Howard followed up this tale with the now-classic revenge nightmare "Worms of the Earth" and several other tales, creating horrific adventures tinged with a Cthulhu-esque gloss and notable for their use of metaphor and symbolism. In the pilot episode, Booch talks Chazz into disguising themselves as older men to purchase lottery tickets, with the idea of eventually stealing from the convenience store if they didn't win the jackpot. It just happened to be the older Charles' convenience store they came to; Charles watched himself (Chazz) and Booch attempt to get away with their plan. He then stepped in and began gently manipulating them with sage advice in order to get the boys (namely himself) to do the right thing. Fang misleads the other members of Blade's Pack that he lost the five and says that they should look elsewhere for them - Blade and Mace, however, quickly abuse Fang for not catching Storm this time. Lucky and the others hide until Blade's Pack has gone far away, and they escape the ruined town and fairground, Moon really needing to be reunited with her son and daughter, Beetle and Thorn, again. By late sunset, the five traveling dogs take shelter in an empty rocky cave right on the beach for the night, though at one point they are woken up to find that the cave has been flooded due to high tide. Fortunately, Lucky finds a tunnel that goes deeper into the cave, and, with him taking the lead, they are eventually led out of the tunnel and back into open air.

The Ghatnandur train crash occurred on 3 January 2003, when a passenger train travelling from Secunderabad to Manmad crashed into the rear end of a heavy goods train near Ambajogai tehsil Ghatnandur in Maharashtra, India. The accident happened in the early morning of the 3rd, when the passenger train, which was supposed to bypass the station on a loop line, was not transferred onto this line by the station officers at Ghatnandur, and so collided with the stationary freight train berthed on the main line of the station. Three carriages were derailed, thanks to the driver, who was killed, slowing the train down at the last minute. Rescue operations, initially carried out by local people, then by military and emergency services, were able to rescue most of the trapped and injured people quickly, helped by the wreckage not catching fire, as often happens in the circumstances.

Most baseball historians agree that Wally Schang was the greatest offensive catcher of the deadball (pre-1920) era. When Schang was not catching, his managers usually played him in center field, right, or at third base, in order to keep his bat in the lineup. Schang's defensive work was also regarded as outstanding, although he holds the American League career record for most errors by a catcher, with 223. Schang was discovered by George Stallings in 1912, when he played in the sandlots of upstate New York for the Buffalo Pullmans. Schang started his major league career with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1913, who won the World Series in five games against the New York Giants and returned the next year, only to be swept by the 1914 Miracle Braves, who were managed by Schang's mentor, George Stallings. After Connie Mack sold many of his players following the 1914 Series, Schang played for three last-place Athletics teams in 1915–1917, until being sold to the Boston Red Sox before the 1918 season.
