The Communist Youth League was generally seen as a "training ground" for cadres in preparation for prominent positions in the Communist Party of China, and therefore a career in government. Maud Wood Park, 1921 Maud Wood Park founded the College Equal Suffrage League in 1900 with Inez Haynes in order to get younger, more well educated women involved in the suffrage movement. Their particular aim was to get college alumnae to form chapters and organize women at their alma maters. In 1904, Harriot Eaton Stanton Blatch and Caroline Lexow invited them to set up college leagues throughout New York state. In 1906, the National American Woman Suffrage Association invited the College Equal Suffrage League to initiate similar organizations throughout the country.

He is known both for his pioneering work litigating biotechnology issues and his work on constitutional and federal regulatory maters.

According to college friend Gary Lucas, a guitarist who went on to collaborate with avant-garde acts like Captain Beefheart, at Yale in the early 1970s he fell in with "lunatic fringe types and free thinkers". Volwiler was an active community leader and philanthropist serving, among others, on the boards of Lake Forest College and the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation. He served on the Board of Regents helping to establish the United States National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland in 1959. He made major philanthropic gifts to his alma maters, Miami University and the University of Illinois. In 1983 he donated $250,000 to Miami University to create a research professorship, the Ernest H. Volwiler Distinguished Research Professor in Chemistry, which has been awarded every three years beginning in 1984.

The Varsity Club formed in the NWA's Jim Crockett Promotions by Kevin Sullivan after he recruited Rick Steiner who was of University of Michigan's and Syracuse University's Mike Rotunda in early 1988. Sheldon entered college at the age of eleven, and at age fourteen he graduated from college summa cum laude. Throughout the entire run of The Big Bang Theory, the college he went to for undergraduate studies had not been revealed, but he always felt it was superior to his fellow Big Bang Theory colleagues' alma maters of Princeton (Leonard), MIT (Howard) and Harvard (Amy); however, it is implied in "The Tam Turbulence" (Season 12, Episode 4) that Sheldon is in fact a Caltech alumnus.

Ruffin was presented two Civilian Service Medal of the U. S. Federal Government for sustained meritorious service: the Department of the Army Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service Medal and the Department of the Army Commander's Award for Civilian Service. Ruffin received top awards from his Alma Maters. In May 2005, Ruffin was inducted into the Alabama A&M; University Alumni Hall of Fame in Science for his lifetime technical contributions to the field of applied science. In July 2005, he was presented the William Hooper Council Alumni Award from the Progressive Alumni Chapter. In April 2003, he was presented the Alumni of Achievement Award from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and in April 2005 the College of Science presented him with the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama presented Ruffin with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Educator Award on April 9, 2009, during the 31st Annual UNCF Salute to Education Gala.

Opus Dei treats membership status of its lay members in a confidential manner, having a stated policy of neither confirming nor denying the membership of Opus Dei until the member in question has publicly acknowledged his or her membership. Opus Dei supporter William O'Connor wrote that a person's spiritual life is a private matter, and that the practice of not divulging membership lists is common to many organizations such as trade unions, hospitals, schools and clubs. He stated that it is part of the secular nature of vocation to Opus Dei that its members do not represent the religious organization which provide them with spiritual instruction, in the same way that professionals do not externally represent their alma maters. According to several journalists who wrote independently on Opus Dei accusations of secrecy come from a clericalist mentality which equates Opus Dei members with monks and priests, the traditional symbols of holiness who are externally identifiable as such.

A school team player for his alma maters Tsukimino Secondary School and Yamato Minami High School, Shimono's ability was recognized when he was one of several young players drafted into Albirex Niigata (S)'s squad during the 2009 S.League, along with Kenji Adachihara, Ryuta Hayashi and Takasuke Goto, while he was playing for the Japan Soccer College in the Hokushin'etsu Football League. This was made possible due to Japan Soccer College's official affiliation with Albirex Niigata (S)'s parent club, Albirex Niigata, and its players are often selected to turn out for the satellite Albirex Niigata (S) squad in the S.League. Shimono made his debut in 2009 for the White Swans under then- Albirex coach, Naoki Naruo, in a match against Geylang United on 17 February 2009 which the Eagles won with a 3-1 scoreline. To date, Shimono has played a total of 110 matches in the S.League for Albirex Niigata (S), and an additional 20 matches in domestic cup competitions like the Singapore Cup and League Cup.

In 2018, the US Supreme Court decided to hear an appeal of Ninth Circuit decision in, Google Referrer Header Privacy Litigation, 10-cv-04809, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California (San Jose) that allowed a class action settlement that awarded $2 million to the plaintiff's attorneys, $5,000 to each of the handful of named plaintiffs, and no monetary award to an estimated 129 million class members, instead citing the cy-près doctrine to give a handful of privacy groups (including all three plaintiffs' attorneys' alma maters and several groups already supported by defendant Google) a share of $6 million rather than any monetary award to class members (who would receive approximately four cents). The case, Frank v. Gaos, alleges that the award was not "fair, reasonable, and adequate" as required by Rule 23(e)(2) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and was heard by the Supreme Court in March 2019. The Supreme Court did not decide on the merits of the case, instead remanding the case to the Ninth Circuit to review whether the plaintiffs had standing.

Frank challenged a 2014 cy pres settlement involving Google. Under the proposed settlement terms, the three lawyers in the case would receive over $2 million (an hourly rate of $1000/hour) and the named plaintiffs would receive $5,000 apiece, while an additional $6 million would be given to several privacy groups as cy pres in lieu of compensation to then remaining unnamed class action members, due to the cost of administering the payout to those estimated 129 million individuals and the low amount of compensation (an estimated four cents if every class member made a claim). The privacy groups that would receive some of the money included each of the three lawyers' alma maters and several groups that Google has supported. The district court judge in the case, Judge Edward Davila, noted "the elephant in the room is that many of them are law schools that you attended. ... I’m disappointed that the usual suspects are still usual." Bloomberg News stated that Judge Davlia remarked that the lack of transparency in selecting the recipients of the money "raises a red flag" and "doesn’t pass the smell test", although it was nonetheless approved.
