The presence of this plant is a problem because its dense growth covers wide areas, inhibiting the growth of native species of aquatic macrophytes.

The naiad of the desert whitetail feeds on many aquatic insects, including mosquito larvae, other aquatic fly larvae, mayfly larvae, and freshwater shrimp. It also eats small fish and tadpoles.

The Action of 16 October 1799 was a minor naval engagement during the French Revolutionary Wars between a squadron of British Royal Navy frigates and two frigates of the Spanish Navy close to the Spanish naval port of Vigo in Galicia. The Spanish ships were a treasure convoy, carrying silver specie and luxury trade goods across the Atlantic Ocean from the colonies of New Spain to Spain. Again on 2 September, she snuffed out the fire of a Confederate battery near Rowe's Landing, Louisiana. The constant patrol of the rivers by Naiad and her sister "tinclads" helped the Union to maintain open communications and supply lines in the West while preventing the South from mustering her resources to oppose Generals Sherman and Grant.

In Greek mythology, Cleocharia (; Kleokhareia) was a Naiad, a river nymph, and queen consort. She was married to the King Lelex of Laconia. Cleocharia was the ancestress of the Spartan royal family and gave birth to two children: Myles and Polycaon. Her son, Myles, had a son named Eurotas (presumably named after his great-grandfather).

In places like Lerna their waters' ritual cleansings were credited with magical medical properties. Animals were ritually drowned there.

Fish species in Kindrum Lough include brown trout, Arctic char, three-spined stickleback and the critically endangered European eel. Two rare plant species have been recorded from the lake: slender naiad (Najas flexilis) and a stonewort, Nitella spanioclema. The latter species is considered endemic to County Donegal. Kindrum Lough is part of the Kindrum Lough Special Area of Conservation.

Drinking from it was considered to be a source of poetic inspiration.

For 46 years Naiad and Walter Einsel created elaborate Valentines for one another. This project was the catalyst for a large portion of her work. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo the larvae feed on Sarcocephalus latifolius, Crossopteryx febrifuga and Dacryodes edulis. In Greek mythology Alcinoe was the daughter of Polybus of Corinth. Alcinoe was also the name of a naiad, daughter of Oceanus and Tethys.

UKDMC operated multiple dark matter detectors and developed techniques for WIMP searches in crystals and xenon. In 1996 they published limits that were obtained using room temperature crystals. NAIAD was an array of NaI(Tl) crystals that ran 2001-2003, collecting 44.9 kg×years of exposure, setting spin-independent and spin-dependent limits on WIMPs. After editing The Ladder magazine, published by the lesbian civil rights group Daughters of Bilitis, she launched a lesbian book- publishing company Naiad Press, which achieved publicity through its controversial volume Lesbian Nuns: Breaking Silence. She built a major collection of lesbian literature, catalogued with detailed indexing of topics.

All the sculptures and decorations of the stern were repeated twice in a mirror fashion. An oval cartouche with the name of the ship was positioned in the center of the top part. The cartouche was framed by palm branches and flanked by two sitting glories blowing the trumpets. A naiad further to the ship edge was giving a laurel wreath to each glory.

Air pollution has an adverse effect on the Red Tornado-Tornado Champion, driving him half-mad and into conflict with Naiad against Firestorm and the Swamp Thing in "The Elemental War". Firestorm calms them both, and makes a new body shell for Red Tornado. The new body is imperfect, and he begins to malfunction. His humanity is almost lost as he looks increasingly damaged, dirty and defective.

During the 19th century, a drainage canal was dug, connecting Loch of Craiglush with Lowes, causing the water levels of the two lochs to equalise. The Lunan Burn now flows through this canal. The reserve land was purchased by the Scottish Wildlife Trust in 1969, due to the loch being the largest mesotrophic loch in the area, and the presence of the rare pondweed Slender Naiad.

Naiad Press, followed, which published the seminal lesbian romance novel Curious Wine by Katherine V. Forrest and many other books. The press closed in 2003 after 31 years.

Lord was born on 13 September 1877 in Bolton, Lancashire, England. He began his training at sea when he was thirteen, aboard the barque Naiad, in March 1891. It is a federally listed endangered species of the United States. This mussel is yellow-green in color with interrupted green rays on the shell.

Lampsilis virescens, the Alabama lamp naiad, Alabama lamp pearly mussel or Alabama lampmussel, is a species of freshwater mussel, an aquatic bivalve mollusk in the family Unionidae, the river mussels. This species is endemic to the United States. This river mussel is currently limited to the Paint Rock River drainage in northeastern Alabama. This mussel grows up to 6 centimeters long and is straw-colored or greenish and smooth and shiny.

In Greek mythology, Corycia (Ancient Greek: Κωρύκια Korykia) or Corycis (Kôrukis), was a naiad who lived on Mount Parnassus in Phocis. Her father was the local river-god Kephisos or Pleistos of northern Boeotia. With Apollo, she became the mother of Lycoreus (Lyrcorus) who gave his name to the city Lycoreia. Corycia was one of the nymphs of the springs of the Corycian Cave which was named after her.

Einsel was born Naiad June Giblan in Philadelphia, PA in 1927. Her father owned a grocery store, where she would draw on the brown wrapping paper. She attended the High School of Music and Art in New York City, going on to attend, and graduate from Pratt Institute in 1947. Sneaky Sneaky is a stealth video game for iOS and Microsoft Windows. The PC version of the game was released by Naiad Entertainment on November 12, 2014, and the mobile version was released on December 9. The game relies heavily on stealth, so the player must avoid enemies in order to pass some levels, although normal combat can also be used. The game follows the adventures of the player character Sneaky, a thief.

As an adult it feeds on orb-weaver spiders in the forest understory, which it plucks from their webs. Both Elizabeth Reef and Middleton Reef have been the site of numerous shipwrecks. Since the Voyager 2 flyby, the Neptune system has been extensively studied from ground-based observatories and the Hubble Space Telescope as well. In 2002–03 the Keck telescope observed the system using adaptive optics and detected easily the largest four inner satellites. Thalassa was found with some image processing, but Naiad was not located. Hubble has the ability to detect all the known satellites and possible new satellites even dimmer than those found by Voyager 2.

Her twenty-year relationship with Helen Bennett ended when Grier fell in love with librarian Donna McBride. Lilaea (minor planet designation: 213 Lilaea) is a large main belt asteroid. It was discovered by German-American astronomer C. H. F. Peters on February 16, 1880, in Clinton, New York and was named after Lilaea, a Naiad in Greek mythology. Photometric observations of this asteroid in 1986 gave a light curve with a period of 8.045 ± 0.008 hours and a brightness variation of 0.20 ± 0.01 in magnitude. The curve is asymmetrical with two distinct minima.

A god, in answer to her prayer, merged their two forms into one and transformed them into an androgynous form.The seer Tiresias had experienced life as a man and as a woman, but not the two at the same time: Hermaphroditus is unique in Greek myth.

In 1807, under Captain William Lechmere, she was part of the Channel Fleet. From 1808 to 1809, she was under Captain G. B. Salt, serving as the flagship of Rear-Admiral Thomas Sotheby, off Ushant. On 9 November Dreadnought, , Christian VII, Milford, Naiad, Unicorn, and the hired armed cutters Nimrod and Adrian were all in sight when the Ballahoo class schooner captured the French brig Modeste. On 7 September 1810 Snapper spotted a ship among the rocks on the west side of Ushant.

Dispatch captured one, No. 371, armed like the two already captured, but with a crew of 22. Hawkins thought it too dangerous to try to send the three gun- vessels to England so he sank them after having removed the guns. At daylight 27 November 1804 while was off Brest, she saw some small vessels open musket fire on boats belonging to that were chasing them. (Aigle had two seamen wounded, one dangerously.) Naiad gave chase and captured French gun-vessels Nos.

The hired armed cutter Earl St Vincent shared in the capture. On the night of 16 May 1801, boats from Naiad and , under the direction of Naiads First lieutenant, entered the port of Marín, Pontevedra, in Galicia in north-west Spain. There they captured the Spanish corvette Alcudia and destroyed the armed packet Raposo, both under the protection of a battery of five 24-pounders. Alcudia, commanded by Don Jean Antonio Barbuto, was moored stem and stern close to the fort.

Naiads captain had a monument erected for them in the Protestant Cemetery in Rome. In March 1826 Spencer and Naiad conducted a mission to Ibrahim Pasha, the general in command of the Ottoman forces besieging Missolonghi on the Gulf of Patras. (This was during the Third Siege of Missolonghi.) Spencer informed the Admiralty that the Ottoman forces had captured the town of Anatolica and Fort Vassiladi, and that Missolonghi would probably fall within a week. The town fell on 10 April.

Juturna was an ancient Latin deity of fountains,J E Sandys, A Dictionary of Classical Antiquities (London 1892) p. 340, who in some myths was turned by Jupiter into a water nymph – a Naiad – and given by him a sacred well in Lavinium, Latium,J E Sandys, A Dictionary of Classical Antiquities (London 1892) p. 340 as well as another one near the temple to Vesta in the Forum Romanum. The pool next to the second well was called Lacus Juturnae.

As Master of the King's Horses, he sits on a Spanish jennet (a breed he introduced to Britain), lifting a baton as his horse rears on command. Beneath him, the sea god Neptune and a naiad adorned with pearls indicate the duke's dominion over the sea. Overhead, a winged allegory of Fame signals victory (which nevertheless evaded the commander in real life) with trumpet in hand. Privately Rubens noted Buckingham's "arrogance and caprice" and predicted that he was "heading for the precipice".

Epioblasma turgidula, the turgid blossom pearly mussel, turgid riffle shell, turgid-blossom naiad or turgid blossom, was a species of freshwater mussel, a mollusk in the family Unionidae. It is now extinct. This species was native to the United States, where it was found in the drainage of the Cumberland River, Tennessee River, and several rivers in the Ozark Mountains. Its natural habitat was riffles and shoals of large rivers, which have now largely been destroyed by dams construction and dredging.

His sire, Persian Bold was a successful racehorse who won the Richmond Stakes in 1977. He went on to be a "good" stallion, getting important winners such as Kooyonga, Bold Pilot, Persian Heights, Falcon Flight (Prix Hocquart) and Bold Russian (Celebration Mile). In 1973, Naiad Press was founded by Barbara Grier which concentrated mainly on lesbian-themed books.

A Nymph by a Stream is an oil painting of 1869–70 by Pierre-Auguste Renoir which is held in the collection of the National Gallery, London. The painting portrays Renoir's 21-year-old model and lover, Lise Tréhot, who featured in over twenty of his paintings during the years 1866 to 1872. Unusually, the painting is a combination of a classical depiction of a naiad or river nymph reclining by a stream and the recognisable portrait of an actual person.

The fairy queen shrine at Fablehaven is located in a beautiful park, on an island in the middle of a naiad pond. Unworthy visitors are instantly obliterated, as goes the story of the caretaker who was turned into dandelion fluff. Kendra, however, must visit the Fairy Queen for help to save her family, and Fablehaven from Muriel and Bahumat. Kendra would end up walking on her island and living and then the Fairy Queen would help her summon the fairies to war and save Fablehaven.

In Greek mythology, Bucolion (Ancient Greek: Βουκολίωνας) or Boucolides was the eldest, but illegitimate, son of the Trojan king Laomedon and the nymph Calybe. His wife was the naiad Abarbarea, and they had at least two sons, Aesepus and Pedasus. Aesepus and Pedasus participated in the Trojan War, and the family is mentioned in the Iliad, Book VI. According to Tzetzes, Bucolion and Abarbarea were the parents of the Trojan hero Euphorbus who was otherwise known as the son of Panthous and Phrontis.John Tzetzes.

Jason Rusch and Martin Stein meet Shilo Norman, and are attacked in succession by members of the New Gods such as Orion of New Genesis, Granny Goodness's Female Furies, and a greatly augmented Kalibak of Apokolips. Shilo informs Stein and Rusch that one-quarter of the Life Equation is hidden within the Firestorm Matrix. The others are held by Earth's other three Elementals (possibly the Red Tornado, Naiad, and the Swamp Thing). Darkseid fears that the Life Equation might challenge him and his Anti-Life Equation.

In 1966, Naiad became the leader of the Northern Ireland Squadron and subsequently deployed to the Far East and South America. In June 1966 she was present at Kieler Woche (Kiel Week, in West Germany) and the Duke of Edinburgh held a state dinner on board in honour of West German President Heinrich Lubke. The Black Crook was followed by The White Fawn (1868), Le Barbe Blue (1868) and Evangeline (1874). An apparently similar show from six years earlier, The Seven Sisters (1860), which also had an unusually long run of 253 performances, is now lost and forgotten. It also included special effects and scene changes. Gänzl gives The Naiad Queen (1841) as an example of an earlier musical, concluding that it was only The Black Crook's long run that gave it a reputation as the "first" musical.

The first three names come from "liberty, equality, fraternity", the motto of the French Revolution and Republic. The terminology was suggested by their original discoverers, who had found them during stellar occultations in 1984 and 1985. Four small Neptunian moons have orbits inside the ring system: Naiad and Thalassa orbit in the gap between the Galle and Le Verrier rings; Despina is just inward of the Le Verrier ring; and Galatea lies slightly inward of the Adams ring, embedded in an unnamed faint, narrow ringlet.

The convoy came under heavy German air attack on 14 February, and the merchant ship Clan Chattan was scuttled.

In October 1799, while patrolling off Cape Finisterre, Pierrepont spotted and chased two Spanish ships, and although Naiad was unable to catch either one, other patrolling frigates, acting under Pierrepont's direction, were able to bring the Spanish force to battle and defeat it at the Action of 16 October 1799. On board was found a cargo of more than two million silver dollars, worth at least £618,040 (the equivalent of £ as of ). Pierrepont's share of this wealth was £40,730,the equivalent of £ as of .

The probe discovered auroras, but much weaker than those on Earth or other planets. The radio instruments on board found that Neptune's day lasts 16 hours and 6.7 minutes. Neptune's rings had been observed from Earth many years prior to Voyager 2 visit, but the close inspection revealed that the ring systems were full circle and intact, and a total of four rings were counted. Voyager 2 discovered six new small moons orbiting Neptune's equatorial plane, and they were named Naiad, Thalassa, Despina, Galatea, Larissa and Proteus.

Captive American flamingos feeding The name "flamingo" comes from Portuguese or Spanish flamengo, "flame-colored", in turn coming from Provençal flamenc from flama "flame" and Germanic-like suffix -ing, with a possible influence of the Spanish ethnonym flamenco "Fleming" or "Flemish". The generic name Phoenicopterus (from phoinikopteros), literally means "blood red- feathered" has a similar etymology to the common name; other genera include Phoeniconaias, which means "crimson/red water nymph (or naiad)", and Phoenicoparrus, which means "crimson/red bird (though, an unknown bird of omen)".

So at the Swamp Thing's request he burns the blighted plant life he created in an African valley. Later writers and editors have introduced a radioactive aspect of Captain Atom's physical makeup. This seems to contradict the quantum nature of Atom's powers as originally introduced, as he previously did not emit radiation when his skin was cut open. Towards the end of his series' run, it was speculated that Captain Atom is an Elemental (Quantum Elemental) along with Swamp Thing (Earth), Red Tornado (Air), Firestorm (Fire), and Naiad (Water). In addition to his superhuman abilities, Nathaniel Adam is also an experienced United States Air Force pilot.

Further works were created in his adopted home Munich, where he joined the Association of Munich Watercolor Artists, and from 1910 in his studio in Altfreimann near Munich. Some genre pictures with idyllic content also fall into this creative period, some of which, as commissioned works, reflect the taste of the time. His main works, which art historians consider to be the last offshoots of Munich Romanticism, include: a. On 24 October the survivors decided to try to repair the ship's rudder and return to Cadiz, as the weather was improving, but an hour later they were pursued by Leviathan, which also picked up the marines and some Spanish survivors of the storm. On 28 October the ship ran aground on the Arenas Gordas coast near Huelva, between Torre de la Higuera and Torre del Asperillo, leaving it lying on its side. On 31 October she was destroyed by the guns of the frigate Naiad to avoid her being reused or refloated.

Having attended the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Haddacks joined the Royal Navy in 1964 and specialised in navigation. He commanded successively the frigates HMS Cleopatra and HMS Naiad. He went on to be Assistant Director of Navy Plans in the Ministry of Defence and was later given command of the assault ship HMS Intrepid. He became Senior Naval Officer Middle East and commander of UK maritime forces during Operation Desert Shield in 1990, Assistant Chief of Staff Policy and Requirements Division at SHAPE in 1994 and UK Military Representative to NATO in 1997.

Her attempted rape of Hermaphroditus places her as the only nymph rapist in the Greek mythological canon (though see also Dercetis). In Ovid's Metamorphoses, she becomes one with Hermaphroditus and Hermaphroditus curses the fountain to have the same effect on others.

The Y.A.8 design was used as the basis for the B-88 Y.B.1 which first flew on 19 July 1950. The B-88 had an Armstrong Siddeley Double Mamba engine similar in design to the original Naiad that was to be fitted to the Y.A.5. Development of this design was protracted and the FAA lost interest in favour of the promising Fairey Gannet, which had already flown with the Double Mamba and carried out landing trials, and which was to enter operational service fulfilling the original specification.

In the B-88, an engine plant was based on the Armstrong Siddeley Mamba gas turbine, the Double Mamba - also known as the "Twin Mamba" - driving two four- blade contra-rotating propellers through a common gearbox. The ASMD.1 engine used on the B-88 was rated at 2,950 hp (2,200 kW).

In 1826, German writer August Kopisch and his friend Ernst Fries, a German painter, visited the cave and recorded their visit in the Kopisch's Entdeckung der blauen Grotte auf der Insel Capri in 1838. In 1842 Danish choreographer August Bournonville set the second act of his ballet Napoli in the Blue Grotto. In this fantastic tale, Golfo, the demon who rules the Blue Grotto, transforms the ballet's heroine, Teresina, into a Naiad. Mark Twain visited the Blue Grotto in 1869 and recorded his thoughts in his book The Innocents Abroad.

5, p.535. She was back in Plymouth for two days at the end of August. At the end of October a violent gale almost wrecked Naiad near the Île de Ré. She sat for two days on shore under the guns of a French battery, which, much to the mystification of her captain and crew, did not fire on them. On the second day the French commander sent boats with spare cables and anchors and informed Wilkinson that England had signed the preliminaries of a peace treaty with France.

Kimberley and Kingston arrived at Alexandria with the Breconshire on 8 December. On 15 December Kimberley joined the cruisers HMS Carlisle, Euryalus and Naiad and the destroyers Hasty, Havock, Jervis, Kingston, Kipling, Decoy and Nizam in forming Force C, which was assigned to escort the Breconshire to Malta. By 16 December unconfirmed reports of Italian battle group escorting a supply convoy to Benghazi had reached the British force. The force was sighted on 17 December, and the Breconshire was detached from Force C, escorted by Decoy and Havock.

Castalia (; Ancient Greek: Κασταλία), in Greek mythology, was a naiad-nymph, a daughter of Achelous who inhabited the Castalian spring in Delphi. In older traditions, Castalian spring already existed by the time Apollo came to Delphi searching for Python.Homer, Hymn to Apollo According to some, the water was a gift to Castalia from the river Cephisus. Latin poet Lactantius Placidus in his commentary on Statius' Thebaid tells that to escape the amorous advances of Apollo, Castalia transformed herself into a fountain at Delphi, at the base of Mount Parnassos, or at Mount Helicon.

In 1963 Toscano made her debut at the San Francisco Opera as Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann. She returned their twice more during her career, again as Olympia in 1967 and as Gilda in Rigoletto in 1970. In 1964 she made her debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Frasquita in Carmen. She appeared in several more productions with the company through 1966, playing such roles as the Celestial Voice in Aida, the first Genii in The Magic Flute, and the Naiad in Ariadne auf Naxos.

With the end of the Peace of Amiens in 1803 Dundas returned to sea in 1804 in command of the 36-gun fifth rate . He was initially assigned to patrol off the west coast of Spain and in the English Channel, where he captured several prizes. In late 1804 he captured a Spanish ship worth over 200,000 dollars, and also helped in the capture of the privateers Fanny and Superb. The Naiad was also involved in an engagement in the Bay of Gibraltar with a flotilla of Spanish gunboats.

The naiad of the dot-tailed whiteface is very small with a length of 9/16 to 3/4 inch (14–19 mm). Its abdomen is rounded, giving it a short, stocky appearance known as the sprawler form. Its brown in color and marked with either three dark stripes or two rows of dark spots running the length of the underside of the abdomen. There are needle-shaped hooks on the top of abdominal segments three through eight, and a single, rear-facing spine on each side of abdominal segments eight and nine.

When he grew up, Erichthonius drove out Amphictyon, who had usurped the throne from Cranaus twelve years earlier, and became king of Athens. He married Praxithea, a naiad, and had a son, Pandion I. During this time, Athena frequently protected him. He founded the Panathenaic Festival in the honor of Athena, and set up a wooden statue of her on the Acropolis. According to the Parian Chronicle, he taught his people to yoke horses and use them to pull chariots, to smelt silver, and to till the earth with a plough.

In October 2010 a faster Excitor III was introduced. The 12.5m Naiad rigid hull inflatable vessel carried up to 35 passengers at up to 50 knots, powered by 4 x 300 hp V8 engines. Built by Whangarei-based Circa Marine, and specifically designed for conditions in the Bay of Islands, the new Excitor featured straddle seats, an ultra modern low wake hull design and a retractable set of stairs built into the bow to allow her to service any beach in the Bay of Islands.A new era of adrenalin, fun and adventure.

Many ducks are on the water, some large carp and occasional turtles. On the shores of Lake Opeka, Lake Park is a park which offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for all age groups, administered by the Des Plaines Park District. 460 man-hours were spent removing submerged and surface vegetation from the lake, to prevent its becoming a threat to aquatic life (due to its using up the oxygen supply when decomposing). The vegetation consisted of the native slender naiad (Najas flexilis), and an excessive amount of filamentous algae.

In GREEK mythology, Ismenis was a Naiad nymph, one of the daughters of the Boeotian river god Ismenus: Ismenis is a patronymic rather than a given name. In Statius' Thebaid, Ismenis was the mother, by Pan, of Crenaeus, a defender of Thebes in the war of the Seven against Thebes. When Crenaeus was killed by Hippomedon whom he had challenged to single combat, Ismenis searched for his body which was carried away by the flow of River Ismenus, and, upon finding it, lamented her son's fate.Statius, Thebaid, 9.

Gambier continued to Plymouth, collected four ships of the line anchored there, and immediately sailed back into the Bay of Biscay, joining Stopford on 7 March to form a fleet of 13 ships, later reduced to 11 after Defiance and Triumph were detached.James, p. 99 Shortly after departing Stopford's squadron off the Basque Roads, Naiad had sighted three sail approaching from the north at 07:00 on 24 February. These were Italienne, Calypso and Cybèle; a French frigate squadron sent from Lorient by Troude, whose ships of the line had been delayed by unfavourable tides.

In Turkish mythology, Chesma İyasi (Turkish: Çeşme İyesi or Bulak İyesi sometimes Pınar İyesi; Azerbaijanese: Bulaq İyesi, Tatar: Çişmä İyäsi) was a cat-shaped spirit who lurked in wells or fountains and tempted youths to their deaths.Türk Söylence Sözlüğü (Turkish Mythology Dictionary), Deniz Karakurt, (OTRS: CC BY-SA 3.0) As a female spirit that resides in water, she can be seen as a type of naiad. Chesma İyasi were seen as dangerous due to their jealous tendencies. They were said to assume many different shapes, including that of a human, fish or fairy.

She destroys the drilling rig but oil and other chemicals which spill into the waters poison her, and drive her mad. In December 1805 he was sent out to the West Indies, where, during the greater part of 1806, he was engaged in watching and sending intelligence of the French squadron under Willaumez, so that it was not till his return to England in the spring of 1807 that he received his commission as post-captain, dated 22 January 1806. In 1809 he served as a volunteer on board the Superb, bearing the flag of Sir Richard Goodwin Keats, in the expedition to the Scheldt, where his conduct, especially in covering the evacuation of Walcheren, was highly commended by Sir Richard John Strachan, the commander- in-chief, and Commodore Owen, in actual command of the operations. In the summer of 1811 Carteret was appointed to the Naiad, a 46-gun frigate, in which on 20 September he was off Boulogne when a division of the French flotilla got under way and stood along the coast, under the eyes of Napoleon I, who, on the next day, witnessed a detachment of this division cut off, brought to action, and captured by the Naiad, with three gun brigs in company. The rest of the division escaped under the guns of the batteries which lined the coast.

From this distance, the Sun's angular diameter is reduced to one and a quarter arcminutes across. Here are the angular diameters of the moons that are large enough to fully eclipse the Sun: Naiad, 7–13'; Thalassa, 8–14'; Despina, 14–22'; Galatea, 13–18'; Larissa, 10–14'; Proteus, 13–16'; Triton, 26–28'. Just because the moons are large enough to fully eclipse the Sun does not necessarily mean that they will do so. Eclipses of the Sun from Neptune are rare due to the planet's long orbital period and large axial tilt of 28 degrees.

Eos pursues the reluctant Tithonus, who holds a lyre, on an Attic oinochoe of the Achilles Painter, circa 470–460 BC (Louvre). In Greek mythology, Tithonus ( or ; ) was the lover of Eos, Goddess of the Dawn. He was a prince of Troy, the son of King Laomedon by the Naiad Strymo (Στρυμώ). The mythology reflected by the fifth-century vase-painters of Athens envisaged Tithonus as a rhapsode, as attested by the lyre in his hand, on an oinochoe (wine jug) of the Achilles Painter, circa 470–460 BC. An asteroid (6998) has been named after Tithonus.

Another danger was wæterælfádl, "water-elf disease", perhaps meaning dropsy, while a third condition was ælfsogoða, "elf-pain", glossed by Shippey as "lunacy". All the same, an Icelandic woman could be frið sem álfkona, "fair as an elf-woman", while the Anglo-Saxons might call a very fair woman ælfscýne, "elf-beautiful". Some aspects can readily be reconciled, Shippey writes, since "Beauty is itself dangerous". But there is more: Tolkien brought in the Old English usage of descriptions like wuduælfen "wood-elf, dryad", wæterælfen "water-elf", and sǣælfen "sea-elf, naiad", giving his elves strong links with wild nature.

Kelsey joined the Royal Navy in September 1911 and served in the First World War. Promoted to captain on 31 December 1936, Kelsey became Deputy Director of Personal Services at the Admiralty in September 1937. He served in the Second World War becoming commanding officer of the cruiser HMS Naiad in April 1940, Commodore-in-Charge, Freetown in April 1942 and commanding officer of the battleship HMS Warspite in March 1944. As captain of HMS Warspite he led the bombardment squadron during Operation Infatuate, an Anglo-Canadian operation to open the port of Antwerp to shipping and relieve logistical constraints.

Rear-Admiral William Pierrepont (March 1766 - 7 August 1813) was a Royal Navy officer of the late eighteenth century who is best known for his service in the French Revolutionary Wars as a commander of the frigate HMS Naiad, in which he commanded the British squadron at the Action of 16 October 1799 off Vigo, in which one of the largest hauls of prize money ever captured was distributed following the seizure of a Spanish treasure convoy. Pierrepont's career was later hindered by poor health, although he served in large warships though much of the Napoleonic Wars.

Jeannette Howard Foster (November 3, 1895 - July 26, 1981) was an American librarian, professor, poet, and researcher in the field of lesbian literature. She pioneered the study of popular fiction and ephemera in order to excavate both overt and covert lesbian themes. Her years of pioneering data collection culminated in her 1956 study Sex Variant Women in Literature, which has become a seminal resource in LGBT studies. Initially self-published by Foster via Vantage Press, it was photoduplicated and reissued in 1975 by Diana Press and reissued in 1985 by Naiad Press with updating additions and commentary by Barbara Grier.

Several collections report a ' in one or another place in Brittany. Souvestre evokes one of these fairies, likened to a naiad, in a well in Vannes: this legend seems to have been quite popular in its day, and could have the same sources as the tale of the fairy of the well. It belongs to the theme of "spinners by the fountain" in the Aarne-Thompson classification. A story collected by Anatole Le Braz makes one of these fairies the personification of the plague: an old man from Plestin finds a ' who asks for his help in crossing a river.

It has the largest reed-bed in England and supports rare waterweeds such as the holly- leaved naiad and three rare species of stonewort. Amongst the rare insects is the Swallowtail butterfly, subspecies Papilio machaon brittanicus which feeds on milk-parsley (Peucedanum palustre), the Norfolk hawker Aeshna isosceles and Emperor dragonfly. In December, Naiad participated in the First Battle of Sirte against Italian naval forces. On 11 March 1942, she was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the Egyptian coast, and sank in just over twenty minutes. In the Delphic tradition, Thyia was also the naiad of a spring on Mount Parnassos in Phocis (central Greece), daughter of the river god Cephissus. Her shrine was the site for the gathering of the Thyiades (women who celebrated in the orgies of the god Dionysos). She was said to have been the first to sacrifice to Dionysus, and to celebrate orgies in his honour. Hence, the Attic women, who every year went to Mount Parnassus to celebrate the Dionysiac orgies with the Delphian Thyiades, received themselves the name of Thyades or Thyiades (synonymous with Maenads).

Naiad, Neptune's closest moon, is the exception, being inclined at 4.75° to Neptune's equator. The innermost satellites orbit within the planetary rings, well within the fluid Roche limit, and only the internal strength and friction of their materials prevents them from being torn apart by tidal forces. This means that, if a pebble were placed in the part of the satellite furthest away from the planet, the tidal force outward is stronger than the satellite's gravity planetward, so the pebble would fall upward. This is why photos of these satellites show them to be completely clean of pebbles, dust and rocks.

However, a set of goblins trick Seth into opening a window. Sergei Vikharev was born in Saint Petersburg and trained at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. He graduated in 1980 and joined the Mariinsky Ballet after winning a prize in Varna at the International Ballet Competition. In 1985, he won a prize at an international ballet competition in Moscow and was promoted to principal in 1986. His repertoire with the Mariinsky Ballet included leading roles in La Sylphide, Giselle, Napoli, The Naiad and the Fisherman, The Sleeping Beauty, the La Vivandière Pas de six, Paquita, Les Sylphides Petrushka, Carnaval and Symphony in C. In 2002, he became an Honoured Artist of Russia.

As many as 13 females may oviposit in a single large tree hole, laying up to 250 eggs each, but the numbers of naiads are reduced by cannibalism. Even when there is a high concentration of other prey, Megaloprepus naiads still kill each other until a density of one naiad per 1-2 liters of water is reached.Fincke, "Population Regulation", 118, 124. They are not territorial, but larger individuals displace smaller ones; their aggressive behavior includes raising and swinging the caudal lamellae and striking with the labium, the hinged, extensible lower "lip" that odonate naiads use to catch prey.

In a tree hole small enough to be effectively patrolled by a single naiad, the first species to hatch is likely to eat all newcomers, but in a large one Megaloprepus can escape long enough to outgrow and eventually eat an older resident. In the 1970s, more voices of American lesbians of color began to be heard, including works by Audre Lorde, Jewelle Gomez, Paula Gunn Allen Cherrie Moraga, and Gloria Anzaldua. In France, Monique Wittig published Les Guérillères, (The Women Warriors), which envisioned a lesbian-dominated world. Similarly, Joanna Russ's 1975 novel The Female Man contains an alternative universe inhabited solely by lesbians. The 1970s also saw the advent of feminist and LGBT publishing houses, such as Naiad Press, and literary magazines like Sinister Wisdom, and ConditionsBusia, Abena P. A. Theorizing Black Feminisms: The Visionary Pragmatism of Black Women, Routledge, 1993, , p. 225n.

In 1979, Bonney joined the Staatstheater Darmstadt, where she made her debut as Anna in The Merry Wives of Windsor. In the subsequent five years she made appearances in Germany and throughout Europe, notably at the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London and La Scala in Milan. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1987 in Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos in the role of Naiad and her Vienna State Opera debut the same year as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. Since then, she has appeared at the major opera houses of the world and at the Salzburg Festival, where she was Servilia in Mozart's La clemenza di Tito.

By the 1940s climbers reached the area and began naming the crags. Bill and Peg Stark, of Leavenworth, became frequent visitors who drew upon various mythologies to name features of the landscape. When they made their first visit in the fall of 1959, they were captivated by the golden splendor of the larch trees in the fall, the numerous lakes and tarns, and jagged peaks towering above. The name Lilaea appears for the first time in Homer's Iliad (in the Catalogue of Ships) as one of the nine Phocian towns which had participated at the Trojan War. Lilaea was named after the Naiad Lilaea, the daughter of the river-god Cephissus, since the city itself was situated close to the sources of the river. A sanctuary dedicated to Artemis and another one, dedicated to the deified river stood there in antiquity. The inhabitants of Lilaea believed that the water of Castalian spring in Delphi was a gift of Cephissus, so some days in the year they threw sweets in the river, thinking that they would surface in Castalia.

Caunus eventually came to Lycia, where he married the Naiad Pronoe and had by her a son Aegialus.

Ariadne auf Naxos at the Hamburg State Opera 2012: the thespians attempt to cheer up Ariadne Ariadne is shown abandoned by her former lover, Theseus, on the desert island of Naxos, with no company other than the nymphs Naiad, Dryad, and Echo. Ariadne bewails her fate, mourns her lost love, and longs for death. Zerbinetta and her four companions from the burlesque group enter and attempt to cheer Ariadne by singing and dancing, but without success. In a sustained and dazzling piece of coloratura singing, Zerbinetta tells the Princess to let bygones be bygones and insists that the simplest way to get over a broken heart is to find another man.

A one-letter code written in upper case identifies the planet such as J and S for Jupiter and Saturn, respectively (see list of one-letter abbreviations), and then a number identifies sequentially the observation. For example, Naiad, the innermost moon of Neptune, was at first designated "". Later, once its existence and orbit were confirmed, it received its full designation, "". On 17 December Vian's force rendezvoused with Force K from Malta, and a brief engagement took place with units of the Italian fleet.

Sparks was born in Bartholomew Buildings, Seward Street, Clerkenwell, London and joined the Royal Marines upon the outbreak of World War II. He volunteered for hazardous service as a way of avenging his brother Benny who had died on the cruiser HMS Naiad. During the night of 7 December 1942, ten Royal Marines set out in five canoes on Operation Frankton. They caused considerable damage to five ships, but six of the men were shot by the Germans and two drowned. Sparks and Major Herbert "Blondie" Hasler were pursued through France and Spain by the Germans for three months before they reached safety in Gibraltar.

Valerie Taylor (Velma Nacella Young 1913-1997) wrote eight lesbian themed novels from 1957-1964, poetry that was published in The Ladder, and several novels in the 1970s through Naiad Press. She became a gay activist, co-founding the Mattachine Society and the Lesbian Writers' Conference in Chicago in 1974. When the naiad is ready to metamorphose into an adult, it stops feeding and makes its way to the surface, generally at night. It remains stationary with its head out of the water, while its respiration system adapts to breathing air, then climbs up a reed or other emergent plant, and moults (ecdysis). Anchoring itself firmly in a vertical position with its claws, its skin begins to split at a weak spot behind the head. The adult dragonfly crawls out of its larval skin, the exuvia, arching backwards when all but the tip of its abdomen is free, to allow its exoskeleton to harden.

Meanwhile, all the tribes who live in the forest, the Ickri, Naiad, Wisp, Troggles and Tinklers, unite to send a group to search for the missing horse, Pegs. The adventures of the group demonstrate the dangers posed to the Various by the Gorji world, as humans are called by the tribes, and one of them, Lumst, is killed by a ferocious tomcat named Tojo. While Midge is accepted by the ickri Queen Ba-betts and her advisers as the savior of Pegs, despite the news she brings of her uncle's plan to sell the forest land. Meanwhile, an archer captain, Scurl, believes that she is herself a danger to the tribes and intends to kill her.

At some points, Despina's angular diameter rivals that of Ariel from Uranus and Ganymede from Jupiter. Here are the angular diameters for Neptune's moons (for comparison, Earth's moon measures on average 31′ for terrestrial observers): Naiad, 7–13′; Thalassa, 8–14′; Despina, 14–22′; Galatea, 13–18′; Larissa, 10–14′; Proteus, 12–16′; Triton, 26–28′. One evening, Cleveland Heep, who became the superintendent of a Philadelphia apartment complex after his family was murdered, discovers Story, a Narf (a naiad-like being) from the Blue World, in his building's pool, immediately rescuing her from an attack by a Scrunt, a grass-covered, wolf-like creature that hides by flattening its body against the turf. Story explains she is a Narf, here to find the Writer, the "vessel" who will be magically awakened when he meets her, and then write a book that will save humanity in the future. When Heep mentions the word Narf to tenant Young-Soon, she recognizes it from stories her mother, Mrs. Choi, then expands on for him.

She was captured by Muriel and Bahumat in the first book, and was unwillingly restored as a Naiad and returned to the pond by the fairy army by the end of the book. In the Second Book, Kendra goes to see if Lena will return, but the other Naiads take Lena away. In the Third Book, the appearance of Patton Burgess, by means of a powerful time-travel artifact, coaxes Lena from the pond, though it ultimately results in her death when they enter their final confrontation to save the preserve. Maddox Fisk Maddox Fisk, a grizzly looking mountain man, is one of Grandpa's friends and a fairy broker, which means that he catches and sells or trades fairies.

Najas minor, known as brittle naiad or brittle waternymph, is an annual aquatic plant, a submersed herb. It is native to Europe, Asia and North Africa from the Netherlands to Morocco east to Japan and the Philippines, including China, Siberia, Central Asia, Iran, Turkey, Ukraine, Germany, France Italy and a host of other countries. It is now introduced to North America and considered a weedy invasive species in the eastern half of the United States from Florida to Oklahoma to New Hampshire to Ontario to South Dakota.Biota of North America Project, Najas minor This plant prefers calm waters, such as ponds, reservoirs, and lakes, and is capable of growing in depths up to 4 meters.

Eggs laid inside plant tissues are usually shaped like grains of rice, while other eggs are the size of a pinhead, ellipsoidal, or nearly spherical. A clutch may have as many as 1500 eggs, and they take about a week to hatch into aquatic nymphs or naiads which moult between six and 15 times (depending on species) as they grow. Most of a dragonfly's life is spent as a nymph, beneath the water's surface.

Believing that Huxley wants Nik (Nick Stabile), they confront him and demand for their release; Huxley admits it is Ava he is truly after, due to her ownership of the "Weeping Naiad". Upon their escape, Nik and Ava make their way to Greece and end up on Cassadine Island, where they are discovered by Jason and Sam Morgan. When confronted to go back to Port Charles and joined by several of Nikolas' family members, Ava and the other guests on Cassadine Island are taken hostage by Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart). Ava is then held at gun point by Valentin, and in an attempt to save Ava's life, Nikolas is ultimately shot and falls out of a window.

Established in 2001, Bella Books acquired the Naiad Press backlist, including the majority of works by Jane Rule and all the works of Karin Kallmaker. Their catalog includes over 300 titles of lesbian romance, lesbian mystery and erotica. Other early publishers include Spinsters Ink (which has been sold a couple of times and now is part of the Bella Books organization), Rising Tide Press, Crossing Press, Onlywomen Press, Kitchen Table Press, and New Victoria. In many cases, these presses were operated by authors who also published with the publication house, such as Barbara Wilson at Seal Press, which became part of the mainstream company Avalon Publishing, and Joan Drury at Spinsters Ink.

Cyllene , also known as ', is a natural satellite of Jupiter. It was discovered by a team of astronomers from the University of Hawaii led by Scott S. Sheppard in 2003, receiving the temporary designation '.IAUC 8116: Satellites of Jupiter and Saturn 2003 April (discovery)MPEC 2003-G09: S/2003 J 13 2003 April (discovery and ephemeris) Cyllene is about 2 kilometres in diameter, and orbits Jupiter at an average distance of (23.4 million km) 23,396,000 km in 731.099 days (2.00 earth years), at an inclination of 140.149° to the ecliptic (139.543° to Jupiter's equator), in a retrograde direction and with an eccentricity of 0.4116. It was named in March 2005 after Cyllene, a naiad (stream nymph) or oread (mountain nymph) associated with Mount Cyllene, Greece.

Dundas remained in command of Naiad until 1808, serving in the blockade of Rochefort. Dundas went on to command the 64-gun , another Trafalgar veteran, and the 74-gun . He commissioned on 28 March 1822, and was stationed at Plymouth. During his career Dundas is said to have invented a type of inflammable ball, > ... applicable for besieging a town, and peculiar for its small weight, by > which means may be thrown to a great distance; and it takes fire on a very > curious plan: it spreads a flame on three distinct openings, which is so > strong, that the fire extends a full yard in length from the ball itself, > and is so powerful, that anything under, over, or near, cannot escape its > effects.

Ink for large ensemble, recorded by the Philharmonia Orchestra on the NMC label, was inspired by the poetry collection Bottled Air by Caleb Klaces (who also provided the text for Linea). Returning to school, Bannon completed her master's degree at Sacramento State University and her doctorate in linguistics at Stanford University. She was an English professor at Sacramento State and later became associate dean of the School of Arts and Sciences—later the College of Arts and Letters.. Ann Bannon's books began to fade away from publishing memory after initial publication, especially after Gold Medal Books went out of business. In 1975, however, Bannon was asked to include four of her books in Arno Press's library edition of Homosexuality: Lesbians and Gay Men in Society, History and Literature. Then, in 1983, Barbara Grier of the lesbian publishing company Naiad Press actively tracked Bannon down and reissued the books in new covers.

It forms the southeast entrance point for New Plymouth harbour and the northeast entrance point for Osogovo Bay. Naiad Lake is situated on the southwest side of the point and Pistiros Lake is centred 900 m east of it. The area was visited by 19th century sealers. The feature's name (meaning ‘Camp Point’) derives from an earlier Spanish form, ‘’Punta Campamento’’, given by Chilean researchers in 1971.

Penny Mickelbury (born 1948) is an American playwright and mystery novelist who worked as a print and television journalist for ten years before concentrating on fiction writing.
