An obturating ring is a ring of relatively soft material designed to obturate under pressure to form a seal. Obturating rings are often found in artillery and other ballistics applications, and similar devices are also used in other applications such as plumbing, like the olive in a compression fitting. The term "O-ring" is sometimes used to describe this kind of pressure seal.

Gradually however, the tubules obturate and lead to dentinal sclerosis. The innermost layer containing the nerves, pulp, develops more fibres and less cells leading to shrinkage. A reduced blood supply means that an elderly patient’s pulp does not have the same capacity to heal itself compared with younger patients. In some cases it may be downsized gradually so that tissue can strengthen over time and compensate for the decreasing size of the obturator. The palatal lift however, is used when there is not enough palatal movement. It raises the palate and reduces the range of movement necessary to provide adequate closure to separate the nasal cavity from the oral cavity. The Minié ball is a conical bullet with three exterior grease-filled grooves and a conical hollow in its base. The bullet was designed by Minié with a small iron plug and a lead skirting. Its intended purpose was to expand under the pressure of the powder deflagration, pressing the skirt out to grip the rifling, and secondarily to obturate the barrel and increase muzzle velocity. The precursor to the Minié ball was created in the 1830s by the French Army captains Montgomery and Henri-Gustave Delvigne.

Again, Iniquity loses a member, this time bassist Claus Zeeberg decides to leave, he is replaced by Thomas Christensen. Yet more touring and now it's keyboard player Carsten Nielsen who leaves Iniquity. After an appearance on the live compilation Brutal Youth with two new songs "Prophecy of the Dying Watcher" and "Mockery Retained to Obturate", Haarløv leaves and Lars Friis enters the fold. In 1995 the band signed a deal with Emanzipation Productions and entered the well known Borsing Studio together with Jan Borsing to record their first full-length album Serenadium.

Root canal is also a colloquial term for a dental operation, endodontic therapy, wherein the pulp is cleaned out, the space disinfected and then filled. When rotary nickel titanium (NiTi) files are used in canals with flat-oval or tear-shaped cross sections, a circular bore is created due to the rotational action of the metal. Also, small cavities within the canal such as the buccal or lingual recesses may not be instrumented within the tooth, potentially leaving residual disease during disinfection. Tissue or biofilm remnants along such un-instrumented recesses may lead to failure due to both inadequate disinfection and the inability to properly obturate the root-canal space.

Wolf never imported nor manufactured ammunition with a lacquer coating on the cartridge casing. It has always been an acrylic-polymer coating, first a clear one, and in the last decade mostly a more "frosted" coating. People often incorrectly referred to the clear coating as "lacquer" and claimed it "melted" in the chamber of heated firearms, but it was obviously not lacquer, and numerous articles and videos online have shown that even a blowtorch will not melt the coating or even soften it, disproving the myth of "melted lacquer". Tests have shown that steel-cased Wolf cases do not obturate sufficiently to form a good gas seal against the chambertheboxotruth.
