Potamotrygon jabuti is a valuable species in the aquarium trade, but export of wild-caught individuals from Brazil (as opposed to captive bred) is illegal. Freshwater stingrays are often kept in aquariums, but require a very large tank and will eat small tank mates. Although generally non-aggressive, their venomous stinger represents a risk and on occasion aquarists have been stung. The ease of keeping varies significantly: Some such as Potamotrygon motoro are considered relatively hardy in a captive setting, while others such as Paratrygon aiereba, Plesiotrygon nana and Potamotrygon tigrina are much more difficult to maintain.

In addition to pain caused by the barbed stinger itself and the venom, bacterial infections of the wounds are common and may account for a greater part of the long-term problems in stinging victims than the actual venom. The stings are typically highly painful and are occasionally fatal to humans, especially people living in rural areas that only seek professional medical help when the symptoms have become severe.

The parents are non-aggressive usually when the nest area is breached but the female may dive and call if a person climbs directly to their nest, sometimes also the male, often doing so silently.

According to research published in Insectes Sociaux in 2009, it was discovered that ants from three Argentine ant supercolonies in America, Europe, and Japan, that were previously thought to be separate, were in fact most likely to be genetically related. The three colonies in question were one in Europe, stretching along the Mediterranean coast, the "Californian large" colony, stretching along the coast of California, and a third on the west coast of Japan. Based on a similarity in the chemical profile of hydrocarbons on the cuticles of the ants from each colony, and on the ants' non-aggressive and grooming behaviour when interacting, compared to their behaviour when mixing with ants from other super-colonies from the coast of Catalonia in Spain and from Kobe in Japan, researchers concluded that the three colonies studied actually represented a single global super-colony. The researchers stated that the "enormous extent of this population is paralleled only by human society", and had probably been spread and maintained by human travel.

In Episode 2.6, it is revealed that Oliver's men somehow captured two Scutosaurus and that they have become part of Oliver's creature army; they escape along with the other creatures after Nick tricks Oliver into freeing them and one is encountered by Connor, Abby, Jenny and Caroline; they use it to kill two of Oliver's armed men by provoking it to move forwards, trampling the two men to death. Although both of them return to the prison after being lured there along with the other creatures by Nick, Helen and Stephen, they almost certainly played no part whatsoever in Stephen's subsequent death as they were established as non-aggressive animals. It is assumed that after killing Stephen, the more aggressive creatures then turned on and killed each other, presumably killing the two Scutosaurus in the process. These fearsome-looking animals were in fact inoffensive herbivores, which were well adapted to the dry conditions which covered much of Pangaea at that time.

However after the Qamishli event in 2004, a riot between the local football team (Kurdish) and fans of the opposing team (Sunni Arab), Kurdish people and parties demonstrated en masse and public actions increased significantly. The willingness of the Kurdish political parties and the Kurds involved in the 2004 uprising to publicly confront the state, shows a gradual shift of the Kurdish people to become more visible and to be more involved in actions directed against the regime. After the 2004 events, political parties like Yekîtî and the PYD started to politice the ethnicity of the Kurds by claiming that the Syrian government repressed the Kurds throughout history because of their ethnicity, which prompted the Kurds to act in a more united way. Nevertheless, until the Syrian uprising in 2011, requiring the Kurdish political parties to come to some form of unity, the parties were deeply divided..This division was fueled by Assad who posed the Kurdish riots as “a foreign Kurdish conspiracy”.
