Successful treatments have shown that causes are functional rather than physical: that is, most lisps are caused by errors in tongue placement or fatness of tongue within the mouth rather than caused by any injury or congenital deformity to the mouth. César Alvarez (born 1980) is an American composer, lyricist and playwright. César is best known for the musical FUTURITY which they wrote with their band The Lisps. FUTURITY won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical in 2016. Alvarez is an Assistant Professor of Music at Dartmouth College.

McCarthy's 1958 paper introduced two types of syntax: Symbolic expressions (S-expressions, sexps), which mirror the internal representation of code and data; and Meta expressions (M-expressions), which express functions of S-expressions. Common Lisp is most frequently compared with, and contrasted to, Scheme—if only because they are the two most popular Lisp dialects. Scheme predates CL, and comes not only from the same Lisp tradition but from some of the same engineers—Guy L. Steele, with whom Gerald Jay Sussman designed Scheme, chaired the standards committee for Common Lisp. Common Lisp is a general-purpose programming language, in contrast to Lisp variants such as Emacs Lisp and AutoLISP which are extension languages embedded in particular products (GNU Emacs and AutoCAD, respectively). Unlike many earlier Lisps, Common Lisp (like Scheme) uses lexical variable scope by default for both interpreted and compiled code.

In English and similar accentual- syllabic metrical systems, a line of iambic trimeter consists of three iambic feet. The resulting six-syllable line is very short, and few poems are written entirely in this meter. The 1948 poem "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke uses the trimeter: :...We romped until the pans :Slid from the kitchen shelf; :My mother's countenance :Could not unfrown itself. Siler's first name is never mentioned in dialogue in the series, although his uniform patch and magazines give his first name as "Sly" several times, and his uniform patch in "Entity" reads "Dan". According to producer and writer Peter DeLuise, Siler's name and dialog deliberately contain the letter "S" because Dan Shea lisps. Shea had previous worked with both Richard Dean Anderson (who portrayed Jack O'Neill) and Greenberg before on the American television series MacGyver in the 80s and early 90s as Anderson's stand-in in stunt scenes, he continued this role in Stargate SG-1. She has also directed new works by artists including Polly Stenham, and the Brooklyn-based indie-rock band The Lisps. She has commissioned and produced new works by Nature Theater of Oklahoma, John Jesurun, Young Jean Lee, Annie Baker, debbie tucker green, Cynthia Hopkins, and Daniel Alexander Jones.

Lisp first introduced many paradigmatic features of functional programming, though early Lisps were multi-paradigm languages, and incorporated support for numerous programming styles as new paradigms evolved. Later dialects, such as Scheme and Clojure, and offshoots such as Dylan and Julia, sought to simplify and rationalise Lisp around a cleanly functional core, while Common Lisp was designed to preserve and update the paradigmatic features of the numerous older dialects it replaced. Information Processing Language (IPL), 1956, is sometimes cited as the first computer-based functional programming language.The memoir of Herbert A. Simon (1991), Models of My Life pp.189-190 claims that he, Al Newell, and Cliff Shaw are "...commonly adjudged to be the parents of [the] artificial intelligence [field]," for writing Logic Theorist, a program that proved theorems from Principia Mathematica automatically.

The Advocate listed the show in its "Hot Sheet" calling it "bold and biting" Time Out New York called The Material World "the best downtown musical in years," and named it one of the Top Ten Plays of 2012. The Village Voice called You Will Experience Silence "sassier and more fun than Angels in America." Also a performing songwriter, Fishback got his start in the East Village's anti-folk scene. His band, Cheese On Bread, has toured Europe and North America in support of their two full-length albums, "Maybe Maybe Maybe Baby" (2004) and "The Search for Colonel Mustard" (2007), the latter of which was re-issued in Japan in 2010 on Moor Works Records. As a solo artist, Fishback has released several recordings, including "Sweet Chastity" (2005, produced by César Alvarez of The Lisps), "Strange Little Faggots" (2006), Calendar Boys (2008), and his latest, "The Mammal Years" (2012, produced by Casey Holford).
