The race led over 15 laps, which corresponded to a distance of 63 kilometres (length of one lap: 4,2 km).

Thomas Edward Phillis (9 April 1934 – 6 June 1962) was an Australian professional Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. He was also the first person to win a World Championship motorcycle race on a Japanese machine.

Jurby Airfield was originally used as a Royal Air Force training base in World War II. During the 1950s it was used as a training camp for Officer cadets on short term commissions in the RAF. The course lasted three months. Part of the airfield is now used as an industrial and retail estate. The old runways and taxiways now form the Jurby motorcycle race track.

Star Rider is a LaserDisc-based arcade racing game developed by Computer Creations and Williams Electronics and released in 1983. The object of the game is to win a futuristic motorcycle race that takes place in surrealistic settings. The tracks themselves and the background graphics are video played from a laserdisc, and are of higher quality than possible with real-time computer graphics at the time. The foreground graphics and racers are superimposed on the video.

TTXGP Logo The TTXGP was a new event for the 2009 Isle of Man TT races. It was promoted by Azhar Hussain, who took the idea forward after a number of different Manx individuals had had the initial idea. The Bathurst motorcycle race riots, or Easter Motorcycle riots were a series of disturbances between 1980 and 1985 involving motorsport spectators and the New South Wales Police Force Tactical Response Group during the Australian motorcycle Grand Prix. Following the 1985 race meeting, the Bathurst Regional Council placed a total ban on spectators taking their own alcohol into events at the Mount Panorama Circuit. This ban has subsequently been revoked. The council also put a limit on the number of drinks spectators could purchase per day from the outlets at the track.

The Ulster Grand Prix was included as one of the races in the inaugural 1949 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season (now MotoGP), a place it held until 1971. It also counted for the Formula TT Championship between 1979 and 1990.

Roland "Rollie" Free (November 18, 1900 – October 11, 1984) was a motorcycle racer best known for breaking the American motorcycle land speed record in 1948 on the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. The picture of Free, prone and wearing a bathing suit, has been described as the most famous picture in motorcycling. After an early career in motorcycle retail, Free became a regional racer of the 1920s and 30's on Indian motorcycles. In 1923, Free tried out for his first national motorcycle race, the 100-Mile National Championships on the board track in Kansas City, but did not qualify.

The TT motorcycle race course known as the Snaefell Mountain Course runs through Kirk Michael village. Michael District stretches from the Irish Sea in the west, inland to Druidale in the east and from Orrisdale in the north to Glen Cam in the south. The district contains few settlements; the main village is Kirk Michael. There is a coastal strip, about 3 km wide, of agricultural land, and the remainder of the parish consists of moorland, of which the highest points are Slieau Freoaghane (), Sartfell (), Slieau Curn () and Slieau Dhoo () (together known as the Michael Hills).

Kit (Chow Yun-fat) works at his uncle, Ching's (Ng Wui) car repair shop. Due to his reckless personality, Kit engages in a motorcycle race against a rascal, Q (Lau Kwok-shing), and wrecks Q's bike, much to the dissatisfaction of the latter. As a result, Q and his acquaintances retaliate by wrecking Ching's repair shop and towing the vehicles away. To get even with Q, Kit goes to an underground casino owned by triads hoping to use swindling skills which he learned from his godfather, Kan (Chiang Nan), to win a large sum of money.

The circuit was established by the Singer Car Club, with its opening meeting held on the weekend of 17–18 February 1962. The land for the circuit was provided by wealthy Camden grazier Dan Cleary, who also ran an earthmoving business, which provided the equipment used to help build the circuit. A motorcycle race meeting was held on 17 February 1963, with reigning Grand Prix Champion Jim Redman being the star attraction. Redman won nearly every class and set the lap record of 50.4 seconds, only 0.8 seconds slower than Frank Matich's outright time set in a 2.6-litre Lotus Sports Car.

In 2012 the owning club, Hobart Sporting Car Club, launched the Baskerville Foundation, a fundraising initiative to bring the circuit to a more modern standard with the ultimate goal of a full resurface of the track. In 2015 the circuit gained a naming rights sponsor in Pepsi Max, with the circuit changing its name to Pepsi Max Baskerville Raceway The circuit now holds several events including the Tasmanian Super Series, Tasmanian Drift Series, the Baskerville Historics the Baskerville 2-Hour Motorcycle Race and several smaller events. The Circuit also hosts several non Motorsport events such as the Raw Challenge.

After the first Monaco Grand Prix after the War in 1948, a motorcycle race was held, but this was never repeated. At the next Monaco Grand Prix, in 1950, was the first Prix de Monaco held for 500cc Formula Three cars, and was won by Stirling Moss. After another one-year hiatus the Monaco Grand Prix returned in 1952 now as a sports car race, with the Prix de Monte Carlo held for sports cars up to 2 litres. The Monaco Grand Prix was placed on hiatus again until 1955, but the Prix de Monte Carlo would not return.

Southern Taiwanese triad member Lam Kong (Andy Lau) flees to Hong Kong after killing another triad leader (Blackie Ko) in a motorcycle race. He hides in the house of triad leader Nip Ching's (Chan King-cheung) mistress Sue (Shirley Lui), who is also the lover of Nip's underling Chiu Kwai (Sunny Fong). Nip thinks highly of Kong due to his hard work and living up his demand to assist Chui Kwai in trading. Detective Ronny Cambridge (Robert Zajac) has been investigating Nip and Chiu's illegal activities and after his informant was recently killed, he blackmails Kong to be his new informant.

As it heads south, it passes a rest stop at Parres, a small town within Mexico City limits, with amenities such as a Federal Police booth, restaurants and convenience stores. At kilometer 47, the road passes into Morelos, arriving in Tres Marías later after a rest stop at Covadonga. The road turns east and then makes a hairpin curve dubbed La Pera (The Pear), bending for the southwest and toward Cuernavaca. As Tres Marías has a large motorcycling community, the highway in this area is sometimes used as a motorcycle race track, with fatal consequences for those who fall off at the curve.

Four years later, the moving force of the road building, the Salzburg provincial head of government Franz Rehrl, and the technician Franz Wallack climbed into their Steyr 100 car, and achieved the first alpine crossing in an automobile on a graded road. A year later, on 3 August 1935, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road was opened and put into full service a day later with an international automobile and motorcycle race.

Gary Nixon (January 25, 1941 – August 5, 2011) was an American professional motorcycle racer who most notably won the A.M.A. Grand National Championship in 1967 and 1968 as a member of the Triumph factory racing team. He was also the winner of the 1967 Daytona 200 motorcycle race on a 500cc Triumph Daytona. Nixon was also known for his partnership with legendary tuner Erv Kanemoto when they won the 1973 U.S. National Road Racing Championship for Kawasaki. He competed at the international level in the 1976 Formula 750 championship, laying claim to the Formula 750 world championship on a modified Kawasaki KR750 until international politics denied him that prize.

In 2008, Eurosport secured a multi-year deal to show the entire race, including the qualifying and the motorcycle race. Every hour of the 2008 race was broadcast in segments on the main channel and on Eurosport 2, but in recent years, a couple of hours were missed due to scheduling clashes with other sporting events. In addition, Eurosport provided live streaming on its website to subscribers. The basic synopsis revolves around journalist Raoul Duke (Hunter S. Thompson) and his attorney, Dr. Gonzo (Oscar Zeta Acosta), as they arrive in Las Vegas in 1971 to report on the Mint 400 motorcycle race for an unnamed magazine. However, this job is repeatedly obstructed by their constant use of a variety of recreational drugs, including LSD, ether, cocaine, alcohol, mescaline, and cannabis. This leads to a series of bizarre hallucinogenic experiences, during which they destroy hotel rooms, wreck cars, and have visions of anthropomorphic desert animals, all the while ruminating on the decline of both the "American Dream" and the '60s counterculture in a city of greed.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the track where the race was held New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a oval speedway located in Loudon, New Hampshire which has hosted NASCAR racing annually since the early 1990s, as well as an IndyCar weekend and the oldest motorcycle race in North America, the Loudon Classic. Nicknamed "The Magic Mile", the speedway is often converted into a road course, which includes much of the oval. The track was originally the site of Bryar Motorsports Park before being purchased and redeveloped by Bob Bahre. The track is currently one of eight major NASCAR tracks owned and operated by Speedway Motorsports.

Many AFM competitors hold a current AMA Professional racing license and some of their racers actively race abroad. The American Federation of Motorcyclists is a professional racing club with an experienced technical inspection staff, many of whom are certified technical inspectors with the AMA, World Superbike and MotoGP. Race Director Barbara Smith has over 30 years of race director experience and is one of the most experienced motorcycle race directors in the United States. The AFM facilitates a mentor program for newer racers to enhance their transition from being a motorcycle enthusiast to becoming a motorcycle racing competitor and the AFM endeavors to maintain a benevolence fund to assist injured racers.

After a near fatal accident at the North West 200 motorcycle race in May 2015, Dr Hinds' views received widespread support and he began a public campaign for Northern Ireland to have its own air ambulance. In March 2016, the key findings of a HEMS consultation were announced. In August 2016, it was announced by the Northern Irish government that Air Ambulance NI would partner with the health service in Northern Ireland to provide the helicopter emergency medical service. The clinical model has from the outset been based on a doctor and paramedic working in partnership, with the doctors seconded from consultant tier emergency medicine and anaesthetic/critical care physicians across Northern Ireland.

Amaroo Park Raceway was a motor racing circuit located in Annangrove, New South Wales, in the present-day western suburbs of Sydney, Australia. It was opened in 1967, hosting its first motorcycle meeting on 26 February with a 30 lap production race won by Larry Simons on a BSA Spitfire in heavy rain. The first dry meeting saw the lap record set by Jack Ahearn at 63.9 seconds. The road circuit served as a venue for a variety of competitions including the Castrol 6 Hour motorcycle race, rounds of the Australian Touring Car Championship, Australian Drivers' Championship, Australian Formula Ford Championship, Australian Sports Sedan Championship, the AMSCAR Series for touring cars, historic racing and others.

Soichiro Honda, being a race driver himself, could not stay out of international motorsport. In 1959, Honda entered five motorcycles into the Isle of Man TT race, the most prestigious motorcycle race in the world. While always having powerful engines, it took until 1961 for Honda to tune their chassis well enough to allow Mike Hailwood to claim their first Grand Prix victories in the 125 and 250 cc classes. Hailwood would later pick up their first Senior TT wins in 1966 and 1967. Honda's race bikes were known for their "sleek & stylish design" and exotic engine configurations, such as the 5-cylinder, 22,000 rpm, 125 cc bike and their 6-cylinder 250 cc and 297 cc bikes.

The race started at 9 am (on a Monday due to a motorcycle race the previous day) under threatening clouds, with the first pair away being Émile Mathis and Ralph DePalma (in a Ballot), with DePalma making a considerably better start. The other cars followed in pairs at one-minute intervals (the original starting intervals of 30 seconds having been changed at the last minute), with Andre Dubonnet last to start on his own in a Duesenberg. Fastest on the first lap were both DePalma and Joe Boyer in a Duesenberg, equal with 8 minutes 16, with the third-place also a tie, between Murphy in a Duesenberg and Jean Chassagne in a Ballot.

1914 Indian team: 18, Gene Walker; 16, Dave Kinney; 15, Don Johns; 19, Specs Warner; 20, Marty Graves; 17, Red Armstrong Gene Walker (June 7, 1893 – June 21, 1924) was an American motorcycle flat track racer who was one of the first riders from the Southern United States to become nationally known, winning 19 championships in a 10-year career that ended with his death at the peak of his success. In 1910, Walker obtained his first motorcycle, an Excelsior. At 17 he worked as a postal delivery person in Birmingham using an Indian motorcycle for delivering mail. Walker entered his first motorcycle race at the 1912 Alabama State Fair and won the five-mile final.

That night, Daphne decides to give him motorcycling lessons, because she drove a motorcycle when she was five. Shaggy and Tex have their motorcycle race as planned, and Shaggy hears "bad" just in time and almost wins, until a Phantosaur shows up and he thinks in his mind that the monster must think it's so "bad," which is enough to make him cowardly again and get chased, but still miraculously wins the race. Eventually, they figure out that there were two phantosaurs and they were robots.

Carrasco moved to RW Racing in 2014 but her season ended early due to sponsorship problems and had an injury-ridden campaign with RBA Racing Team in 2015. In 2016, she struggled in the FIM CEV Moto2 European Championship with Griful though a switch to ETG Racing in the newly formed Supersport 300 World Championship in 2017 ended with the first victory for a woman in a World Championship solo motorcycle race, in the seventh round at the Algarve International Circuit.

Startline scene in 1986 Oliver's Mount is an area of high ground overlooking Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. It offers impressive views of the town, a tribute monument to the war dead, camping and caravanning at selected times of the year, 10 football pitches, 1 rugby league pitch, in the past a small school, and a cafe, but may be primarily known for its motorcycle races (however, cars have raced here twice, in 1955 and 1956). Oliver's Mount first held a motorcycle race in 1946, and continues to hold motorcycle circuit racing today, and also holds car rally and car hill-climb events. The site also hosted a new family friendly music festival from summer 2012.

Last Man Standing is a motorcycle race held annually in Bulcher, Texas, US. The race consists of 300 of the world’s top enduro riders from around the world and they all converge on Bulcher for the Red Bull’s Last Man Standing Enduro event. The race takes place on the Red River Motorcycle Trails course straddling the Texas/Oklahoma border. Located northwest of Dallas/Fort Worth along the Texas-Oklahoma border, the Red River Motorcycle Trails have some of the most challenging terrain in North America for racing Enduro Motorcycles. The event is a carved out 40-mile loop that features steep rocky climbs, descents, boulders the size of cars and forests with trees that one can barely walk through.

The year 1958 started with an ice-race in Thiersee, Tyrol, which he finished in the 125-ccm-class as second behind the Tyrolean Franz Albert; but already in the 175-ccm-race at the same day he beat Albert and crossed the finish line as first.

The following year, she became the first woman to coach a male football (soccer) club in a top-flight continental competition when she managed a team against Guangzhou Evergrande in the AFC Champions League. 2017 – In the 2017 season, Jesse Shofner was selected to the roster for the Nashville Nightwatch, which made her the first female player to make a full season American Ultimate Disc League roster. She scored two goals in the Nashville Nightwatch's first game of the 2017 season, making her the first woman to do so in any American Ultimate Disc League game. 2017 – Ana Carrasco of Spain became the first woman to win an individual world championship motorcycle race, when she won the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship.

She continued to ride well thereafter, scoring points in the next five rounds with 26 accrued. On 17 September, Carrasco was running in the top three and overtook two riders by slipstreaming them on the main straight of the Algarve International Circuit on the final lap to become the first woman to win an individual world championship motorcycle race. She claimed one further points finish at the season-ending round at Circuto de Jerez and tied Dorren Loureiro on points with 59 but placed eighth in the championship standings due to her sole victory. In January 2018, Carrasco was issued a Golden Penguin Award for her 2017 campaign. She changed teams to ride the DS Junior-entered Kawasaki Ninja 400 in 2018.

Another week later, the stud line competition is again on, and Queen and the rest of the Maneaters head off to the runway for another motorcycle race only to discover that an all-male gang are hanging out along the runway. What was supposed to be a fun- spirited race turns into an all-out brawl. Queen and the leader of the male gang, named Joe Boy (John Weymer), fight each other with knives, which leads to a full fight between the sex-crazed nymphs and their macho rivals which ends with the Maneaters being victorious. Ted (Rodney Bedell), an old boyfriend of Karen's, manages to track her down and privately beseeches her to leave the Maneaters and return to normal life, either with or without him.

Finding it difficult to talk in the racially tense atmosphere of Los Angeles, Thompson and Acosta decided to travel to Las Vegas, and take advantage of an assignment by Sports Illustrated to write a 250-word photograph caption on the Mint 400 motorcycle race held there. What was to be a short caption quickly grew into something else entirely. Thompson first submitted to Sports Illustrated a manuscript of 2,500 words, which was, as he later wrote, "aggressively rejected." Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner was said to have liked "the first 20 or so jangled pages enough to take it seriously on its own terms and tentatively scheduled it for publication — which gave me the push I needed to keep working on it", Thompson later wrote.

In the book The Great Shark Hunt, Thompson refers to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as "a failed experiment in the gonzo journalism" he practiced, which was based on William Faulkner's idea that "the best fiction is far more true than any kind of journalism—and the best journalists have always known this". Thompson's style blended the techniques of fictional story-telling and journalism. He called it a failed experiment because he originally intended to record every detail of the Las Vegas trip as it happened, and then publish the raw, unedited notes; however, he revised it during the spring and summer of 1971. For example, the novel describes Duke attending the motorcycle race and the narcotics convention in a few days' time; the actual events occurred a month apart.

The inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP took place 99 years after the previous motorcycle race at the track, in 1909. The first motorsports event at the track consisted of 7 motorcycle races, sanctioned by the Federation of American Motorcyclists (FAM), on August 14, 1909. This was originally planned as a two-day, 15-race program, but ended before the first day was completed, due to concerns over suitability of the track surface for motorcycle use. The Rider with most victories at this grand prix is Marc Márquez with three victories in MotoGP class and two victories in the Moto2, followed by Nicolas Terol with three victories in the 125cc two-stroke class, followed by Dani Pedrosa and Álex Rins with two victories each and all the others have only one victory.

The Audi TT takes its name from the successful motor racing tradition of NSU in the British Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle race. Bill Hickman was already an established stuntman by the time The Wild One was being filmed and his expertise on motorcycles landed him work on the Stanley Kramer production. At some point during the project Hickman was injured and was unable to continue. It is never clear whether he was hurt while filming a stunt for the movie, although one account (by the late Clyde Earl) had him taking a spill in a motorcycle race not connected with the film. However, Hickman is clearly shown in several of the publicity stills from The Wild One. Hickman spent some of these earlier days as driver and friend to James Dean, driving Dean's Ford station wagon towing Dean's famed 550 Spyder nicknamed “Little Bastard”, and often helping and advising him with his driving technique.

Many of the MotoGP riders wore black armbands or placed small #74's on their leathers and bikes at the following race in South Africa to pay tribute to the fallen racer. His teammate, Sete Gibernau, thereafter wore a #74 on his racesuit since winning the race in his memory. There has not been a Grand Prix motorcycle race held at Suzuka following Kato's crash, with safety issues at the facility being cited as the reason. During the 2003 Suzuka 8 Hours race held that July, Honda paid tribute to Kato, a two-time Suzuka winner, by bearing his racing number on the Sakurai Honda bike of Tadayuki Okada and Chojun Kameya (who in Turn 1 crashed on spilt oil on the second lap), along with the bikes of Nicky Hayden and Atsushi Watanabe.

Annie Seel (born 5 September 1968) is a Swedish-born motorcyclist who set a world altitude record for climbing to Mount Everest base camp on a motorcycle. Seel climbed to , breaking the existing unofficial record by more than , using a 20-year-old Honda XL250 fitted with ice tires. This limitation was due to the Nepalese government's ban on the importation of new motorcycles to Nepal. Previously known as an enduro racer and a leading female competitor in the Paris-Dakar Rally, Seel was awarded the Swedish "Adventurer of The Year" award in 2005 for being the first woman to compete in the TSCO Vegas to Reno desert motorcycle race, where she finished as the fifth highest amateur and was FIM first "Ride Green" woman eco-enduro champion in a race for electric motorcycles supporting environmentally responsible motorsports racing.

In 1916, Atlanta officials chose the Lakewood Fairgrounds as the site for agricultural fairs. They built a one-mile (1.6 km) horse racing track around a lake at the fairgrounds. The first events were held at the track on July 4, 1917. After participating in a motorcycle race the company's founder Johann Abt started his racing career and the motorsports career of the company in general. Today Abt Sportsline is one of the most successful motorsports teams and has won several championships in the most important German racing series, like the Super Touring Car Cup (1999), the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM; titles in 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and the ADAC GT Masters (titles in 2009 and 2010). Since 2004 Abt Sportsline is one of the official factory teams of Audi under the name of Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline. The most successful year in motorsports for Abt Sportsline was 2009, receiving honors in three racing series at once: the DTM with Timo Scheider, the ADAC GT Masters with Christian Abt and the ADAC Formel Masters with Daniel Abt.

Instrumentation of a Velocette Thruxton motorcycle Geoff Dodkin and L.Stevens were two well- known specialist motorcycle retailers in the London area offering mechanical upgrades and cycle customising parts backed by their own race experiences. These included nimonic valves, larger lightweight aluminium oil and fuel tanks, seats, smaller megaphone silencers and an alloy top yoke. The Avon race fairing (made by Mitchenall Brothers) was introduced in 1964 in time for the June Isle of Man TT RacesMotorcycle Mechanics, November 1964, "After their successful introduction in the Isle of Man, the new Avon fairings are on sale to the general public.... The fairing is available for Cotton Aermacchi Manx 7R and G50 machines". Accessed 2013-08-05 but the transparent, aerodynamic 'nose-cone' extending over the front race number plate area was soon 'outlawed' by the ACU, the UK motorcycle race-organisation governing body.

A late version of the Alfa Romeo 1750 (winner of the 1938 Circuito Montecarlo) in a Museum The main Italian newspaper of Italian Somaliland, Il Littoriale,Il Littoriale on the Circuit of Mogadiscio at page 5 (in Italian) reported that the first car race circuit of Mogadiscio was held in mid-August 1938. On August 15, 1938, Francesco Saveno, Governor of Italian Somaliland, flagged the start of the first car race, watched by many thousands of people, in the Corso Vittorio Emanuele (now called Somalia Boulevard) in the capital of Italian Somaliland, where the main viewing stands were located. Thousands of Somalis lined the streets of Mogadiscio to watch the first car race in their country. It was then followed by a motorcycle race, involving 250 cc and 350 cc categories, which was won respectively by Girotto on Benelli and by Pontiggia on Guzzi.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a 1.058-mile (1.703 km) oval speedway located in Loudon, New Hampshire which has hosted NASCAR racing annually since the early 1990s, as well as an IndyCar weekend and the oldest motorcycle race in North America, the Loudon Classic. Nicknamed "The Magic Mile", the speedway is often converted into a 1.6-mile (2.6 km) road course, which includes much of the oval. On September 16, Ontario Country District Attorney Michael Tantillo issued a written statement stating that the findings into the investigation of the Tony Stewart incident at Canandaigua Motorsports Park on August 9 would be sent to a grand jury to determine what chargers if any will be filed against Stewart. The statement reads as follows. “Over the past several weeks, I have reviewed with members of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department their investigation, as it progressed, in the Tony Stewart matter.

Hitler turns the first sod at Walserberg, on the left Fritz Todt The construction of the first two sections near Salzburg started a few weeks after the Anschluss annexation of Austria in 1938, as the Nazi authorities had long before set up plans for an eastern continuation of the Reichsautobahn 26 from Munich to Salzburg (the present-day Bundesautobahn 8) towards Linz and Vienna in what was to become the German Ostmark. However, only two sections around Salzburg with a total length of were opened to traffic when works discontinued in 1942 due to World War II. After the war, the interrupted construction works on the third section to Eugendorf were finished, nevertheless, the further continuation could not be resumed under Allied occupation. Between 1947 and 1965 the completed sections northwest of Salzburg were used as a racing track, known as "Little AVUS", the site of an annual motorcycle race, later called Grand Prix of Austria, with racer Helmut Krackowizer among the first winners. April 1970, Ferguson, as Forest Supervisor of the Hoosier National Forest became aware of the unauthorized use of the forest when John Buffalo using his personal 20 acres and without asking for permission or notifying the Forest Service held a 100-mile motorcycle race, the "Buffalo 100", inside the Hoosier National Forest. Ferguson and the district ranger filmed the damage the motorcyclists caused and Ferguson presented the findings facing U.S. parks at two conferences: the 24th Great Lakes Park Training Institute and the 20th Annual Great Lakes District Conference National Park and Recreation Conference in 1970. An interim off-road vehicle policy was established, allowing limited use of them in a small number of approved areas until October 8, 1970 when the Hoosier National Forest was temporarily closed to all ORV use, pending the results of further studies. During this time, Ferguson stepped down as forest supervisor to staff forester and Don Girton was brought in as the new forest supervisor. Despite an incomplete environmental impact statement and public hearings, Hoosier National Forest Supervisor Don Girton made the decision to proceed with a policy of allowing ORV use to take effect as early as September, 1972.
