The entrance to the theatre was from Kozitskiy Lane. The theatre featured light-minded shows, one-act plays, operettas, comic musical interludes and short ballets. The trouble years that followed the events of 1905 aroused an incredible yearning for shows and entertainments.

The TalmudAvodah Zarah 18b mentions that, in the middle of his life, Rabbi Meir fled to Babylonia, and mentions two possible motivations. The second of these is "the Bruriah incident" (מעשה דברוריא), a phrase which is not explained. Various post- Talmudic commentaries offer explanations of this incident. According to Rashi,Commentary to Avodah Zarah 18b Bruriah made light of the Talmudic assertion that women are "light-minded".
