Presidency in the event of the President's death, resignation, or removal from office.

On August 25, 1854, Prince Alexander Liholiho appointed him as Akukana Kenela, or Adjutant General to the Forces of the Hawaiian Islands to succeed the previous office holder Major Francis Funk.; He was placed in charge of all military accounts for the kingdom and held this post until his death. He later achieved the rank of Major. One of his protégés during this period was the future King Kalākaua who served as the military secretary to Maikai.

The office was created in 1350 by royal letters patent, though the current title dates from 1522. The position was adopted by other members of the Commonwealth when they adopted the British Westminster system. The title is derived from the staff of office, an ebony staff topped with a golden lion, which is the main symbol of the office's authority. A ceremonial rod or staff is a common type of symbol indicating the authority of the office-holder.

Three of these belonged to the Indian National Congress party, including inaugural office-holder Yashwant Singh Parmar. After his first term ended in 1956, Himachal Pradesh was made a union territory, and the office of Chief Minister ceased to exist. In 1963, Parmar once again became Chief Minister, and during his reign, in 1971, Himachal regained full statehood. Hugh de Lacy, Lord of Meath, 4th Baron Lacy (; before 1135 – 25 July 1186), was an Anglo-Norman landowner and royal office-holder. He had substantial land holdings in Herefordshire and Shropshire. Following his participation in the Norman Invasion of Ireland, he was granted, in 1172, the lands of the Kingdom of Meath by the Anglo-Norman King Henry II, but he had to gain control of them. The Lordship of Meath was then the most extensive liberty in Ireland.

She held that post until 1972, when she taught at Llanederyrn High School in Cardiff. From 1973, she worked as an artist and tutor for the Workers Educational Association. During her time as a teacher, Oxland continued to paint and exhibit works, often landscapes of the French regions. She regularly showed works at the Royal Academy in London during the 1950s, and was a member of and occasional office holder with, both the South Wales Group and the South Wales Artists Society.

He was elected a councillor to the Municipal Local Board of the General Assembly of Budapest five years later, on 1 April 1890, he was the youngest person who held the dignity during that time. In that capacity, he chaired the Finance and Economy Department. Following the death of the incumbent office-holder Gusztáv Alkér, Márkus was elected Second Deputy Mayor by the General Assembly on 21 February 1894. As the youngest councillor, he gained 231 of the 279 votes.

When Guyana was declared a republic in 1970 the president was elected by the National Assembly for a five-year term and possessed largely ceremonial powers. Arthur Chung was the only person to hold the office under those legal provisions. A total of 23 people have headed the Government of Estonia, 15 before and 8 after the Soviet occupation. Konstantin Päts headed the government for the longest, a total of 3,563 days during six different terms (2,059 days without his authoritarian era). Andrus Ansip is the second longest office holder, having been democratically in office longer than Päts. The shortest time in office was for Ado Birk, when he served as Prime Minister for only 3 days and never actually stepping into office.

David Buchwald is an American politician and attorney serving as a member of the New York State Assembly, representing Assembly District 93, which includes the towns of Bedford, Harrison, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and White Plains. He was first elected on November 6, 2012, when he defeated the incumbent office holder. Squadron Leader Sowu trained at the Royal Air Force in 1958 as the first Ghanaian parachutist. He enlisted in the Ghana Military Academy in 1961 and was commissioned into the Air Branch of the Ghana Air Force on December 4, 1962. He retired on September 18, 1973. During his career as a politician and public office holder, he was a former Volta Regional Minister (1993), Minister of Works and Housing (1993-1994), MP for Anlo (1993-2000) and leading member of the NDC.

The Italian Minister of Economy and Finance () is a senior member of the Italian Cabinet who leads the Ministry of Economy and Finance since its creation in 2001 by the fusion of three former ministries, the Ministry of Treasury, the Ministry of Budget and the Ministry of Finance. Sophie von Kameke née von Brünnow (1675-1749) was a Prussian courtier. She served as oberhofmeisterin to the queen of Prussia, Sophia Dorothea of Hanover. Sophie de Kameke was appointed oberhofmeisterin to the queen, which made her responsible for the queen's household and ladies-in-waiting and the highest female court office holder. As such she is frequently mentioned in contemporary memoirs and diaries, notably that of Wilhelmine of Prussia, Margravine of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, and participated in several famous events at court.

Gnaeus Arrius Antoninus (born AD 31) was the maternal grandfather of the Emperor Antoninus Pius. A member of gens Arria, a family of consular rank, Antoninus was also an office holder, having been twice consul; for the first time in 69 and the second in 97;As determined by Fausto Zevi "I consoli del 97 d. Greg Power, 1930 British Empire Games, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Champion Sprinter and Jumper Gregory J. Power (March 22, 1909 - May 15, 1997) was a politician, office holder, farmer, poet and athlete, who was born in Dunville, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. Power represented Placentia and St. Mary's from 1951 to 1956 and Placentia East from 1956 to 1959 in the Newfoundland House of Assembly. The son of William and Gertrude Power, he was educated in St. John's and at Memorial University College. Power married Mary Ellen Crosbie.

The Tennessee Attorney General (officially, Attorney General and Reporter) is a position within the Tennessee state government. The Attorney General is the chief law enforcement officer and lawyer for Tennessee. The current office holder is Herbert Slatery, who was appointed by the Tennessee Supreme Court for an eight-year term in 2014 to fill that position. His service officially began with his swearing in by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, a close personal friend whom he had previously served as legal counsel, on October 1, 2014.

The chancellor of Germany is the political leader of Germany and the head of the federal government. The office holder is responsible for selecting all other members of the government and chairing cabinet meetings. The office was created in the North German Confederation in 1867, when Otto von Bismarck became the first chancellor. With the unification of Germany and establishment of the German Empire in 1871, the Confederation evolved into a German nation- state and its leader became known as the chancellor of Germany.

The position was created in 1628, formally named the "Governor-general of the islands and mainland of America" (Gouverneur général des Isles et Terre Ferme de l'Amérique). The first office holder was Pierre Belain d'Esnambuc, who had founded the colony of Saint Christophe (Saint Kitts) in 1625, the first French colony in the region. The governor general lived in Basseterre Saint Christophe. Jean-Charles de Baas moved the governor's residence from Saint-Christophe to Martinique, first to Saint- Pierre in 1671, then to Fort-Royal in 1674.

On April 15, 1959, President Carlos P. Garcia appointed Caibiran Mayor Uldarico R. Reyes as its first lieutenant governor of Biliran which was made as a sub-province of Leyte after the enactment of Republic Act No. 2141. Reyes assumed the position on October 25, 1959. Thereafter, the position was generally elected. Subsequently, the title of lieutenant governor was changed into a governor on June 21, 1969 pursuant to Republic Act No. 5977 thereby giving the office holder the executive powers of a provincial governor.

Earp and Behan applied for the new position of Cochise County sheriff, which paid the office holder 10% of the fees and taxes collected, as did the Pima County sheriff job. Marie Anne de Bourbon (Marie Anne; 16 October 1697 - 11 August 1741)Dates was a French court office holder, Surintendante de la Maison de la Reine to queen Marie Leszczyńska. She was the daughter of Louis III, Prince of Condé. Her father was the grandson of le Grand Condé and her mother, Louise Françoise de Bourbon, Mademoiselle de Nantes, was the eldest surviving daughter of Louis XIV of France and his maîtresse-en-titre, Madame de Montespan. She was known as Mademoiselle de Clermont.

The Cochise County sheriff's position was worth more than $40,000 a year (equivalent to $ million in ) because the office holder was also county assessor and tax collector, and the board of supervisors allowed him to keep ten percent of the amounts paid. The Secretary to the Governor General is the administrative head of the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General of Canada and is based at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, Ontario. The position is one of the oldest public service appointments in Canada and holds the courtesy rank of deputy minister within the Public Service of Canada. Since Confederation, every office-holder has been appointed by order-in-council. The first post-Confederation incumbent, Dennis Godley, initially assumed his post in 1861 and continued on into the post-Confederation period, departing in November 1868.

Tairō (大老, "great elder") was a high-ranking official position in the Tokugawa shogunate government of Japan, roughly comparable to the office of prime minister. The tairō presided over the governing rōjū council in the event of an emergency. A tairō was nominated from among the fudai daimyōs, who worked closely with the Tokugawa traditionally. Generally, the office holder was the shogunate's chief policy maker, and provided Japan with a capable temporary leader in the absence of a shōgun, or in the event that the shōgun was incapacitated.

John Handfield (circa 1693 - 1787) was a British military officer, member of the Nova Scotia Council, and office holder. Handfield was commissioned in Philipps' Regiment (the 40th Regiment of Foot) as an Ensign in 1720, taking up his duties at Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. Promoted to Lieutenant in 1731 and received promotions to Lieutenant-Captain (1739), Captain (1740), Major (1754), and Lieutenant-Colonel (1758). Appointed to the Nova Scotia Council at Annapolis Royal in 1736 and granted the position of Justice of the Peace by Governor Peregrine Hopson in 1752.

During the Middle Ages, an advocatus (sometimes given as modern English: advocate; German: Vogt; French: avoué) was an office-holder who was legally delegated to perform some of the secular responsibilities of a major feudal lord, or for an institution such as an abbey. Especially in the Holy Roman Empire, many such positions developed. Typically, these evolved to include responsibility for aspects of the daily management of agricultural lands, villages and cities. In some regions, advocates were governors of large provinces, sometimes distinguished by terms such as Landvogt (in German).

Sir Henry Croke (1588 – 1 January 1660) was an English landowner, office holder and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1614 and 1629. The post was established in October 1945 following re- structuring of responsibilities of the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff of one of his responsibilities. The post holder was a part of the Admiralty Naval Staff and member of the Board of Admiralty. The office holder was responsible for supervising the directors of a number of naval staff divisions originally the Operations Division until December 1946 when the post was abolished. In 1966 the office was revived until 1968 when it was replaced by the Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Operations and Air).

Maurice-Régis Blondeau (23 June 1734 13 July 1809) was a fur trader, militia officer, and office holder in Canada. Blondeau was born into a merchant family from Montreal in New France. He became associated with the fur trade and spent his early career specializing in trade with natives of the Illinois area. In 1757, during the French and Indian War, he went into the employ of Joseph- Michel Cadet, who was purveyor general with the French forces in New France, and spent a year at Fort St. Frédéric on Lake Champlain.

The term is also applied to the black flint cross formerly held at Waltham Abbey in Essex, England. The Holy Rood or Cross was the subject of veneration and pilgrimage in the middle ages, but disappeared when the Abbey was dissolved in 1540. Local Somerset tradition has it that the flint cross (or crosses) were found on St Michael's Hill, Montacute. Then variously called Logaresburgh by the Saxons, later Bishopstone or Biscepstone, the Montacute estate was owned by Tofig (Tovy), a staller (placeman or court office-holder) to Danish King Canute.

A constitutional violation is an action or legislative act that is judged by a constitutional court to be contrary to the constitution, that is, unconstitutional. An example of constitutional violation by the executive could be a public office holder who acts outside the powers granted to that office by a constitution. An example of constitutional violation by the legislature is an attempt to pass a law that would contradict the constitution, without first going through the proper constitutional amendment process. Some countries, mainly those with uncodified constitutions, have no such courts at all.

The prime minister of Vanuatu is the head of government of the Republic of Vanuatu. The office of Prime Minister was created under the Constitution of Vanuatu upon the country's independence in 1980, with independence campaigner Walter Lini becoming the first office-holder. The position is sometimes seen as a continuation of the older office of Chief Minister, which existed before Vanuatu obtained its independence. Richard Spink Bowles (November 16, 1912 - July 9, 1988) was a lawyer and office holder in Manitoba, Canada. He served as the province's 16th Lieutenant Governor from 1965 to 1970. Bowles had no political experience prior to his appointment as Lt. Governor, and was only the second non-political appointee to the position (James Duncan McGregor was the first, although McGregor had previously worked for the federal government in a non-partisan capacity). Bowles was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and was educated at the University of Manitoba and Manitoba Law School.

The Office of the Executive Secretary of the Philippines (formerly the Executive Office) is the head and highest-ranking official of the Office of the President of the Philippines and a member of the Cabinet of the Philippines. The office-holder has been nicknamed as the "Little President" due to the nature of the position. It was given the mandate "to directly assist the President in the management of affairs of the government as well as to direct the operations of the Executive Office." It is headed by the Executive Secretary.

Heavily involved in organised politics, Bishop joined Killara Young Liberals in 1961 and during her association with that branch, she became vice-president. She first became a Liberal Party office-holder in 1973 as president of the Balmoral branch and was later elected as the chairman of the Liberal Party Convention Committee from 1981 to 1985 and as the first female president of the NSW Liberals from 1985 to 1987.

In 1099, the Crusaders captured Jerusalem, setting up the Kingdom of Jerusalem and establishing a Latin hierarchy under a Latin Patriarch, and expelling the Orthodox Patriarch. The Latin Patriarch resided in Jerusalem from 1099 to 1187, while Greek Patriarchs continued to be appointed, but resided in Constantinople. In 1187, the Crusaders were forced to flee Jerusalem, and the Orthodox Patriarch returned to Jerusalem. The Catholic Church continued to appoint Latin Patricarchs, though the office holder resided in Rome until 1847, when they were permitted to return to the Middle East by the Ottoman authorities.

In the inter-war period Mitchell was a member of the Citizens' Military Forces and re-enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force with the rank of Captain at the commencement of World War Two. He reached the rank of Major and commanded an amphibious landing force in the New Guinea Campaign. Mitchell had several other occupations including potato farming in Dorrigo, owning a motor garage and car sales agency and script writing for the Australian film industry. He was an office holder in the Returned Services League.

He was the son of a miner and was educated to elementary level at Kurri Kurri Public School. At age 13 he became a coal miner and worked mainly at Richmond Main Colliery. He was an office-holder in the Miners' Federation and was general secretary of the Northern Lodge of the union from 1934 to 1949. Common Council elections are held every four years, most recently in March 2017. Common Councilmen may use the postnominals CC after their names. Each year, the Common Councilmen elect one of their number to serve as Chief Commoner, an honorific office which 'serves to recognise the distinguished contribution the office holder is likely to have made to the City Corporation over a period of years.' The Chief Commoner is expected to champion the Court of Common Council, to work to uphold its rights and privileges, and to offer advice and counsel to its members.

The Master of the High Court is an official attached to the court with the power to make a range of minor interlocutory orders and give judgement in uncontested matters. Although based on the common-law Master of the English judiciary, the Master in Ireland is not a judge, but rather a "quasi-judicial office holder". The office of Master of the High Court was established in 1926.Court Officers Act, 1926, Section 3 Its functions are specified in Order 63 of the Rules of the Superior Courts.

The Master of the Jewel Office was a position in the Royal Households of England, the Kingdom of Great Britain and the United Kingdom. The office holder was responsible for running the Jewel House, which houses the Crown Jewels. This role has, at various points in history, been called Master or Treasurer of the Jewel House, Master or Keeper of the Crown Jewels, Master or Keeper of the Regalia, and Keeper of the Jewel House. In 1967, the role was combined with Resident Governor of the Tower of London.

Thus it is plausible he served in this capacity sometime in the period between 1254 (when the last known office-holder Baldwin Rátót is mentioned) and 1260 (when Conrad fall out of favor in the Hungarian royal court until he obtained pardon from Béla in the diploma). Tóth considers Conrad Győr built his castle in Óvár (today Mosonmagyaróvár, ) in the 1250s, when Béla abandoned the ancient royal prerogative to build and own castles and allowed the barons and the prelates to erect stone fortresses after the Mongol invasion.

The ministry, headed by the former Bavarian minister-president Horst Seehofer, was then renamed to "Interior, Building and Community". The third element, Heimat in German, does not have an exact English translation, the closest equivalent is "homeland", but the government intends the term to be understood as "community". The renaming was controversial as the term Heimat may be interpreted as old-fashioned, folksy or even nationalistic. During his inauguration the new office-holder referred to his ministry, by a slip of the tongue, as Heimatmuseum—"museum of local history"—earning him much ridicule.

A "Master of the Chamber" (kammarmästare) or chamberlain, with the responsibility to supervise issues concerning the economy of the state, is mentioned as early as the beginning of the 14th century. During Gustav Vasa's time as king (1523–1560), the title was called överste räknemästare as well, and the office holder was head of the chamber (kammaren), which was the first central bureau of Sweden. Later in the 16th century, an överste räknemästare is among the privy councillors. From 1602, the chief of the chamber was named Lord High Treasurer, riksskattmästare.

In 1874 Stone took residence in Madison County, Kentucky as a farmer and entrepreneur. Stone established 1876 close to Fort Estill Station a cattle farm and started to rear thoroughbred horses and rose to become the second biggest tobacco grower in the county. From 1895 to 1899 Stone officiated as Auditor of Public Accounts for Kentucky. In 1899 he was defeated by the latter – controversial - office holder William S. Taylor (1853-1928) in the nomination campaign as candidate for the Republican Party for the office of Governor of Kentucky by a few votes.

Sir Edward Nicholas (4 April 15931669) was an English office holder and politician who served as Secretary of State to Charles I and Charles II. He also sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1621 and 1629. He served as secretary to Edward la Zouche and the Duke of Buckingham in the Admiraltyand became a clerk of the Privy Council. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War and accompanied the court into exile, before assuming the post of Secretary of State on the Restoration.

The South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner is the police and crime commissioner of the South Yorkshire Police in South Yorkshire. The post was created on 21 November 2012, following an election held on 15 November 2012, and replaced the South Yorkshire Police Authority. The current South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner is Alan Billings of the Labour Party, who was elected in 2014 and again in 2016. The role was created in 2012 and the initial office holder was Shaun Wright, who resigned on 16 September 2014.

In English ecclesiastical law, the term incumbent refers to the holder of a Church of England parochial charge or benefice. The term "benefice" originally denoted a grant of land for life in return for services. In church law, the takings were spiritual ("spiritualities") and some form of assets to generate revenue (the "temporalities") were permanently linked to the duties to ensure the support of the office holder. Historically, once in possession of the benefice, the holder had lifelong tenure unless he failed to provide the required minimum of spiritual services or committed a moral offence.

O'Brian served as the U.S. Attorney throughout the subsequent administration of President William Howard Taft. O'Brian also continued in that office into the administration of Democratic President Woodrow Wilson, thus beginning a bipartisan path of serving as an appointed office holder under both Republican and Democratic administrations. In his role as the federal government's principal attorney in western New York, O'Brian in 1913 filed an antitrust lawsuit alleging that the Eastman Kodak Company was maintaining an unlawful monopoly on photographic films and equipment. All these omissions might be done away with only if we applied a more thorough approach to these studies. Theoretical principles of institutional chronology are still far from being clearly formulated. A researcher puzzled with two or more conflicting dates needs a definite guidance on what event makes the date valid from the viewpoint of institutional chronology or needs an alternative date backed by facts. A simple question as to when an office holder legally took possession of his or her office may raise a number of tough questions.

In other countries, ambassador is a title that accrues to its holder only with respect to a specific position, and may not be used after leaving or beyond the position. Some countries do not use the term while an ambassador is in the home country, as the office holder is not an ambassador there; for example, a Canadian ambassador while in Canada is not generally addressed as ambassador, although they may be referred to as "Canadian ambassador to ..."; that is, with reference to a specific job function; the person is addressed or styled as ambassador only while holding such office.

With the Security Council unable to break the Soviet-American veto duel, the General Assembly extended Lie's term to 1954. The Soviet Union subsequently treated Lie as an illegitimate office- holder, addressing all communications to "The Secretariat" rather than the Secretary-General. However the local authority had only limited financial opportunities in that regard, though Kamermayer could use his informal influence at the national parliament. During the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary, the mayor was an administrative rather than a political position, as the law on classification of civil servants (Statute I of 1883) required the office-holder be a legal and political science graduate. A lot of the administration was concentrated in Kamermayer's hands, for example: civil registration of births, marriages, citizenship naturalization, and the authorisation of water management. Emanuel Lousada (26 December 1783—14 December 1854) was a London-born Jewish merchant, slave plantation owner and public office holder with interests in Jamaica and Barbados. He was the High Sheriff of Devon from 1842 until 1843, making him the first Jew to hold the title in a county outside of the Sheriff of London, which had been held first by David Salomons in 1835. Lousada was associated with Peak House, Sidmouth. Lousada owned more than 400 African slaves on his sugarcane plantations in the British West Indies at the time of the Slavery Abolition Act 1833.

The Eastern European Group has two seats in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC); the permanent seat of Russia, and one elected seat, currently held by Estonia. The Group further has 6 seats on the United Nations Economic and Social Council and 6 seats on the United Nations Human Rights Council. It is also eligible for having its nationals elected as President of the United Nations General Assembly in years ending with 2 and 7; most recently, Vuk Jeremić of Serbia was elected to this position in June 2012 and was the office holder of the Sixty-seventh session.

Richard Cachia Caruana KOM (born 11 February 1955) was a prominent office holder in the five Nationalist Party (European People's Party) governments in Malta between 1987 and 2013. He was chief negotiator for Malta's European Union accession negotiations (1999–2003) and later Malta's first permanent representative to the EU (2004–2012). He was chief of staff to Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami (1991–1996 and 1998–2004) and adviser to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi (2004–2013). He is the chairman of Citco Custody Ltd, a financial institution, as well as a senior consultant at EMD Malta.

He was also the Chairman of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) until February 2015, and is currently a member of its Governing Board. In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), Prashant Bhushan questioned the selection of former Defence Secretary, saying that there was conflict of interest in this appointment as CAG. The manner in which his appointment had been made adversely was thought of to possibly affect the perception of impartiality that is necessary for an independent constitutional office-holder. The Delhi High Court, by a detailed judgement in the Writ Petitions no 4653/2013 and WP 4619/2013 dated 13.08.

According to Weisz, the royal archives was established in Visegrád Castle. Pipo of Ozora, King Sigismund's notable financial advisor and royal treasurer The first office-holder who seems to have been valued for his financial expertise, was Nicholas Zámbó, appointed to the position in 1377. Annan joined the UN in 1962, working for the World Health Organization's Geneva office. He went on to work in several capacities at the UN Headquarters including serving as the Under-Secretary-General for peacekeeping between March 1992 and December 1996. He was appointed the Secretary-General on 13 December 1996 by the Security Council, and later confirmed by the General Assembly, making him the first office holder to be elected from the UN staff itself. Kirat Singh, also known as Kirti Singh (later Rana Kirat Chand), who was an office holder and Jagirdar at the court of Raja Narayan Pal of Gaya in Bihar, founded Kumharsain State in the 11th century AD. He along with his two brothers (Kartar Singh and Prithvi Singh) was driven away from Gaya, by the fear of Mahmud Ghazni and settled around Kumharsain. They conquered the country from a local chief named Bhambu Rai manvana of Delath. Later on Kirat Singh gave a tract called Karangla to his brother Kartar Singh. Descendants of Kartar Singh founded the states of Khaneti and Kotkhai.

The office of the Prime Minister is the most powerful constitutional office of the Republic. The office holder is the head of government and provides the constitutional duty to advise the president when to use the executive prerogatives including opening, summoning and dissolving of the national assembly, announcement of elections whether being councils, municipals or general and providing assents to bill passed through parliament among others. The former station master's house at Narrandera, Australia From the late Victorian era onwards, station masters became prominent figures in local communities. Invariably they would be provided with a substantial house and, in rural communities particularly, would have significant social standing. The uniforms worn by station masters, whilst varying widely between different railway companies, often incorporated gold braid embroidery, and peaked caps with gold banding, giving the office-holder a high profile in the community. With his uniform, official housing, and public prominence, the station master was respected and widely attributed with seniority in the local community.

The office of Keeper of the Storehouses came into being in 1524 following the death John Hopton who simultaneously held the titles of Keeper of the Storehouses at Deptford Dockyard and Erith Dockyard and Clerk Comptroller of the Navy from 1512 to 1524 when his offices were separated. Generalfeldwachtmeister is a historical military rank of general officer level in the armies of the German and Scandinavian countries, corresponding to the rank of maréchal de camp in France. A Generalfeldwachtmeister ranked above a brigadier, but below a lieutenant general (Generalleutnant) (in Austria, Feldmarschalleutnant). The title may be literally translated as "master general of field guards", reflecting the original task of the office holder: the inspection of the pickets and the supervision of the dispositions of brigades and regiments in the field and on the march. Originating in the Middle Ages, the office holder originally oversaw the administration of borough courts on behalf of the lord of the manor. As towns emerged from manorial control to become chartered boroughs governed by corporations, the new governing bodies were given the right to appoint the steward in lieu of the lord. The office- holder was appointed by the Secretary of State and was the head of the Independent Review Service, located in Birmingham, the headquarters of the Social Fund Inspectors of Great Britain. There was also a small inspectorate in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

When Australia has a Coalition Government (as it does now), the Coalition Agreement mandates that all Coalition members support the leader of the Liberal Party becoming Prime Minister and mandates that the leader of the National Party be selected as Deputy Prime Minister. The present office- holder, Michael McCormack, was elected Leader of the National Party on Monday 26 February 2018 at a meeting at which the resignations of his predecessor, Barnaby Joyce, became effective. Joyce resigned following controversies over his actions and returned to the back bench. McCormack was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister later the same day.

Notably, it was not convened by Viscount FitzAlan, the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, who, by the Government of Ireland Act 1920, was the office-holder with the entitlement to convene a meeting of the House of Commons of Southern Ireland. The Provisional Government established by the treaty was constituted on 14 January 1922 at the above-mentioned meeting of members of the Parliament elected for constituencies in Southern Ireland. It began office two days later when Michael Collins became Chairman of the Provisional Government. Collins assumed charge of Dublin Castle at a ceremony attended by Lord FitzAlan.

It is confined to those who are public office holders, and is committed when the office holder acts (or neglects to act) in a way that constitutes a breach of the duties of that office. Pierre Boucher de la Bruère (baptized Joseph-René-Pierre-Hypolite) (July 5, 1837 - March 6, 1917) was a Canadian lawyer, journalist, author, office holder, and politician. Born in Saint-Hyacinthe, Lower Canada, the son of Pierre-Claude Boucher de La Bruère and Hippolyte Boucher de Labroquerie, he studied at the Séminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe. From 1857 to 1858 he studied law at the Université Laval and he was called to the bar of Lower Canada in 1860. He started practicing law in Saint-Hyacinthe and was protonotary for the judicial district of Saint-Hyacinthe from 1870 to 1875.

All former monarchies had styles, some, as in the Bourbon monarchy of France, extremely complicated depending on the status of the office or office-holder. Otto von Habsburg, who was Crown Prince of Austria- Hungary (1916–1918), had the style 'His Imperial and Royal Highness'. He was last addressed as such by church figures during the funeral of his late mother, Empress-Queen Zita of Austria-Hungary in 1989, although the use of these styles has been prohibited in Austria since 1920. Lord Gill, Lord Justice General from 2012–2015, issued guidance in 2013 on the use temporary judges which stipulated that: Further stating that the preference would be to allocate business to temporary judges who were already, had previously been, a judicial office holder (namely, sheriff principal or sheriff); as opposed to using temporary judges who were practising advocates or solicitor-advocates. Lord Gill's guidance allows for such judges to be allocated to any first instance business of the High Court, but requires the approval of the Lord Justice General for their deployment in the Appeal Court.

The office was created in October 1893 the first incumbent of the office was Captain Francis C. B. Bridgeman. From May, 1905 until July, 1912 the office holder also held the additional title of Flag Captain, Mediterranean Fleet or formally Flag Captain to the Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean Fleet. During a period of restructuring and cost cutting from 1954 and 1971 senior fleet commands were either abolished or merged into fewer but larger commands. As part of continuing cost cutting by the Ministry of Defence in 1967 the Mediterranean Fleet was abolished along with this office.

Stewart Mulvey (May 1834 - 26 May 1908) was a Canadian teacher, newspaper editor, militia officer, office holder and politician. Born in Sligo, Ireland, the son of Henry Mulvey and Barbara McGee, Mulvey was a teacher starting at the age of 16 in Irish National School system and the schools of the Church Educational Society. In 1856, he emigrated to Canada East at the invitation of Egerton Ryerson, the superintendent of education for Canada East, settling in Haldimand County where he was a teacher and editor of the local newspaper. He also served as a lieutenant in the 37th (Haldimand) Battalion of Rifles.

In addition, another Grade-2 office – Deputy Secretary (Central Services) – ranked equally with the Secretaries of each of the Departments, and formed part of the Scottish Office's management group (along with the Secretaries and Permanent Under-Secretary). The office- holder was responsible for matters of devolution, as well as the financial management of the Office and local authority finance.Scottish Government Yearbook 1979, p. 208. The office was established in response to the devolution policies of the Labour Government of 1974–79; "it became imperative to create devolution units at high level but separate from the departments".

Between 1954 and 1971 Royal Navy senior commands were either abolished or merged into fewer but larger commands. In November 1971, the Western Fleet was merged with the Far East Fleet to form a single seagoing command, commonly known as Fleet Command or the FLEET. The Chief of Staff Fleet was the principal staff officer of the Commander-in-Chief, Fleet's who was responsible for coordinating the supporting senior staff of Fleet Headquarters until April 2012 when the post was abolished. From February 1990 until April 2012 the office holder simultaneously held the joint title of Deputy Commander in Chief, the Fleet.

The Divine Adoratrice of Amun (Egyptian: dwꜣt nṯr n jmn) was a second title – after God's Wife of Amun – created for the chief priestess of the ancient Egyptian deity Amun. During the first millennium BCE, when the holder of this office exercised her largest measure of influence, her position was an important appointment facilitating the transfer of power from one pharaoh to the next, when his daughter was adopted to fill it by the incumbent office holder. The Divine Adoratrice ruled over the extensive temple duties and domains, controlling a significant part of the ancient Egyptian economy.

Breckinridge was born in 1842, a member of the prominent Breckinridge family, in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were Anne Sophonisba (née Preston) Breckinridge (1803–1844) and Robert Jefferson Breckinridge (1800–1871), a Presbyterian minister, politician, public office holder and abolitionist who was one of the most distinguished divines and one of the most prolific writers of the century. His father served as a leader of the Kentucky emancipation party in 1849 and was a strong Union man in 1861 at the outbreak of the Civil War.Brown, Alexander The Cabells and Their Kin: A Memorial Volume of History, Biography, and Genealogy (1895).

Police sub-inspector Alexander Tolmer held the other adjutant position in the S.A.V. On 17 June 1840, Litchfield was gazetted as a sub- inspector of the metropolitan (foot) branch of the South Australia Police.South Australian Register, 20 June 1840, p 6 The man who appointed him was Thomas Shuldham O’Halloran, then newly appointed as Commissioner of Police, and a former lieutenant of the 17th Foot, with whom Litchfield had served in India. O’Halloran was also major-commandant of the S.A.V. militia. Meanwhile, young Fred Litchfield’s education began at a private day school in Adelaide, and was finished at the Oddfellows School, of which Lodge his father was an office-holder.

Künneth interpreted Bultmann's challenge to mythologized Christianity as a second Confessional fight, and became the leading member of the group of "No Other Gospel", along with Peter Beyerhaus, Paul Deitenbeck, Rudolf Baumer, Gerhard Bergmann, and Wilhelm Busch. In March 1966, he founded with Baumer the "Düsseldorf Declaration". In the 1960s, he participated in lectures, panel discussions, and other public offerings and debates with thinkers like Gerhard Ebeling, Joachim Kahl, Heinz Zahrndt, Dorothee Solle, Jorg Zink, Ernst Kasemann, Gunther Klein, and Ernst Fuchs; as an ecclesiastical office holder and confessional Christian, he was an anomaly. In 1981, he received the Order of Maximillian for Art and Knowledge.

A sign of her prestige was the fact that the time period of the office of each Priestess was used as a time chronology in large parts of Greece. Garland, Robert, Religion and the Greeks, Bristol Classical Press, London, 1994 Hellanicus of Lesbos composed a chronology of all priestesses of Hera at Argos, going back to about 1000 BC. There are several different legends about whom the first office holder was. The office likely predated the temple, as the cult was celebrated in the open long before the sanctuary was built. The Priestess was likely selected from a family with inherited right to the office.

Except for the monarch, only the Crown Jeweller is authorised to handle the Crown Jewels; others may do so with his or her permission. The office holder is on call day and night, all year round to attend to the Jewels. William Summers, the sixth incumbent (1962–91), poetically said of his job: "Where the Crown goes, there go I". To celebrate Garrard & Co.'s 150th anniversary as the warrant holder, a banquet attended by Anne, Princess Royal, was held at Goldsmiths' Hall, London, in 1993. In 2007, Buckingham Palace announced that Garrard & Co.'s services were no longer required, the reason cited being that it was time for a change.

The cursus honorum of Priscus can be recovered from two inscriptions: the fragmentary one from Rome mentioned above, and one from Bononia in Aemilia. If we can trust the order of offices on this inscription to reflect the order they were held, his first recorded office was sevir equitum Romanorum of the annual review of the equites at Rome. Next was his membership as one of the tresviri monetalis, the most prestigious of the four boards that comprise the vigintiviri; assignment to this board was usually allocated to patricians or favored individuals. He then became a quaestor, which was important in providing the office holder admission to the Senate.

The office was originally created on 25 April 1513, by Tudor King Henry VIII. The office holder served as the deputy of the Lord High Admiral from April 1546 when the incumbent jointly held the title of Lieutenant of the Admiralty, though not always simultaneously. From 1557 to 1558 Vice-Admiral Sir John Clere of Ormesby, Kt. was appointed Vice-Admiral of England by patent but not appointed Lieutenant of the Admiralty. Daniel Woodley Prowse, (September 12, 1834 - January 27, 1914) was a lawyer, politician, judge, historian, essayist, and office holder. Born in Port de Grave, Newfoundland (now Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada), he was the fourth of the seven children of Robert Prowse and Jane Woodley. Prowse is the author of A History of Newfoundland which is considered one of the most complete and meticulous colonial history books in existence. Educated in St. John's and Collegiate School in Liverpool, England, Prowse went to Spain to learn the family business before he returned to Newfoundland where he studied law and articled with Bryan Robinson and eventually was called to the bar in 1858.

Ernye was appointed master of the horse in 1250 and held that office until 1251. He also served as ispán of Szolgagyőr (Galgóc) ispánate within Nyitra County in 1250-51, ispán of Varaždin County in 1251, Borsod County in 1254, and Bács County in 1256. An authentic charter issued in 1261 refers to him as "former ban of Transylvania" (), thus he held the office of voivode of Transylvania sometimes before that year. The last known office- holder was Lawrence, who functioned as voivode for 10 years between 1242 and 1252, but there is no evidence that Ernye had already filled the position since 1252.

Myers was deeply involved in public policy, as a Republican Party leader, a statewide office holder, and finally, as elder statesman. He is remembered for his work on some of Oregon's most innovative initiatives in land use planning, environmental and transportation policies and legislation. After his death, he was honored in a joint resolution of the Oregon State Legislature as "a gentle but tenacious leader who cared deeply about making Oregon a more livable and just place, and whose strong faith and unwavering efforts helped make Oregon a national model."In memoriam: "LC1270: H. He was overseer of the concentration camps, extermination camps (through the Concentration Camps Inspectorate and SS-TV), and the Einsatzgruppen mobile death squads (through the RSHA). Over time, his influence on both civil and foreign policy became marked, as the Reichsführer reported directly to Hitler and his actions were not tempered by checks and balances. This meant the office holder could implement broad policy, such as the Nazi plan for the Genocide or extermination of the Jews, or order criminal acts such as the Stalag Luft III murders, without impediment. It is difficult to separate the office from the duties assigned to the individual.

The Master of the Rolls in Ireland was a senior judicial office in the Irish Chancery under English and British rule, and was equivalent to the Master of the Rolls in the English Chancery. Originally called the Keeper of the Rolls, he was responsible for the safekeeping of the Chancery records such as close rolls and patent rolls. The office was created by letters patent in 1333, the first office holder being Edmund de Grimsby. As the Irish bureaucracy expanded, the duties of the Master of the Rolls came to be performed by subordinates and the position became a sinecure which was awarded to political allies of the Dublin Castle administration.

Louis Plamondon (April 29, 1785 - January 1, 1828) was an author, lawyer, militia officer and office holder in Lower Canada. Plamondon was born in L'Ancienne-Lorrette in the Province of Quebec. He was taken in charge by a local parish priest at age six, and was taught to read and write. He attended the Petit Séminaire de Québec and planned to enter the priesthood himself, but later chose to become a lawyer. He published a short work entitled Almanach des dames pour l’année 1807, par un jeune Canadien while still a legal scholar, and was licensed as an advocate, barrister, attorney, and solicitor on August 1, 1811.

220 In 1562 he was one of a number of law students who wrote and presented to the English Crown a book describing what they called the "wretched condition" of English rule in the Pale.Kenny p.50 The Queen and her ministers naturally took offence at these strictures on their Irish government, and regarded those responsible for the book with suspicion; but unlike some of the other students involved, notably Henry Burnell, William was never seen as an active opponent of the Crown. When he subsequently became an office holder, he was required to swear the usual oath to recognise Queen Elizabeth I as head of the Church of Ireland.

The head of state in many countries is honored with a prescribed piece of music; in some countries the national anthem serves this purpose, while others have a separate royal, presidential, or, historically, imperial anthem.

During the Middle Ages in countries such as England, the church acquired a substantial amount of real estate. As the church and religious orders were each recognised as a legal person separate from the office holder who administered the church land (such as the abbot or the bishop), the land would not escheat on the death of the holder, or pass by inheritance, as the church and the religious orders would not die. The land was held in perpetuity. This was in contrast to feudal practice in which the nobility would hold land granted by the king in return for service, especially service in war.

The role of the Portuguese president's spouse, be it "First Lady" or "First Gentleman", is not an official office and, as such, they are not given a salary or official duties. The first ladies have played a mere protocol role during official ceremonies and state visits. However, since 1996, under the presidency of Jorge Sampaio, the president's spouse has the right to a workplace and a three-people staff incorporated in the President's Office. In addition, according to the Portuguese State Protocol's order of precedence, the spouse of any high-ranking office holder is given the same rank as theirs, as long as the spouse is also invited to the ceremony.

Fenwick was the founding president of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association, and was also prominent in the industry's professional organisations. He also served as chairman of the New Zealand branch, of the Empire Press Union. He was an office-holder in many welfare and cultural organisations, including St. Mary's Orphanage, the Prisons Board, YMCA, Dunedin Public Art Gallery, New Zealand Nurses' Memorial Fund, Hocken Library, Otago Expansion League, Shipwreck Belief Society, Patriotic and General Welfare Association and the Patients' and Prisoners' Aid Society. To counter cruelty to horses in 1882 he led the founding of the Otago branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

She instead became Advocate General for Northern IrelandAttorney General's Office: Statement on Northern Ireland devolution, 12 April 2010 and a vacancy occurred. The current office-holder, John Larkin QC, is politically independent and took office on 24 May 2010,OFMDFM: Appointment of Attorney General announced, 24 May 2010 when he was appointed by First Minister Peter Robinson and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness. The role and powers of the Attorney General for Northern Ireland are provided in the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002. He or she is appointed for a term of not more than five years jointly by the First Minister and deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland.

George Henry Ham (23 August 1847 – 16 April 1926) was a Canadian journalist, writer, office holder, and lobbyist. Ham was born on 23 August 1847 in Trent Port (modern Trenton, Ontario) in the Province of Canada to Eliza Anne Eleanor Clute and John Vandal Ham, a country doctor of Loyalist stock who later took up law. Ham rejected his father's wish that he become a lawyer to pursue journalism, first at the Whitby Chronicle in 1865. He became editor of the Whitby Gazette, where he capitalized on interest in the Franco-Prussian War by issuing it as a four-page daily in mid-1870.

Generally, the provincial secretary acted as a province's registrar-general and was responsible for formal documents and records such as licences, birth and death certificates, land registries and surveys, business registrations and writs. As well, the position was generally responsible for the administration of the civil service and of elections. Provincial secretaries were usually the most senior member of the provincial cabinet outside of the premier, and the office holder was often designated as acting premier when the premier was out of province, ill or otherwise unavailable. The position of provincial secretary was particularly important in Manitoba from 1870 to 1874, as that province's institutions were being established.

While automating voter registration procedures, Bettencourt won reelection in 2000, 2004, and 2008, and set the highest record vote total, 607,085, in a contested major party race of any Republican office holder to date for Harris County in 2004. The Democratic Party and plaintiffs filed suit and requested a temporary restraining order against the Voter Registrar Bettencourt after the 2008 election, asking a Federal Judge to block the counting of 7000+ provisional ballots from the November 2008 election. However, the temporary restraining order was denied by the Judge. All 7000+ provisional ballots were reviewed by Election Officials, and either rejected or accepted and then electronically counted.

Misfeasance in public office is a cause of action in the civil courts of England and Wales and certain Commonwealth countries. It is an action against the holder of a public office, alleging in essence that the office-holder has misused or abused their power. The tort can be traced back to 1703 when Chief Justice Sir John Holt decided that a landowner could sue a police constable who deprived him of his right to vote (Ashby v White). The tort was revived in 1985 when it was used so that French turkey producers could sue the Ministry of Agriculture over a dispute that harmed their sales.

Kerr remarried during his term; De L'Isle remarried after his term had finished. The longest-serving spouse has been Zara Hore-Ruthven, Countess of Gowrie, wife of the longest-serving governor-general, Alexander Hore-Ruthven, 1st Earl of Gowrie, who served nine years from 1936 to 1945. The shortest- serving spouse was Alison Morrison, Viscountess Dunrossil, wife of William Morrison, 1st Viscount Dunrossil, who died in 1961, one year and one day after taking up the office, being the only governor-general to die in office; Viscountess Dunrossil died in 1983. Most of the spouses of governors-general have been content to be background figures providing the office-holder with support.

The majority of the powers exercised by the lieutenant governor are statutory and have been assigned by the Indiana General Assembly. The first additional powers granted to the lieutenant governor were added in 1932 when the office holder was made the head of the state's agricultural commission. The office's powers have since expanded to include the chairmanship of the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, Office of Energy and Defense Development, and the Office of Tourism Development. Simply being received by the Queen is taken to validate the selection, with this meeting being described in the Court Circular as "kissing hands". The invitation issued to a party leader to form a government is sometimes still described as "an invitation to kiss hands".

The 6th Earl Spencer; Vice-Chamberlain of the Household 1892–1895 The Vice- Chamberlain of the Household is a member of the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom. The office-holder is usually a junior government whip in the British House of Commons ranking third or fourth after the Chief Whip and the Deputy Chief Whip. He or she is the Deputy to the Lord Chamberlain of the Household. The Vice-Chamberlain's main roles are to compile a daily private report to the Sovereign on proceedings in the House of Commons and to relay addresses from the Commons to the Sovereign and back.

The President of the Republic of Turkey () is the head of state and head of government of the Republic of Turkey. Following the 2018 general election, the incumbent office-holder assumed the role of an executive president and holds both ceremonial and executive status. In this capacity, the president represents the Republic of Turkey, and the unity of the Turkish nation, as well as ensuring the implementation of the Constitution of Turkey and the organized and harmonious functioning of the organs of state. The articles from 101 to 106 of the Constitution establish all the requirements, election, duties, and responsibilities for the office of the president.

The chamber was reorganized and renamed Kammarkollegium during the first decades of the 17th century. It was one of five branches of the government from 1634, and the head of the Kammarkollegium, the Lord High Treasurer, was fifth in rank among the five Great Officers of the Realm. That meant that the office holder was not only one of the most prominent members of the Swedish Privy Council, but also a member of the government ruling the country during the minority of a king or regnal queen. Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie - Lord High Treasurer 1652-1660 The first Lord High Treasurer of Sweden was Seved Ribbing (1602–1613).

Note: although the text talks about Indian state governments in general, it applies for the specific case of Gujarat as well. Gujarat state was created on 1 May 1960, composed of the Gujarati-speaking districts of Bombay State. Since then sixteen people have served as its chief minister including inaugural office-holder Jivraj Narayan Mehta, one of several Indian National Congress members to serve in the role and Narendra Modi who is Current Prime Minister and one of the several members of Bharatiya Janata Party.Longest-serving chief minister is Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who served for twelve and a half years from 2001 to 2014.

In diplomacy, a courtesy call is a formal meeting in which a diplomat or representative or a famous person of a nation pays a visit out of courtesy to a head of state or state office holder. Courtesy calls may be paid by another head of state, a prime minister, a minister (Government), or a diplomat. The meeting is usually of symbolic value and rarely involves a detailed discussion of issues.Paradiplomacy: Cities and States as Global Players, Rodrigo Tavares A newly appointed head of mission will usually make a courtesy call to the receiving foreign minister, head of government, and often other dignitaries such as the local mayor.

For his military service and loyalty, Job was granted the village of Radácsfalva in Sáros County in August 1273. In that year, he was referred to as rector of the royal chefs; he is the only known office-holder, who bore that courtly title or dignity. Historian Péter Kis considered its same function with the ispáns (or heads) of the various royal servants. In this position, Job was superior of the royal chefs and the additional large staff of the courtyard kitchen, and perhaps the business affairs of its operation also belonged to his function. Job participated in the failed 1283–84 royal campaign against the powerful Kőszegi family.

Hugh Boscawen (died 1795) was a British politician and office holder who sat in the House of Commons from 1774 to 1790. Boscawen was one of three illegitimate children of Hugh Boscawen, 2nd Viscount Falmouth. He married Anne and had three sons and a daughter. He was appointed Clerk of the Cheque to the Yeomen of the Guard in February 1772, while his father was Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard and held the post until his death.The Queen’s Bodyguard of the Yeoman of the Guard In the 1774 general election Boscawen was returned unopposed as Member of Parliament for St Mawes where the Boscawens had an interest.

The Archdeacon of Ashford is a senior office-holder in the Diocese of Canterbury (a division of the Church of England Province of Canterbury). The Archdeacon of Ashford is an Anglican priest oversees the Archdeaconry of Ashford, which is one of three subdivisions of the diocese. The first incumbent was Philip Down, who was collated Archdeacon of Ashford on 13 March 2011News from Canterbury Diocese – Philip Down welcomed as the first Archdeacon of Ashford and who retired effective 15 October 2017. The second and current archdeacon is Darren Miller,Diocese of Canterbury — New Archdeacon of Ashford announced (Accessed 14 August 2017) who was collated on 13 January 2018.

The Lord High Chancellor (), literally Chancellor of the Realm, was a prominent and influential office in Sweden, from 1538 until 1799, excluding periods when the office was out of use. The office holder was a member of the Privy Council. From 1634, the Lord High Chancellor was one of five Great Officers of the Realm, who were the most prominent members of the Privy Council and headed a governmental branch each—the Lord High Chancellor headed the Privy Council. In 1792, more than a century after the office's abolishment in 1680, it was revived but was then finally abolished seven years later in 1799.

She was the daughter of the Divine Adoratrice of Amun, Huy. Next on the list is, Meritamen, a daughter of Thutmose III and Merytre-Hatshepsut, thereby the sister of his ultimate heir. After all of those changes during his long reign, the office holder was the daughter of Thutmose III, returning to the traditional association. Amenhotep II seems to be the one who initiated the attempts to remove records of Hatshepsut's reign while his father was an old man and continued these efforts after he became pharaoh in his own right, claiming many of her achievements as his own, but failing to be thorough.

However, it also considered that the provisions of the code were insufficiently clear so as to distinguish between the appropriate use of a photograph of an office holder as part of a necessary advertising campaign and an inappropriate raising of profile in the context of a general election. The Standards Commission wrote to the Taoiseach and requested that the provisions of section 2.2.3 of the Code of Conduct for office holders be reviewed in order that office holders are provided with clear guidelines as to the circumstances in which public resources can be used in a way which avoids the inappropriate raising of profile in the context of a general election.

Solomon was first mentioned as Master of the treasury in 1214; former archontological and biographical works (e.g. Wertner) referred to him as the first known office-holder who was appointed to this position, however Attila Zsoldos' archontology has outlined the 12th-century preliminaries of the position. Nevertheless, the office of Master of the treasury became a permanent dignity with defined and circumscribed jurisdiction under Solomon Atyusz. He served in that capacity until 1215, when he was replaced by Denis, son of Ampud, the most trusted financial adviser of Andrew II. As the Regestrum Varadinense wrote, Solomon also functioned as ispán of Bács County during that time in 1214.

Until 2016, appointees to the DG position were Officers of the Indian Navy deputed to the Coast Guard. The current office holder, Krishnaswamy Natarajan, is the second direct entry Coast Guard officer to head the service. While several previous Directors General have come from the Coast Guard stream – such as Rameshwar Singh and P. Paleri – they have all initially been commissioned into the Indian Navy before later being permanently deputed to the Coast Guard service. Rajendra Singh has the distinction of being the first regular direct entry officer of the Indian Coast Guard to be promoted to the position of ADG and to achieve three-star rank, doing so on 11 January 2013.

These English ministers, alarmed at the progress of French revolutionary principles in Ireland, fearing a foreign invasion, wished to have the Catholics contented. In 1795 further concessions seemed imminent. In that year an illiberal viceroy, Lord Westmoreland, was replaced by the liberal-minded Lord Fitzwilliam, who came understanding it to be the wish of Pitt that the Catholic claims were to be conceded. He at once dismissed from office a rapacious office-holder named Beresford, so powerful that he was called the "King of Ireland"; he refused to consult Lord Chancellor Fitzgibbon or Foster, the Speaker; he took Grattan and Ponsonby into his confidence, and declared his intention to support Grattan's bill admitting Catholics to Parliament.

Thus, one argument made to justify the non-existence of a permanent deputy is that such an office-holder would be seen as possessing a presumption of succession to the premiership, thereby effectively limiting the sovereign's right to choose a prime minister. However, only two Deputy Prime Ministers have gone on to become Prime Minister and not because either had been Deputy Prime Minister: Clement Attlee because he led his party to victory in the 1945 general election and Anthony Eden because he became Leader of the Conservative party after Churchill in 1955.

Brigi Rafini, as a civil administrator, minister, and office holder, has represented four different political parties since the 1980s. He was a member of the National Movement for the Development of Society (MNSD) during the time it was the unitary party (1989–1991), left to join the breakaway faction that became the Nigerien Alliance for Democracy and Progress (ANDP) during the democratic Third Republic (1993–1996), and helped form the ruling Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP-Jama'a) party during the presidency of Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara (1996–1999). He served as a parliamentarian and assembly officer under the RDP in opposition during the Fifth Republic (1999–2009). He has since been reported to have formally joined the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS), elected to power in 2011.

In such cases, the candidate contests the election against a NOTA option (commonly referred to as kotak kosong/empty box), and is declared the winner if they manage to secure a majority of the valid votes. Otherwise, the election will be postponed to the next occurrence; the government of Indonesia appoints an acting office holder until the new election, in which the losing candidate is eligible to stand again. There were 3 uncontested seats in the 2015 local elections, nine in the 2017 local elections, and at least 13 in the 2018 local elections (including the mayoral elections for Tangerang and Makassar).

Unusually for an academic textbook, Dicey, Morris & Collins is set out in a series of "Rules". The format dates from the time when there was relatively little case law or statute law on the subject, and A.V. Dicey tried to formulate the text from first principles. The format became something of a self-fulfilling prophecy as during the evolution of the subject judges would often cite rules in the textbook as authoritative propositions for their rulings (see for example, Singularis Holdings Limited v PricewaterhouseCoopers [2014] UKPC 36 at paragraph 12"Moreover, while the same rule did not apply to immovable property, the court would ordinarily appoint the foreign office- holder a receiver of the rents and profits: see Dicey, Morris & Collins, The Conflict of Laws, 15th ed, rules 216 and 217." per Lord Sumption.).

According to Andrew Motion and Hilary Laurie, Tennyson "gave the poet laureateship new status and significance" with works such as "Ode on the Death of the Duke of Wellington" and "The Charge of the Light Brigade". On 31 August 2005, Madraiwiwi became the first high-ranking office-holder in Fiji to call for homosexuality to be legalised. Speaking at the opening of the Fiji Medical Association conference in Suva, he said that while he acknowledged the abhorrence of many great religions towards homosexuality, he thought that what sexual acts people do in private is no business of the state. "Whatever one's views about it, those who choose to practise that lifestyle in private surely have a right to do so," he said. Madraiwiwi's comments flew in the face of pressure from the Methodist and other churches, as well as some Hindu and Muslim organisations, to close the loopholes in the law which allowed a Fijian citizen and a foreigner who had been convicted of homosexual acts to walk free in late August.

Latika Bose agreed to form the MRS only after some thought because she knew that this would involve her having a high-profile connection to the Indian National Congress and thus would pit her against the British Raj authorities and prevent her from being accepted for employment by the Raj Educational Service. Despite the opinion of Subhas, Latika selected his mother, Prabhabati Bose, to be the first president and Latika's sister-in-law, Bivabati, became the first vice-president. Subhas had wanted Basanti Devi to be president but Latika considered her to be too distant for most Bengali women because of the extent to which Devi had been westernised, and she also appreciated that having the mother of the most prominent Bengali nationalist as an office- holder would appeal to potential supporters. Latika Bose herself took the role of secretary.

The Case for the South, described in 2013 by Loyola history professor and author Elizabeth Shermer as "a compendium of segregationist arguments that hit all the high points of regional apologia", was sent by Thurmond to each of his Senate colleagues and then-vice president Richard Nixon. The 87th United States Congress began without a move to remove Thurmond from the ranks of the Senate Democrats, in spite of Thurmond's predictions to the contrary. An aide for Senator Joseph S. Clark Jr. said there was never an intention to pursue recourse against Thurmond for not supporting the 1960 Democratic ticket and an interview, in which Senator Clark expressed the opinion that Thurmond should no longer be a member of the party, was only a personal view of Clark and not reflective of his intent as an office holder.

The office holder evolved out of an earlier post in 1796 when an Inspector-General of Naval Works was appointed to superintend the Naval Works Department then under the Board of Admiralty with responsibility for all civil engineering works in the royal naval dockyards. In 1806 the Commissioners of Enquiry for Revising and Digesting the Civil Affairs of the Royal Navy produced a fourth report (since 1785) in which they recommended the abolition of the Inspector-Generals Department as a semi-autonomous function and recommended the role be re-styled and its responsibilities broadened. In 1807 the title was changed to the Civil Architect and Engineer of the Navy his department then reported directly to the Navy Board. In 1813 the title and role was changed to Surveyor of Buildings whose responsibilities shifted focus towards architectural works.

The heads of the community, who were unable to handle the Greek state, took a decision that was unanimous among all the political factions in the city to bring in a Chief Rabbi from outside, after the community had been without such an office-holder for ten years. The chosen Rabbi was Dr. Zvi Koretz, a young man with a PhD in Oriental Studies from Vienna University, who was also a graduate of the Rabbinical Seminar in Berlin. The office of the Vice President falls under the aegis of the office of President despite having its own entity as it provides for the support of the President in case the latter is incapable to perform duties as prescribed by the constitution.

It is plausible that he is identical with that magister John, who served as provost of the St. Emmeram's Cathedral in Nyitra in the period between 1298 and 1299. John is the only known office-holder in the medieval kingdom of Hungary, who presided the cathedral chapter of Nyitra with the title of provost (otherwise, the church was headed by the lector, then the vicar). On the other hand, as historian Zoltán Kordé emphasizes, 13th-century royal charters mentioned other royal officials who ruled Székely groups, suggesting that the office had not been established in the previous century. For instance, a royal charter narrated of an army of Saxon, Vlach, Székely, and Pecheneg troops fighting in Bulgaria under the command of Joachim, Count of Hermannstadt, in the early 1210s, which suggests Bogomer could be the first-ever office-holder, who possibly became count already in 1226. Kordé argued Andrew II granted autonomy to colonial Saxons of Hermannstadt region in Southern Transylvania, when issued Diploma Andreanum (1224), just before the following year, when he launched a campaign against the Teutonic Knights, who had attempted to eliminate his suzerainty. According to Kordé, the standardization of the Székelys' status took place in the same time.

Provincial secretaries were usually the most senior member of the provincial cabinet outside of the Premier, and the office holder was often designated as Acting Premier when the Premier was out of province, ill or otherwise unavailable. The last individual to hold the position of Provincial Secretary and Registrar (renamed Provincial Secretary and Minister of Citizenship in 1961) was John Yaremko who left office in 1975. In 1972 the Progressive Conservative government of Bill Davis adopted the provincial secretary title for a non-departmental cabinet portfolio in which the occupant either having responsibility spreading over several ministries, assisting a senior minister in an area or as a secondary portfolio for a senior minister giving him a broader responsibility or mandate area. Willett was connected by marriage to the family of John Brown(e), shipbuilder, perennial political office holder, founder of several towns, and one of the wealthiest men in the Plymouth Colony. Although Brown(e)'s origins are uncertain and subject to present debate, he was evidently very well connected in England, as near the end of his life he returned there for several years as executor of the estate of Sir Henry Vane the Elder; the Sir Henry Vanes, elder and younger, played major roles in England at the time of the English Civil War. The Brown(e) family also had ties to earliest Plymouth through the marriage of John Brown(e)'s son, James, to Lydia Howland, daughter of John Howland, one of the Mayflower passengers; Howland collaborated in Willett's early fur-trading efforts.Nathaniel Philbrick.

Szőcs argues Denis Tomaj unusually held ispánates in Eastern Hungary beside his position of Palatine, which laid near to the Cuman tribes' lands, thus he could be the first office-holder who became judge of the Cumans. Contrary to Denis Tomaj, later Palatines after the Battle of Mohi (11 April 1241), for instance Ladislaus Kán, Denis Türje, Roland I Rátót and Henry Kőszegi originated from Transdanubian kindreds, causing the decline and marginalization of the dignity of judge of the Cumans, in addition to the emerging civil war between Béla IV and his son Duke Stephen. Cuman autonomy (yellow) in late 13th century Following the war, the Cuman territories became part of Stephen's realm, who adopted the title of junior king and lord of the Cumans () in 1262. Duke Stephen also married Elizabeth, daughter of Zeyhan, a Cuman chieftain.

The Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs is the head of the private office of the foreign minister of the Her Majesty's Government, and is located in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Main Building. At the start of the 19th century, the Foreign Secretary would have had one or two private secretaries, who were often personal appointments of the office-holder. As the complexity of British foreign policy grew significantly, and consequently the size of the private office expanded to provide policy and administrative support; the chief civil servant in the private office became the Principal Private Secretary. Today, he or she is the head of a small department, and the post is a senior and prestigious one, now typically held for a two-year term by an experienced officer from the Diplomatic Service.

A 26-year-old man was acquitted on obstruction of justice charges stemming from his distribution of FIJA literature at the Perry County, Pennsylvania courthouse in 1994. In 1996, a 53-year-old man was arrested for passing out FIJA pamphlets to prospective jurors at the Clark County, Nevada courthouse. In 1995, a 51-year-old mother was charged with jury tampering for papering the windshields of cars near the federal courthouse with FIJA literature when her son was on trial and facing a heavy mandatory minimum sentence for drug offenses. In 2014, a candidate running for office in Greene County, Illinois was charged with jury tampering two weeks before his primary election for allegedly communicating with and providing a link to the FIJA website to another local office holder via a public Facebook post after that public figure posted that he had been summoned for jury duty.

William Fisher Luxton (12 December 1844 - 20 May 1907) was a Canadian teacher, newspaper editor and publisher, politician, and office holder. Born in Bampton, Devon, England, his mother was Jane Palmer Luxton (1819–1859), daughter of Thomas Luxton (1773-1840) and Jenny Palmer (1791–1860), of Hutchings Farm, Bampton, Petton, Devonshire. William was baptized on December 26, 1843 at St. John the Baptist Church, Skilgate, Somerset, where his mother was visiting with other members of the Luxton family for the Christmas holiday. In the 1851 English census William, age 7, was recorded residing at "Hutchings" with his uncle Thomas Luxton (1825–1849) and his grandmother Jenny. Luxton migrated to Canada in about 1855, and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1871. In 1871, he moved to Winnipeg to teach in the first school established under the provisions of the Manitoba Schools Act of 1871.

The democratic element was not as strong as the mayor's words may seem to imply: in fact, Poitiers was similar to other French cities, Paris, Nantes, Marseille, Limoges, La Rochelle, Dijon, in that the town's governing body (corps de ville) was "highly exclusive and oligarchical": a small number of professional and family groups controlled most of the city offices. In Poitiers many of these positions were granted for the lifetime of the office holder.2 The city government in Poitiers based its claims to legitimacy on the theory of government where the mayor and échevins held jurisdiction of the city's affairs in fief from the king: that is, they swore allegiance and promised support for him, and in return he granted them local authority. This gave them the advantage of being able to claim that any townsperson who challenged their authority was being disloyal to the king.

Conrad is first mentioned by contemporary records in 1239, when he was already an adult. Historian Norbert C. Tóth argued a hypothetical Baranya branch of the kindred became extinct by the First Mongol invasion of Hungary (1241–42), thus Conrad inherited their lands in Baranya County as the closest relative within the Győr clan. Initially, he belonged to the courtiers of King Béla IV; he appeared as Master of the stewards in the court of queen consort Maria Laskarina in 1253. Former historiographical works considered that his contemporary Conrad Szák held that dignity, but historian Attila Zsoldos revealed that the office-holder named Conrad owned Alásony – as Conrad Győr dit it. Mikhail Mishustin, the incumbent Prime Minister Approximately 99 people have been head of the Russian government since its establishment in 1726. The chairman of government was a member of the Supreme Privy Council, which was created on (19) February 1726 by Empress Catherine, and from (20) September 1802 ministerial duties were allocated by the Committee of Ministers, which was established on in accordance with the proclamation of Emperor Alexander II. Beginning with Count Aleksandr Romanovich Vorontsov, the eldest of the officers was de facto chairman of the committee. Eight years after the inauguration of the manifest, the first de jure office holder was Count Nikolay Rumyantsev. The Council of Ministers was unofficially formed in October 1857, as a result of Emperor Alexander II's reforms; its first session began on (31) December 1857. In 1897, Dr. Minnie C.T. Love, a physician, political office holder, suffragist, and a member of the Women of the Ku Klux Klan, led the founding of the Babies Summer Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Denver's high-country ventilation was touted as a cure for a variety of diseases. Using a mix of fresh air and Colorado sunshine, six medical staff and volunteer nurses treated up to 50 children under the age of five. Early on, those volunteers saw a need for a permanent hospital that would "care for sick, injured and crippled children from birth to 16 years of age" and which would be supported mainly by volunteer contributions. Also in 1912 he was appointed one of the Commissioners on the Royal Commission of Inquiry into methods of appointment in the Civil Service. He was made a Lord of the Treasury in the Liberal government of H.H. Asquith in February 1915, then was appointed Vice- Chamberlain of the Household on the formation of the wartime coalition government in May 1915. He continued in this post until June 1917, when he was appointed one of the Parliamentary Secretaries and Controller of Finance to the Ministry of National Service. In religion he was to all appearances a zealous Protestant, who was willing to enforce strictly the laws against recusancy, even where friends and relatives were concerned. He issued a proclamation denouncing several Catholic priests, including the prominent Jesuit James Archer (a Kilkenny man whom he must have known personally) as "seditious traitors". Carstensen was the CDU's candidate for premier of Schleswig-Holstein in the state election of 20 February 2005; he led the CDU to its best result since Uwe Barschel’s resignation in 1987 with 40.2% of all votes cast, making the CDU the strongest party in the state parliament for the first time since 1983. William Saxey aroused much indignation in 1599 when he refused to resign as Chief Justice on being appointed a justice of the Court of King's Bench (Ireland), a fault compounded by the fact that he apparently never sat in the latter Court. On the other hand, it was understood that the office holder could expect to be promoted in due course to one of the courts of common law and possibly become its Chief Justice, as James Dowdall, Sir Nicholas Walsh and Lord Sarsfield did. Examples include party conferences in many countries, where the speech of the party leader is rewarded with a "stage managed" standing ovation as a matter of course, and the State of the Union Address of the President of the United States (see ovations at 6:15 and 7:00 ). It is routine, rather than exceptional, for this address to be introduced, interrupted and followed by standing ovations, from both the president's own party and his political opponents. However, by tradition all ovations that occur before the speech begins, as opposed to those that interrupt it, are given in praise of the office itself, rather than the individual office- holder, and the president is never introduced by name.

The word "office" may also denote a position within an organization with specific duties attached to it (see officer, office-holder, official); the latter is in fact an earlier usage, office as place originally referring to the location of one's duty. When used as an adjective, the term "office" may refer to business-related tasks. In law, a company or organization has offices in any place where it has an official presence, even if that presence consists of (for example) a storage silo rather than an establishment with desk-and-chair.

Other finds include Judean stone weights, weaponry—including a rare arrowhead of the Scytho-Iranian type—introduced to Jerusalem by the forces of Nebuchadnezzar II, and inscription bearing artifacts, including a LMLK seal, dozens of ostraca and several seals and sealing (bullae), the most prominent among them being the Immer Bulla, a broken sealing, paleographically dated to the 7th–6th century BC and bearing the incomplete given name [...]lyahu and the patronym Immer, the name of a well known Biblical priestly family, whose one member is recorded as a major office holder in the Temple. The sealing, which bears on its back fiber impressions, was affixed to a cloth sack, pouch, or lid, possibly relating to the Temple treasury.

Satan claims to have the power to travel the whole universe, since evil permeates all of reality, and gives Norton some samples of this ability by having him travel to other planets where, Satan claims, time flows backwards, allowing Norton to live normally and to get involved in both a space opera ("Bat Durston and the BEMS") and an epic fantasy adventure. Satan offers Norton the ability to have that power if Norton will grant Satan a favour; to go back in time 20 years and save a man from committing suicide. Norton goes back in time to check out this young man, but after consulting with the other Incarnations, he is informed that this man is the current office holder of the Incarnation of Death (Thanatos—in other words, Zane, from the previous novel) and that it is Zane's attempted suicide that brought him to that position. This man is needed as Thanatos to protect his girlfriend, Luna Kaftan, from Satan's mischief so she can go into politics and fulfill a prophecy of thwarting Satan.

Hereditary government form differs from elected government. An established order of succession is the normal way of passing on hereditary positions, and also provides immediate continuity after an unexpected vacancy in cases where office-holders are chosen by election: the office does not have to remain vacant until a successor is elected. In some cases the successor takes up the full role of the previous office-holder, as in the case of the presidency of many countries; in other non-hereditary cases there is not a full succession, but a caretaker chosen by succession criteria assumes some or all of the responsibilities, but not the formal office, of the position. For example, when the position of President of India becomes vacant, the Vice- President of India carries out the essential functions of the presidency until a successor is elected; in contrast, when the position of President of the Philippines is vacant, the Vice-President of the Philippines outright assumes the presidency itself for the rest of the term.

Historically, there were two solicitors in the Treasury. The first (The Solicitor for Negotiating and Looking after the Affairs of the Treasury), which existed alone until 1696, had become a sinecure by 1744, and perhaps as early as 1716; from the late 18th century the office included a salary of £200 a year. It was abolished in 1800. A second Treasury Solicitor, the precursor of the modern office, was established in 1696 and was assigned all the legal business undertaken in Westminster Hall; as the first Solicitor became a sinecure, the second Solicitor became the only one responsible for legal business. By 1786, its office-holder was carrying out legal work for other secretaries of state and the Attorney-General, and in the early nineteenth century was employed by other government departments as well. From 1794, the Solicitor was also barred from running their own private practice. The salary began at £500, increased to £1,000 in 1755 and then to £2,000 in 1794; until the 1830s, the Solicitor also charged fees for work done in departments outside the Treasury, but these were then abolished and he received an allowance of £850 in addition to his salary. The whole salary was fixed at £2,000 in 1851, and then increased to £2,500 in 1872.
