On 23 September 2014, Ospina made his debut for Arsenal in the League Cup match against Southampton, a 2–1 home defeat. He made his second Arsenal appearance on 1 October in their UEFA Champions League group stage match at home to Galatasaray, replacing Alexis Sánchez after starting goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny had been sent off for a professional foul on Burak Yılmaz.
The 2000–2001 season came round and new manager Lennie Lawrence although initially favouring Croudson as his backup keeper briefly replaced him with loanee Danish keeper Morten Hyldgaard. Croudson would play no part in that particular season. In the 2001–2002 campaign Croudson was made available for loan and was originally a target for Buckley's new team Lincoln City, however Croudson made a move to Grimsby's local rivals Scunthorpe United who were managed by former Town boss Brian Laws. He signed for the Glanford Park club in August 2001 and after a month with The Iron where he played in 4 games he returned to Grimsby to fight for his place in the team.
The 2018–19 campaign was one of Keogh's best in a Derby shirt as he captained the side for the majority of the season due to Curtis Davies' absence through injury. That season Keogh made 65 appearances in all competitions for both club and country as he became the 29th Derby County player to reach 300 appearances for the club. He started every league fixture under manager Frank Lampard and built up a good partnership with Chelsea loanee Fikayo Tomori. On 16 January 2019, the defender netted the winning spot-kick in a 5–3 penalty shootout victory over Southampton in an FA Cup Third Round replay with the tie having been drawn 2–2 after extra time.
On 24 October, the club confirmed that striker Jamie Burrows had requested the cancellation of his contract having struggled with injury following his summer move from Rangers, while also announcing the signing of Coventry City attack- minded midfielder George Thomas on a one-month loan deal. Later that afternoon, Thomas made his debut against Cambridge United but a disastrous first half saw Yeovil trail 3–0 after just 35 minutes, goals from Ryan Bird and Josh Sheehan saw Yeovil rally but to no avail. After suffering a serious knee injury in the defeat to Cambridge, loanee centre-back Stephen Arthurworrey returned to Fulham early. Yeovil's final game of October, saw the Glovers travel to Carlisle United.
Before the start of the season there was speculation that manager Micky Adams would be approached by his former employers at Championship side Leicester City, having impressed in his position at Port Vale. Adams continued to make his mark at Vale though, releasing nine players, and signing Sean Rigg, Stuart Tomlinson, Justin Richards, Ritchie Sutton and Gary Roberts. Lewis Haldane was rushed into hospital after being bitten by an insect during a training session, forcing him to miss the first half of the season. Adams drafted in Reading winger Abdulai Bell-Baggie as a loan replacement for Haldane, and after an initial one-month period then replaced Bell-Baggie with Milton Keynes Dons loanee Jemal Johnson.
Queudrue hit back, saying that he had not played enough to be judged so harshly. Sullivan apologised to Queudrue for his outburst, but not to Kingson, who expressed his sadness at the incident, which he described as a "slap in the face". Kingson was released: McLeish said, "It's about opinions and we have other plans, so for the sake of his first-team future, we have let Richard move on." Birmingham also decided to release youth players Asa Hall, David Howland, Adam Legzdins and Stefan Milojević, McLeish chose not to pursue the purchase of loanee Rafael Schmitz, and Daniël de Ridder's contract was cancelled by mutual consent at the end of June; he joined Wigan the following day.
The administration of the Greek Cup winners decided to sign the 26-year-old Argentine goalkeeper instead of experienced Mexican international Francisco Guillermo Ochoa Magaña, because he was younger and there is also a strong chance Magaña would be called up in his motherland's national team soon. On 27 July 2017, he made his debut in an away 1-1 draw for the 1st leg of UEFA Europa League third qualifying round against Olimpik Donetsk. On 28 May 2019, after a prolific season with the club, but as second goalie after the undisputed first goalkeeper Alexandros Paschalakis, he signed a year contract as a loanee with Liga MX club Pachuca despite the interest of other Argentinian clubs.
Manolas was a key figure for AEK Athens in the 2010–11 season, playing impressive performances in the Superleague Greece but also in the 2010–11 UEFA Europa League, which drew interest from many European teams such as Genoa, Udinese, Getafe and Schalke 04. Manolas scored a very important goal for AEK against Hajduk Split, securing the win for the Greek side. The following week, Manolas found the back of the net again, this time against AEL in the Greek Cup, which AEK would later go on to win. His impressive performances convinced then AEK Athens coach Manolo Jiménez and earned him a spot in the starting line-up, forcing Real Madrid loanee David Mateos to the substitutes' bench.
Skuse didn't find a consistent midfield partner until November, when Everton loanee Callum Connolly was given his first start there of the season. On 8 February 2018, Skuse signed a new two-year deal at Portman Road, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2020, with the option of a further year. His 200th appearance in all competitions for Ipswich came on 6 March against Sheffield Wednesday, and he was the only player signed by manager Mick McCarthy to have reached the benchmark during his tenure. Skuse made 39 starts that season, captaining the side on eight occasions through the absence of Luke Chambers, as Ipswich finished in mid-table.
In his next appearance for the club, he scored the equalising goal in a 2–1 win at Dagenham & Redbridge, when he "blasted in" a "25-yard blockbuster" – fellow Stevenage loanee Madjo went on to score the winning goal. Myrie-Williams' effort was Vale's first goal in 502 minutes (more than five games) of football. He won a penalty in his fourth game for the club, which was converted by Marc Richards to give Vale a 2–1 win at Hereford United. He returned to Broadhall Way in January having scored one goal in six games for Port Vale, who were unable to extend the loan deal due to an acute lack of funds.
His quality as a coach was further underlined by the titles he had already won. Before Van Gaal's arrival, the club had already signed Mario Gómez for a Bundesliga record sum of €35 million, as well as Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, Ivica Olić and Alexander Baumjohann. Finally, Andreas Görlitz returned on loan from Karlsruher SC. Van Gaal then encouraged the recruitment of Danijel Pranjić and Edson Braafheid. On the outgoing side, the loanee Massimo Oddo returned to Milan, Tim Borowski was sold to his former club Werder Bremen, Lúcio left for Inter Milan after many successful years with the Reds, and Zé Roberto signed with Hamburger SV when he could not agree with Bayern on a new contract.
Pearson brought several transfers and loans into the club in his bid to strengthen the squad for the season's campaign. One of those efforts yielded quick results on the season's opening day, as loanee John Bostock from Tottenham Hotspur supplied the first of two winning goals over Swansea City. Team captain Ian Ashbee, returning from injury that kept him sidelined much of the preceding season, supplied the second. After weeks of speculation about a local business man looking to be interested in investing in Hull City, it was confirmed on 18 October 2010 that Assem Allam, along with his son Ehab had entered negotiations with Hull City owner and chairman, Russell Bartlett.
After Gerry Murphy and Graham Mitchell had taken temporary charge after Ternent's sacking, former Newcastle United and Fulham player Lee Clark was appointed as the Manager in December 2008. Clark steered Town to 9th place in the table. During his first full season Clark got Huddersfield to the play- offs but a very lacklustre performance away at Millwall saw Town get knocked out in the semi-finals, 2–0 on aggregate. The 2010–11 season followed and saw a change in philosophy with Clark completely doing away with the fast attractive football from the previous season and bringing in a 4–5–1 formation which saw loanee Benik Afobe playing as a lone striker in the away matches.
On 1 February, Tennai Watson signed a new contract until the summer 2021, with Sam Smith follow suit by also signing a new contract until 2021. Reading traveled to Middlesbrough on 10 February, losing 2-1 to goal either side of halftime from Adama Traoré and a consolation goal from loanee Chris Martin whilst Britt Assombalonga also missed a late penalty for the hosts.
Graham started the 2007–08 season in good form, and was the division's top goalscorer from August until October, including one against his former loanee club Leeds United. However, after his goal on 13 October 2007, Graham did not score again until 2 February 2008. He made his 100th career appearance playing for Carlisle United against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on 3 March 2008, scoring the winning goal in a 1–0 victory, in a match broadcast live on Sky Sports. Graham also started the 2008–09 season in goalscoring form, netting 13 goals between August and December, including scoring a hat-trick, in a 4–1 win over Yeovil Town on 30 August 2008.
Tyler was recalled to the first-team for the second-round game on 29 November 1994, a 2–0 away defeat to Hereford United. He featured twice in league games during January 1995, replacing loanee Fred Barber as a 17th-minute substitute in a 0–0 draw with Bradford City on 14 January 1995, before making a starting appearance in a 1–1 draw away at Chester City on 28 January 1995. Tyler failed to make a further appearance until 22 April 1995 in a 1–0 win over Blackpool, his final game of the season. All in all, he made seven appearances in all competitions during the 1994–95 season at the age of 17.
From 26 November, they were beaten just once in nine matches, but became the division's draw specialists as seven of these nine games finished level. They finished the campaign in 19th place, seven points clear of the relegation zone. In summer 2012, he offered professional contracts to youth team players Malvind Benning, Ben George, Aaron Williams and Kieron Morris. He continued to add promising young players by bringing in 21-year-old winger Ashley Hemmings, 19-year-old former loanee Florent Cuvelier, 19-year-old winger James Baxendale, 20-year-old defender Paul Downing, 19-year-old striker Connor Taylor, 23-year-old striker Febian Brandy, in addition to 32-year-old right-back Dean Holden.
After a goalless first half, first Andy Shinnie and then Novak hit the crossbar with shots from distance. Randolph kept out a powerful shot from former Birmingham loanee Kemy Agustien, then the same player fed Andrew Crofts to score the only goal of the game; Clark was disappointed by his team's failure to close the move down. Marlon King's contract was terminated by mutual consent ahead of the transfer window closing. Peter Løvenkrands, who had also been made available on a free transfer and had played no previous part on a matchday, partnered Novak in attack as, for the first time this season, Clark set the team up in a 4–4–2 formation.
In the league, the Sons finally secured their first league victory of the campaign on 16 September, beating fellow part-timers Brechin City 2-1 at the YOUR Radio 103FM Stadium thanks to late goals from Mark Stewart and Dimitris Froxylias. They followed this up with another 2-1 home victory, this time against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the first ever league meeting between the sides. Dimitris Froxylias scored again, with Celtic loanee Sam Wardrop scoring the winner with his first goal in senior football. The month ended with a 2-1 defeat against Livingston at Almondvale Stadium, where Tom Walsh scored his first goal of his second spell with the club.
With Norwich loanee Jake Kean returning to his parent club due to "a couple of things" he was unhappy with at Colchester United, goalkeeper Elliot Parish once again returned to first- team action for the U's in their Essex derby away fixture with Southend. Despite losing Alex Gilbey after 36 minutes having been sent off for a challenge on Southend's Ryan Leonard, Colchester put in a solid defensive display against their county neighbour with only ten men. The defence soaked up the pressure until the 82nd minute, when former Colchester player Anthony Wordsworth struck with a 20-yard effort. A short while later, the home side's lead was doubled when Adam Barrett headed in Jack Payne's corner kick.
The injury would go on to cost Heaton his place in the team as the club went unbeaten with Enckelman in goal for over two months. In February, Enckelman was forced to undergo knee surgery which saw Heaton return in goal on 16 February 2009, when he picked up the man of the match award in a 4–0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal. However, he tore his thigh muscle during the match, ruling him out for up to five weeks. On his return, Heaton found himself on the bench behind loanee Stuart Taylor but, following a 6–0 defeat against Preston North End, he replaced Taylor for the final three matches of the season.
Former Birmingham player DJ Campbell equalised, both sides hit the woodwork, the visitors were particularly profligate in front of goal, but Dann scored an 89th-minute winner with a poacher's finish from Johnson's knock-down. Without Dann, whose hamstring injury sustained in the League Cup first leg was to keep him out for the rest of the season, Ridgewell moved to centre back, David Murphy started at left back, and loanee David Bentley made his debut in the Sunday lunchtime kickoff against Aston Villa. Both teams had chances to win but the 1–1 draw left both teams just outside the relegation zone. The attendance of 22,287 was the lowest for Premier League matches between the clubs.

After the Plymouth Argyle match, the club announced that former first team manager Steve Rutter had rejoined the club as head of coaching in the Glovers' academy.

On 31 July 2011, Gouano was officially transferred to Juventus, where he was enlisted into the club's Primavera youth team, where he was a first team regular in the side that won 2012 Viareggio Tournament. Gouano was promoted from the youth academy ahead of the 2012–13 Serie A campaign, though he was loaned out to Serie B outfit, Virtus Lanciano on 29 August 2012. He was joined by fellow Juventus loanee Nicola Leali just two days later. During his loan spell with the newly promoted Serie B side, Gouano made just 1 first team appearance in a 0–3 home loss to Bari on 17 November 2012 after spending much of his time with the club's youth squad.
Two draws followed, at home to Ipswich Town, who equalised in stoppage time, and away at Brentford, where Birmingham had a man advantage for 75 minutes and missed numerous chances to make the game safe. August ended with Robinson back in the side and Birmingham in 20th place after a 4–0 defeat at Wigan Athletic, who "could have won even more comprehensively than 4–0 such was their total superiority." Set up by debutant loanee Brek Shea, Thomas's powerful shot broke the stanchion of the goal, delaying the game by nine minutes. Visitors Leeds United came back to draw, and the 18-year-old Demarai Gray was booked for what the referee perceived as a dive.
Loanee Robert Tesche made his debut in midfield in place of the suspended Gleeson against Blackpool in Lee Clark's first return to Birmingham. A single goal decided the match, Tesche's cross landing on the unmarked Shinnie's head. For the visit to Derby County, for whom Rowett had formerly played, he omitted Donaldson for the first time, selecting Novak as the lone striker, and included Dyer in preference to Gray. Derby were in control throughout normal time: they had a two-goal lead, Birmingham had had no shots on target, and Rowett had become "involved in a heated exchange" with opposing players because the ball had not been returned to Birmingham after an injury stoppage.
In January 2018, Bregu reached an agreement with fellow Albanian Superliga side Skënderbeu Korçë. In the meantime, he remained at Luftëtari Gjirokastër but as a loanee until the end of the season. Bregu was officially presented as a Skënderbeu Korçë player on 24 July where he signed a contract running until 2021. He made his official debut for the club on 12 August in the 2018 Albanian Supercup match against Laçi, making an excellent performance by first winning a penalty kick which was successfully scored by Gjergji Muzaka for a one-goal lead and then scoring for himself to make it 3–1 in an eventual 3–2 win at Selman Stërmasi Stadium.
Yeovil's three game winning run in the league came to an abrupt end with a 3–1 home defeat against high flying Stevenage despite a further goal by inform loan striker Paddy Madden early in the first half. The club though got back to winning ways the following on 10 November, courtesy of a goal from Bristol City loanee Joe Edwards after seven minutes to give the side a 1–0 win over bottom of the league side Hartlepool United. The same day youth team goalkeeper Matt Cafer joined Sherborne Town on a work-experience loan deal. Luke Ayling's performance in the victory over Hartlepool United led to his inclusion in the Football League Team of the Week.
The semi-final victory set up a showdown with Brentford, on 19 May, in the League One play-off Final at Wembley Stadium. In front of a crowd of 41,955, around 18,000 of them Yeovil fans, Yeovil named an unchanged side for the final and started brightly with a sixth minute goal from top scorer Paddy Madden. Fulham loanee Dan Burn doubled the late in the first half, before Brentford pulled a goal back through Harlee Dean, but Yeovil held out to win promotion to the Championship for the first time in the club's history. It was also manager Gary Johnson's third promotion as Yeovil manager coming on the 10th anniversary of the club's promotion to the Football League.
He signed a two-year contract with Oxford the following month after stating that "I thoroughly enjoyed last season". He ruptured two ligaments on the eve of the new season and was ruled out of action for three months. His injury left him unable to feature under manager Pep Clotet, and with the arrival of Robert Dickie caretaker-manager Derek Fazackerley felt that he had enough cover at centre-back to allow Raglan to look for game time elsewhere. On 30 January 2018, he re-joined former club Port Vale in League Two on loan until the end of the 2017–18 season; manager Neil Aspin had quickly needed a centre-back to replace the recalled loanee Tom Anderson.
With Lee Grant's departure from Sheffield Wednesday to Burnley in the close season, Weaver the ex-Owl loanee and Wednesday fan signed as a replacement after the club's transfer embargo was lifted. On 4 October 2010, Weaver was awarded the Handley Brown player of the month for September after a number of impressive performances in an underachieving Wednesday team. Weaver was awarded man of the match against Chesterfield in a Football League Trophy second round match after scoring the decisive penalty and saving three spot kicks, two of which were vital sudden death saves to keep Wednesday in the competition. Weaver received his second successive Player of The Month award off the club for his performances in October.

O'Brien battled it out with Jake Cole and loanee Sam Walker for the number 1 jersey and made eight appearances during the remainder of the 2010/11 season. Under new manager Lawrie Sanchez, O'Brien served mainly as backup to new first-choice keeper Dean Brill and made only 11 appearances during the 2011/12 season.

However, last seasons joint-leading goalscorer Jabo Ibehre agreed a two-year contract extension on 17 June. On 28 June, another former Arsenal loanee joined the club on a permanent basis when Sanchez Watt signed a two-year contract with the club. Another development squad signing was made on 2 July when former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Conor Hubble signed following a trial period at the club. The first-team squad played their first friendly of pre-season on 10 July when they beat Heybridge Swifts 2–1.
The visitors had a two goal lead after twelve minutes, but a second- half revival brought the U's back into the match. Macauley Bonne capped his first professional start with a goal three minutes after the break. Then, Everton loanee Luke Garbutt scored from 25-yards to draw level on 64 minutes. A contentious penalty decision against Magnus Okuonghae for hand-ball allowed Chris Porter to score the winner in a 3–2 victory. Colchester resumed League One activities on 16 November at home to Swindon Town and lost 2–1 with a Magnus Okuonghae goal their consolation as it left the U's with one win in 16 games in all competitions.
Black immediately negotiated a contract with Barrow, at £60-a-week less than his basic Lancaster City deal, but the difference was more than made up by a lump sum signing-on fee to be paid in three instalments. He started his Barrow career in good form; scoring three goals in his first six games and playing in his favoured central role alongside loanee Tom Pope. A red card in an FA Trophy defeat at Worcester City, for elbowing Dennis Pearce, led to a three match ban which derailed Black's progress. He returned to the starting line-up two months later but was sent-off again, much to the fury of his manager Phil Wilson.
On 12 March, Yeovil extended their unbeaten run to six matches, with a fourth consecutive 1–0 victory and a fifth clean sheet in a row, after a François Zoko goal earned victory over Notts County. Cuco Martina opened the scoring on his first league start for the club, Shane Long scored the second ten minutes after half time, captain José Fonte scored his second of the season and Long scored a second in injury time to complete the win. Two days later, Southampton lost 2–1 at West Ham United, missing out on the chance to move up to ninth in the table. The Saints opened the scoring within 15 minutes thanks to a Carl Jenkinson own goal, but former Southampton loanee Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll scored for the hosts in the final third of the game to pick up the win.
This was Evtimov's first game for Forest since October 2015, and his home debut at the City Ground six years after first joining the club. On 28 October 2017, Evtimov joined League Two club Port Vale on an emergency loan following an injury to loanee goalkeeper Kelle Roos, and made his "Valiants" debut later that day against Swindon Town at Vale Park. At fault for at least one of the goals in a 3–0 defeat, The Sentinel's Michael Baggaley wrote that "Evtimov looked as though he had only just been introduced to his defence, but that’s not a criticism because actually he had". Manager Neil Aspin reserved his criticism for the club's medical staff as they only ruled Roos as unfit to play the previous day.
On 2 July 2013, Bartley agreed a season-long loan move to Championship club Birmingham City. Although he had played little senior football over the previous year, and had not had a full pre-season, manager Lee Clark selected him for the opening match, playing alongside fellow loanee Dan Burn and experienced captain Paul Robinson in a three-man defence; Birmingham lost 1–0 at home to Watford. In the next match, Bartley scored his first goal in senior English football, an extra-time winner against Plymouth Argyle in the League Cup. His lack of sharpness and security in defence meant he was left out for the next match in favour of Hayden Mullins, and was selected less than Burn thereafter.
United's final game of July saw them take on Rotherham United at their newly opened ground, The New York Stadium, and recording a 1–0 victory thanks to a goal from loanee John Cofie. Joe Ironside was on target again a few days later as both he and new signing Tony McMahon scored to give United a 2–0 victory at Morecambe. With pre-season coming to an end reserve coach Chris Morgan took a young United XI side to Matlock Town where they recorded a 1–0 victory thanks to a goal from Erik Tønne.
Skuse made 40 starts in 2016–17, missing six games due to injury during the long Championship season. He also tallied four assists, matching his career high achieved with Bristol in 2012. Skuse began the season partnering Douglas in midfield, but spent most of the second half of the season alongside Cardiff City spring loanee Emyr Huws, with Grant Ward just in front of them. Skuse started the club's first 22 matches in the league in 2017–18, until he left a win against Reading at half-time on 16 December with an ankle injury. He scored his second goal for the club on 16 September 2017, producing a strike from the edge of the box in a 2–0 win over Bolton Wanderers at Portman Road.
After a run of three consecutive starts, Hoganson lost his place in the team to the returning Roberts and Watford loanee Craig Forsyth, so Hoganson returned to the under-21 side where he remained a regular throughout the season and was rewarded in May by an offer of a new one-year contract. Hoganson featured for the first team in pre- season ahead of the 2013–14 season with a highlight being a long range goal he scored in a friendly game against Port Vale. Hoganson will act as cover for Craig Forsyth at left back, as well as feature for the under-21 side. On 18 March 2014, Hoganson joined Conference side Alfreton Town on loan until 26 April 2014.
He was a first-team regular at first, though was limited to just five league starts following the arrival on loanee Danny Rowe in the January transfer window. This was despite him winning the League Two Goal of the Month award for January for an "exquisitely struck volley" with "ferocity and outright power" in a 2–2 at Swindon Town. McCartan scored a total of seven goals in 43 games in the 2018–19 season, including the goal that secured promotion in a 1–1 draw with Cheltenham Town at Sincil Bank on 13 April. "Imps" manager Danny Cowley said that "He’s felt like our player and we look forward to hopefully trying to get something agreed in the summer".
On 22 November 2012, Inman joined League One outfit Crewe Alexandra on loan until January 2013. He previously turned down a loan move to Gateshead. The loanee midfielder was named as an unused substitute for the league victory over Crawley Town and FA Cup defeat to Burton Albion. However, Inman made his professional senior debut on 4 December 2012, playing 88 minutes in the Football League Trophy fixture against Doncaster Rovers. Four days later on 8 December 2012, he scored his first goal for Crewe Alexandra, in a 3–1 win over Preston North End. Seven days later on 15 December, Inman scored his first in a 1–0 victory over Bury, and was also named Man of the Match.
Without Robinson, suspended for two matches after receiving his tenth yellow card, Hancox, who injured an ankle shortly before the game, and Žigić, dropped, Bartley returned from injury and Birmingham gave a debut to 19-year-old left back Amari'i Bell and first league starts of the season to Will Packwood and loanee Albert Rusnák for the visit of Leicester City. Paul Caddis took over the captaincy. In the first half, Birmingham were "relentlessly battered" by the league leaders, though conceded only once, and after Løvenkrands replaced Lee at half time, they "played with more verve and imagination". After they failed to force the ball home in a goalmouth scramble, Leicester broke at pace and Jamie Vardy increased the lead.
On 30 May 2013, Arsenal announced that Watt was one of ten young professional players that would be leaving the club when their contracts expire on 30 June. Colchester United assistant manager Mark Kinsella confirmed that the former U's loanee was a target, with the club having already signed his former Arsenal teammate Craig Eastmond. On 28 June, Watt's transfer to Colchester was made permanent, signing a two-year contract with the Essex outfit. Following an injury sustained during a pre-season win against Maldon & Tiptree, Watt made his second debut for Colchester in a League Cup clash with Peterborough United on 6 August, coming on as a substitute for Alex Gilbey on 65 minutes as the U's succumbed to a heavy 5–1 home defeat.
He was given a squad number prior to being named as a substitute for the League Cup defeat to Southampton in August 2008, but took no part in the game. In February 2009, Aydilek joined Motherwell of the Scottish Premier League on loan for the remainder of the 2008–09 season, where he linked up with fellow loanee and Birmingham team-mate Artur Krysiak. Motherwell manager Mark McGhee had not seen the player, but signed him on the recommendation of his Birmingham counterpart, former Scotland national manager Alex McLeish, who felt he had potential but needed to play in competitive football to develop his game. He was an unused substitute in the SPL draw with Celtic in February 2009, but never appeared for the first team.
Having received a bye in the first round of the Football League Trophy, the U's faced former manager Aidy Boothroyd's Northampton Town in the second round of the competition on 9 October. With the U's leading 1–0 at half-time through a Freddie Sears goal, young debutant Alex Gilbey gave away a penalty from which Northampton scored, before conceding a second goal two minutes later to hand the Cobblers a 2–1 victory. Loanee Sanchez Watt ended Stevenage's unbeaten start to the season on 13 October with his first goal of the season in a 1–0 home victory for Colchester. Colchester then made it four league wins in five games under Joe Dunne on 20 October with a 2–0 home victory over Carlisle United.
He scored the fourth goal of his loan spell on 20 October, converting a cross from fellow loanee Watt in a 2–0 win at home to Carlisle. After scoring four goals in five league games, Ibehre claimed that extra shooting practice during training had helped him hit the goalscoring trail. Despite this, he then had a dry spell, and toward the end of his loan had failed to find the back of the net for two months, but remained unfazed by his lack of goals, saying his "main objective is to help us win". He ended his stay with the club after making 14 league appearances and one appearance in the FA Cup, and returned to his parent club before the turn of the year.

Watford were 4–0 victors at Vicarage Road on 1 March. Bournemouth exacted revenge for their defeat at Dean Court in September with a single-goal victory at Bloomfield Road on 8 March. Three days later, Barry Ferguson picked up his first win in charge — and Blackpool's first in eighteen games in all competitions — with a victory over Ian Holloway's Millwall. Ricardo Fuller scored the only goal of the game. On 15 March, Blackpool visited table-topping Leicester City. Despite taking the lead through loanee David Goodwillie, the Seasiders went on to lose 3–1. Robert Earnshaw joined Blackpool on a free transfer on 21 March. The following day, Blackpool made it six points out of nine with a single-goal victory over Huddersfield Town.
On 17 January 2019, Willem II confirmed the signing of young Greek international on loan from Bochum until the end of the 2018–19 season. On 23 January 2019, he scored his first goal with the club after Marios Vrousai's assist in a 3–2 away KNVB Beker win against FC Twente. On 16 February 2019, he scored his first goal in Eredivisie, with a right footed shot from very close range to the bottom right corner in a 3–2 away loss against Vitesse. Pavlidis only moved to Willem II as a loanee from German side VfL Bochum in January, but he's already managed to make a solid impression in the Eredivisie, popping up with two goals and three assists in seven league games.
On 14 July 2017, Miller signed a three-year contract with EFL Championship club, Middlesbrough, following a successful previous season with his former club Bury. Miller went on to make his debut for his new club on 19 September 2017 in a 0–2 victory over Aston Villa in the third round of the EFL Cup, coming on as a late substitute for Ashley Fletcher at Villa Park. On 5 December 2017, he signed for National League side Wrexham on a month-long loan, going on to make six appearances for the club. On 19 January 2018, Middlesbrough announced that Miller would rejoin his former club Bury on loan until the end of the season, despite reported interest from Wrexham to resign their former loanee.
It was announced on 6 August 2010 that Bennett was allowed go on loan to Crystal Palace, thus giving him the chance to demonstrate his match fitness and form through the improved opportunity of regular first team action. He returned to Forest on 5 January 2011 but was not allowed to go out on loan again due to the loss of loanee Ryan Bertrand . Nevertheless, during the rest of the season Bennett failed to achieve a start for Forest: his opportunities being severely reduced partly due to the signing by Forest of the experienced Paul Konchesky on 31 January 2011 in a 93-day emergency loan deal, but also because of manager Billy Davies' preference for other players as cover at left-back.
Having narrowly avoided relegation to League Two on the final day of the previous season, manager Joe Dunne began strengthening the team early in pre-season, announcing former Arsenal loanee Craig Eastmond had signed a pre-contract agreement with the club on 20 May. Dunne had already allowed Matt Heath and Jackson Ramm to search for a new club with their contracts expiring in June. Colchester's development squad was bolstered first by the signing of Milton Keynes Dons youth-team product Mason Spence, and the news that young striker Freddie Ladapo had signed a new one-year contract to remain with the club. Goalkeeper Mark Cousins also extended his stay at the club, agreeing a new one-year contract on 14 June.
This was Sheffield Wednesday's third defeat on the bounce, their first at home since February (after losing to Stevenage), and their biggest home defeat since March 2011 when they were defeated by Brentford. Later that same week Wednesday were in action again at home, this time against recently relegated Premier League side Bolton Wanderers. Although the Owls started brightly, with Michail Antonio looking the most troublesome player, the game became quite even and a Bolton corner saw Marcos Alonso score with a free-header. Second half was similar to the first with quite an even contest, but the Owls did start to push for the equaliser and deservedly got it when a foul in the box was conceded and loanee Ross Barkley scored from the penalty spot.
The Owls remained comfortable at the back though, and scored another in the last minute of stoppage time, when a brilliant burst of pace by loanee Jérémy Hélan saw him sprint past two players and finished from a tight angle to give Sheffield Wednesday a 2–0 win. It was Sheffield Wednesday's second-consecutive win and clean sheet, and their first home win since the beginning of November. It also brought them out of the relegation zone for the first time since the middle of November, despite other teams around them winning as well. On Christmas Eve the loans of Jérémy Hélan and Mamady Sidibé were confirmed to be extended until 19 January 2013, and therefore made available for the Boxing Day clash at Bolton Wanderers.
On 18 October 2013, Norris moved to League Two side Northampton Town on loan until 16 November, linking up with fellow Brentford loanee Stuart Dallas. The following day he started in Northampton's match against Dagenham & Redbridge and scored the first league goal of his career in a 2–2 draw. He scored again in the following game, netting from 25 yards in a 3–2 away defeat to Rochdale and he bagged his third in three games with the equaliser in a 1–1 home draw with Cheltenham Town. Norris took his tally to four goals in five games when he scored Northampton's second in a 2–1 away win over Bishop's Stortford in a televised FA Cup first round match on 10 November.
At the end of 2015, serious financial problems at the saw a number of first team regulars leave the union and Jamieson was among a number of youngsters that were promoted to the squad that competed in the 2016 Currie Cup qualification series. He was named on the bench for their first match of the season against the and came on as a replacement in the 54th minutes of a 14–37 defeat to make his first class debut. He made four more appearances off the bench during the season – finding himself behind Warrick Venter and Southern Kings loanee Martin Bezuidenhout in the pecking order – but made his first senior start on 28 May 2016 in a 35–all draw against the in Johannesburg.
With Stephen Bywater's return to the first team line up for the 2010–11 season, Deeney returned to the Derby bench. When Bywater injured his wrist in training in October 2010, Deeney was unable to take advantage and make a claim for a first team spot as he was granted compassionate leave the day before Derby's next game, against Preston North End, to visit his father in Northern Ireland, who had become seriously ill and later died Upon his return to availability, Deeney found himself kept out of the first team by loanee Frank Fielding and later the returning Stephen Bywater. In February 2011, Deeney ruptured a tendon in his shoulder ruling him out for five months and meaning he would complete the 2010–11 campaign without a single first team appearance.
In his fourth appearance for the club, Magennis scored his first professional goal during a 3–1 win over Bristol Rovers in the second round of the League Cup. The return of Ross McCormack and Warren Feeney from injury meant that Magennis fell down the pecking order at Cardiff and he was allowed to join League Two side Grimsby Town on a one-month loan deal on 15 October 2009 He made his debut against Rochdale on 17 October 2009, which was to be the last game managed by Mike Newell, who was sacked the following morning. Magennis made just one more appearance for the side before, on 29 October 2009, he was told that he and fellow loanee Arnaud Mendys loan contracts were to be terminated ahead of schedule.
On 23 April, Yeovil's penultimate home match of the season saw them face champions Northampton Town, they took an early lead through Bournemouth loanee Harry Cornick but Northampton equalised before half-time and the match ended in a 1–1 draw. Yeovil's final away match of the season saw them travel to Barnet, on 30 April, after a poor start to the match Yeovil trailed 2–0, before Matthew Dolan pulled a goal back but John Akinde soon restored Barnet's two goal advantage. Yeovil hit back through Nathan Smith's, second goal for the club and first since 2008, and equalised with fifteen minutes remaining through François Zoko. Then with seconds remaining a counter-attack saw Liam Walsh find Harry Cornick who scored to give Yeovil a 4–3 win.
The Blades signed Dave Kitson on deadline day. The Blades first competitive game of the season was a home League Cup tie against Burton Albion. Howard, Miller, Blackman, McMahon and McFadzean all made their first team débuts for United but with the game tied at 2–2 after extra time United lost on penalties for the second game in succession. The Blades began their league campaign with a home game against newly promoted Shrewsbury Town, winning 1–0 thanks to a goal from former Shrewsbury loanee David McAllister. A trip to Coventry City followed a few days later with United snatching a late goal for a 1–1 draw, with the same result being repeated the following Saturday as the Blades were held to another draw by Colchester United.
He made his debut for the club on 27 October 2011, coming on as a second-half substitute for Daniele Corvia in a 2–0 loss to Palermo. On his first start for the club the following month, against Cesena, Muriel was sent off for two bookable offences. Lecce hung on to claim a 1–0 victory, however, thanks to a goal from fellow countryman and Udinese-loanee, Juan Cuadrado. He improved to end the campaign with a return of seven goals in 29 appearances, though his efforts were not enough to prevent Lecce from being relegated to Serie B. His form during the course of the season garnered the attention of A.C. Milan and Internazionale, with both clubs making official offers to sign him, but Muriel confirmed that he would be returning to Udinese.
Despite the unfortunate error, Nigro's efforts in the match being a late replacement for the injured Williams would secure him a start in the grand final. Antonis, a former youth product and five seasoned player of Sydney, conceded the own goal in the last minute of regular time to bring the score to 2–2, leading to extra time. In the 117th minute, loanee teammate Kenny Athiu would pass the ball to Antonis, surviving three tackle attempts in running from the center line to within Sydney's eighteen yard box to score the winning goal, in what would later be recognized as the club's 2017–18 goal of the season. Victory would travel to Newcastle to face second placed Newcastle Jets, lead by former and inaugural Victory manager Ernie Merrick.
However, some players who had already been transferred away on a loan basis the year before, such as Luca Toni and José Sosa, were sold outright. Returning loanee Toni Kroos, who had also spent the last one-and-a-half years at Bayer Leverkusen, was the only notable "addition" to the squad. Bayern again had to deal with a string of injuries that befell key players, most notably Robben, who missed the whole first leg of the season due to a harmstring injury that he had picked up when preparing for the 2010 World Cup with the Netherlands. The team got off to a very poor start in the league, only securing eight points out of its first seven Bundesliga games and quickly conceding a substantial lead to eventual champions Borussia Dortmund.
David was drafted in the fourth round (76th overall) of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Released by the Whitecaps during training camp without a contract, he then signed with USL side Saint Louis FC on March 6, 2016. David made his debut with the club on March 26, appearing as a substitute in a match against the Real Monarchs. "...Tyler David and Chicago Fire loanee Drew Conner were subbed on in the second half against RSL to make their debuts..." After a season in Finland with Kakkonen club BK-46, David returned to the United States to join USL Championship side Hartford Athletic ahead of their inaugural season. On February 17, 2020, David moved to USL League One side Union Omaha ahead of their inaugural season as a club.
In July 2009, Neal made a permanent move from Preston, rejoining Paul Simpson's Shrewsbury Town for a nominal fee. He started the first four games of the 2009–10 season, but lost his place to loanee David Button due to a groin injury, and played just six further games that season. He began the 2010–11 campaign as the "Shrews" preferred keeper following an injury to rival Ben Smith, but lost his first team place in November after 20 appearances, and only played a handful of games thereafter as a fit again Smith was preferred by manager Graham Turner. He made his first League Two appearance of the 2011–12 season on 8 October, but remained between the sticks for the rest of the season, as Shrewsbury won promotion as the division's runners-up.
When a provision of law requires when repossession takes place, the lien holder has a non-delegatable obligation not to cause a Breach of the Peace (which is synonymous with disturbing the peace) in performing the repossession or the repossession will be reversed, and the party ordering the repossession will be liable for damages (or the lienholder will be held responsible). This requirement not to breach the peace includes even if the breach is caused by the debtor objecting to the repossession or resists the repossession. In MBank El Paso v. Sanchez (1992), 836 S.W.2d 151, where a repossession agent towed away a car even after the loanee locked herself in it, the court decided that this was an unlawful breach of the peace and declared the repossession invalid.
Shortly after the start of the 2004–05 season, Powell was allowed to move to West Ham United, where he played a major part in their successful promotion campaign. However, during the summer of 2005 he and West Ham were unable to agree terms for a further contract and he returned to Charlton on a one-year contract, with a suggestion that he would develop his coaching skills. Typically consistent performance belying his years throughout 2005–06 saw Powell regain his place as Charlton's first choice left back, rotated with loanee Jonathan Spector, due to Hermann Hreiðarsson's move to the centre of defence. On 1 July 2006 he signed a one- year contract with Premiership newcomers Watford as Aidy Boothroyd looked to add some experience to his youthful squad.
On 21 June 2018, he signed a long season contract with Belgian club Royal Excel Mouscron on loan from Saint-Étienne. At the end of the first round, it seems that it is not counted by the coach and former of the Olympiacos U21 team, Bernd Storck, for the second half of the season. After 8 appearances (7 of which in the starting squad) and 1 in the Belgian Cup, the young defender is expected to return to France. As Foot Sur 7 reported, the 20-year-old left-back has no place in Royal Excel Mouscron and will return to St-Etienne despite the fact that the coach Jean-Louis Gasset, who did not trust Katranis at the beginning of the season and preferred to gave him as a loanee.
The 2–0 victory at Bramall Lane saw Yeovil climb to eighth in the league table and to within a point of the play-off positions. Impressive performances from midfielders Kevin Dawson and Matthew Dolan on their league debuts at Sheffield United and in recognition of Paddy Madden's brace all three were included in the League One Team of the Week. On 17 January, Yeovil confirmed the signing of versatile defender/midfielder and former loanee Joe Edwards, from Bristol City on an 18-month contract for an undisclosed fee. Edwards's permanent debut was delayed due to Yeovil's league game against Preston North End, on 19 January, being postponed due to health and safety problems in the area surrounding the stadium because of heavy snowfall in the Yeovil area.
In a statement issued when the window closed, they said that "none of [those offers] reflected the ability and potential of the player", and expressed their pleasure at having retained his services. With loanee Lloyd Dyer available as an alternative, Rowett used Gray more sparingly, suggesting that his reduced effectiveness was a normal part of a young player's learning curve: the player needed to learn how to impose himself on a match despite increased attention from the opposition. The Birmingham Mail suggested that Gray's potential as a matchwinner should not be ignored. His solo goal on 11 April, in which he ran the length of the pitch to score the winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers, was his first since the Reading match and earned him the club's Goal of the Season award.
Eastwood, in stark contrast to his previous stint at the club, played every minute of United's 62 games in all competitions (the most competitive games played by any league team for the second season in succession) and was voted the club's Player of the Season by both fans and teammates at the end of the season. Maguire was the team's highest scorer with 17 goals in all competitions, with Hemmings chipping in with 15 and loanee McAleny scoring 10 in 18 League appearances in the second half of the season, including two hat- tricks. In total, Oxford scored 100 goals in all competitions. For the second year running, Oxford reached the final of the League Trophy at Wembley Stadium but finished runners-up in the competition, this time beaten 2–1 by Coventry City.
Wide-midfielder Danny Pugh then also joined on loan until the end of the season from fellow Championship side Leeds United. Meanwhile, loanee's Mamady Sidibé and Jérémy Hélan went back to their respective clubs – although it was widely known that Dave Jones was trying to re-capture Hélan, but it was then confirmed that he had joined Watford on loan instead. The game away to Charlton Athletic came as the last game of the first month of the year, and a debút was given to new- loanee Danny Pugh. The clash started off fairly quietly and evenly, and the first key chance fell to Sheffield Wednesday, as Danny Pugh's corner found Anthony Gardner completely unmarked at the far post, and after a touch from Michail Antonio the ball was cleared off the line.
Then with one-minute of normal time to go, Leroy Lita's shot took a large deflection and nestled into the other bottom corner. Lita had scored on his debút and given the Owls a vital victory and took them six-points clear of the relegation zone, while also ending Charlton's run of three successive wins. As the transfer deadline approached in January, it was confirmed that Barcelona B loanee Rodri was to return to his parent club by mutual consent after a largely unsuccessful spell at Sheffield Wednesday and failing to settle or adapt to the Championship. Elsewhere, while it was largely believed that Jérémy Hélan had joined Watford on loan, talks between the two parties had broken down and Hélan did return to Sheffield Wednesday after all.
In the 2005–06 season, Trofense played in the Portuguese Second Division, winning its group by six points. The club then progressed to a playoff that decided promotion to the second level, with Serie B winners A.D. Lousada; Trofense won in an emotional game, only decided on the 20th penalty, scored by goalkeeper Vítor. In 2007–08 (having finished 11th in the league the previous season), Trofense achieved a first ever promotion to the top division, and conquered its second piece of silverware, winning by a small margin over Rio Ave FC (the first four teams were separated by just two points). On 4 January 2009, Trofense managed an historical home win, beating S.L. Benfica 2–0, courtesy of Reguila and F.C. Porto loanee Hélder Barbosa, that then placed the side above the relegation zone.
Clark accused the players of failing to take responsibility, making it clear that he was "not sitting in the dressing room telling them not to tackle, to pussyfoot around, telling them to mis-place passes. They can't just hide behind me all the time, they've got to come out fighting." Butland produced what he described as the best performance of his career and Ravel Morrison, selected for the first time since August after problems with his attitude to training led Clark to consider terminating his loan, was influential as Birmingham narrowly failed to beat league leaders Leicester City. Away to Millwall, Birmingham went 3–0 down in a seven-minute spell in the first half, two of the three scored by former loanee Chris Wood, before Marlon King scored the first hat-trick of his senior career to secure the draw.
During the week, Bournemouth midfielder Josh Wakefield returned to his parent club after the completion of his loan spell, and in his place Yeovil re-signed Swansea City player Josh Sheehan on loan until 28 December following a spell on loan at the end of the 2014–15 season. He made his second debut for the club on 26 September, in Yeovil's 2–1 home defeat to Hartlepool United, with Yeovil's goal coming courtesy of Ryan Bird's fourth of the season. On 29 September, Yeovil traveled to Accrington Stanley and despite a long range strike from loanee Josh Sheehan, Yeovil suffered another 2–1 defeat. Yeovil ended the month with a first round tie in the Somerset Premier Cup, with a team entirely made up of the club's youth team winning 3–2 away at Southern Premier League side Paulton Rovers.
Before the match the club had confirmed the extension of Bournemouth loanee Harry Cornick's loan for a further month. Yeovil's next game saw them play fellow struggles Dagenham & Redbridge, despite being two-nil down after 65 minutes the Glovers battled back to salvage a point with goals from top goalscorer Ryan Bird and a first for the club from defender Jakub Sokolík. After the match the club confirmed that left midfielder Jake Howells had returned to parent club Luton Town at the end of his loan spell, while Connor Roberts extended his loan spell from Swansea City for a further month. Yeovil lost two matches in four days, first 2–0 away at Notts County, and then 1–0 at home to Mansfield Town after conceding in the tenth minute of injury time as Yeovil slipped into the relegation zone.
Ryan Flynn signed a new contract in May. April started in controversial fashion as United played out a 0–0 draw with Brentford, as the referee initially sent off loanee Kieron Freeman and gave a penalty for a challenge in the area, only to rescind both decisions a few minutes later after consulting with the referee's assistant. United's next game also ended in a draw as they were held 1–1 at Bramall Lane by Leyton Orient, and with Kieron Freeman's loan deal due to expire, it was extended until the end of the season. With a visit to Wembley Stadium on the horizon, Blades were 1–0 victors in the South Yorkshire derby against Rotherham United at Bramall Lane on 8 April, despite fielding a largely reserve side, with Ben Davies converting a 90th-minute penalty.
As the players reported back from the post-season break, the club confirmed that ex-Watford midfielder John Eustace, a player who had a previous loan spell at the Rams in 2009 and American college winger Marcus Selandy- Defour had before joined the club on trials. Conor Doyle, a player who struggled to break into the Derby team was linked with Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids for a six-month loan, however the MLS rules on player registrations complicated the move. He later joined D.C. United on a loan until the start of December, when a buying option for D.C. lapses. Derby won their first pre-season game at Irish-based Bohemians 6–1 through a brace from Johnny Russell, with returning loanee Callum Ball, Ben Davies, Paul Coutts and Conor Sammon netting the other four in the second half.
Kieftenbeld appeared regularly as the team reached seventh place, just outside the play-off positions, by mid- December, when Rowett was sacked and replaced by Gianfranco Zola. Kieftenbeld initially lost his place after the arrival of loanee Craig Gardner in January, as Zola experimented with personnel and formations in midfield. He came back into the side for Birmingham's first win under the new manager, at home to Fulham on 4 February, scored his only goal of the season three weeks later with an opportunist effort in a 2–1 win away to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and retained his starting place thereafter. After Zola resigned in April, Kieftenbeld played all but a couple of minutes of the remaining three matches under Harry Redknapp's management as Birmingham avoided relegation by winning at Bristol City on the final day of the season.
Young hooker and academy product Reiss Butterworth signed for Super League side Huddersfield Giants on a 3 Year Deal after not featuring for the Bradford side in 2018. 2018 loanee Mikey Wood also put pen to paper on a permanent deal as he signed a 1 Year contract to join the Bulls for 2019 from the Huddersfield Giants. Continuing to recruit for the new season the Bulls announced the capture of seasoned hooker/halfback Matty Wildie on a 1 Year Deal from RFL Championship side Featherstone Rovers. Following this, the Bulls announced that hooker Vila Halafihi had departed the club later to sign a 1 Year Deal at Hunslet R.L.F.C.. Further good news was released by the club as winger Jy Hitchcox signed a 2 Year Deal with the club from Castleford Tigers despite interest from Toronto Wolfpack and London Broncos.
The season was overshadowed by loanee Martin Pringle's footballing career being ended after a leg-breaking tackle by Stockport County defender Dave Challinor, as well as the collapse of ITV Digital putting enormous strain on finances. The 2002–03 season, was a disaster for Grimsby Town; Mariners boss Paul Groves attempted to bolster his side as well as he could, veteran footballers Darren Barnard and Steve Chettle amongst others were brought to the club, and such players as Steve Kabba, Richard Hughes and returning hero John Oster all played some part in the season. The club couldn't avoid relegation and Grimsby finished bottom of Division One and were relegated after five successive seasons at this level. Indeed, only one of their previous 12 seasons had been spent outside it and have never returned to this level.
A youthful Forest side saw them lose 3–0 to Kidderminster and a first team lost 1–0 to Peterborough, last season loanee George Boyd getting the goal for Peterborough. Forest displayed an impressive performance against top European side Lyon, despite losing 3–1, and then went on to lose against Swindon in the final pre-season game, Kelvin Wilson on return from injury scoring an own goal. This completed Forest's programme of pre-season fixtures and was followed by Forest's first new arrival. Ryan Bertrand came to Forest on loan from Chelsea, until the turn of the year. A day before Forest kicked off their season opener they let Julian Bennett go out on loan to fellow Championship side Crystal Palace for 6 months to help him get game time after being out with an injury for 18 months.
Ahead of the new season, the club's acting chairman insisted that, despite financial problems, neither Redmond nor goalkeeper Jack Butland were for sale "unless we are subject to an eye-popping offer". Redmond aimed to establish himself as a first-team regular. He made his 50th senior appearance in the 1–0 win at Brighton & Hove Albion in October, but soon afterwards, Birmingham signed West Ham United winger Robert Hall on loan, and Redmond was sometimes left out of the squad. According to new manager Lee Clark, Redmond "needed to be taken out of the firing line and would be better for it"; he made comparisons with loanee Ravel Morrison, who had been encouraged to understand the importance of "the whole package, getting it right – the training, the preparation, the matches, getting that all put in place".
Bridge began his career with Southend United at the age of nine and signed his first professional contract with the club in April 2014. Bridge went on loan to Soham Town Rangers in November 2014 and experienced his first taste of first team football, scoring two goals in five starts in his time at the club. After it was reported that Bridge was on the radar of clubs bigger in stature than Soham, Bridge signed for Chelmsford City in January 2015 on an initial one-month loan deal which was later extended to the end of the season. On 22 January 2016, Bridge returned to Chelmsford City alongside fellow Southend loanee Jason Williams. Bridge scored, assisted and was named Man of the Match on his return to the club in a 4–3 win against Whitehawk a day later.
The "Lilywhites" were relegated into the Third Division (fourth tier) under new manager John Beck in 1992–93; they occupied the final relegation place having finished three points below Hull City. Preston then finished fifth in 1993–94, and reached the Wembley play-off Final, where they lost out 4–2 to Wycombe Wanderers. They again finished fifth in 1994–95, with the help of young Manchester United loanee David Beckham, but missed out on the 1995 play-off Final after they lost out to Bury at the semi-final stage. North End achieved promotion at the third time, winning the Third Division title in 1995–96 by a three-point margin, under Gary Peters' stewardship. Kidd was a key first team member in 1996–97, making 40 appearances as Preston retained their third tier status.
Loanee Diego Fabbrini made his debut in the playmaker role at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, wearing a protective mask over the broken nose that forced him to miss the Bournemouth match. The prolific Benik Afobe gave the visitors an early lead, but Birmingham took the win with goals from a Kiernan header – after Grounds' shot crossed the line unnoticed by the officials and was pushed back into play – and Gray's solo run from deep in his own half, which won the club's Goal of the Season award. Birmingham twice came from behind to draw with Blackburn Rovers; both Grounds and Gray scored their second in three days, but this time Grounds' effort was allowed. Shinnie returned in place of Fabbrini, ineligible to play against his parent club, and came close to scoring as Birmingham held out for nearly an hour at Watford.
Later in the day, in Yeovil's opening league match against Coventry City the club fell behind early from a Cody McDonald header, before Richard Hinds scored his third goal in a week as the game ended in a 1–1 draw. The following Tuesday, Yeovil's first away game saw a trip to Brentford in an eventful game Yeovil ran out 3–1 victors thanks to a brace from James Hayter and a penalty save from Marek Štěch. Hinds's goal scoring form and impressive performances earned him a place in the League One Team of the Week. On 23 August, Chelsea youngster Archange Nkumu joined the club on a one-month loan deal as cover for injured fellow Chelsea loanee Rohan Ince, and Curtis Haynes-Brown left the club to join League Two side AFC Wimbledon on a one-month loan deal.
Brighton & Hove Albion were the visitors at Hillsborough Stadium for the first game in February. Brighton had only lost twice in their last sixteen games, but it was Wednesday who started the brighter of the two teams and got their reward after just five-minutes when a cross from Michail Antonio found loanee Leroy Lita whose effort hit the top corner of the goal to score his second goal in as many appearances for the club. Brighton almost immediately hit back though when a free-kick found Brighton's new signing Leonardo Ulloa whose strike was smartly saved by Chris Kirkland. After this Brighton & Hove Albion pushed for the equaliser, but a late and vicious challenge near the Brighton box by Ashley Barnes saw him see a straight red card, this putting the game back into Sheffield Wednesday's favour.
The resulting free-kick was taken by other new loanee Danny Pugh who managed to score from the tight angle to double the Owls' lead. Into the second half and Leroy Lita came close before great work by Brighton substitute Craig Mackail- Smith, along with a poor clearance, saw a strike by Andrea Orlandi smash the back of the net to make the score 2–1. However, just two-minutes later at the other end of the field, and a clever corner saw Michail Antonio manage to just tap home to give Wednesday their two-goal cushion back. Then with fifteen- minutes to go a late challenge by Danny Pugh, which analysts believe the referee to have opted the right punishment of a yellow card, caused disagreements and a scuffle on the touchline between coaching staff of both clubs.
Kuszczak returned to the side for the Second City derby against Aston Villa, who had recently appointed former Birmingham captain and manager Steve Bruce as their manager. Despite Birmingham's domination of possession, it was Villa who took a first-half lead; Birmingham's shooting was wasteful, with Donaldson particularly profligate. Davis equalised after 71 minutes with a driven shot from the edge of the penalty area. After a strong performance on his first start, loanee left back Rhoys Wiggins' season was ended by a knee injury sustained in an accidental collision in stoppage time. Birmingham recovered from a weak first half and 1–0 down after an hour to draw away to third-placed Huddersfield Town when Grounds kept the ball in play to set up a chance for Jutkiewicz to score with a well-placed header.

Following a successful international season with France, Rennes decided it would be best to send the young player on loan to receive some much needed playing time. On 3 July 2009, the club announced that Brahimi would join Ligue 2 club Clermont Foot on loan for the entire 2009–10 season. Brahimi arrived at the club following the 2009 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship, alongside fellow loanee from Juventus Carlo Vecchione, and was assigned the number 28 shirt. He made his professional debut on the opening match day of the season appearing as a substitute in a 2–1 defeat to Arles-Avignon. He scored his first goal for the club on 25 September converting a penalty in the club's 3–2 win over Angers. Brahimi's first goal in open play occurred on 4 December in Clermont's 3–1 win away to Bastia.
But just three minutes later Martin Taylor equalised through hesitant defending from a free-kick. ;Matchday Thirty-Six – Barnsley 0–1 Blackpool A solitary goal on 70 minutes by Wednesday loanee Wade Small piled the pressure on Simon Davey as the Reds sunk into the bottom three. ;Matchday Thirty-Seven – Barnsley 3–1 Crystal Palace Palace took the lead through Shefki Kuqi early on but goals from Jamal Campbell-Ryce, an own goal by Palace youngster Lee Hills and Michael Mifsud gave the Reds a vital three points. ;Matchday Thirty-Eight – Derby County 0–0 Barnsley The Reds dominated much of the game against Derby but were left frustrated as they missed numerous chances to take all three points at Pride Park. ;Matchday Thirty-Nine – Barnsley 1–1 Nottingham Forest After a goalless first half Jamal Campbell-Ryce gave the reds the lead in this battle between two strugglers.
On 23 January, Yeovil faced Crawley Town and thanks to goals from substitutes Tahvon Campbell and Ryan Bird won 2–1 to record their second consecutive home victory. The following week, striker Mark Beck departed the club on loan to National League side Wrexham until the end of the season, Bournemouth winger Harry Cornick having recovered from his injury rejoined the club on an initial one-month loan deal and West Brom loanee Tahvon Campbell extended his loan until 3 March. Yeovil ended the month with a trip to AFC Wimbledon and despite falling behind twice in the first half a hat-trick from winger Jack Compton earned Yeovil a 3–2 victory. The hat-trick was the first by a Yeovil player since Shaun MacDonald in March 2011, while the game also featured the return of Simon Gillett after more than year out through injury.
In a month with a punishing eight matches to be played, Torquay had to be at full strength if they were to make any kind of push for promotion. With that in mind, Paul Buckle once again dipped into the loan market. Although current loanee Ryan Gilligan unfortunately had to make an early return to Northampton following a family bereavement, Buckle was able to make an immediate replacement in the form of young Derby midfielder Ben Pringle. Shortly afterwards, Plainmoor also saw the arrival of two loan strikers in Ronan Murray from Ipswich Town and Gavin Tomlin of Dagenham & Redbridge. With Buckle eventually negotiating for both forwards to remain with Torquay until the end of the season, the Gulls now had a variety of attacking options with the likes of Jake Robinson, Chris Zebroski, Eunan O’Kane and Billy Kee already causing problems to opposition defences.
Stockdale completed his move to Fulham on 4 June 2008 on a two-year contract; the fee was undisclosed, but reported as £350,000 potentially rising to £600,000. He returned to League Two after joining Rotherham United on a one-month loan on 21 November. He made his debut a day later in a 2–0 defeat to Bradford City, and in his next match, a 1–1 draw away at Exeter City, he saved a Ben Watson penalty and made a late save from a Ryan Harley header. The loan deal was extended for a further month, and he finished the spell with eight appearances, all in league competition. Leicester City in 2009 On 2 March 2009, Stockdale joined League One club Leicester City on a one-month loan as cover for senior goalkeepers David Martin and Paul Henderson after previous loanee Mark Bunn was recalled by parent club Blackburn Rovers.
Picak was promoted to Dinamo Zagreb's first team in the summer of 2009, becoming the third-choice goalkeeper behind Tomislav Butina and Filip Lončarić after the club's previous second-choice goalkeeper, Ivan Kelava, was loaned to Lokomotiva Zagreb. He made his competitive debut for the first team on 6 December 2009 in Dinamo's 4–1 away win at NK Međimurje in the Croatian First League, playing the whole match due to injuries to both Butina and Lončarić. In January 2010, Picak was sent to Lokomotiva Zagreb with whom he initially signed a stipend contract. He did not appear in any competitive matches for the club until the end of the 2009–10 season, playing for the U19 team and serving as back-up for fellow Dinamo Zagreb loanee Ivan Kelava, and the club signed a 7-year professional contract with him in August 2010.
For the second week in a row, Parma played out a goalless draw with few moments of note. Not even the return from injury of loanee Sergio Floccari could spark a Parma revival, but another man returning from injury, Francesco Modesto, did come off the bench to make his 300th career appearance, while club captain Stefano Morrone made his 150th league appearance for the club. Sebastian Giovinco and Cristian Zaccardo both went off with injuries during the match. On 18 December, Parma hosted Lecce in a match that was set to be the last before Christmas break, but the re-organised Matchday 1 game was now to be played during the week that followed. Jonathan Biabiany's 18th minute run into the box was halted unfairly by the Lecce defence, leading to a chance from the spot for Sergio Floccari who duly converted to bag his first goal for the club.
At the end of the 2009–10 season, Birmingham released first-team players Gary McSheffrey, Grégory Vignal, Franck Queudrue and Lee Carsley, and chose not to sign loanee Christian Benítez on a permanent basis. Goalkeeper Joe Hart returned to parent club Manchester City, to be replaced by Birmingham's first signing of the new season, Manchester United's Ben Foster, who joined for an estimated initial fee of £4 million. Next to arrive was striker Nikola Žigić, who signed from Valencia shortly before joining up with the Serbian national team at the World Cup. After young Spanish midfielder Enric Vallès joined on a one-year contract and Matt Derbyshire returned to England on loan from Olympiacos, there were no more signings until transfer deadline day, when Barcelona midfielder Alexander Hleb arrived on a season- long loan and Chilean winger Jean Beausejour and Spartak Moscow captain and defender Martin Jiránek agreed permanent deals.
In December, the club and Mecklenburg County broke ground on renovations to American Legion Memorial Stadium that will upgrade the facility and create a home ground for the Independence through a ten-year lease, with the opening scheduled for Spring of 2021. In January, the club announced that they were retaining seven players from the previous year's roster, while also acknowledging that longtime club presence Alex Martínez would not be among the returnees. Later signings in January included a Congolese midfielder with Ligue 2 experience at AS Béziers (Junior Etou), the 2017 USLC Golden Boot winner Dane Kelly, as well as two rookies (Oscar Ramsay and Casey Penland) from the team's Invitational Combine. Acquisitions continued apace in February as the club signed a veteran defender (Duke Lacroix), a UNC Charlotte alum with Championship goalkeeping experience (Austin Pack), and a former loanee winger (Derek Gebhard).
Born in Norbury, Harriott attended Stanley Technical High School and St.Andrews C of E high school in Croydon. He made his debut for the Addicks on 25 April 2011 in a League One game against Rochdale at The Valley, which ended in a 3–1 win for Charlton. He came on as a late substitute for loanee Dean Parrett. He then started his first game for the club two days later on the last game of the 2010–11 season against Hartlepool. Although he did not feature for the Charlton first-team in their 2011–12 promotion season, he made his Championship debut after coming off the bench as a 74th-minute substitute for fellow academy graduate Scott Wagstaff in a 2–1 win against Blackpool. He then scored his first senior goal on 9 March 2013, in a 1–0 win away to Huddersfield Town.
Brentford moved into second position after a 2–0 victory over Bournemouth on Boxing Day and consistently good results kept the club on the tail of leaders Wycombe Wanderers through January and early February 2009. A 1–1 draw with Accrington Stanley on 10 February moved the Bees moved into top spot and consistently good results, aided by the goalscoring of January loan acquisition Jordan Rhodes, kept the club at the summit into mid-March. Brentford and Wycombe Wanderers faced off at Griffin Park on 14 March in front of a season-high crowd of 10,642 and the match yielded a 3–3 draw, with Aston Villa loanee Sam Williams "smashing in" late in proceedings to salvage a point for the Bees. Three days later, a home defeat to Chesterfield was Brentford's first loss for six weeks, but the club remained at the top of the table.
The sides form improved through December, with the team building a four match winning run on the back of a poor 2-0 defeat to Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle on 30 November. However, the final two matches of 2016 saw the side collect only one point from a possible six with a draw away to St Johnstone and defeat in the third Old Firm derby of the season. This left the club second in the table going into 2017 and the mid-season break, two points ahead of third placed Aberdeen although the latter did have a game in hand. The January transfer window saw the club released several former youth prospects who had failed to meet expectations, while Warburton brought in two young loanee signings from English Premier League sides in the shape of Emerson Hyndman and Jon Toral from Bournemouth and Arsenal respectively.
After receiving the player of the season award, Coulton attracted interest from higher leagues and subsequently signed for St Albans City. He made his City debut with an excellent display in the Herts Charity Cup final win over Bishop's Stortford in April 2013. On 25 August 2013 he made his debut as a loanee for Berkhamsted. He kicked off the 2014–15 season as St Albans City warder in the Herts Charity Cup victory over Ware on 2 August 2014, and went on to make another six displays that season, before going to Ware on dual registration terms in January 2015. St Albans City released him at the end of the campaign, before being signed by Cockfosters in July 2015. However, joint Saints manager James Gray changed his mind and re-signed him and fielded him in the Herts Charity Cup away at Ware on 4 August 2015.
Aiming to finally get their first win of the season, Bolton kicked off at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road. Striker Jermaine Beckford hit the woodwork, while Kevin McNaughton and Neil Danns made their debuts and Liam Feeney earned his first start, but Bolton could not break the deadlock and the game finished 0–0, giving Bolton just their third clean sheet away from home since their win against QPR on the opening day of the 2011–12 season and ending Blackpool's season-long run of scoring in every match. After naming an unchanged side for the game against Birmingham City, Bolton took the lead with Jermaine Beckford's first league goal of the season before loanee Neil Danns scored against his former club to double the lead. Bolton were pegged back by substitute Nikola Žigić's header which looped over Ádám Bogdán, but held on to earn their first win of the season.
As the game remained very even with equally as good chances falling to both teams it was with twenty- minutes to go when Lewis Buxton sent in a cross, Michail Antonio flicked on and a volley by loanee Connor Wickham gave Sheffield Wednesday a vital lead. As the clock ticked on towards full-time a Leicester City corner saw Andy King's header hit the outside of the post and go wide. Fortunately for the Owls it was the last piece of major action in the game and Sheffield Wednesday gained a vital victory on the road to safety. Onto the weekend of 16 March, Sheffield Wednesday faced top of the league Cardiff City at home, this was the last game of the run where Wednesday faced five of the top six teams in the league, it was also the last game before the international break.
Birmingham's first away point of the season came at Nottingham Forest. Substitute Elliott set up King, whose shot was parried to Hayden Mullins who volleyed home from just inside the penalty area, and Nathan Redmond avoided two tackles to cross for King who doubled the lead after 71 minutes. Simon Cox controlled a long aerial ball with one touch and lobbed Butland with a second, and with four minutes remaining, man-of-the- match Pablo Ibáñez deflected the ball into his own net. Loanee Leroy Lita opened the scoring on his home debut in Birmingham's second league win, against Bolton Wanderers, but only days after Stephen Carr was sidelined for six months by knee surgery, Caddis dislocated a shoulder, leaving the team without a recognised right back. The attendance, of 14,693, was their lowest home league crowd for 15 years; according to the Birmingham Mail, fans blamed high ticket prices and financial uncertainty surrounding the club's ownership.
Júnior got off to a good start at Derby, forming a talented partnership up front with Charlton loanee Mathias Svensson, but Svensson was recalled by Charlton. Júnior then injured a cruciate knee ligament in September, and, when he had recovered, he did not get much of a chance to play. He moved to Rotherham United (on loan) and to Watford, who sold him due to a problem with legal paperwork and his apparent lack of correct personal permits. Júnior then moved to Denmark in October 2005, to Odense Boldklub. He scored 9 goals in 16 matches before being sold to Swedish club Malmö FF on 1 July 2006. He scored 17 goals in 38 appearances for Malmö FF, increasing his reputation in Sweden. On 16 April 2007, he famously scored Malmö's 3000th goal in Swedish league history, when he scored the opening goal against GAIS after one minute. F.C. Copenhagen signed José Junior on 31 January 2008.
An early kick-off at Oakwell, with the game being on Sky Sports, and both relegation threatened teams started well but it was the Owls' away faithful that had thought they had scored when loanee Roger Johnson's header hit the side netting. Seven- minutes later and Réda Johnson was tackled while in possession of the ball at the back, leading Barnsley to quickly counterattack. Marcus Pedersen decided to quickly shoot from outside the area and his fierce shot hit the post so hard it came back out to around 30-yards from goal where the ball was passed, in the air, straight back to Marcus Pedersen whose touch set him up for a fantastic volley inside the area that riffled into the top of the net giving Chris Kirkland no chance. Jérémy Hélan soon came close to putting the Owls back level though, as he took on a player but his shot was so close to being on target, but instead hit the side netting.
The squad commenced their summer training camp on the island of Malta and their next fixture saw them record a comfortable 6–0 victory over local side Zejtun Corinthians. As the training camp continued Chris Morgan announced during a question and answer session with the fans in attendance that he had decided to retire from playing due to a recurrent injury, and that he would now focus solely on his role as reserve-team coach. The following day United confirmed that Kevin McDonald had signed a new two-year contract, the news coming a couple of hours before the Blades were held to a 0–0 draw by Maltese side Hibernians. Back in the UK, and with July almost over, United made a triple signing, handing two-year deals to defenders Tony McMahon who had been released by Middlesbrough, and former loanee Matt Hill who had left Blackpool, along with signing striker Shaun Miller for an undisclosed fee from Crewe Alexandra.
Winger Romone Rose became the second loanee from Neil Warnock's QPR, signing a three-month deal, while the young Wolves striker Ashley Hemmings joined Torquay, like Oastler, on a one-month contract. On the pitch, Torquay struggled to get back to the early season form which saw them spend the whole of August at the top of the League Two table. Although a creditable 1-1 draw away to in-form Shrewsbury Town seemed to point to an improvement in the team's performances, the Gulls were then to crash out three days later to Swindon Town in the Second Round of the Johnstone Paints Trophy (although, the fact that several of Torquay's first choice regulars were rested for the match indicated that the League Trophy was not high on Paul Buckle's list of priorities). Astonishingly, Torquay then managed to scrape only a 3-3 draw away to Crewe and then lose 4-3 at home to Bury, despite going 2-0 ahead in both matches.
The 1980s was not a good decade for the club, being relegated from Allsvenskan in 1981, and losing two promotion play-offs, before making a one- year visit in the highest league in 1986, although DIF returned two years later, and stayed in Allsvenskan for five consecutive seasons, but had no greater success except losing the Championship final in 1988. In 1987, Djurgårdens IF Fotboll presented a 12 million SEK deficit and later transformed into an aktiebolag. Former England striker Teddy Sheringham had a brief spell at Djurgården early in his career, as a 19-year-old loanee in 1985, and was part of the squad that won the promotion to Allsvenskan after beating GAIS in a dramatic penalty shoot-out in the playoffs. The 1990s started off well for Djurgården and in 1990 the team won the Svenska Cupen (Swedish Cup) for the first time and took Djurgårdens biggest ever win when they defeated local rival Hammarby with 9-1 in Allsvenskan on August 13th.
Roberto Santamaría, nuevo portero del Girona (Roberto Santamaría, new Girona goalkeeper); Girona FC, 12 August 2010 (in Spanish) He continued to compete in that tier in the following years, representing SD Ponferradina (two spells), Osasuna, RCD Mallorca, CF Reus Deportiu and SD Huesca. Santamaría entered Huesca's first season in La Liga as second-choice behind Atlético Madrid loanee Axel Werner, and moved further down the depth chart when Serbian Aleksandar Jovanović was signed from Danish club Aarhus Gymnastikforening at the end of August. He was given his debut in the competition against Valencia CF on 23 December 2018 – aged 33 years and 10 months – by manager Francisco Rodríguez after the team had let in 40 goals in 18 competitive fixtures, making six saves in the 1–2 away defeat and being beaten by Cristiano Piccini with the last kick of the game. On 27 November 2019, Santamaría moved to Rayo Vallecano in the second division, agreeing to a deal until the end of the season.
Shaban came on as a substitute in both games while Miya was substituted but scored Uganda's only goal in the third game; Uganda drew 1–1 with Mali in the third group game to register at least a point after a 39-year absence from the continental showpiece. Also on Onduparaka's squad is KCCA loanee Caesar Okhuti who is no stranger to being a hot newcomer especially after he took the nation by storm with another Arua club called Ediofe Hills FC in 2007 and was called up to the national team. Other players on the 2017 Onduparaka team included: Richard Anyama (goalkeeper formerly at Saints FC), Nisar Kasim (another Goalkeeper), Alex Gasper Adriko (aka The Rock), Norman Saddam, Rashid Toha, Gibson Adinho, Akram Kakembo, Ivan Mbowa, Ibrahim Faizul (aka Anini), Sabir Simba, Dickens Okwir, Mohammad Rashid, Ajobe Toto, Denis Andama, Rashid Agau, Living Kabon, Wahab Ajuman Gaddafi Gadinho and Fahd Muhammad Toko.
Irish midfielder Kevin Dawson joined the club from Shelbourne during the January transfer window. The opening of the January transfer window saw Yeovil complete the free transfer of Irish midfielder Kevin Dawson on a contract until the end of the season from League of Ireland side Shelbourne, the signing came too late for Dawson to be permitted to feature in Yeovil's New Year's Day fixture against Leyton Orient. A brace from Paddy Madden and a goal for top scorer James Hayter led Yeovil to a 3–0 victory over Leyton Orient, the result saw Yeovil climb to 9th place in the League One table and to within three points of the play-off positions. Following the game the club confirmed the permanent signing of Carlisle United loanee Madden on two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee following the completion of his highly successful loan spell scoring nine goals in sixteen appearances for the Glovers.
On 14 July 2018, AEK Athens and Braga agreed terms for the loan move of Alef to the Greek champions, until the summer of 2019. Under contract at Braga, the 23-year old defensive midfielder spent the last season as a loanee in Cyprus, impressing with runners-up Apollon Limassol. Despite his strong performances with Apollon Limassol, Alef is surplus to requirements at Braga and AEK decided to pounce. According to reports, the reigning Greek champions have struck a deal with Braga, agreeing to sign Alef on loan for the upcoming season with the player holding a release clause of €2 million which can be activated next year.Έκλεισε Αλέφ η ΑΕΚΑυγουστή: «Τυχερή η ΑΕΚ, άρχοντας και διαμάντι ο Αλεφ»Αλεφ: Ένα χαφ made in Brazil που «δένει» το κέντρο της ΑΕΚ On 20 January 2019, Alef netted with a tap in following Dmytro Chygrynskiy’s headed pass in a comfortable 3–0 home win game against Asteras Tripolis.
3 August 2018: The first match of the Football League season pits Frank Lampard's Derby County against Reading. Jon Dadi Bodvarsson scores the first goal of the new season, but goals from Chelsea loanee Mason Mount and an injury-time winner from Tom Lawrence gives the Rams a 2–1 win. 4 August 2018: The first Saturday of the Football League season sees newly relegated West Brom lose 2–1 to a Bolton Wanderers side who were nearly relegated themselves last year. Among other Championship action, newly-promoted Wigan defeat Shefffield Wednesday 3–2, and Graham Potter makes a winning start as Swansea manager by beating Sheffield United 2–1 away. In League One, Sunderland come from behind to defeat Charlton 2–1 in their first game at this level in 30 years, and in League Two, Swindon Town stun newly-promoted Macclesfield 3–2 with two stoppage-time penalties. 6 August 2018: Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer becomes the first managerial casualty of the new season when handing in his resignation after just one game played.
After impressing for Manchester United in the 2010–11 pre-season, King joined Football League Championship side Preston North End – managed by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's son, Darren – on a three-month loan deal on 7 August 2010, becoming Preston's 1,000th player and linking up with fellow United loanee Matty James. He made his debut the next day, coming on as a 70th-minute substitute for Paul Hayes in Preston's 2–0 defeat by Doncaster Rovers on the opening day of the 2010–11 season. King's first goal for Preston came in his second match, a League Cup first round tie against Stockport County on 10 August; after coming on as a 72nd-minute substitute for Chris Brown, he intercepted a goal kick from Andy Lonergan and curled the ball past the Stockport goalkeeper, making the final score 5–0. He had earlier added an assist after running 60 yards down the right wing and crossing for Paul Hayes' second goal – the fourth of the match.
Brentford began the season with a disappointing 1–0 defeat at the hands of Walsall in the League Cup first round and hovered around mid-table in League One before coming into form in late October 2012. New forward Paul Hayes failed to produce regular goals and was replaced by Huddersfield Town loanee Jimmy Spencer, who in turn was replaced by Marcello Trotta and the Italian would remain with the Bees for the duration of the season on loan from West London rivals Fulham. Inspired by the form of attacking midfielder Harry Forrester, an unbeaten run of 9 wins and four draws in 13 matches between 23 October 2012 and 21 January 2013 firmly established the Bees as challengers for automatic promotion, rising as high as 2nd position in the table. Headway was also made in the FA Cup during the same period, with victories over Boreham Wood, Bradford City and Southend United setting up a fourth round tie versus West London neighbours Chelsea at Griffin Park on 27 January.
Kenny initially joined Neil Warnock's Sheffield United on loan as cover for injured keeper Simon Tracey. He made his debut for the "Blades" in a 2–1 defeat to Coventry City at Highfield Road on 10 August 2002, and subsequently went on to become first choice goalkeeper. After three months the loan deal was made permanent for a £45,000 fee. On 26 May 2003, he played at the Millennium Stadium in the Division One play-off final, as United lost 3–0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was voted United's Player of the Season in 2002–03 after keeping goal as United reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and League Cup, where they were beaten by Arsenal and Liverpool respectively. He was injured for three months of the 2003–04 season, but upon his recovery he regained his first team place from loanee Paul Gerrard. Kenny featured 48 times in the 2004–05 season as United finished six points outside the play-off places. He played every minute of United's promotion campaign to the Premier League in 2005–06.
After two minutes of the home fixture with top-of-the-table Watford, Donaldson's deflected shot produced Birmingham's first goal for more than a month; Watford soon equalised, then with five minutes left, Donaldson headed home from Cotterill's cross to secure a second home league win of the season. A goalless draw with Cardiff City featured disallowed goals for former Birmingham loanee Federico Macheda and substitute Wes Thomas, who was sent off late in the game for striking an opponent. At Rotherham United, Rowett first picked the starting eleven which was to become his regular selection of choice: in a 4–2–3–1 formation, Randolph in goal, Caddis, Morrison, Robinson and Grounds as a flat back four, Davis and Gleeson in defensive midfield, Cotterill and Gray wide, Shinnie in the hole, and Donaldson as lone striker. Birmingham twice hit the post and missed numerous other chances before Donaldson had time to control the rebound from his saved shot and shoot more accurately for the only goal of the game, and a win that took Birmingham out of the relegation places.
Sam Foley's performance against Stevenage saw him earn a place in the League One Team of the Week. Yeovil began April, with an Easter Monday fixture away at Notts County, Yeovil claimed a crucial 2–1 victory which reinvigorated their play-off aspirations courtesy of goals from topscorer Paddy Madden and a quality free-kick from Middlesbrough loanee Matthew Dolan on his first start of his second loan spell. On 4 April, the club announced that it would axe its youth academy at the end of the season, citing expense and a lack of progress on a proposed Huish Park development plan as reasons. This followed the closure of the Centre of Excellence at the end of the 2011–12 season which had been closed because the investment and facilities required by the Premier League's Elite Player Performance Plan scheme were not available. On 6 April, Yeovil faced Shrewsbury Town at home and won a tight game 2–1 thanks to a James Hayter penalty and a "stunning solo effort" from top goalscorer Paddy Madden.
International players such as South African Lebogang Moloto, Brazilian Vini Dantas, Haitian Max Touloute, Jamaican Ryan Thompson, and Canadian Tyler Pasher were signed to the heavily revamped roster while Colombian José Angulo, 2013 league MVP, former record-holding goalscorer, and the Riverhounds' top scorer the previous two seasons, left the club and signed with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League. Another of Nightingale's first orders of business was dissolving the affiliation with the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer which was entered into the previous season, stating that the club preferred to remain without an MLS affiliate to have more autonomy and freedom with their own roster. However, former Dynamo loanee Anthony Arena returned to the club by signing outright with Pittsburgh after being released by the Dynamo at the end of the 2014 MLS season. The Riverhounds finished the 2015 preseason undefeated, getting results of four wins and one draw in five matches. The club continued its impressive performances into the regular season, earning a 5–2 opening day victory over the Harrisburg City Islanders on March 28, 2015.
The eighteen-year-old held his nerve in front of over 30,000 spectators and no goals were scored in the brief period he was on the pitch. Later in the year he had a loan spell at local non-league side Stafford Rangers. After recovering from a twisted ankle, Tomlinson's next senior game was at Sincil Bank on 23 August 2005, where he replaced loanee Ben Williams at half-time. Lincoln City knocked the "Railwaymen" out of the League Cup, putting two past Williams and three past Tomlinson for a 5–2 victory. His first start came in the FA Cup Third Round clash at Deepdale on 7 January 2006, the home side coming out 2–1 winners. He played his first Championship game on 28 January, replacing Ross Turnbull at half-time; Watford put two past each men for a 4–1 win. After signing a one-year contract extension in March, Tomlinson got his first league start on 30 April, as Crewe beat Millwall 4–2, Ben May scoring both of the "Lions" goals. In May 2006, Burton Albion put in a request to sign Tomlinson to a season long loan.
In the summer of 2019, Ricketts made more notable signings to strengthen the squad for the upcoming 2019–20 season, bringing in players such as Jason Cummings from Nottingham Forest, Sean Goss from Queens Park Rangers, Donald Love from Sunderland, Ethan Ebanks-Landell from Wolves and Aaron Pierre from Northampton Town. Ricketts started the season with a 1–0 win at home to Portsmouth on 4 August, with loanee Ryan Giles scoring the goal. During the 2019–20 season, Ricketts lead the club to the fourth round of the FA Cup for the second time during his management spell, defeating Bradford City, Mansfield Town and Bristol City along the way. The fourth round would see Ricketts and his Shrewsbury side host Premier League leaders and European and World champions Liverpool, where Shrewsbury came from 0–2 down to draw 2–2 with 2 goals from substitute Jason Cummings, forcing a replay at Anfield.
