He said he would reinstate overtime hours, roll back service reductions, and halt the removal of mail-sorting machines and collection boxes. However, 95 percent of the mail sorting machines that were planned for removal have already been removed, and according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, DeJoy said he has no intention of replacing them or the mail collection boxes.

Streetcar mail collection service (railway mail service) was inaugurated on October 5, 1896, using a fleet of two special all-white trolley cars. Today it remains as a request stop marked by a solitary sign denoting the fact, and a post box mounted in a concrete pillar, a remnant of the days when the railway held the contract for mail collection which it held until 1975 when winter closure necessitated its demise.
