In June 2006, after weeks of speculation, Abbondanzieri signed a three-year contract with Spanish first division Getafe CF, claiming that "it's the right time for me to go to Europe". On 10 April 2008, in a UEFA Cup quarterfinal second-leg match against Bayern Munich, Abbondanzieri made a vital error in extra time, as the goalkeeper failed to hold a routine ball from a distant free-kick. The ball slipped under his legs while in the six-yard box, allowing Bayern striker Luca Toni to tap the ball into the back of the net. Bayern was still in deficit of goals on aggregate, as the score was 2–3 after the goal (3–4 on aggregate), but only five minutes later Bayern would level the score at 3–3 (4–4 on aggregate) and allow themselves passage to the UEFA Cup semifinals via the away goals rule.
Cork got off to one of the worst ever starts in an All-Ireland final and they trailed by 2-2 to no score after just six minutes. Cork rallied to level the score at the interval, with Horgan being introduced as a substitute for Pat Barry in the 42nd minute. Wexford had a two-point lead with ten minutes to go, however, three points from Jimmy Barry-Murphy, two from Pat Moylan and a held effort from Ray Cummins gave Cork a 2–21 to 4–11 victory. It was Horgan's second All-Ireland medal. After an unhappy year at centre-back, Horgan was switched to his more natural left corner-back position in 1977. Cork qualified for a Munster final meeting with Clare, on a day when armed robbers made away with the takings from the gate of £24,579 during the second half of the game.
Dynamo hosted the first leg in Kiev, and it got off to a bad start for Shakhtar when Dmytro Chygrynskiy scored an own goal to give Dynamo the lead 1–0. The match was tense and thus not many clear cut chances to score were made, but Dynamo were clearly on top and a Shakhtar equaliser was looking unlikely until the 68th minute when substitute Willian crossed and Fernandinho bundled it into the goal to level the score at 1–1. Dynamo's Olexandr Aliyev had a chance to give the Kiev side the lead again in the 78th minute, but Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov saved well and the game ended 1–1. Shakhtar took their crucial away goal to Donetsk and things were looking very rosy when Jadson scored in the 17th minute in the return leg to put the aggregate scoreline at 2–1.
The first leg was once again hosted by Werder, but this time Werder got off to a poor start, with Hamburg having the better chances to score in the opening, before they finally converted one of their chances in the 28th minute with Piotr Trochowski heading in. The Hamburg goal woke up Werder, but Pizarro, Almeida, and substitute Rosenborg all squandered their chances to equalise. Taking a 1–0 lead with them to the HSH Nordbank Arena, Hamburg were confident of progressing to the Istanbul final, while it looked as though Werder would fail in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup for the fourth time. It looked all over in the second leg when Ivica Olić finished well in the 13th minute. But sixteen minutes later Diego and Pizarro played a one-two, and Diego put it past Hamburg 'keeper Frank Rost to level the score at 1–1 and pull the aggregate to 1–2.
The match was Milan's eleventh appearance in the final, and the third since 2003. They had won on six occasions (1963, 1969, 1989, 1990, 1994, 2003), and lost four times (1958, 1993, 1995, 2005). Liverpool were appearing in their seventh final. They had previously won the competition five times (1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, 2005), while they lost the 1985 final to Juventus. The final was a rematch of the 2005 final which Liverpool won 3–2 in a penalty shootout, after recovering from a three-goal deficit at half-time to level the score at 3–3 after full- time and extra time. The Olympic Stadium in Athens was selected as the venue for the 2007 UEFA Champions League Final at the April 2005 meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee in Tallinn, Estonia. The meeting also determined the venues for the 2006 final and the 2006 and 2007 UEFA Cup finals. Shortly before the final, the UEFA Champions League trophy was returned to UEFA by Ludovic Giuly, representing the 2006 winners, Barcelona.
After Australia kicked off, a New Zealand error in the first set of the game led to an early opportunity and field position for Australia, and the penalty was kicked by Johnathan Thurston to open the scoring to 2–0. The Kiwis suffered an early blow when after just one touch of the ball, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck had a recurrence of an ankle injury that forced him from the field after just 8 minutes with second rower Alex Glenn his replacement, forcing a re-shuffle with Simon Mannering moving to the centres and Dean Whare to the wing. Australia weren't without their problems though as soon after Jarryd Hayne went down with an apparent concussion after colliding with the hip of Simon Mannering while tackling the Kiwi captain, though the Kangaroos centre would remain on the field. Further play from the Kiwis brought them into the Australian half of the field, and a holding penalty then given by the Australians was kicked by Shaun Johnson to level the score to 2–2 at the 16 minute mark.
Ahead of the two-legged play-off semi-final versus Swindon Town, manager Uwe Rösler revealed that he would pin a list of his nominated penalty takers to the dressing room wall. With Marcello Trotta an unused substitute during the first leg, captain Kevin O'Connor (still deputising for the suspended Tony Craig) converted an injury time penalty to salvage a 1–1 draw going into the second leg at Griffin Park. The second leg proved to be a "pulsating" match, with the Bees twice opening up a two-goal lead through strikes from Clayton Donaldson and an Adam Rooney own goal, but the Robins pulled the score back to 3–2 through Joe Devera after an hour, before Aden Flint powered home an injury time header to level the score at 3–3 and force extra time. The goalless extra time period gave way to a penalty shootout in which Brentford emerged victorious, with Adam Forshaw converting the decisive penalty to spark a pitch invasion and send the Bees to the play-off final versus Yeovil Town at Wembley Stadium.
A goal in either half ensured the U's remained bottom of the table. Keen was moments away from picking up a second league win on 12 March at home to Wigan Athletic but for a last minute equaliser from Will Grigg. Handing a professional debut to Femi Akinwande, Keen's Colchester side fell behind to Wigan on 36-minutes when Yanic Wildschut scored, but four minutes later, Alex Gilbey equalised with a long-range strike. The U's went into half- time 2–1 down, conceding one minute before the interval to a Ryan Colclough goal who had already scored for Crewe against Colchester earlier in the season. Elliot Lee scored his first goal in his second spell with the club to level the score at 2–2 on 50-minutes, and ten minutes later George Moncur scored for the first time in two-months from the penalty spot after being fouled by Reece Wabara. Louis Dunne replaced Lee to make his professional debut after 77-minutes before Grigg scored the late equaliser.
In his first year in charge at Huish Park, the Glovers won the FA Trophy by beating Stevenage 2–0 in the final at Villa Park as well as finishing third in the Football Conference; the following year they won the greater prize of the Conference championship by a record margin of seventeen points and topping the hundred goals mark too, winning promotion to the Football League. Yeovil were immediately contenders in the League and after their debut season ended by missing out on the playoffs by goal difference, they were Division Three champions at the second attempt, scoring ninety goals in the process. During a League Cup game against Plymouth Argyle, Johnson's son (Lee Johnson) accidentally scored a goal after attempting to play the ball back to Argyle's keeper (who had kicked the ball out because of an injury to a Plymouth player). In a show of good sportsmanship Gary Johnson told his players to allow Argyle to walk the ball into the net to level the score at 1–1, avoiding controversy.
Two misses from Taylor at the double 16 outer ring allowed Nicholson to obtain a three-leg advantage and go within one leg of taking the second berth in the final. But Taylor used errors from Nicholson to win the next two legs on the double 4 outer ring and a subsequent 64 checkout to force a final leg decider. Nicholson took the lead on two scores of more than 100 and hit the double five outer ring to win 10–9. Post-match, Nicholson said his finishing was the key to victory and Taylor felt the latter was a deserved winner due to Nicholson playing better. The best-of-25 legs final between King and Nicholson commenced at 21:30 local time that same evening. Nicholson claimed the first leg on a 105 checkout and King the second to level the score. Both of the following two legs were shared, which saw a 96 checkout from Nicholson, before King took the lead on the double 16 outer ring before the first interval. Nicholson returned to the lead by securing another two legs until King's finishes on the double 16 and 10 outer rings regained him the lead.
On 14 March 2016, in the match against title rivals Partizani, Shehi, despite making a high-profile error which resulted in a goal by Stevan Račić early in the game, saved a penalty- kick from him in the 77th minute, allowing Skënderbeu to level the score in the last moments. In July 2016, following the retirement of long-time servant Bledi Shkëmbi, Shehi was named the new team captain. Shehi did not play any Champions League matches for the 2016–17 season as Skënderbeu was excluded from the competition by UEFA for match-fixing. He debuted in the new season on 24 August in the 2016 Albanian Supercup match against Kukësi, conceding three times in a 3–1 defeat at Selman Stërmasi Stadium. In July 2017, Shehi expressed his intention to retire after the club's UEFA Europea League campaign, after rumours linking Enea Koliçi with a possible transfer in Korçë. On 3 August 2017, in the returning leg of 2017–18 UEFA Europa League third qualifying round against Mladá Boleslav, Shehi made some crucial saves in the second half to help Skënderbeu win 2–1.
Aspelin/Knowle), and the second of Nenad Zimonjić after a previous final in 2005 with Leander Paes (lost to Llodra/Santoro). The two teams also shared a four-match history before the final, having played together in four ATP Masters Series finals, in 2007 in Paris (won by Bryan/Bryan), and in 2008 in Rome (won by Bryan/Bryan), Hamburg (won by Nestor/Zimonjić), Toronto (won by Nestor/Zimonjić). The Canadian- Serbian duo took the upper hand early in the match, breaking the Americans to lead in the first set, until the Bryans broke back to level the score –both teams then held their serve to a tie-break, in which Nestor and Zimonjić prevailed, 7–3. The second seeds raced through the next set, converting their two break points to notch a 7–6, 6–2 win –their fifth title of the year, and their first at the year-end championships. The win also meant a first year-end No. 1 spot together for the undefeated champions Nestor and Zimonjić (Zimonjić's first ever, Nestor's third, after ending No. 1 in 2002 and 2004 with Knowles) and, in the individual rankings for doubles players, the top spot for Zimonjić, and the second for Nestor.
José Enrique in action in a 2012 Merseyside derby against Everton On 11 August 2011, Newcastle agreed a £7 million fee with Liverpool for José Enrique, and a day later he joined the Merseyside club. Two days after signing, José Enrique made his debut in Liverpool's first game of the 2011–12 Premier League, starting at left back in a 1–1 draw against Sunderland. On 26 February 2012, he helped Liverpool win the 2012 Football League Cup Final against Cardiff City, their first honour since 2006. On 1 April, he was forced to play as a goalkeeper for the remaining 13 minutes of the match at his old club Newcastle after Pepe Reina was sent off for headbutting James Perch. Although José Enrique kept a clean sheet, the Reds, being down 2–0 at the time of Reina's red card, failed to level the score. He also played in the 2012 FA Cup Final on 5 May, a 2–1 loss to Chelsea. On 17 November 2012, in a league match against Wigan Athletic, José Enrique scored his first goal for Liverpool in the 65th minute, having been increasingly reinvented as a left wing back in an unconventional 3–5–2 formation under manager Brendan Rodgers.Liverpool 3–0 Wigan The Guardian 17 November 2012.
Pundit John Virgo reflected that Higgins was "not with it", whilst six-time champion Steve Davis called Higgins' performance "ridiculous". When the match resumed for the third session, a crowd member was ejected from the auditorium for shouting out immediately after the shot in the initial frame; Gilbert took the frame, increasing his lead to 11–6. Higgins won two of the next three frames to stay four behind at 8–12. He then compiled a 143 break, the highest of the tournament, in frame 21; this was also the 86th century break of the championship so far, tying the record for the number of centuries in a World Snooker Championship, set in 2015. Gilbert won the next frame, falling short of a century, with a break of 91. Higgins then won the final two frames of the session to reduce his deficit to 11–13. Gilbert took the initial frame of the fourth (and final) session, but Higgins, having not led the match since mid- way through the first session, won the next four frames to go ahead 15–14. Gilbert then restored his lead by winning the next two frames, before Higgins scored a 139 break to level the score at 16–16, forcing a decider.
Both were replaced, but despite increased pressure from the Saints they were unable to recover their lead. ;Arsenal (28 January 2014) On 28 January the Saints hosted league leaders Arsenal at St Mary's Stadium. With 18-year-old striker Sam Gallagher starting for the senior team for the first time, Southampton enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening exchanges, with Gallagher enjoying a number of early chances to open the scoring. After continuing to play confidently against the league leaders, the hosts opened the scoring just after 20 minutes when José Fonte headed in a cross from Luke Shaw at the far post for his second goal of the campaign. Arsenal remained on the back foot for the remainder of the first half, as Adam Lallana created and received a number of chances to add a second; Gallagher had arguably the best chance of the half from six yards out, but steered his shot wide to leave the score at 1–0 going into the break. Despite Southampton's dominance in the first 45 minutes, it was Arsenal who came out after the break the stronger side; with just 48 minutes on the clock, Olivier Giroud back-heeled Bacary Sagna's cross past Artur Boruc to level the score.
The Second Round draw saw Staines Town drawn at home to the winners of the following evening's First Round game of Millwall vs AFC Wimbledon, which Millwall won 4–1. On 28 November 2009 they earned a place in the 3rd Round Draw for the first time ever after a 1–1 draw against League One Millwall, Ali Chaaban scoring a 79th-minute penalty to level the score after having gone behind ten minutes earlier, in front of a 2,753 crowd. The replay at the New Den was on 9 December and was broadcast live on the FA.com website. A home tie against Championship side Derby County in the 3rd Round awaited the winners of the replay, which Millwall won 4–0. There have been two appearances in the last 32 of the FA Trophy, the first back in 1976, losing to Morecambe in a 2nd replay and then in a replay to Halifax Town in 2004 after drawing 1–1 at The Shay in the first match. Another significant match in the club's history was in 1975 when they beat Italian Amateur cup winners Banco di Roma 3–0 on aggregate (1-0 in Rome, 2-0 in Wheatsheaf Lane) for the Barassi Cup.
