It was this that attracted Brian Clough who promptly signed him for Nottingham Forest. After making his debut as a 21-year-old, Wigley played 82 times for Forest before moving to Sheffield United in 1985. Unfortunately, he never found success in Sheffield and moved to Birmingham City soon after, when a spectacular display against Portsmouth persuaded that club's manager, Alan Ball, to sign him.

Walden was born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire and after playing football for various clubs in his home town, he started his professional career in 1909 at Northampton Town, then playing in the Southern League. On 13 April 1913, he was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £1,700. Being only 5 ft 2 in tall he was often described as a 'diminutive winger' and known for his 'darting jinking runs down the right flank'. His small stature also accounted for his nickname 'Fanny' which was in common use during his time to describe those of 'dainty physique'.

An 11–8 defeat to Wales that year cost Ireland a triple crown and what would have been their first grand- slam. In 1929 tries by Sugden and Paul Murray (who was now playing at out- half), gave Ireland a 6–5 victory over England – their first away victory over them since 1906 and their first ever at Twickenham – with Sugden jinking over for the winning score. The mouse-and-keyboard flight control was praised by the industry. Guns defense maneuvering, or "guns-D", is the last resort for a defender that fails to outmaneuver the attacker. Guns-D is a series of random changes in the defenders flight path, intended to spoil the attacker's aim by presenting a constantly shifting target, and, hopefully, to maneuver out of the bullet stream (hose). It consists of arbitrary speed changes, yaws, skids, slips, pitch-ups, and rolls, and is often referred to as "jinking". Because the attacker must aim ahead of the opponent, the primary goal in guns-D is to disorient the attacker's aim by keeping the nose pointed in a different direction than the velocity vector (the direction of travel), and is very effective at preventing the attacker from achieving a suitable guns solution.

Five minutes into the second half, Fenby scored a debut try for the second time in his professional career, taking hold of a loose ball before outrunning the Harlequins defence to the try line. Ten minutes later, he was in a one-on-one defensive situation against Harlequins' second-row George Robson, but the forward was more powerful and scored the try to bring the scores level at 15–15. There were no further points scored in the game, but with the other three Pool 2 teams losing their matches, the Scarlets went top of the pool at the end of the first week. Fenby's home debut came the following weekend on 14 November 2009 against Worcester Warriors, and he made his Celtic League debut in the Scarlets' next fixture against Edinburgh on 4 December; he played a major part in the Scarlets' first try of the game, receiving the ball from Jonathan Davies before jinking past a couple of Edinburgh defenders and offloading out of a tackle to Richie Pugh, who was left with a simple finish.
