Modern reconstruction of a Bölzlschiessen target. It pokes fun at Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his leavetaking with his cousin (and probable love interest) Maria Anna Thekla Mozart. Bölzlschiessen was a form of domestic recreation that involved shooting darts at decorated targets with an air gun. It is remembered as an activity of Leopold Mozart, his family, and their friends.

The next novel, The Leavetaking introduces the reader to Patrick Moran, a young schoolteacher in Dublin. The novel is set during his last day in the school. He will be formally fired that night for having married a divorced non-Catholic woman during a leave of absence year. The novel is divided into two parts: both of which are essentially flashbacks.

This title was inspired by Mark Strand's poem "The View". In November 2008, Adams was named by The Wall Street Journal as one of the "21st- century writers whose songs are worth exploring", and as having "a way with melody and lyrics ... ready to be seen and heard". In May 2009, Leavetaking earned Adams Indie Acoustic Project's "Best CDs of 2008" Award for Best Singer-Songwriter-Male. In 2011, Adams formed Down Like Silver with singer/songwriter Caitlin Canty.

Based on the response from this release, Adams was named "Notable New Artist of the Year" in 2006 by The Loft (Sirius XM) Satellite Radio. Before recording his next collection of music, Adams headed east to Nashville to be closer to musicians and producers with whom he wanted to work. While working on Gather Up, Adams formed a collaborative bond with session player and producer Lex Price. Now based out of Brooklyn, New York, Adams is signed to Sarathan Records, which released his sophomore solo release, Leavetaking.

During Bright Week (the week beginning on Easter Sunday) the services are completely different from the rest of the year, and there is no usual beginning. The hymn, "O Heavenly King..." (above) is one of the propers of Pentecost, and will not be said from Pascha (Easter) until the feast of Pentecost, fifty days later. From Thomas Sunday until the Great Feast of the Ascension, "O Heavenly King" is replaced with the Troparion of Pascha: > Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those > in the tombs bestowing life! (Three times) From Ascension until its leavetaking, “O Heavenly King” is omitted entirely, and replaced by nothing (symbolizing the physical "absence" of Jesus and the expectant coming of the Holy Spirit).

When it was eventually published in Germany in 1960 it put its 45 years old writer at the forefront of the West German literary scene. Weiss abandoned painting and filmmaking and turned exclusively to writing. Nearly all his subsequent works – and all of the major ones – are written in German. His next prose work, Abschied von den Eltern (Leavetaking, 1959/60) was less hermetic than Coachman and strongly autobiographical. It was not only a critical but also a public success, as was its follow-up Fluchtpunkt (Vanishing Point, 1962) Since the early 1950 Weiss had also been writing plays: Der Turm (The Tower, 1950), Die Versicherung (The Insurance, 1952), Nacht mit Gästen (Night with Guests, 1963), Wie dem Herrn Mockinpott das Leiden ausgetrieben wird (How Mister Mockinpott was Cured of His Sufferings, 1963/68).
