A craze is different from a crack in that it cannot be felt on the surface and it can continue to support a load. Furthermore, the process of craze growth prior to cracking absorbs fracture energy and effectively increases the fracture toughness of a polymer. The initial energy absorption per square meter in a craze region has been found to be up to several hundred times that of the uncrazed region, but quickly decreases and levels off. Crazes form at highly stressed regions associated with scratches, flaws, stress concentrations and molecular inhomogeneities.

County Route 57 runs mostly east and west from NY 231 in Deer Park to NY 27A in downtown Bay Shore. It includes Bay Shore Road, Howell's Road, and Third Avenue. ;Route description No sooner does CR 57 start at NY 231 in a sharp southeasterly direction, does it encounter Carll's Path and CR 4 (Commack Road). The intersection of Weeks Road is where the road crosses the Babylon–Islip Town Line, the southeastern angle of the road levels off, and was where the Babylon–Northport Expressway was intended to cross over, with a possible interchange.

Still early in his career, Abbeduto began researching the communicative and linguistic impairments associated with Fragile X syndrome and the potential opportunities for intervention with this population. He has contributed to research on Fragile X syndrome, not only by focusing on communication and language development, but also by studying the development of social avoidance through longitudinal studies. Abbeduto and his colleagues discovered that social avoidance, which is common in individuals with Fragile X syndrome, increases during childhood but then levels off during adulthood. Abbeduto found that there are important clinical differences between autism and Fragile X syndrome, which have implications for treatment.

At the last fork, a mile (1.6 km) from the trailhead a state sign indicates the distances to Palenville, the next place the Long Path reaches civilization, and other points of interest on the far side of the mountain. From this point on the trail becomes narrower as it is barred to all other motor vehicles, and starts to curve to the northeast, into state land. A yellow-blazed spur, the former Nature Friends Trail, only recently added to the state system, leads to the scenic Huckleberry Point overlook after a while. The travel levels off from its gentle climb, and starts heading due north, as it crosses some brooks and the hemlock stands around them.

Past the junction, the route reenters a residential area and temporarily curves to the east to bypass a hill overlooking Ayrault Road. The woods aside the trail become more and more boreal, and at about 3,400 feet (1,036 m), it levels off again. It continues northwest with various turn lanes and descends to Riverside Drive, then crosses the river, leaving the city of Sandy Springs and crossing the county line from Fulton into Cobb. The scenery changes from tree-lined and park-like to cut-away hillsides covered with invasive kudzu vines and naturalized mimosa trees. This is the result of the 1990s widening to six lanes plus a raised median, with no replanting done except in the median. Upon reaching Paper Mill Road, the steep climb levels off and heavier local traffic begins, passing Lower Roswell Road at Parkaire and then Roswell Road (Georgia 120 from Marietta), the major crossroads of east Cobb, and one of the county's most- traveled and most accident-prone intersections.

Approaching via the South Taconic from the west, entirely within New York, is a common route to the summit but also entails the greatest vertical ascent. The trailhead for the South Taconic is located on Quarry Hill Road, a long dead-end street in the northern section of North East, at an elevation just under 1,000 feet (300 m). After passing along the edge of an old meadow, it enters the woods, crosses into Taconic State Park and then climbs steeply past a series of cascades on the south side, at some points requiring that hikers scramble. It levels off at , where the first of many views over Dutchess and Columbia counties to the Catskill Escarpment on the other side of the Hudson River open up.

Mesa del Contadero, sometimes called Black Mesa, also appeared on a 1773 Spanish map as Mesa de SenecúValverde, June 30, 2012 from newmexicohistory.org accessed August 18, 2019, is a basalt mesa that stands out on the east bank of the Rio Grande over three miles southwest of Val Verde in Socorro County, New Mexico. The mesa rises up dramatically from its lower surroundings in steep sides of 250 to 300 feet, particularly on the three sides where the river must pass around it to the west. It then levels off to a level area on top of an elevation of 4,810 feet / 1,466 meters, with a high point summit called Mesa Peak at 4,916 feet on the northeast edge of the Mesa.
