"Mithen a real utility player", The Sporting Globe, (Wednesday, 21 April 1954), p.4. he played in three consecutive premierships from 1955 to 1957 and was a premiership player again in 1959 and 1960 to finish with five. Mithen played as a half forward early in his career before moving into the centre.

McHale joined Coburg, at the time a junior club, and came to notice with his consistency, which led to an invitation to play at Collingwood. McHale made his league debut in 1903 for the black and white, playing as a half-back before moving into the centre. Durability was the cornerstone of his reputation as a player – he set a VFL record by playing 191 games consecutively between 1906 and 1917. This record was not beaten until 1943.

In 2015 Gunston was Hawthorn's leading goalkicker, kicking 57 goals. He injured his knee in the Qualifying Final against the West Coast Eagles, but returned in the Grand Final to kick 4 goals, in Hawthorn's three-peat victory against the Eagles once more. In 2016, Gunston was forced to take on new roles due to the season-ending injury received by Jarryd Roughead, occasionally moving into the centre. Regardless, he kicked 51 goals over the Home-and-Away season and the finals, and was widely regarded as being in excellent form.

Turner was born in Brithdir, Caerphilly and after playing for minor clubs, Bargoed and Caerphilly, he joined Merthyr Town in May 1922. In his first season, he played at centre forward for the Football League Third Division South club and was their top scorer with twelve goals from forty appearances. Herbert Lewis "Bert" Turner, to whom he was not related, played alongside him at inside left, scoring five. For the following season, the players swapped positions with Bert moving into the centre, but Ernest continued to outscore his namesake, with fifteen goals to Bert's five.

Two days later he scored the decisive goal 7 minutes from time in the 3–2 away victory at Grimsby; a free-kick, which curled into the top right corner which gave the goalkeeper McKeown no chance. On 14 February 2014, Andrew scored a 38th-minute equaliser in the 2–1 home defeat to Luton Town; moving into the centre of the field, he let fly from 20 yards with a left footed shot from outside the box into the bottom right corner. Andrew is the only player in the squad to have played in every senior game of that season.

James George Facey Matthews (27 September 1876 – 8 October 1963) was an Australian sportsman who played Australian rules football for North Adelaide in the South Australian Football Association (SAFA) and, as a cricketer, played seven Sheffield Shield matches for South Australia. Matthews was a member of North Adelaide's first three premiership sides, in 1900, 1902 and 1905. He started his career as a forward and topped the club's goalkicking in his debut season before moving into the centre later in his career. Matthews finished his career as a fullback and twice represented South Australia at interstate football.

Dyer was born in Portsmouth and played youth football in Southampton where he was spotted by Southampton F.C. for whom he signed in the 1906 close season. He spent most of his career at The Dell in the reserves and made his solitary first-team appearance at Northampton Town on 6 April 1907 when Sam Jepp was taken ill shortly before kick-off. Dyer played at inside-right with Frank Jefferis moving to the left and Wally Radford moving into the centre-forward position. The match finished 4–2 to Southampton, with two goals from Radford and one each from Patten and Mouncher.

Radford was born in Pinxton, Derbyshire, where he played football as a youth before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers, then in the Football League First Division, as a trainee. He made two first-team appearances in the 1905–06 season, at the end of which the "Wolves" were relegated. In January 1906, he moved to the south coast, to join Southampton of the Southern League. The "Saints" finished the season as runners-up, and were hopeful of regaining the championship title in 1907, which they had won six times in the previous ten years. Radford made his debut in the opening match of the 1906–07 season, playing at centre- forward; after the team picked up only one point from the first three matches, Radford moved to outside-right, with Fred Harrison moving into the centre.
