He specialized in Roman classical texts in Latin, often with his own ' for the student market. For example, for the 2nd- century Roman playwright Terence, Badius printed a Praenotamenta in 1502. This introduced the subject of Roman comedy through a lengthy treatment of general theories of poetry and thorough discussion of its origins, development, and classifications.

John Duncan Mackie CBE MC (1887-1978) was a distinguished Scottish historian who wrote a one-volume history of Scotland as well as several works on early modern Scotland. Born in Edinburgh, Mackie was educated at Middlesbrough High School and Jesus College, Oxford, where he took a first-class degree in history and won the Lothian Essay Prize. He was appointed as a lecturer in history at the University of St. Andrews in 1909, aged only twenty-two. While at St. Andrews he introduced the subject of Scottish history into the curriculum.

In 1800, when a frostbitten thumb gave him great pain and much fear for his life, his friend, Rev. Philip Oliver of Chester, died, leaving him director and one of three trustees over his chapel at Boughton; and this added much to his anxiety. The Welsh causes at Manchester and London, too, gave him much uneasiness, and burdened him with great responsibilities at this juncture. In November 1802 he went to London, and on 7 December he sat at a committee meeting of the Religious Tract Society, as a country member, when his friend, Joseph Tarn, a member of the Spa Fields and Religious Tract Society committees, introduced the subject of a regular supply of Bibles for Wales.

In 1870 Mrs. T. F. McElroy organized her Sunday School class of girls into "The Busy Bees." On March 23, 1875, at a meeting of "The Dime & Sewing Society" Mr. O'Brien introduced the subject of "employing a sexton for the Church to ring the Bell, make fires and light the lamps: the Busy Bees generously offering to keep the Church clean." In 1878 a rectory was built by James Stewart at a cost of $1800 gold coin raised by "The Dime Society" and the "Busy Bees." The St. John's Episcopal Church women's groups are recognized for their contributions to the Olympia area in a registration in the National Register of Historic Places ("Women's History in Olympia: First Settlement 1846 to 1948").

The choir held concerts in Yerevan, and performed to audiences in Etchmiadzin, Sevan, and throughout Armenia. The Vaskenian Seminary also published its first annual theological magazine Sourp Arakelots (Armenian: Սուրբ Առաքելոց). While at the Seminary, Bishop Bagrat introduced the subject of “Green Theology” for the first time in Eastern European and the former Soviet Republic and its churches. In cooperation with World Council of Church’s office in the Mother See “Round Table,” this subject was brought to the Seminary, and thus introduced to the Armenian Church. In 2002 he received the rank of Vardapet for his thesis on “The Problem of the Sacrament of anointing the sick in the Armenian Church.” At this time Bagrat was appointed head of the newly founded department of Media, Relations and Communications of Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

In 1869, she visited Paris to study the women's college of Jules Simon, and in 1870, she founded the Bikupan, to offer a place were women could sell their handicrafts: Bikupan participated at the Weltausstellung 1873 Wien. She was engaged in the question of women's education. During the 1860s, she organized several public meetings for debate about reform in women's education, and in the early 1870s, she arranged two competitions which attracted a great deal of debate and attention around the subjects: the causes of women's general bad health, and the upbringing and education of females. She disliked girl schools and was a supporter of co-education, and she supported Karl Edvard Palmgren and his co-educational Praktiska arbetsskolan (Practical Work's School), where she introduced the subject of gymnastic and cooking in an effort to improve the health of the students.
