Monkeyshines were a series of experimental short silent films made to test the original cylinder format of the Kinetoscope, and are believed to be the first films shot in the United States. Monkeyshines, No. 1 was shot by William K. L. Dickson and William Heise for the Edison labs. Scholars have differing opinions on whether the first was shot in June 1889 starring John Ott or sometime between November 21–27, 1890 starring G. Sacco Albanese.Kino Video.

These films were intended to be internal tests of the new camera system, and were not created for commercial use; their rise to prominence resulted much later due to work by film historians. All three films show a blurry figure in white standing in one place making large gestures and are only a few seconds long. Monkeyshines No. 3 has disappeared and may be lost.

Part of the cast was intimidated by Welles' temperamental attitude. The conflicts between Welles and Ritt attracted media attention. Immediately after filming was completed, during an interview with Life, Welles explained that the cause of his behavior was that he did not know what kind of "monkeyshines" his co- stars would be or the "caprices" they would receive from him. He also stated that they overcame the differences and completed the film.

Beppo lived in a jungle and handled himself quite well, since as a Kryptonian monkey he had the usual array of super-powers. One day Beppo, using his telescopic vision, spotted Kal-El, now a toddler living in Smallville with the Kents. Beppo quickly flew to Smallville and, being a monkey, secretly caused all sorts of havoc. Ma and Pa Kent initially blamed baby Clark for Beppo's super-powered monkeyshines, but they soon discovered the truth.

Since 1982 he worked for Dr. Russell Mittermeier, chairman of the IUCN/SSC Primate Specialist Group and president of Conservation International, and for Dr. Anthony Rylands, deputy chairman of the IUCN/SSC Primate Specialist Group. After the founding of Conservation International in 1987, Nash became its scientific illustrator in 1989. In 1990 he married Luci Betti who also works as an illustrator. Nash provided illustrations for numerous books, scientific articles, and conservation education materials, including Monkeyshines on the Primates: A Study of Primatology (1994), Lemurs of Madagascar (1994), Primates of West Africa: Pocket Identification Guide (2010) and the primates volume of the Handbook of the Mammals of the World (2013).
