In Scandinavia, there existed, for example, the famous race of she-werewolves known with a name of Maras, women who took on the appearance of the night looking for huge half- human and half-wolf monsters. The artwork was created by Kristian "Necrolord" Wåhlin, a friend of the band at the time and who lived in the same city. Karlén later purchased the original painting from Wåhlin, and is therefore one of only three he has ever agreed to sell, along with Tiamat's albums "Wildhoney" and "Clouds". According to guitarist Anders Brolycke, > "Nisse had this vision about this special place out there for him, as he > felt he didn't belong to this world and Kristian perfectly reproduced it for > him." This will explain then, why, when you look closely, you realise there > are no lights emanating from this ominous looking castle, hidden in some > god-forsaken land.

The goblin went to tell the student, but he saw a beautiful, marvelous tree of light in the student's room, the most splendid thing he had ever seen. He kept going back to watch the tree of light through the peephole, but could not stay there, for the grocer gave him jam and butter. Still, he decided to divide his time between the grocer and the student, because the student provided no Christmas porridge ().

"Jag skiter" is a song written and recorded by Magnus Uggla for the album Va ska man ta livet av sig för när man ändå inte får höra snacket efteråt in 1977. The song lyrics encourage not to just listen to what other people think about someone, and also tackles the adult society's requests from the adult world. The song caused controversy, though Magnus Uggla himself said he didn't understand why, since the song was written in a humorist way, based on a joke he'd read in a Nisse Strix issue, ("de säger att jag skiter i allt, men det skiter jag i!" Translation: They say I don't give a damn about anything, but I don't give a damn about that).
Johan Thomas Lundbye: Nisse (1842) In 1817, the art historian and writer Just Mathias Thiele began to undertake cataloguing work on a voluntary basis at the Royal Library in Copenhagen where he compiled a short work titled Prøver af danske Folkesagn (Samples of Danish Folktales). This was to lead to far more significant research, inspired partly by the fairy tale collections of the Brothers Grimm and partly by Denmark's growing interest in Romanticism. He travelled around the country, recording and writing up legends, attracting the support of influential figures such as the literary historian Rasmus Nyerup, who wrote a foreword emphasizing the multifaceted significance of the enterprise. His four-volume collection of Danish Folktales (Danske Folkesagn) was published between 1819 and 1823.

Julehjerter or Yule hearts In Denmark, Santa Claus is known as Julemanden (literally "the Yule Man") and is said to arrive on a sleigh drawn by reindeer, with presents for the children. He is assisted with his Yuletide chores by elves known as julenisser (or simply nisser), who are traditionally believed to live in attics, barns or similar places. In some traditions, to maintain the favor and protection of these nisser, children leave out saucers of milk or rice pudding or other treats for them on the afternoon on the 24th, and are delighted to find the food gone on Yule morning. Danish homes are decorated with kravlenisser (climbing nisse), which are cardboard cutouts of nisser which can be attached to paintings and bookshelves.

Folklore of Yorkshire, The History Press, 2013 The householder had to be careful in dealing with a hob, in particular one must not be given a gift of clothing, as this would be resented and cause a helpful hob to leave immediately; this was said to have happened at Hart Hall in Yorkshire where a well-meaning family left a small suit of clothes for their hob, only to see it walk out in disgust, never to return.Terence W. Whitaker Yorkshire's Ghosts and Legends Granada Publishing 1983 As well as the brownie, another cognate exists in the Scandinavian nisse or tomte; all of which are thought to be derived from the household gods of olden times, known in England as the cofgodas (Old English for "house-gods") of which the brownie and hob are indeed a survival."Cove-Gods," An Other Dictionary.

Eventually some bands such as Crass in the United Kingdom began to more seriously integrate an anarcho- communist political ideology into their music and associated anarcho-punk subculture. This spread to the United States and had a strong influence on the Minneapolis hardcore scene. Some of the people involved in this scene created a skinhead street gang, inspired by Nick Knight's book Skinhead, known as the Minneapolis Baldies which was formed in 1986 and in the early years it included people such as Kieran Knutson, Brandon J. Sanford, Martin D. O'Connor, Larry Rivers, Jason "Gator" Nevilles (a Native American), Jon Gilbertsen, Mic Crenshaw (an African American), Nisse Ulven, Megan Cook, Maggie Mulloy, Chris Gunderson, Erik Sundquist, Andy Grahn, Rhonda Schaffer and others. The Baldies, who regarded themselves as on the left and anti- racist skinheads, were frequently engaged in political violence with rival far-right skinheads in Uptown.
Contrary to the guilds, clubs do not have taxes. Characters can join any number of clubs as long as they fill the requirements each has (for example, the "Dancers of the Veil", the "Nisse Ohtar" and the "Ladies Club" require the character to be female, the "Mummers of Sybarus" and the "Gentlemen Club" to be male, the "Rich Men Club" to pay a determined amount of money upon joining, the "Prestigious Knights Club" to be good aligned, the "Wise People" to be over 100 days old, the "Equestrians of Bree" to rent a horse, the "Ancients" to have belonged to the Mystics, an old and already removed guild from the game, the "Beggars" to be a relatively inexperienced character, the "Shields of Minas Morgul" to be evil aligned and support the Minas Morgul cause, and the "Old Fogeys" to be hobbit, dwarf or human). Some clubs have free entrance, like the "Storytellers". Clubs increase the amount of "emotes" and actions the character can display.
In 1881, the Swedish magazine published Viktor Rydberg's poem "Tomten", where the tomte is alone awake in the cold Christmas night, pondering the mysteries of life and death. This poem featured the first painting by Jenny Nyström of this traditional Swedish mythical character which she turned into the white- bearded, red-capped friendly figure associated with Christmas ever since. Shortly afterwards, and obviously influenced by the emerging Father Christmas traditions as well as the new Danish tradition, a variant of the nisse/tomte, called the in Sweden and in Norway, started bringing the Christmas presents in Sweden and Norway, instead of the traditional (Yule Goat). Gradually, commercialism has made him look more and more like the American Santa Claus, but the Swedish , the Norwegian , the Danish and the Finnish (in Finland he is still called the Yule Goat, although his animal features have disappeared) still has features and traditions that are rooted in the local culture.
