Jean-Michel Ribes (born 15 December 1946 in Paris) is a French playwright, screenwriter, theatre director, film maker and actor. Since 2002 he has been the managing director of the Théâtre du Rond-Point. Between 1982 and 1984 Ribes had directed Merci Bernard and since 1988 works on Palace. In 2008, Ribes had directed Batailles which he co-wrote with Roland Topor and next year became a director of the Un garçon impossible, a play by Petter S. Rosenlund and Roland Dubillard's Les Diablogues.

In Luxembourg they were joined on stage by the American jazz musician Sahib Shihab on flute. Performing 10th on the night, following Austria's Udo Jürgens singing "Merci Chérie" and preceding Spain's Raphael with "Yo soy aquél", it finished 2nd with 16 points in a field of 18, making it Sweden's best showing in the Contest until ABBA won with "Waterloo" in 1974, which was sung in English.

It was partly an attempt by Wilson to push Durutti Column band leader Vini Reilly into spending more than three days recording an album, although the album was recorded in only five days. An incised slab with a priest, which was removed from Castledillon, is now in the visitor centre in Kildare town. The stone has been damaged and although the inscription ICI GiST DEV DE SA ALLME EIT MERCI is visible, it is a generic phrase which translates as "Here Lies (name illegible) God Have Mercy on His Soul." The absence of a crosier has been noted to suggest he was not a bishop, as accorded in folklore, and may have been abbot in the friary of St Wolstan’s four miles to the north east, perhaps after it was dissolved in 1541. The left hand of the carved figure carries a reliquary suspended around the neck and hangs below a brooch like object at the throat.

As the opening of the final, the Te Deum was performed by the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra from the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace, and included a video taking viewers on a journey through Austria's cities and landscapes to the host venue. The overture featured violinist Lidia Baich, winner of the Eurovision Young Musicians 1998, who performed live on stage an excerpt of Austria's winning song "Merci, Chérie" in tribute to Udo Jürgens. Immediately afterwards The ESC Vienna All-Stars, consisting of Conchita, the Vienna Boys' Choir, multinational Suparar Children's Choir, rapper Left Boy, and the contest’s presenters, jointly performed the official anthem of the 2015 contest, "Building Bridges" accompanied by the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Peter Pejtsik. In total, more than 200 artists were part of the opening act.

Alleluia Cross and Outdoor Altar The Georgia granite Alleluia Cross and Outdoor Altar are located 65 feet east of the eastern wall of the church on the west side of the parking lot overlooking the cemetery and Dixie Highway below and the Indian River to the east. They were given by Wallace E. Conkling (1896–1979), retired bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, in memory of his wife, Constance Lillian (Sowby) Conkling, who died on March 9, 1969, and whose ashes were interred beneath the altar. The east side of the cross is inscribed vertically "ALLELUIA", while the west side is inscribed "JESU MERCI." Bishop Conkling was bishop in residence at All Saints' for many years and after he died on August 27, 1979, his ashes were also interred under the outdoor altar.

Frédéric Auburtin was born and grew up in Marseille, where he studied music (piano, drums) and literature before turning to the cinema in the early 80s. He made his debut as an assistant director in the film Rouge midi, directed by Robert Guédiguian. In the 80s and 90s he worked as an assistant director in several movies and with several directors, including Maurice Pialat (Under the Sun of Satan), Luigi Comencini (La Bohème), Richard Heffron (La Révolution française), Bertrand Blier (Merci la vie), Jean-Jacques Annaud (The Lover), Claude Berri (Germinal and Lucie Aubrac), Jean-Paul Rappeneau (The Horseman on the Roof) and Randall Wallace (The Man in the Iron Mask). In 1999, he debuted as a director, co-directing Un pont entre deux rives with Gérard Depardieu, for which he also composed the soundtrack.

Now in promiscuous Amsterdam, with its easy access to drugs and sex ("Amsterdam"), the Youth experiences his first sense of acceptance when a local squatter, Marianna, unquestioningly accepts him into her apartment ("Keys").

The modern Order of Saint Lazarus claims to maintain the spirit and history of the medieval Order of Saint Lazarus and claims a historical continuity to the French branch of the Medieval Order through the 17-19th century Royal Military and Hospitaller Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem united under the fons honorum of the Holy See until the publication of the Papal Bull De Equestribus Pontificus by Pope Pius X in 1905 which defined the future Pontifical Orders without formally abolishing any of the other previously extant orders. The chant is also common at WWE events taking place in Europe, Montreal or in the U.S. For example, the chant was heard at the April 8th, 2013 edition of WWE Raw at the Izod Center. The chant was also repeatedly heard throughout the May 4, 2015 telecast of WWE Raw that took place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, as well as the April 30, 2018 telecast of WWE Raw that also emanated from the Bell Centre, when wrestler Seth Rollins, who was the WWE Intercontinental Champion at the time, was greeted by huge cheers and an Olé, Olé, Olé chant before thanking the crowd with “Merci beaucoup” (French for “thank you very much”).

The book has a large cast of characters including Martin's seven siblings and his mother, Carmen; a missionary to Bolivia, Gus; Cheryl's boyfriend back in the United States, Jonathan; Merci, Cheryl's half-Bolivian and half-Canadian boss; and the Lilas, Cheryl's host family in Bolivia. Bolivia sparks the taste for adventure in the two main characters and Martin finds himself experimenting with indigenous hallucinogenic plants while Cheryl flits from one personal relationship to another. When Martin experiences permanent hallucinations after a trip to the Brazilian jungle to try a local drug, caapi, (also known as a “plant teacher” because it is derived from a plant and supposedly imparts spiritual insight), he blames his visions on the caapi. Little does he know that he has actually permanently infected himself by drinking from a potion bottle he purchased at Lake Titicaca made from vegetation from the syringe- infested swamp.

Megane tells the story of Taeko (Satomi Kobayashi), an uptight city woman, vacationing on a quaint Japanese island (later identified by the director as Yoron Island, Okinawa). Upon arriving at the Hamada Inn, she meets the eccentric inhabitants of the island: Sakura (Masako Motai), a mysterious older woman who runs a shaved ice stand on the island during the spring season, but accepts no money; Haruna (Mikako Ichikawa), a biology teacher who sighs about the lack of cute boys in her class; and Yuji the innkeeper (Ken Mitsuishi) who draws confusing maps and boasts the lack of cell phone reception at his hotel. The first morning of her vacation Taeko is woken by a kneeling Sakura at her bedside, who greets her with a cheerful Ohayo gozaimasu (good morning) and invites her to join in the island's morning aerobics. Taeko declines but later wanders down to the beach to watch the islanders performing what Yuji calls their "merci" exercises, a light aerobics program invented by Sakura.

The earliest known depiction of an individual with syphilis is Albrecht Dürer's Syphilitic Man, a woodcut believed to represent a Landsknecht, a Northern European mercenary. The myth of the femme fatale or "poison women" of the 19th century is believed to be partly derived from the devastation of syphilis, with classic examples in literature including John Keats' La Belle Dame sans Merci. Poet Sebastian Brandt in 1496 wrote a poem titled De pestilentiali Scorra sive mala de Franzos which explains the spread of the disease across the European continent. Brandt also created artistic creations showing religious and political views of syphilis, especially with a work showing Saint Mary and Jesus throwing lightning to punish or cure those afflicted by syphilis, and he also added King Maximilian I in the work, being rewarded by Mary and Jesus for his work against the immoral disease, to show the strong relationship between church and state during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

She portrayed a manic and homicidal post-office worker in Claude Chabrol's La Cérémonie (1995), with Sandrine Bonnaire, and continued her cinematic relationship with Chabrol in Rien ne va plus (1997), and Merci pour le Chocolat (2000). She also appeared in Michael Haneke's The Piano Teacher (2001), which is based on a novel of the same name (Die Klavierspielerin) by Austrian author and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2004, Elfriede Jelinek. In this film, she played a piano teacher named Erika Kohut, who becomes involved with a young pianist and ladies' man, Walter Klemmer. Regarded as one of her most impressive turns, her performance netted the 2001 Best Actress prize in Cannes. In 2004, she starred in Christophe Honoré's Ma Mère as Hélène with Louis Garrel.

Another area is the "Georges Méliès space", which honors him as a magician and as the father of film special effects. Magic shows are conducted daily, and the building is open daily during the tourist season.

In 1837 his son-in-law and biographer J. G. Lockhart reluctantly half-agreed with those critics who, he tells us, thought that the German influences on Scott did not suit the poem's Celtic theme, and that the original legend was more moving than Scott's elaboration of it. Nevertheless, some 19th century critics rated it very high among Scott's poems. In 1897 the critic George Saintsbury judged “Glenfinlas” and “The Eve” to be the poems in which Scott first found his true voice, though he preferred “The Eve”. 20th and 21st century critics have generally been more severe. Among Scott's biographers, John Buchan thought it “prentice work, full of dubious echoes and conventional artifice”, S. Fowler Wright found the ballad unsatisfactory because the original story has too little variety of incident, and Edgar Johnson thought the poem too slow, its language sometimes over-luscious, and the intended horror of its climax unachieved. Recently the critic Terence Hoagwood complained that the poem is less vivid than “The Eve”, and its morality (like that of “Christabel” and “La Belle Dame sans Merci”) is misogynistic.

In February 2019, Hénin was targeted by a cyberbullying operation organised by far-Right accounts. Hénin had reported Patrick Jardin, father of a victim of the November 2015 Paris attack, after Jardin had first demanded French Jihadists captured in Syria be summarily shot instead of brought back to France to stand trial, and then, in a tweet of 31 January, demanded their children be killed as well: "Then let us kill their children as well, that is where we should start" ("Alors tuons aussi leurs enfants, d’ailleurs on devrait commencer par là"). Nicolas Hénin reacted by calling upon witnesses to report the tweet to Twitter moderators and to Pharos, the French authority where illegal activity on the Internet can be reported: "Please report this account to Twitter and Pharos. Having lost a child in terrible circumstances is no excuse for such a torrent of hate" ("Merci de signaler ce compte à Twitter et Pharos. Avoir perdu son enfant dans des conditions terribles n’est pas une excuse pour déverser un tel torrent de haine").

The programme L'Avenir en commun (English: "A Shared Future") was adopted during the Lille convention, attended by just under 1,000 people in Saint-André-lez-Lille on 15/16 October 2016. Several personalities addressed the convention, including former Société Générale trader Jérôme Kerviel, LuxLeaks whistleblower Antoine Deltour, political specialist Paul Ariès, former Malian Minister of Culture Aminata Traoré, and former Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Zoe Konstantopoulou. At this convention, the movement also presented twenty candidates for the French legislative election of June 2017, including Jean-Marie Brom, physicist, research director of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and spokesperson of Sortir du nucléaire; Rémy Garnier, public finance inspector and whistleblower in the Cahuzac affair; Lionel Burriello, leader of the CGT union for the ArcelorMittal steel works in Florange; Mehdi Kémoune, deputy secretary-general of the CGT union for Air France; actress Sophie De La Rochefoucauld; Marie-Hélène Bourlard, trade unionist featured in the movie Merci patron!; Olivia Cattan, journalist and founder of the association SOS Autisme France; and Nathalie Seguin, trade unionist and member of the French Communist Party (PCF).

Stanford composed this work in 1877, shortly after returning to Trinity College, Cambridge, from a period abroad studying composition in Germany. It is one of several works he completed that year, the others being settings of Psalm 46 and Keats poem, "La Belle Dame sans Merci", a now lost Overture for the Three Choirs Festival, and his first piece of chamber music, a cello sonata in A major. The first performance, with the composer at the piano and Ludwig Straus as the violinist, took place on 18 May 1877 at a concert organized by the Cambridge University Musical Society; the work's London premiere with the same performers took place on 6 November. Jeremy Dibble writes that the composer's original plan was to have the composition published in the United Kingdom through Novello & Co., but due to the fact that it was uncommon for British firms to publish chamber music at the time, Stanford instead had to locate a German publisher, eventually setting on the Dresden-based firm of Ries & Erler, who published the work as the composer's Opus 11, with a dedication to Ludwig Straus.
