Built in 1967 (then called AquaZoo) and renovated in 2000, the PPG Aquarium is a 45,000 square foot, two-story aquarium that presents several aquatic habitats. The aquarium's theme is the "Diversity of Water," and contains several exhibits that portray different marine ecosystems, including a tropical rainforest inhabited by arapaima and piranha; a Pennsylvania exhibit, which features fish and aquatic wildlife of the Allegheny River, such as the brook trout; a penguin exhibit, which is inhabited by kings, macaronis, and gentoos; a coral reef; and an open ocean exhibit.

Charles James Fox was elected as a member the following year at the age of sixteen. The club premises at 49 Pall Mall was a former tavern owned by William Almack as was the neighbouring 50 Pall Mall where the society had previously met and so the club become simply known as Almack's. These fashionable young men, known as Macaronis, would frequent the premises for the purposes of wining, dining and gambling. In September 1777 William Brooks, a wine merchant and money lender who acted as Master, or manager, for Almack's, commissioned Henry Holland to design and construct a purpose-built clubhouse at a site on neighbouring St James's Street.

The bay, with part of the south-western slopes of Mont Ross, has been identified as a 20 km2 Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International because of its breeding seabirds. Of the penguins, there are some 21,500 pairs of kings, 500 pairs of gentoos, 6000 pairs of macaronis and 4000 pairs of eastern rockhoppers. Other birds nesting in the IBA include a few pairs of wandering albatrosses, Antarctic and slender-billed prions, white-chinned, northern giant and common diving petrels, Kerguelen shags, Kerguelen terns, black-faced sheathbills and Eaton's pintails. Antarctic fur seals and southern elephant seals also breed on the shores of the bay.
