The case of Alexander Taran caused a great resonance throughout Russia. Residents from Alexandrovskoye, where Taran lived until his arrest, expressed mixed feelings towards their fellow villager. Some supported him for attempting retribution, while others condemned him for the bloody mob law. Representatives of the government also responded to the case.

Five White judges of the Ontario Court of Appeal heard Phillips's appeal and Attorney General Price's counter- appeal on 16 April. The court did not look favourably upon the appeal and declared they would "not tolerate any group of men attempting to administer a self-made law". The court characterized the Klan's actions as "mob law" and found Phillips guilty; he served three months in prison.

In Grinnell's letters, he described a chaotic scene as "the entire eight miles there is scarcely one hundred feet without one or more tents on it ... our claims are now covered with beach jumpers and we cannot get them off. Several men were eventually convicted, but given only a small fine. On appeal, Mulock described the fine as a "travesty of justice", and replaced it with a three-month prison term. Mulock reported himself as an ardent abolitionist in his youth, and as a politician he actively campaigned in black communities, but in his ruling Mulock denounced only mob law, not the underlying racial issues. This ruling marked the start of a significant decline in Klan activity in Canada.

The ACAL however, was recognized and supported by W.E.B Du Bois, one of the founders of the NAACP. Du Bois, along with liberal attorney Bartley Crum, joined Robeson in his "crusade call" and endorsed the ACAL campaign. In support of the ACAL, Du Bois stated to the NAACP that "the fight against mob law is the monopoly of no one person, no one organization." Along with Du Bois, Ida B. Wells used journalistic approaches to condemn lynchings.

Whatever the practical activities of its local groups, the official position of the Zemlya i Volya organization endorsed the tactic of terrorism, which the lead article in the first issue of the party's newspaper characterized as a "system of mob law and self-defense" put into action by a "protective detachment" of the liberation movement.Quoted in Offord, The Russian Revolutionary Movement in the 1880s, p. 24. The group also rationalized political assassination as "capital punishment" and "self- defense" for "crimes" against the nation. The organization began to look at regicide as the highest manifestation of political action, culminating in a December 1879 assassination attempt on Tsar Alexander II by the Zemlevolets A. K. Soloviev (1846–1879).

Lewis claimed 311 as his all-time favorite band after his performance of "All Mixed Up". Responding to a viewer question on March 13, 2007, he had also confessed his love of "underground hip hop, electronic music" such as Common Market and Panda Conspiracy, with an addition of The Mob Law, which in Lewis' opinion, "should be signed to a major label". While being the last two contestants waiting for the results on May 2, Lewis and Chris Richardson answered Ryan Seacrest's question about their close relationship, saying that they are best friends. Lewis has "Chris Sligh, Rudy Cárdenas", contestants from the sixth season of American Idol, listed as his own "American idols" on his profile on American Idol official website, while Sligh and Cárdenas also have Lewis on their lists.

After graduating, Wilmshurst started working in news and current affairs, then worked for a number of years as a researcher and director in formatted factual programmes, before persuading Channel 4 to send him to Las Vegas to make an authored documentary about a mafia lawyer. Mob Law was joint runner-up for the Joris Ivens Award at IDFA and won awards at the Las Vegas and San Francisco film festivals. He went on to make feature documentaries collaborating with novelist Luke Rhinehart and comedian Frank Skinner, before directing two separate year-long, three-part series for Channel 4: White Tribe (with Darcus Howe) and The Gambler (with Jonathan Rendall). He then wrote and directed a handful of dramadocs: about cocaine dealing; pseudocide; the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge; alcoholism in the workplace; and being kidnapped by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, telling the story of Chris Moon.
