A laser drove electrons through a gold target's nuclei, which caused the incoming electrons to emit energy quanta that decayed into both matter and antimatter. A vehicle using XNAV would compare received X-ray signals with a database of known pulsar frequencies and locations. Similar to GPS, this comparison would allow the vehicle to triangulate its position accurately (±5 km). The advantage of using X-ray signals over radio waves is that X-ray telescopes can be made smaller and lighter.

He is notable for his contribution to the field of quantum information, where he has shown that the quantum mechanical nature of the fields used to manipulate the quantum information carriers (qubits) themselves might lead to unpredictable errors in the performance of the quantum logical operations. The lower bound on the size of these errors can be made smaller by increasing the energy of the control system. By 4 April the encirclement was complete, and for the next two weeks the pocket was made smaller and smaller, eventually forcing the surrender of over 300,000 German troops and their equipment. The victory in the Ruhr essentially eliminated serious opposition by the German Armed forces in Western Germany and afterward American ground forces swept east into Central Germany and Southern Germany, while British and Commonwealth forces moved into northern Germany against little organized resistance.

Nonetheless, since threshing boards are nowadays custom made, made to order or made smaller as an adornment or souvenir, they may range from miniatures up to the sizes previously described.There are specialized original threshing boards for garbanzos, with smaller dimensions than those used for cereal grains; also, at times, instead of stone chips, they have rollers with crammed blades: "threshing carts" («trillo de ruedas») known in antiquity as Plostellum punicum. The threshing board has been traditionally pulled by mules or by oxen over the grains spread on the threshing floor. As it was moved in circles over the harvest that was spread, the stone chips or blades cut the straw and the ear of wheat (which remained between the threshing board and the pebbles on the ground), thus separating the seed without damaging it.

The west side was not extended but the 1st floors were made smaller and raised. The shops on the west side were originally meant to have the 1st floors as retail use, they were designed to have a large balcony overlooking the lower floor and windows from floor to ceiling however only sevenoaks furniture use unit 4 in the way these units were designed to be used. Currently unit 1 has their 1st floor covered up with a wall covering where the balcony should be, unit 2 has a false ceiling with approx 6-foot high empty space above it and unit 3's 1st floor is covered up like unit 1 but it used by shoezone in unit 2. Sevenoaks Furniture extended the upper floor of Unit 1 in approx. 2004.

Contrary to what is often said, no MetOsul vehicles were produced from tooling acquired from British or French Dinky Toys. The Atlantean bus is only a mirror image copy of the former Dinky model and produced in yellow, red, and green over cream or white it is definitely not a copy of the Dinky Toys model. Most of the cars were produced in 1/43 scale, while buses and trucks were made smaller. Among the best known in about 1:43 scale are the Renault Floride, Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spyder, Caravana Notin, Citroën DS 19, Leyland Atlantean Bus, Mercedes-Benz 1113 truck, Mercedes-Benz 190, Mercedes-Benz 200, Mini Morris Cooper, Peugeot 204, Peugeot 304, Renault R16, Volvo P1800, 1907 Rolls Royce, Volkswagen Beetle, Volkswagen Combi, and a 1960s style camper trailer.

The album was recorded by Aaron Cupples, a "good friend" of Liddiard. He recalled that the band wanted "an honest and uninvolved" sound, similar to Neil Young's Tonight's the Night: "I wanted [...] not to 'hide' the process of recording from the listener [...] all the drop-ins and drop-outs are all just laid out bare." He recalled a crossfade 2 minutes into the track "I'm Here Now" for the drop-in of a new guitar, which he made smaller to make it sound "like a volume swell that you can do on a guitar with the volume knob". The band also spent a lot of time "placing the drums in the right spot so they sounded big", which ended up being in the middle of the room and lent the recordings "plenty of low end".

The former clothes room became the Selectmen's Office, and the former Lafayette Artillery office—later a police department office—was enlarged as the office of the Town Clerk and Tax Collector. The former kitchen was expanded and made into the Police Department office, while the former dining hall was made smaller and turned into a meeting room and two offices for the Selectmen. The beaded board formerly on the walls of the dining hall was cut and turned into wainscoting (with a new chair rail to match the original chair rail in the front hallway), and the dining room's original pine floor was refinished and made a key feature of the new meeting room. The use of volunteers saved so much money that the committee was able to renovate the second floor, so that it could be used for public functions again.

During 1807 and 1808, Kendall travelled through the northern parts of the United States, as a result of which he published his historically important three-volume topographical dictionary Travels through the northern parts of the United States.

The Würzburg D was introduced in 1941 and added a conical scanning system using an offset receiver feed called a Quirl (German for whisk) that spun at The resulting signal was slightly offset from the centreline of the dish, rotating around the axis and overlapping it in the centre. If the target aircraft was to one side of the antenna's axis, the strength of the signal would grow and fade as the beam swept across it, allowing the system to move the dish in the direction of the maximum signal and thereby track the target. The angular resolution could be made smaller than the beam width of the antenna, leading to much improved accuracy, on the order of 0.2 degrees in azimuth and 0.3 degrees in elevation. Earlier examples were generally upgraded to the D model in the field.

Some volume managers also implement snapshots by applying copy-on-write to each LE. In this scheme, the volume manager will copy the LE to a copy-on-write table just before it is written to. This preserves an old version of the LV, the snapshot, which may be later reconstructed by overlaying the copy-on-write table atop the current LV. Unless the volume management supports both thin provisioning and discard, once an LE in the origin volume is written to, it is permanently stored in the snapshot volume. If the snapshot volume was made smaller than its origin, which is a common practice, this may render the snapshot inoperable. Snapshots can be useful for backing up self-consistent versions of volatile data such as table files from a busy database, or for rolling back large changes (such as an operating system upgrade) in a single operation.

Throughout most of its existence, the florin bore some variation of either the shields of the United Kingdom, or the emblems of its constituent nations on the reverse, a tradition broken between 1902 and 1910, when the coin featured a windswept figure of a standing Britannia. In 1911, following the accession of George V, the florin regained the shields and sceptres design it had in the late Victorian era, and it kept that motif until 1937, when the national emblems were placed on it. The florin retained such a theme for the remainder of its run, though a new design was used from 1953, following the accession of Elizabeth II. In 1968, prior to decimalisation, the Royal Mint began striking the ten-pence piece. The old two-shilling piece remained in circulation until the ten-pence piece was made smaller, and earlier coins, including the florin, were demonetised.

His second such work, The New Dinosaurs: An Alternative Evolution (1988), explained the concept of zoogeography using a fictional world in which the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event never happened and his third, Man After Man: An Anthropology of the Future (1990), explained climate change through the eyes of future human descendants that had been genetically engineered to cope with it. Dixon also made smaller-scale projects during the writing and development of the three books, such as contributing to an 1982 article in the magazine Omni, titled Visions of Man Evolved, which featured Dixon's concepts of a future human descendant. Through these three books, Dixon is generally considered to be the founder of the modern speculative evolution movement. The fact that Dixon created entire fictional worlds, which were then made easily accessible through books with color illustrations printed by mainstream publishing companies had a large impact and his ideas have increasingly been repurposed or used as inspirations for numerous similar projects on the internet.

This transition can be exemplified in the Renault 21 that was offered with disparate engine configurations. The 1.7-litre version featured an 'east-west' (transversely) mounted engine, but Renault had no gearbox suitable for a more powerful transverse engine: accordingly, faster versions featured longitudinally mounted (north south) engines. By reducing drivetrain weight and space needs, vehicles could be made smaller and more efficient without sacrificing acceleration. Integrating the powertrain with a transverse as opposed to a longitudinal layout, along with unibody construction and the use of constant velocity jointed drive axles, along with front wheel drive has evolved into the modern-day mass market automobile. Some suggest that the introduction of the modern Volkswagen Golf in 1974, from a traditional U.S. competitor, and the introduction of the 1973 Honda Civic, and the 1976 Honda Accord served as a wake-up call for the "Big Three" (only Chrysler already produced front- wheel-drive vehicles in their operations outside North America).

In 1717, two Roman stones were installed as plaques in the front hall. The larger of the two stones, dated between 196 and 198 AD, has an inscription on the front about the repair of an armory by Roman troops; the text on the other side is older, dating from somewhere between 103 and 111 AD. In the making of the newer text, the stone was made smaller, damaging the older text. The smaller stone has a text which, through knowledge of the people named there in, can date the stone to around 205 AD. Legend holds that both stones come from Brittenburg, the presumed Roman ruins that resurfaced above water off the coast of Katwijk in 1520. However, this cannot be true of the larger stone, because a military chronicle discovered in 1517 was indisputably taken from the text inscribed on it, implying that the stone was one found in 1502 while plowing a piece of land near the Monastery of Roomburg.

Announced in March 2007 to succeed the E-500, it represents the first use of the new Panasonic MOS sensors instead of the Kodak CCD sensors that Olympus had used previously. It also is the first Olympus DSLR to include in-body image stabilization; most subsequent E-system cameras include an IS system. The E-510 body and lens mount conform to the "Four Thirds System" standard, providing compatibility with other lenses for that system. Four-Thirds is a digital SLR standard using a crop factor of 2x; this means that Four-Thirds lenses can be made smaller and cheaper, but that the cameras exhibit somewhat worse high ISO performance. As with all E-system cameras, the E-510 uses Olympus' Supersonic Wave Filter dust reduction system to shake dust from the sensor during startup and when requested by the user; this largely eliminates the problem of dust accumulation on the surface of the image sensor. The E-510 was released in a number of different iterations for purchase: the camera body only, the body bundled with a 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 lens, and the body bundled with 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 and 40-150mm 1:4-5.6 lenses.
