Unlike tics, stereotypies usually begin before the age of three, involve more of the body, are more rhythmic and less random, and are associated more with engrossment in another activity rather than premonitory urges. Examples of early tics are things like blinking and throat clearing, while arm flapping is a more common stereotypy. Stereotypies do not have the ever-changing, waxing and waning nature of tics, and can remain constant for years.

Live at the Velvet Lounge Volume III review at All About Jazz In an article for the Chicago Reader Bill Meyer notes that "Anderson and Wong have similar tones but contrasting styles: Anderson is more rhythmic and gives each note in his dancing figures an individual emphasis, while Wong works slurs and eerie vocalizations in his horn’s upper register."Meyer, Bill.
With an ERP of 3,000 watts, 95.3 could be reached as far west as Kalamazoo and was changed to a top-40 station as WMKG then switched to WMJC as "Magic 95" these calls came from 94.7 FM in Detroit now WCSX. The ratings proved the best of this frequency has seen. Top-40 powerhouse WKFR was dominant mostly due to its signal on 103.3 FM which reached as far as Jackson to Benton Harbor. In the late 1990s the station began to take a more rhythmic sound similar to how WGRD was in the 1990s.
Telling the stories of the North American lower class, the emerging genre gave a voice to a generation that felt marginalized by society.Hhe The use of social media has also allowed Argentine trap artists to achieve fame and recognition much more quickly than their North American predecessors. One of these artists is Duki, who boasted over 47 million views with his single ‘Si Te Sentís Sola.’ As one of Argentina’s biggest names in trap, Duki combines rhythms found in both reggaetón and rap; his music is a unique blend of trap’s tough original sounds and more rhythmic electronic Latin American genres.
Logo used as "The New Flow 93.5" until 2011 In 2005, the station began to shift towards a more rhythmic direction. In 2007, the station re-branded as The New Flow 93.5, completing its shift to a rhythmic contemporary format. By 2009, with Rogers' launch of KiSS 92.5, CFXJ shifted back towards an urban direction. However, this proved unsuccessful, and many of the adult urban tracks were dropped by March 2010. On June 23, 2010, it was announced that CTVglobemedia's CHUM Radio would acquire the station, subject to CRTC approval; the transaction was approved on December 23.
" Although the album is almost entirely instrumental, "Riversong" features vocals credited to TONTO which were processed through the machine until they resemble "deeply synthesised signals" more than vocals. The influence of science fiction is also present on the album, as is evident by the titles of "Cybernaut", "Jetsex" and "Aurora". The great bell of the Great Lavra Bell Tower was simulated on the album using an analysis by Hermann von Helmholtz. Side one of Zero Time is subtitled "Outside" and contains shorter, more rhythmic material than the second side; Cecil, who is a bass player, felt the rhythmic emphasis was because rhythms are "part of my stock in trade.
Critical response to the album was generally positive. AllMusic's Andy Kellman wrote that "the material, while mostly well- crafted, runs together as a block of slow, serious songs broken up by only a couple brief upswings in energy" and how "Chrisette, naturally, sounds outstanding throughout, as a supernaturally talented vocalist whose songs are nonetheless easily relatable to anyone going through a breakup—or, to a significantly lesser extent here, newfound love." He also felt that the album "could have really used more rhythmic punch than a token throwback strutter." Maiya Norton of Vibe commented on how her album gained some edge, expressing some anger and heartbreak.
The debut single "Je veux te voir" was a humorous reply to the misogynist lyrics of some French rappers, especially Cuizinier of TTC. For Safari Disco Club, they retained the sound of Pop Up while incorporating more rhythmic drums into the production, such as Caribbean influences and new wave influences in the synthesizers. Budet described it as a marriage between "hotter rhythms and cooler synthesizer", highlighting the sense of humor and melancholy coexisting in the lyrics as well. The melancholy was attributed to Yelle having toured for three years for their first album and having that experience abruptly end to begin work on their next album.
McGuire played on The Honor System's debut album Single File and subsequent EP 100% Synthetic. Whereas vocalist Dan Hanaway tended to play lower and more rhythmic parts, McGuire typically contributed higher-register arpeggios and leads, frequently featuring bending, sliding and double-stops. However, neither guitarist was limited to lead or rhythm; trading and interweaving of guitar parts played a large part in the band's sound. Nolan left the band some time before their second album, The Rise And Run, and was replaced by Tyler Wiseman, whose arrival heralded a shift of the band's sound in a heavier direction, although the interlinked guitar parts remained a key feature.
Through the 1980s and 1990s, KZZU aired a mainstream top 40 format. As the 1990s went on, the format shifted toward a more rhythmic contemporary direction with a slight focus on Hip Hop artists from the inland Northwest. In the early 2000s, changing tastes towards rock music and increased competition caused KZZU to move more towards a rock-leaning Top 40 as hip hop music fell to the lower end of its playlist. In its last year as "93 Zoo FM", the station was noted in having an all-female DJ line up with the exception of Rick Dees and Hollywood Hamilton on Sundays.
The Peruvian researcher Castro Nué has dealt with the origin of certain dances, and maintains that the Marinera has its origin in the Zamacueca or Mozamala. This dance of manners probably originates in the North Coast of Peru, La Libertad region. In its origin it derives from dances of European, Andean, and African origins, that were typically danced in the Peruvian coast. The northern version is more lively, moving and played on trumpets as well, although in Lima, the Zamacueca has more African influence and the guitar playing style is sweeter and more rhythmic, that is, contrasted with the northern version which is more "agitanada" and "mestiza".
The duo wrote three songs while touring in support of their debut album Felt Mountain, but decided to take their work in a different direction with more rhythmic music. Goldfrapp chose to record in a studio in a Bohemian area of Bath, England, because they needed a place to put their equipment and start working. The band began working on the album in January 2002 with a list of songs they wanted to try to record, such as a disco song with only string instruments. The studio's walls were covered in neon lights and Alison Goldfrapp used them to write down her song ideas.
On July 4, 2011, began a new programming under the name of "HOT 102", leaving behind the brand "Toca De To'". The new format of the station is an American CHR, featuring a heavily Rhythmic/Dance-leaning direction but includes Pop songs. They are the only Top 40 in Puerto Rico to have a format consisting of English-language hit music. In August 2011 and after 102.5 FM change its name to Hot 102, 107.3 FM adopted again the brand "Toca De To" but this time as a slogan. In September 2011, WTOK began to shift from a Top 40/CHR direction to a more Rhythmic/Dance-based approach.
Since the station rebranding as 101.5 Energy FM in early 2010, most of the rhythmic tracks returned in order to go up against hot adult contemporary radio station CIGY-FM, which plays more classic hits instead of rhythmic content. On August 17, 2010, CKCE relaunched as Kool 101.5; the format remained Hot AC, but phased out a majority of the pop-rock hits, and began leaning rhythmic again. It continued to play pop-rock tracks for a time, but as of 2013, its playlist has become more Rhythmic/Dance driven with pop-rock product notably getting less airplay, in part due to increased competition in the market.
New automation equipment allowed the station to run 24/7 without the need of a night disc jockey, which stood in contrast to the operations of the early 1990s when the station would sign-off at 1 a.m. and return to the air at 5 a.m. The music mix also changed slightly, as The Peak became a somewhat more conventional and more mainstream CHR station, though still playing more rhythmic material and being faster on new music than WKHQ. Despite excellent ratings and the battle with 106 KHQ still in swing, the station's Grand Rapids-based management decided in 2000 to make the station Hot AC, dumping most of their rap/hip-hop tracks.
The station changed its call letters to WPRT to match the "Party" handle. In 2009, WPRT began to add more rhythmic pop titles to its playlist, and by June shifted directions to Rhythmic Top 40, thus resulting in Mediabase and Nielsen BDS moving the station to their respective Rhythmic reporting panels the following July, even though non-Rhythmic flavored pop artists like Taylor Swift were still also played, a trend that other Rhythmics on the panel (like KLUC-FM/Las Vegas and WJFX/Ft. Wayne) were also doing due to a changing taste among listeners. Because of its Rhythmic direction, WPRT now took on Urban Contemporary rival WUBT and Mainstream Top 40 rivals WRVW and WNFN.
She also used a typical costume of rumba dancers, a dress featuring a tightly fitted bodice with a deeply ruffled skirt, to set the scene for more rhythmic, celebratory poems. She designed her sets and chose the accompanying music, becoming an artistic director of each performance, rather than simply a performer. Cosme was trained in the tradition of poseía negra, a specific type of recitation of poetry which is tied to the African experience, with particular attention to the irony of blacks' peculiar societal position in the wake of slavery. Originating in the Antilles, the genre is often synonymous with Afro-Cuban poetry, though there were numerous artists from other islands, such as Puerto Rico.
While some of Mitchell's most popular songs were written on piano, almost every song she composed on the guitar uses an open, or non- standard, tuning; she has written songs in some 50 tunings, playing what she has called "Joni's weird chords". The use of alternative tunings allows guitarists to produce accompaniment with more varied and wide-ranging textures. Her right-hand picking/strumming technique has evolved over the years from an initially intricate picking style, typified by the guitar songs on her first album, to a looser and more rhythmic style, sometimes incorporating percussive "slaps". In 1995, Mitchell's friend Fred Walecki, proprietor of Westwood Music in Los Angeles, developed a solution to alleviate her continuing frustration with using multiple alternative tunings in live settings.
Their new material signalled a change in the band's sound with songs becoming more pop-oriented, including the group-written track "Follow You Follow Me". Collins recalled it was the only song on the album written from scratch during rehearsals. Rutherford felt comfortable taking on lead guitar duties in addition to his usual rhythm and bass roles, although the band had considered auditioning replacement guitarists or using a session guitarist on the album. Collins later saw the album as "a very vocal, solid album" that lacked more rhythmic tracks like "Los Endos" or songs from Wind & Wuthering, as coming up with ideas on the drums while living in his flat in Ealing with his family was difficult. ...And Then There Were Three... was released in March 1978.
On January 19, 2010, B94 (93.7 FM) changed again, this time to sports talk as KDKA-FM ("93.7 The Fan"). CBS Radio also announced that they would merge Star with B94 to bring B94's music and some on-air personalities onto Star for listeners to continue to enjoy. In doing so, WZPT eliminated the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s tracks in favor of Adult Top 40 music, playing current and recent current music only. Star added more rhythmic artists such as Lady Gaga, Kesha, and Timbaland in addition to artists such as Shinedown, Kelly Clarkson and John Mayer. On January 5, 2011, CBS Radio reacquired the WBZZ calls (which were approved on January 19, 2011) from the former WQSH-Albany, New York and plans to use the calls to replace the WZPT calls.
As mentioned above, WKST's musical direction had always favored Rhythmic and/or Dance hits since its 2000 debut, although at times it will add artists like The Lumineers to stay within the Mainstream realm. With B94 changing formats after Valentine's Day 2010, WKST-FM became the only top 40 station in Pittsburgh, and with competition coming from Adult Top 40 WBZZ (whose direction leans towards Top-40 and Rhythmic Contemporary) and a new version of WAMO (via a FM translator, as the AM is a daytimer; now a full-blown Rhythmic Top 40), WKST has continued to add more Rhythmic hits to distinguish itself from the two stations. In addition, WKST is the Pittsburgh affiliate for On Air with Ryan Seacrest weekdays, the iHeartRadio Countdown on Saturday mornings and American Top 40 on Sunday mornings.
In the late 2010's, a further modernization of the format focusing on pop, rhythmic, and dance hits from the 1990s and 2000s began to emerge, with examples such as Edmonton's CKPW-FM (which initially branded as Power 107 in reference to a heritage CHR station that once operated in the market, but was forced to rebrand the station as Play 107 after trademark disputes with the station's owner), which promoted acts such as the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, NSYNC, and Rihanna as core artists (while also featuring some CHR recurrents), and WKAF in Boston (which is more rhythmic-based, and includes occasional songs from the 1980's, closer- resembling a modernized version of rhythmic oldies). Harvard Broadcasting and iHeartMedia both used the term "rhythmic classic hits" to refer to this format.
In March 2008, The Breeze shifted its format again, to a Modern AC sound, playing currents and recurrents from 3 Doors Down, Ferras, Sara Bareilles, Amy Winehouse, Plain White Ts, O.A.R. and Coldplay. The station eliminated most of their softer titles from acts such as Kenny G, James Taylor, Carpenters and George Benson. On September 28, 2009, the station shifted towards a Top 40 (CHR) format, renamed The New Z93 - Today's Best Hits, complete with new imaging and some jock changes. The station now incorporates more rhythmic and pop material, particularly during the evening hours, from artists such as Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, R. Kelly, The Black Eyed Peas and T.I.. With the format shift, the station did not go all-Christmas for the 2009 holiday season, leaving WLXT as the sole all- Christmas station in the market (save for WLXT's Dial Global America's Best Music sister station WMBN).
In addition, CISS-FM was more rhythmic-leaning than most Top 40 stations due to the market not having an urban or rhythmic station until 2001, when CFXJ-FM signed on the air with an urban format. Station personalities included Jay Michaels, first paired with Daryn Jones as "Mad Dog and Daryn" and then with Billie Holiday in mornings as Mad Dog and Billie (frequently accompanied by voice actress Stephanie Beard as "Suga BayBee"), Kris James (a re-hired veteran of the country format, and temporarily the CHR format's first morning host) middays, Tarzan Dan afternoons, Cory Kimm and Taylor Kaye evenings, and Slim hosting "Slim Jams", a slow jam/R&B; program in overnights. By 2002, somewhat ironically, the station moved to take CFXJ's turf with a complete shift to a rhythmic contemporary format billed as "Toronto's Hip Hop and R&B.;" The station hired local urban flavoured talent DJX and Haddy, Axel, Kwame, DJ Baby Yu and RG.
Interview with Tony James, April 2002, for the 'Generation X Anthology' (2003). On commercial sale in October 1980 as a pre- release single from the new band's forthcoming long-player Kiss Me Deadly (1981), 'Dancing with Myself' was a retail failure, reaching only #62 in the UK Singles Chart. In late 1981 Idol, now a solo artist after Gen X had broken up, had Forsey remix the record for its release as a single in the United States, fading down the guitar(s) and bass tracks from their dominance in the 1980 U.K. release and accentuating the vocal and percussion tracks to produce a more rhythmic sound for the American commercial market. It became his first hit single in the United States and launched his career there, two versions being issued: the 3:20 single version (which was later included on Idol's 11 of the Best compilation) and the 4:50 extended version that appeared on Idol's Don't Stop EP.
Bruno Kramm and Stefan Ackermann met in Bayreuth, Germany, in 1989 at a nightclub called the "Crazy Elephant." Bruno had already been involved in several band projects, and after some hours of socializing the two decided to begin a project together. Bruno Kramm at the 10. Nocturnal Culture Night festival (2015) In 1989, the members of Das Ich founded the Danse Macabre record label which released their first EP, Satanische Verse, and their first album, Die Propheten. Die Propheten was released in Germany in 1991 and was reissued in the US in 1997, selling over thirty thousand copies. Their second album, Staub was released in 1994 and charted in Germany for 11 weeks. The band played many live shows in Europe but made its first US tour in June 1995 and a second, longer US tour of 13 shows in 1997. In 1998, the album Egodram, saw the group moving towards a more rhythmic, industrial dance- oriented sound, resulting in the club singles "Kindgott" and "Destillat".
Like the German band Einstürzende Neubauten, another Some Bizzare label signing with whom they are often compared, Test Dept used unconventional instruments such as scrap metal and industrial machinery as sound sources; however, Test Dept's use of these objects was far more rhythmic than was Neubauten's, and was often accompanied by film and slide shows. The group were noted for large-scale events in unusual site-specific locations, such as Bishopsbrige Maintenance depot at Paddington Station, Arch 69 and Titan Arch near Waterloo station, Cannon Street station, Stirling Castle and the disused St Rollox Railway Works in Glasgow. The band's album The Unacceptable Face of Freedom was praised by a music reviewer for The New York Times, claiming the album was notable for a "sophisticated use of sound-collage techniques and the helter-skelter momentum of its cyclical rhythms"."The Pop Life: British Rock Bands add a message to the music" by Robert Palmer. The New York Times, 18 June 1986, Section C, pg. 18.
Göransson used the base talking drum rhythm, 808 rhythm, solo talking drum, and "T'Challa" talking drum motif as the primary rhythm for T'Challa in the score. On top of this rhythm, Coogler and Göransson chose to use horns to make the character's theme sound more royal, with Göransson writing music for the horns that he felt was more rhythmic than melodic and allowed them to be interpreted as coming from the rhythm of the talking drums rather than a traditional western theme with drums in the background. Göransson did write a specific six-note melody for T'Challa, also played on the brass, which serves as the final piece of the character's main theme and also is used as a main theme for the film during scene transitions and for driving the overall story forward. After hearing a musician in Senegal named Amadou Ba playing a tambin, or Fula flute, Göransson told him the backstory of villain Killmonger in the film and Ba played some music in response to the story.
Still, over the years since its inception, the genre has grown and evolved in its position between traditional R&B; outlets (who claim that the Rhythmic contemporary format does not target or serve the African-American community properly) and the traditional Top 40 hit stations. However, both R&B; and mainstream top 40 outlets have taken cues from the Rhythmic contemporary format through the years; as of 2018, the cycle continues to dominate the current Top 40/CHR playlist as more Rhythmic and EDM songs are making their way onto the Mainstream chart. An offshoot format of rhythmic contemporary is rhythmic adult contemporary, which targets an adult audience with a mix of current rhythmic hits and gold tracks (often termed "Throwbacks") which may date as far back as the 1980s or even the disco era of the 1970s. As with Rhythmic CHR, Rhythmic AC may vary depending on the market as to how much hip- hop and R&B; product are included in the playlist; for example, the current WKTU (one of the late 1990s pioneers of the recent crop of Rhythmic AC stations) leans toward pop and dance, while WBQT in Boston is very hip-hop heavy.
Acoustic Guitar, no. 33, September 1995. Back on her own after her divorce from McCoy, Minnie began to experiment with different styles and sounds. She recorded four sides for Bluebird Records in July 1935, returned to the Vocalion label in August, and then recorded another session for Bluebird in October, this time accompanied by Casey Bill Weldon, her first husband. By the end of the 1930s, in addition to her output for Vocalion, she had recorded nearly 20 sides for Decca and eight sides for Bluebird. She also toured extensively in the 1930s, mainly in the South. In 1938, Minnie returned to recording for the Vocalion label, this time accompanied by Charlie McCoy, Kansas Joe's brother, on mandolin. Around this time she married the guitarist and singer Ernest Lawlars, known as Little Son Joe. They began recording together in 1939, with Son adding a more rhythmic backing to Minnie's guitar. They recorded for Okeh Records in the 1940s and continued to record together through the decade. By 1941 Minnie had started playing electric guitar,Spottswood, Richard K. (1993). "Country Girls, Classic Blues, and Vaudeville Voices".
On March 14, 2014, the station started repeatedly playing Nelly's "Hot in Herre" uninterrupted, reportedly an act of stunting to promote their branding change to "Hot 105.7." On March 17, 2014, Hot 105.7 FM started broadcasting at 5:05pm, beginning with a "history lesson" about the first "Hot" station that covered the San Jose area from 1988 to 1995, followed by the return of former KMEL personality Chuy Gomez, and aired a Mix Show. Programmed as a Rhythmic Top 40 with a focus on hit-driven hip hop and R&B;, KVVF's target is a bilingual and younger Hispanic audience (mostly around the Southern portion of the Bay Area surrounding Santa Clara County), patterned after sister station KBBT in San Antonio. In a statement from Station Content Director Mark Arias, “We just feel like The Bay Area has been asking for something new and fresh. It’s a format they call Top 40/Rhythmic with a little bit of hip-hop, R&B; and Top 40 crossed-over.” In March 2016, after two years of modest ratings (it barely registered in Nielsen's San Francisco ratings) and difficulty competing with KMEL and KRBQ, KVVF de-emphasized its hip hop and R&B; direction and added more rhythmic friendly pop hits.
