Although sociopolitical engagement is uneven in his oeuvre, some see Arjona's more engaged works as placing him in the tradition of the Italian cantautori. In the mid-1970s, a singer-songwriter tradition called canto popular emerged in Uruguay. With the influence of Tropicalismo, Traditional Samba and Bossa Nova, MPB (Música popular brasileira), or Brazilian Popular Music, became highly singer-songwriter based. For years solo artists would dominate Brazilian popular music with romantic cynicism alla Jobim or subliminal anti-government messages alla Chico Buarque.

In 2005 came the fourth CD of the band, "4". Produced by Alexandre Kassin, who had also produced the last two albums, it showed a more introspective content and a more impactful approach to MPB. The record, however, would be considered "irregular" by the critics. Whether it was the acoustic guitar in "Sapato Novo" and bossa "Fez-se Mar" or the predominance of a nostalgic mood in the lyrics of Camelo and Amarante, "4" again divided the public: the band was in another new direction.

Terço II (1973) would see them moving from Psychedelic to heavier sounds, along the lines of King Crimson and Led Zeppelin.

Construção signaled Buarque's fundamental artistic maturation, both in terms of musical composition and lyrical style, showcasing and transcending his mastery of MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira/Popular Brazilian Music). In addition to its significant esthetic achievement, the album's implicit criticism of the ruling Brazilian military dictatorship was greeted by the regime's opponents as an important cultural and socio-political statement, released as it was during the dictatorship's most repressive period. Because Buarque couched his criticism in such melodic beauty and lyrical obliqueness, and because of its popularity, the regime—surprisingly—neither banned nor censored Construção.

Ben, who still performed at this time, was recognized by Time Out as an "aging maestro" representative of the "favela samba rock" contingent in the contemporary MPB scene. Samba rock's modernization has seen its incorporation into dance academy curriculum, gym classes, party productions, dance collectives, and other events.

In 2017 the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) began ordering street food vendors off the pavements and roadways of the capital. The impetus for the crack down was cleanliness, pedestrian safety, and the rights of shop owners and tenants whose shopfronts or driveways were blocked by the street stalls and vendors. Researchers at the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) claim that the policy "...has had an adverse effect on the character of [Bangkok]." They found that most customers of street vendors are low-income white-collar workers, students, and blue-collar workers.

Baião's reputation as rural music liked by lower-class people caused its avoidance by much of the urban upper class for much of the 20th century. Although previously not well known outside its native region, a conscious decision by 1960s MPB and Tropicália musicians to embrace and reference traditional and folk music saw a resurgence of baião rhythms. A key record in this revival was the 1967 album by Quarteto Novo. Despite the relatively small area of its greater popularity, a great variety of music is associated with baião, reflecting its status as traditional music and traditional dance in the Northeast.

Adult mountain pine beetle Climate change and the associated changing weather patterns occurring worldwide have a direct effect on biology, population ecology, and the population of eruptive insects, such as the mountain pine beetle (MPB). Prior to climatic and temperature changes, the mountain pine beetle predominately lived and attacked lodgepole and ponderosa pine trees at lower elevations, as the higher elevation Rocky Mountains and Cascades were too cold for their survival.
The song received a promotional video made with illustrations by Angeli himself, including depictions of himself, Titãs' members and the people mentioned in the lyrics. In order to write "Fala, Renata", Bellotto conceived a fictional female character inspired by early MPB songs that were named after the women covered in their own lyrics. In this case, the lyrics are about a woman that talks too much - according to Britto, who also wrote the song, it criticizes times in which "people talk a lot but little is said". Miklos, the third and final author of the song, says the lyrics pay some "tributes".

"I made mortar and set up bricks," she said. There she lived in a small rented room. She did not finish high school because the shows she was doing every day on a different shift did not allow her a schedule to study. Characterized by deep voice and her eclectic choices of material, she played songs of great composers of Brazilian rock such as Cazuza, Renato Russo and Rita Lee, as well as of MPB like Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque, and of pop like Nando Reis, and of sambas like Riachão and of international rock like Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, John Lennon and Nirvana.

Initially a strong popular appeal newspaper, facing police and violence news, the newspaper underwent extensive renovation in the early 1990s, with the intention to compete for readers with more traditional Jornal do Brasil and O Globo. With the death of Ary Carvalho in 2003, the company's property was divided between his three daughters: Ariane, Gigi and Eliane de Carvalho. In 2005, Ariane has left the company to found the newspaper Q !, bringing together radio MPB FM. Fafá de Belém, born Maria de Fátima Palha de Figueiredo in Belém do Pará on August 9, 1956, is a Brazilian singer considered one of the great female singers of MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira). She took her stage name from the city of her birth and in addition to a successful recording career that spans over three decades, it is fair to say that she has been one of the great sex symbols of Brazilian pop music. Her husky mezzo-soprano voice is known for its extensive emotional range, from tender ballads, to sensual love songs, to Portuguese fados all the way to energetic sambas and lambadas.
The work, inspired by Elis Regina and Chico Buarque and released by independent record label, focused on the roots of Samba and MPB, leaving aside the old pop music that realized. The album did not have any song released for the radio, although "Sufoco" was featured in the soundtrack of the novel Mutantes: Promessas de Amor. At the end of 2009 along with her friend Karin Hils happens to integrate the cast of the adaptation of Broadway musical Hairspray, gaining prominence for its performance despite the small role. From this year changed her stage name for the third time to Aline Wirley, her second surname, in order to sound more sophisticated to the musicals.
Mais is an album by Brazilian singer Marisa Monte, released in 1991. By the time of the album's release, newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo praised the album, saying Monte was "less dramatic, with her voice even more tuned and crystalline, which seemed impossible, Monte even commoves. And, definitely, enters the pantheon of the titans, in all senses." In a 2020 retrospective review for his blog on G1, Mauro Ferreira said the album saw the emerging of "a Brazilian pop music which conciliated MPB, rock, samba and Northeasten [Brazil] music without having one genre overcome the other" and that Mais "reversed expectations of the ones waiting for another album of Brazilian music jewels polishing".
The late 70s witnessed the fast-growing interest of punk countrywide: pioneer bands AI-5 and N.A.I. (later known as Condutores de Cadáver) sprouted in São Paulo, Carne Podre in Curitiba and Aborto Elétrico in Brasília. Before contemporary punk groups came along two relatively famous glam/hard rock bands, Joelho de Porco and Made in Brazil, helped promote elements of the punk aesthetic around 1977/78. Both bands were important to the early days of Brazilian punk, offering a new alternative to the MPB and progressive rock artists that dominated the country's music scene at the time. Joelho de Porco, whose lyrics bore a strong influence from São Paulo's urban environment, became highly influential.
In 1986 he had released a first recording Minha Cara the same year he began to work as a producer for other musicians, debuting with an album by Vinícius Cantuária followed by productions for Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Virgínia Rodrigues, Daniela Mercury, Daúde and others. He also worked with Milton Nascimento, Djavan, Adriana Calcanhotto, Bebel Gilberto and many more. His third collaborative album with Ronaldo Bastos Juventude / Slow Motion Bossa Nova was nominated for two Latin Grammys as Best MPB Album and the song “A Voz do Coração” as Best Brazilian Song. His best-known international releases so far are the two albums he has recorded for Crammed Discs' sublabel Ziriguiboom: Natural (2003) and Rive Gauche Rio (2005).

Erasmo Carlos (born Erasmo Esteves on June 5, 1941) is a Brazilian singer and songwriter, most closely associated with his friend and longtime collaborator Roberto Carlos (no relation). Together, they have created many chart hits including "É Proibido Fumar", "Sentado à beira do caminho", "Além do Horizonte", "Amigo" and "Festa de Arromba". A core member of the Jovem Guarda ("Young Guard") scene of 1960s Brazilian pop-rock, Erasmo often appeared on television, in magazines and feature films with fellow teen idols Roberto Carlos and Wanderléa. In contrast to his simpler pop-rock early sound, Erasmo went on to produce several of the more moody and introspective MPB records of the 1970s, including Sonhos e Memórias and Carlos, Erasmo.
Luiz Carlos dos Santos (7 January 1951 – 4 August 2017), widely known by his stage name Luiz Melodia, was a Brazilian singer-songwriter whose music was a characteristic crossover of multiple music genres including música popular brasileira (MPB), rock music, blues, soul music and samba. He has been described as 'one of the most important Brazilian-born musicians.' Son of samba music dilettante Oswaldo 'Melodia' (whose epithet he took on as a stage name), Melodia grew up on a morro (a slum that stretches over a hillside, typical of Rio de Janeiro) in the Estácio district—often referred to as the 'Birthplace [or cradle] of Samba'. Melodia's first LP record, Pérola negra (Black Pearl), was released in 1973.
Connoisseurs of MPB and tropicalia have a particular regard for the first few years of their recording career, when they were signed to Brazil's most daring label, Elenco. The Quarteto em Cy, noted for the extraordinary precision of the vocalists' intonation and delivery, performed and recorded with almost every single major Brazilian artist of the '60s and '70s; their popularity exceeded and still exceeds the borders of their native country. They met with great success in America in the mid-sixties, and have a considerable following in Japan, where they still tour regularly. The line-up of the quartet (which briefly split up, from 1970 to 1972) has changed a great deal over the years.
They were Roberto Carlos, Erasmo Carlos and Wanderléa, with other bands and musicians appearing on the show as guests. The style became popularly known as "iê-iê-iê", a term that, like French yé-yé, is most likely based on the frequent "yeah" cries heard in songs of the period (for instance, the Beatles' "She loves you/Yeah yeah yeah"). Iê-iê-iê was often considered a lesser genre, inferior to the more sophisticated bossa nova and MPB music of the period. Jovem Guarda also became a lucrative business thanks to merchandise that explored its theme and even a couple of themed motion pictures were shot during the period, thus reinforcing the idea of its lack of artistic integrity.
The other is a small dormitory which also contains the Head Resident's apartment and at one time housed the chapel and three classrooms. (A twin to this dorm was demolished in 2006 to make way for a larger dormitory.) Two new buildings were added to campus in the early 1990s. An Administration Building opened in 1993; prior to this time all college offices were located in the lower level of one of the dormitories. The Library/Classroom Building was completed in 1995, which allowed the library to move from its cramped quarters in the MPB into a modern facility and provided needed classroom space for the growing student body and expanding programs of the college.

Música de Rua (Portuguese for "Street Music") is the third album by Brazilian axé and MPB singer Daniela Mercury, released in 1994 in Brazil and on October 11, 1994 in North America and Europe through Sony Music. Música de Rua was released right after the massive success of Mercury's previous album, O Canto da Cidade (1992). It was very well received by the public, having sold over one million copies (achieving a diamond certification) and spreading two number-one singles ("Música de Rua" e "O Reggae e o Mar"). However, Música de Rua was not very well received by the critics who pointed out that the album sounded too similar to Mercury's previous and accused it of being a copycat of her own work.
Producer Aloysio de Oliveira, a key figure in the internationalization of Brazilian popular music, founded Elenco in 1963. While the label is renowned for its output of bossa nova, Elenco's first releases were early MPB and Latin jazz, reflecting the tastes of its founder, who was also a musician. Musicians such as Baden Powell de Aquino (commonly known as Baden Powell), Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Maysa, Lúcio Alves, and Sylvia Telles recorded stellar albums for Elenco, which are today considered as masterpieces of their genres. The most significant records were released between 1963 and 1968 and are instantly recognizable by their minimalistic sleeve artwork, designed by Brazilian photographer Chico Vilella, which often consists of a monochrome photograph or painting scattered with small red dots.
The album sold over 2.5 million copies in Brazil alone (which made Mercury the first artist to receive a double-diamond certification in her country) and was considered by journalist André Domingues one of the best MPB albums ever. O Canto da Cidade is Mercury's album with most number-one songs (four in total; "O Canto da Cidade", "O Mais Belo dos Belos", "Batuque" and "Você Não Entende Nada/Cotidiano"). The songs "Só Pra Te Mostrar", a duet with Herbert Vianna, and "Bandidos da América" made a moderate success in the Brazilian radio stations, reaching number nine and twenty-one in the charts, respectively. O Canto da Cidade is recognized as the album responsible for taking Axé Music to mainstream audiences in Brazil.
"A Banda (Ah Bahn-da)" (Portuguese for "The Band") is a composition by Chico Buarque that was first performed live by Chico Buarque and Nara Leão, in 1966, during the II Música Popular Brasileira (MPB) Festival in TV Record's theater, São Paulo, when and where the song won the "Viola de Ouro" award for best composition. "A Banda" brought Chico Buarque immediately into the limelight in Brazil. The song was also released in 1966, on the Brazilian RGE label, as the first track of side 1 in Chico Buarque de Hollanda (Vol. 1) LP. The following year Astrud Gilberto brought the song to the US, recording it with English lyrics on the Verve/Copacabana label, crediting Bob Russell for the English lyrics.
ABS-CBN Interactive, Tonypet Albano is new RPN-9 chief Mercado's first major move was to expand their partnerships with Solar Entertainment. Programming from Solar's cable network C/S was added to RPN's lineup at the beginning of the new year, and PBA basketball would also return to the network beginning in the 2008–09 season, as part of Solar Sports' new three-year deal with the league after an expiration of ABC's contract due to the network's rebranding as TV5, because of the blocktime agreement with Malaysian-based Media Prima Berhad subsidiary MPB Primedia, Inc. and intense bidding war with ABS-CBN. In October 2008, RPN's stations ultimately took on the C/S name as part of their permanent branding, and rebranded itself as C/S 9.
Camrose held five high quality copper and cobalt mining permits in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). They include the Kolwezi tailings project, which the DRC government had confiscated from First Quantum Minerals (FQM). FQM had spent C$750 million developing the Kolwezi assets. ENRC paid $175 million for its majority stake in Camrose. In September 2010 ENRC acquired the outstanding 50% interest in Bahia Minerals BV and in October 2010 – 100% of Mineração Minas Bahia SA (MIBA) and 51% of Mineração Peixe Bravo SA (MPB). In March 2013 ENRC was forced to write down a US$1.5bn (£1bn) loss due largely to an "onerous" locked in contract with the Russian aluminium company, Rusal with whom they must provide aluminium at what is now below market price (Telegraph 2013).
The first line-up, consisting of João Ricardo, Gérson Conrad and Ney Matogrosso, plus various musicians as John Flavin (guitar), Willy Verdaguer (electric guitar), Marcelo Frias (drums), Sergio Rosadas (flute), plus a special participation of Zé Rodrix was short- lived - only two albums were released, one in 1973 and one in 1974, both self- titled. This line-up achieved success, appearing in several television broadcasts and remains highly influential today. Matogrosso's unusual high- pitched voice helped create a distinct identity as well as the band's eccentric heavy make-up and outfits (developed by Matogrosso himself, with influences ranging from Brazilian indigenous peoples to kabuki theater). In typical Tropicália fashion, Secos & Molhados's style was one marked by a broad fusion of genres, including glam rock, MPB, fado and experimental music, among others.
O Canto da Cidade is recognized as the album responsible for taking Axé Music to mainstream audiences in Brazil. The album also yielded Mercury, a year-end special on Rede Globo channel, which were mixed with live performances in the square of Apotheosis in Rio de Janeiro, and video clips with Caetano Veloso, Herbert Vianna and Tom Jobim.

Most lyrics for both studio albums were adapted from the work of poets such as Manuel Bandeira and Vinicius de Moraes. In reference to their MPB musical style, “Another group that expressed its disagreement via the physicality of its performance style—and, inevitably, via rock music, was the Secos & Molhados. Mixing progressive rock and blues, incorporating Luso- Brazilian folk references (in “O vira” – [name of a Portuguese dance]) and by the constant inclusion of poetry—by names like Vinicius de Moraes, Manuel Bandeira and Fernando Pessoa, among others—the trio enjoyed a meteoric career, with two albums released between 1971 and 1974, and an enormous popular success driven by the visual appeal of their makeup and the sexually ambiguous theatricality of vocalist Ney Matogrosso. The Secos & Molhados appear at Maracanã stadium in 1974 Ronald Fonseca/ Agência O Globo.
The first period can be defined as opposition to what is considered a move away of the Galician Nationalist Bloc from some of its key objectives, especially the National sovereignty and its leftist ideology. The political praxis of the BNG in the PSOE in the bipartite Xunta de Galicia (2005-2009) caused that militants of the Galician People's Union decided to leave that party to create a new organization within the BNG, under the name of Movemento pola Base (MpB). They were joined by independent militants of the BNG (not attached to any internal group or party) militants and members off the Confederación Intersindical Galega in the comarcas of Ferrolterra, Compostela and Vigo, among them Antolín Alcántara,Leader of the Confederación Intersindical Galega-Metal federation. Fermín Paz, Manuel Mera and Ramiro Oubiña, who were part of the executive of the CIG.
Then came AI-5 and N.A.I. (later known as Condutores de Cadáver, "corpse riders") in São Paulo, as well as Carne Podre ("rotten flesh") in Curitiba (the capital of Paraná State), and Aborto Elétrico ("electric miscarriage") in Brasília (the national capital). Before punk proper bands emerged, two relatively famous glam and hard rock bands, Joelho de Porco (literally "pig knee") and Made in Brazil, used elements of the punk aesthetic around 1977 or 1978, and were called punk bands by the media without really playing punk rock music or defining themselves as such. Both bands, however, were important to the pre-punk context of the 1970s that offered few alternatives to the Música popular brasileira (MPB) and progressive rock artists that dominated the Brazilian music scene at the time. Joelho de Porco's lyrics dealing with São Paulo's urban reality was also influential.
Contrasting with the new wave sound the band had developed during its heyday in the mid-1980s, Déjà-Vu heads toward a much slower direction influenced by jazz and traditional Brazilian genres such as samba, bossa nova and MPB, and contains numerous covers of popular singers of such genres like Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben Jor, Ary Barroso, Jair Rodrigues and Ataulfo Alves. Re-recordings of some of their hits from the 1980s ("Sândalo de Dândi", "Johnny Love" and "Beat Acelerado") are also included. The album counts with many guest musicians, such as Waly Salomão (in one of his last credited works prior to his death one year after the album's release), Preta Gil, Otto, Lucas Santtana, Jorge Mautner and Nélson Jacobina.Metrô - Déjà-Vu Remixes of four of the album's tracks by different DJs are included as bonus tracks.

The following year would see the band's next release, Várias Variáveis (Many Variables), that failed to repeat its predecessor's success, even with songs well-known to fans like "Piano Bar", "Muros & Grades" (Walls and Bars) and "Herdeiro da Pampa Pobre" (Heir of the Poor Pampa), cover version from a Gaúcho da Fronteira song. In 1992, a brand-new album, Gessinger, Licks & Maltz, or GLM for short (a homage to Emerson, Lake & Palmer). Their sound kept on mixing MPB, Milonga and progressive elements, most noticeably in the tracks "Pampa no Walkman" (Pampa With a Walkman), "Ninguém = Ninguém" (Nobody = Nobody, or extensively, no one is like anyone) and "Parabólica" (Parabolic), a song composed by Gessinger in homage to his daughter, Clara. Their follow-up release is a semi-acoustic album: Filmes de Guerra, Canções de Amor (War Movies, Love Songs), from 1993, recorded live in Sala Cecília Meirelles, Rio de Janeiro.
Fellini was a Brazilian rock band formed in São Paulo in 1984 by Cadão Volpato (vocals, harmonica), Jair Marcos (guitar), Ricardo Salvagni (drums and percussion), and former Voluntários da Pátria and Smack member Thomas Pappon (bass and occasionally other instruments). One of the most well-known bands of the Brazilian underground scene of the mid-1980s (and having a strong cult following to the present day), Fellini originally began as a straightforward post-punk band influenced by acts such as Joy Division, The Stranglers and The Durutti Column, but would gradually develop a more eclectic sonority that mixed post-punk with other genres such as MPB, new wave and samba rock, acquiring a unique, almost non-descript musical style. Fellini was first disestablished in 1990, but re-established in 2002 until ending again in 2010. A further reunion of the band was announced in early 2016.
For their 1997 album Minuano (no certain translation; minuano is the name given to the breezes that blow over the pampas), which marked the return of Engenheiros, a new keyboardist, Lucio Dorfman, joined the band. The disc, which mixed regional influences and critical lyrics by Gessinger, combining the success of "A Montanha" (The Mountain), as well as other songs such as "Nuvem" (Cloud) and "Alucinação" (Hallucination), a cover of an old tune by MPB singer Belchior. The follow-up, Tchau Radar! (Bye Bye Radar!), from 1999, showed a more mature Engenheiros, with tunes considered beautiful by fans, like "Eu Que Não Amo Você" (It's Me Who Don't Love You) and "3 x 4" (roughly translated as ID Photo - 3x4 is its popular name in Brazil, referring to its measurements in centimeters), and two covers: "Negro Amor" (Black Love), a version of Bob Dylan's It's All Over Now, Baby Blue, and "A Cruzada" (The Crusade).

During a trip to Rio de Janeiro in late 2001, Virginie, Roland and Laouenan met, and after being approached by their former producer/manager, Luiz Carlos Maluly, talks about a possible reunion began, which eventually came to happen the following year with the recording of their first studio album in 17 years: Déjà-Vu, released by independent label Trama. Alec Haiat decided not to partake in the reunion due to "personal reasons" and his involvement with other projects at the time, and so was replaced by Patife Band and Okotô member André Fonseca. Xavier Leblanc, who was also very busy with his bistro, only served as a session member on two tracks, being subsequently replaced by Pedro Albuquerque. Heavily inspired by folkloric Brazilian songs, samba, bossa nova and MPB both in sonority and lyrical themes, Déjà-Vu counted with the participation of a vast array of guest musicians, such as Preta Gil, Jorge Mautner, Nélson Jacobina, Lucas Santtana, Waly Salomão and Otto.
Against this trend of more commercial country music, names like the duo Pena Branca e Xavantinho reappeared, adapting to the language of MPB success of guitars, and new artists emerged like Almir Sater, a sophisticated guitar player, who moved among the styles of guitar and the blues. In the following decade, a new generation of sertanejo artists, including Roberto Correa, Ivan Vilela, Pereira da Viola, and Chico Lobo e Miltinho Edilberto, emerged who were willing to reunite the caipira traditions. The recording industry therefore launched a similar movement in the 2000s called sertanejo universitário, with names like Marcos & Leo, Joao Bosco & Vinicius, César Menotti & Fabiano, Jorge & Mateus, Victor & Leo, Fernando & Sorocaba, Marcos & Belutti, João Neto & Frederico. As this movement wins more supporters, the market formerly focused on that the advent of sertanejo artists and duos in Goias state, has today elected new idols in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul such as Luan Santana and Maria Cecilia & Rodolfo.
The Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG) had split following its 13th national assembly in January 2012 over dissatisfaction with the bloc's political line and the control exercised by the Galician People's Union (UPG). Among the splitting forces were Xosé Manuel Beiras's Encontro Irmandiño (EI), Nationalist Left (EN), Máis Galiza (+G), the Galician Nationalist Party–Galicianist Party (PNG–PG), the Galician Workers' Front (FOGA) and the Galician Socialist Space (ESG), whereas Inzar and the Socialist Collective chose to dissolve. The split parties would rally around a broad umbrella dubbed as the Novo Proxecto Común (), which would provide the basis for the emergence of two new political forces: EI and the FOGA would join other political forces—such as the Galician People's Front (FPG) and Movemento pola Base (MpB)—into the new Renewal–Nationalist Brotherhood (Anova) party, while EN would merge with +G, ESG, PNG–PG, Terra Galega, Espazo Ecosocialista Galego and Acción Galega into the newly-established Commitment to Galicia (CxG).
On 17 February 2018, in line with the recent changes within the network and in celebration of its 10th anniversary, TV5 was relaunched as The 5 Network or simply 5 with a new logo and station ID entitled Get It on 5, whereas the word TV on the top right quadrant of the logo was dropped, making it more flexible for the other divisions to use it as part of their own identity. Aside from rebranding, TV5's programming grid was divided into three blocks: ESPN5 (Sports), News 5, and On 5 (Entertainment, Anime, Cartoons, Informative and Home TV Shopping), along with D5 Studio (Digital Content) and Studio 5 (World-class Filipino productions for audiences across all platforms). Along with the rebrand, the Kapatid moniker was also de-emphasized and is now only used by News5 and ESPN5 for some of its programs. But the more visible change was the gradual phaseout of Filipino-dubbed movies and foreign-acquired programming, a practice that dated back from the operations under the MPB Primedia era in 2008.
According to Skylab, the album's name (and the trilogy it is part of) was inspired by a controversial statement given by fellow musician Lulu Santos in late December 2017, in which he stated "MPB was de-evolving to its 'anal phase'", alluding to the then-recently released music video for Anitta's "Vai Malandra". Indirectly criticizing the statement, Skylab then replied that, "to affirm this tendency, [his] next album would have ass everywhere". On March 7, 2018, Skylab announced on his Facebook page that he already began working on such album, and that it would be called O Rei do Cu. On the same post, he also said that it would be the first installment of a new trilogy, the "Trilogia do Cu".Rogério Skylab - Facebook (March 7, 2018) On April 2, 2018, Skylab uploaded to his SoundCloud page a brief teaser of one of the tracks that would be featured on the album, "Dedo no Cu e Gritaria",Rogério Skylab - Dedo no Cu e Gritaria which was inspired by an obscure Internet meme originated in Brazilian shitposting communities.
Construção (Construction), the fourth and title track, was arranged by Rogério Duprat, blending bossa nova, MPB, and symphonic musical styles with Afro-Brazilian rhythms to emphasize the dodecasyllable verses (lines with twelve syllables), each of which ends in a proparoxytone word (a word with the stress on the antepenultimate syllable); it is arguably the album's most emotionally powerful piece. Cordão (Cord), the fifth track, is a defiant and uplifting bossa nova style declaration that opposes efforts to stifle an individual's creativity and freedom. The sixth track, Olha Maria (Look, Mary), is a beautiful and bittersweet tune recorded and performed with its cowriter, Antonio Carlos Jobim, as well as Lee Ritenour and Zimbo Trio. Buarque composed the gorgeous seventh track, Samba de Orly, with Toquinho and Vinicius de Moraes, and it is infused with both saudade and cautious hopefulness for political change in—and possible return to—Brazil from the perspective of formal- and self-exiled politicians and artists, many of whom lived abroad during much of the military government's twenty-two years in power.
When Gil met them, he immediately knew Os Mutantes were on the same track as the Baianos, and the band worked extensively with the members of the Tropicalia collective over the next two years, becoming an integral part of the movement. Gil Invited them to accompany him at TV Record's 1967 III Festival da MPB, where they performed Gil's "Domingo no Parque" with the addition of Rogério Duprat conducting an orchestra with his revolutionary arrangements. Gil's friend Caetano Veloso also performed with a rock group (São Paulo band Beat Boys), and although the novelty of electric instruments and the general irreverence of the mixing of western pop and strange orchestral sounds irritated some in the festival audience, both performances ultimately won approval, with Gil coming second and Veloso taking fourth place. Within a year, however, the nascent Tropicalia movement would face strident opposition from both the military junta that ruled Brazil at the time, and from Brazil's student left, who regarded the Tropicalistas' dalliance with Western pop as a sell-out.
Rede Record also lost much footage from the 1960s due to wiping, fires, and deterioration; most of the MPB music festivals no longer exist, and the sitcom Família Trapo (pt) has only one surviving episode, featuring Pelé. Until 1997, Rede Record had no policy on archiving videotapes; since then, at least 600 videotapes that were previously believed to be lost have been recovered with the help of the Instituto Ressoar (pt). Rede Globo lost the first 35 broadcasts of both Fantástico and Jornal Nacional, in addition to many segments of their other soap operas as a result of wiping, and also due to three fires that occurred in 1969 (at its São Paulo studios), 1971 and 1976, (the latter two at its Rio de Janeiro studios) where in the 1976 fire, an estimated 920 to 1,500 tapes were destroyed. Most of Rede Excelsior's output was damaged in a fire in 1969; however, in the late 1990s about 100 tapes of Rede Excelsior programming were discovered in the archives of Rede Globo and Rede Gazeta and these tapes were restored by the Faculdade Cásper Líbero and subsequently donated to the Cinemateca Brasileira in 2001.
