In 1910, he was married to May Harding, and lived in Nassau County, New York (either Cedarhurst"Keeping up with the Joneses", in the Facts on File Dictionary of American Regionalisms by Robert Hendrickson; originally published 1997; this edition published October 30, 2000 by Infobase Publishing or Hempstead). Unable to afford the Nassau County lifestyle, they eventually moved back to Manhattan. Momand and Harding subsequently divorced, and in 1928 he married Mayo Deason in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Companies like StormMaster claimed their jalousies provided "winter warmth and summer comfort." Others, like Ludman WindoTite, promoted their product by declaring how the brand's windows have "transformed the Jones' front porch," which is an unambiguous reference to the concept of Keeping up with the Joneses. The VentVue company took a different approach to their advertising copy, instead stressing how their jalousies make "every window a picture window," and states that they are fashionable choice for new constructions and replacements.
On April 26th, 2019, Moonlight Social released the single "Valleys and Peaks" and hinted that they are working on their second full-length album, their first since 2012. The duo then released another song off the album, "Keeping Up With The Joneses," along with an accompanying music video. Nashville Noise called the video "fun-loving" and their "favorite of their music videos so far." The duo then released additional singles in advance of their sophomore album, due Fall 2020.
Some etymologists suggest this originates in reference to the family of Edith Wharton (née Jones), prominent socialites in 19th-century New York. However, linguist Rosemarie Ostler writes that "Jones is a common enough name to have universal associations". On the Sunday page, Keeping Up with the Joneses had a topper strip, Holly of Hollywood, which ran from January 3, 1932 to March 27, 1938. The strip itself did not achieve the lasting fame of some other comics, and was not widely merchandised.

According to this philosophy, conspicuous consumption occurs when people care about their standard of living in relation to their peers. The term was re-introduced in 1976 when an article about parenting included it and has remained a commercial and cultural watchword ever since. According to Roger Mason, "the demand for status goods, fueled by conspicuous consumption, has diverted many resources away from investment in the manufacture of more material goods and services in order to satisfy consumer preoccupations with their relative social standing and prestige".
A 1991 episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air had Uncle Phil outfit the Banks residence with new- fangled appliances that cause difficulties for everyone else, to which Aunt Vivian tells her husband "I said we needed to keep up with the Joneses, not the the Jetsons!" Ahmad Lewis has a song off his hit record called "The Joneses". The phrase appears in the song "I Wanna Go Back" by Christian singer David Dunn on his 2017 album "Yellow Balloons". Dominic West makes reference to the phrase “Keeping up with the Joneses” in the 2003 film Mona Lisa Smile.
The houses became grander and grander. In 1853, Elizabeth Schermerhorn Jones built a 24-room gothic villa called Wyndcliffe described by Henry Winthrop Sargent in 1859 as being very fine in the style of a Scottish castle, but by Edith Wharton, Elizabeth's niece, as a gloomy monstrosity. The villa reportedly spurred more building, including a house by William B. Astor (married to a Jones cousin), a phenomenon described as "keeping up with the Joneses". The phrase is also associated with another of Edith Wharton's aunts, Mary Mason Jones, who built a large mansion at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, then undeveloped.

In May 2019 the title track, "Forever or Whatever", from her debut album was released. The Line of Best Fits Olivia Swash premiered the track and wrote, "[she] slams picture-perfect 'keeping up with the Joneses' lifestyles... her droll lyrics take a swipe at the assumption that a nuclear family is the culmination of happiness, singing of white picket fences and four-wheel drives." She supported British rock band, the Feeling, on their twelfth anniversary tour of their debut album, Twelve Stops and Home. The phrase is used as the title of the 2016 film Keeping Up with the Joneses. The reality television show Keeping Up with the Kardashians takes it name from this phrase, replacing "Joneses" with "Kardashians". NeNe Leakes' tagline during the first two seasons of The Real Housewives of Atlanta was, "I don't keep up with the Joneses, I am the Joneses". The phrase is also referenced in Marvel's "Cloak & Dagger" episode 10: "In this day and age you gotta keep up with the Joneses, as well as the Starks and the Rands" The phrase is used in a Fallout 76 Trailer revolving around the game's building mechanics.
Boo! A Madea Halloween grossed $73.2 million in North America and $1.6 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $74.8 million against a $20 million budget. The film was released on October 21, 2016 alongside Ouija: Origin of Evil, Keeping Up with the Joneses and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and was expected to gross $15–17 million from 2,260 theaters in its opening weekend. The film grossed $9.4 million on its first day (including $855,000 from Thursday night previews) and an above-expected $27.6 million in its opening weekend, finishing first at the box office and ranking as the fourth-best debut for a Perry film.
Various strips feature the McGinis family attempting to match the lifestyle of their neighbors, the Joneses, who are often mentioned but never seen. The strip was later picked up by Joseph Pulitzer's The New York World, and was subsequently syndicated in many other papers by Associated Newspapers. The title and central conceit of a family struggling to "keep up" with the neighbors resonated with its audience, to the point that the phrase keeping up with the Joneses became a common catchphrase. Use of the Jones name for neighbors involved in social competition predates Momand; William Safire traces an early example in the English writer E. J. Simmons' 1879 Memoirs of a Station Master.
In 2006, rapper Jim Jones approached VH1 executives to make a reality show about him. Jim Ackerman, senior vice president of development and production at the time, paired him with producers Stefan Springman and Toby Barraud of NFGTV, who produced the 11-minute presentation tape Keeping Up with the Joneses, which also featured Jones' longtime girlfriend Chrissy Lampkin and his mother Nancy. VH1 were unsure if audiences would be invested in the concept full-time and Jones' manager, Yandy Smith, approached Mona Scott-Young, her former employer at Violator, to retool the show. As a test to see if the public would be willing to pay for comic books, Dell published the single-issue Famous Funnies: Series 1, also printed by Eastern Color.

The married couple soon finds success in a popular talk show, Keeping Up with the Joneses, but it is cut short when Rick is crippled by a Banner-less Hulk, that made a deal to work for Apocalypse and become his Horseman "War" if he would remove the shrapnel from the Hulk's brain. The injury confines Rick to a wheelchair and the debilitation strains his relationship with Marlo. The strain increases with the death of Betty Banner by radiation poisoning to the point that the couple split shortly thereafter.

The name "Generation Jones" has several connotations, including a large anonymous generation, a "keeping up with the Joneses" competitiveness and the slang word "jones" or "jonesing", meaning a yearning or craving. It is believed that Jonesers inherited an optimistic outlook as children in the 1960s, but were then confronted with a different reality as they came of age during the shift from a manufacturing to a service economy, which ushered in a long period of mass unemployment, and de- industrialization arrived full force in the mid-late 1970s and 1980s, leaving them with a certain unrequited "jonesing" quality for the more prosperous days of the past. Generation Jones is noted for coming of age after a huge swath of their older brothers and sisters in the earlier portion of the baby boomer population had come immediately preceding them; thus, many complain that there was a paucity of resources and privileges available to them that were seemingly abundant to older boomers. Therefore, there is a certain level of bitterness and "jonesing" for the level of freedom and affluence granted to older boomers but denied to them.
