Memory erasure has also been a common topic of interest in science fiction and other fiction. Several notable comics, TV shows and movies feature mindwipes, including Telefon, Total Recall, Men in Black, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Black Mirror, The Bourne Identity, and Dollhouse. Novels that feature memory erasure include The Invincible by Stanisław Lem and some of the Harry Potter novels (including Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) by J. K. Rowling, also The Giver by Lois Lowry deals with this subject. Several works by Philip K. Dick are about mindwipes, including "Paycheck" and "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" (inspiration for Total Recall).

"Bloodties" is a 1993 Avengers/X-Men crossover that celebrates the 30th anniversary of both franchises. It is a direct sequel to the X-Men "Fatal Attractions" storyline, in which Charles Xavier mindwipes Magneto. The story of "Bloodties" details a civil war between the human and mutant populations of Genosha, incited by Magneto's former protogé Fabian Cortez. Unaware of Magneto's incapacitation, Cortez attempts to shield himself from his former master's wrath by kidnapping Magneto's granddaughter Luna.

Arriving via Shi'ar teleportation device, the team boards Avalon and disables the station with a virus created by Beast. Magneto engages the X-Men in battle, and in a fit of rage after nearly being gutted by Wolverine, tears the adamantium out of Wolverine's skeleton. Professor X, enraged by Magneto's actions, mindwipes Magneto, leaving him in a coma. The X-Men race back to Earth to treat Wolverine, while Colossus stays in a devastated Avalon to care for the comatose Magneto.

Jimmy's mutant powers are similar to those of his father, the Ultimate Wolverine. For instance, he possesses an accelerating healing factor that allows him to regenerate damaged or destroyed tissue in a relatively brief period of time. While the full extent of his healing factor is unknown, it is possible Jimmy can withstand various wounds, diseases, drugs, and toxins. In addition, his healing factor makes him extremely immune to telepathic assault, probing, and mindwipes, from the likes of powerful telepaths like Jean Grey and Miss Sinister.
