Mazama's eruptive activity drew from deeper layers of the magma chamber that fed its climactic eruption, with denser layers of andesite and basaltic andesite lying beneath lighter layers of rhyodacite.

The current owner of Peplow Hall is Russel Waters. RAF Peplow Airfield, used during the Second Woirld War, saw many military personnel pass through the hamlet to get to the airfield, located between Eaton on Tern and Childs Ercall, across the river. The airfield was named accordingly as access on the train required dismounting at Peplow station and walking the remainder of the journey. There is a cricket club called Hodnet and Peplow CC, and the club's badge is that of a gold lion (from the gates of Hodnet Hall), lying beneath a green beech tree (representing the beech trees lining the driveway of Peplow Hall).

Although designed to stand on the earth in the cellar of Arlington House, cemetery officials placed it on one of the wooden floors above. The book stand was so heavy that the floor sagged and required reinforcement. At the time, the building was not a house museum but rather contained the living quarters of the Superintendent of Arlington National Cemetery and office space for him and his staff. In 1929, the Record Book was transferred from Arlington House to Arlington Memorial Amphitheater when the main floor of the amphitheater became a Memorial Exhibit Hall displaying honors received by the unknown soldiers lying beneath the Tomb of the Unknowns.

Dr. Cunningham describes the same malevolent forces pursuing him that the couple has been experiencing, and that he was studying the story of the nurses, Miranda and Bridget Jane. The sisters killed their retirement home patients based on the first letters of the victims' names, spelling the unfinished word "Murder". Subsequent tenants experienced the word's constant reappearance on the wall, and Matt runs to uncover the same word from the kitchen lying beneath the wallpaper. Dr. Cunningham goes on to describe that the dark forces of the house and woods were what stopped the nurses, and continues to document paranormal activity inside the house.

The finale of the 2009 film The International takes place in a fantasy amalgam of the Old City, depicting the Basilica Cistern as lying beneath the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, which, in the film, is directly adjacent to the Süleymaniye Mosque. The cistern is featured in Clive and Dirk Cussler's 2010 Dirk Pitt fiction novel, Crescent Dawn and The Navigator. In the 2011 video game, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, the player controlled character, Ezio Auditore, is given the chance to explore a section of this cistern in a memory sequence entitled The Yerebatan Cistern. The cistern is also featured in Jean-Baptiste Andrea's film thriller Brotherhood of Tears (2013).

The cerebellum rests at the back of the cranial cavity, lying beneath the occipital lobes, and is separated from these by the cerebellar tentorium, a sheet of fibre. It is connected to the midbrain of the brainstem by the superior cerebellar peduncles, to the pons by the middle cerebellar peduncles, and to the medulla by the inferior cerebellar peduncles. The cerebellum consists of an inner medulla of white matter and an outer cortex of richly folded grey matter. The cerebellum's anterior and posterior lobes appear to play a role in the coordination and smoothing of complex motor movements, and the flocculonodular lobe in the maintenance of balance although debate exists as to its cognitive, behavioural and motor functions.

Weinstein, 27 Holmes wrote in the second preface to Elsie Venner, his first novel, that his aim in writing the work was "to test the doctrine of 'original sin' and human responsibility for the distorted violation coming under that technical denomination".Weinstein, 67 He also stated his belief that "a grave scientific doctrine may be detected lying beneath some of the delineations of character" throughout all fiction.Hoyt, 189 Deeming the work a "psychological romance", he employed a romantic narrative in order to describe moral theology from a scientific perspective. This means of expression is also present in his two other novels, in which Holmes uses medical or psychological dilemmas to further the story's dramatic plot.

On November 20, 1987, Dahmer—at the time residing with his grandmother in West Allis—encountered a 25-year-old man from Ontonagon, Michigan, Steven Tuomi, at a bar and persuaded him to return to the Ambassador Hotel in Milwaukee, where Dahmer had rented a room for the evening. According to Dahmer, he had no intention of murdering Tuomi, but rather intended to drug and rape him as he lay unconscious. The following morning, however, Dahmer awoke to find Tuomi lying beneath him on the bed, his chest "crushed in" and "black and blue" with bruises. Blood was also seeping from the corner of his mouth, and Dahmer's fists and one forearm were extensively bruised.

The forewings are orange, paler towards the costa with dark-metallic-leaden- grey markings and with a narrow basal spot, as well as a streak along the fold from near the base to near the middle. There is a streak in the disc from about one-third to two-thirds, as well as a small dorsal spot before the middle and the apical third of the wing is more or less broadly streaked with leaden grey between the veins, variable in extent. The hindwings are whitish ochreous in males, the costa suffused with grey, with a submedian groove and expansible pencil of long whitish-ochreous hairs from the base lying beneath it. The hindwings of the females are grey.

Saxo Grammaticus' Gesta Danorum (Book 4) speaks of Froger, the King of Norway, who was a great champion. Saxo relates: > According to some, he was the son of Odin, and when he begged the immortal > gods to grant him a boon, received the privilege that no man should conquer > him, save he who at the time of the conflict could catch up in his hand the > dust lying beneath Froger's feet. King Fródi the Active of Denmark, still a young man, learning of the charm, begged Froger to give him lessons in fighting. When the fighting court had been marked off, Fródi entered with glorious gold-hilted sword and clad in a golden breastplate and helmet.

During the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries, the church was enriched by the addition of frescos and sculpture. The western end of the building (liturgical east) was altered and extended by Giuliano da Maiano between 1466 and 1468, with the work including vestries, the Chapel of Conception and the Chapel of St Fina. The church was damaged during World War II, and during the subsequent restoration in 1951 the triapsidal eastern end of the earlier church was discovered lying beneath the nave of the present church. The church possesses the relics of St. Geminianus, the beatified Bishop of Modena and patron saint of the town, whose feast day is celebrated on 31 January.

The wingspan is about 20 mm. The forewings are white with a grey spot on the dorsum at one-fourth, and a larger subtriangular dark grey blotch at three- fourths, as well as some irregular grey suffusion extending in the disc from one-third to three-fourths, appearing to be formed of segments of three oblique irregular transverse shades partially confluent. A grey curved shade from the tornus reaches two-thirds across the wing and there is some grey suffusion before the termen beneath the apex. The hindwings are light grey, tinged with whitish anteriorly and with the costal margin broadly expanded from the base to two-thirds, with short white scales beyond the middle, and a long whitish subcostal hairpeucil lying beneath the forewings.

The forewings are shining, dark purplish, with a triangular patch of somewhat roughened scales extending nearly across the wing at one-third from the base (this is bright purplish grey in certain lights, but appears brownish fuscous if held in an opposite direction). Beyond this, at the upper angle of the cell is a smaller similar patch and a slender subochreous line runs along the base of the dark purplish cilia. The hindwings of the males are deep purplish fuscous (varying somewhat according to the angle at which the light strikes them) with the costal margin from the base to two-thirds shining whitish ochreous. A pale, iridescent transparent elongate patch, lying beneath the costal margin beyond the middle, extends nearly across the width of the cell and a tuft of greyish hair-scales is found at the base of vein 1.

Compare with Homer, Odyssey 4.499-4.511 where Poseidon breaks off a piece of the island Gyrae with his trident, sending the boasting Greek Hero Ajax the Lesser to the bottom of the ocean, where he drowned. :Polybotes was chased through the sea by Poseidon and came to Cos; and Poseidon, breaking off that piece of the island which is called Nisyrum, threw it on him. The first- century BC geographer Strabo also records the story of Polybotes buried under Nisyros (or Kos itself):Strabo, 10.5.16. :They say that Nisyros is a fragment of Cos, and they add the myth that Poseidon, when he was pursuing one of the giants, Polybotes, broke off a fragment of Cos with his trident and hurled it upon him, and the missile became an island, Nisyros, with the giant lying beneath it.

The wingspan is about 26 mm. The forewings are ochreous-white with a grey basal patch occupying one-fourth of the wing, with a central interrupted darker grey shade, the dorsal half beyond this grey throughout, cut by two fine irregular oblique whitish lines before and beyond the middle, confluent with an irregular subquadrate grey blotch in the disc beyond the cell, marked with two blackish dots transversely placed on the end of the cell, its upper anterior angle connected by a narrow projection with the costa beyond the middle. Immediately beyond this is a light grey shade not rising above it, separated by a whitish line from a narrow grey terminal fascia widest at the apex. The hindwings are grey with the costal margin somewhat expanded to the middle, with long rough projecting hairscales suffused with grey beneath, and a moderately long ochreous-whitish subcostal hairpencil lying beneath the forewings.

In the middle and late Cretaceous Period, about 100 million years ago, the San Luis Valley lay on the shore of or beneath the Western Interior Seaway, a shallow sea which divided North America into two parts. As the sea deepened and expanded sand and gravel eroded from mountains in the west was deposited in the Dakota Formation; later, when the sea was deeper mud and sand were deposited in the Mancos Shale. The Lexam oil play near Crestone is based on the hypothesis that there is oil trapped in Dakota Formation sandstones lying beneath Mancos Shale to the west of the Sangre de Cristo fault at the western base of the Sangre de Cristo Range southwest of Crestone. Drilling at the base of the range during gold exploration in the vicinity showed small amounts of oil and evidence of the existence of those formations as well as the underlying Morrison Formation.

The wingspan is about 18 mm. The forewings are white with a fringe of dense ochreous-whitish hairs from beneath the costa occupying the costal third from the base to two-fifths and with a reddish-brown streak from the base along the dorsum, suddenly expanded before the middle into a ferruginous-brown band occupying the dorsal three-fifths to the termen, with a rather oblique red- brown streak from the middle of the costa joining the angle of this. The plical stigma is dark fuscous, resting on the anterior edge of the expansion, the first discal fuscous, obliquely before it and there are two or three reddish-brown dots in a very oblique row from the costa before some dark brown marginal dots around the posterior part of the costa and termen. The hindwings are grey with an expansible whitish hairpencil from the base lying beneath the costa to the middle.

The forewings are white, tinged in the disc with ochreous and with a broad dark bronzy-purplish fascia near the base, leaving a slender whitish basal space obscurely marked with dark grey, the outer edge of the fascia irregular, hardly oblique, but on the dorsal half followed by irregular grey suffusion extending beneath the fold to the tornus, on the dorsum suffusedly spotted with dark fuscous before and beyond the middle. There are two dark fuscous dots transversely placed on the end of the cell and there is a straight transverse grey shade at four-fifths, more or less enlarged anteriorly into a blotch on the costa. Some undefined grey suffusion is found before the apex and termen, preceding a white dentate marginal line with interspaces filled with dark fuscous. The hindwings are grey, paler anteriorly and with the costal margin somewhat expanded to beyond the middle, with long rough projecting hairscales suffused with dark grey beneath, and a long ochreous- white subcostal hairpencil lying beneath the forewings.
