For the film, Kotlowitz and James received an Emmy, the Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary Feature. and a Cinema Eye Award, and was selected by numerous publications, including The New Yorker and Entertainment Weekly, as one of the top ten films of 2011.

The player takes on the role of Guruki, a chosen one who is prophesied to bring back an ancient music source that has been locked away by a negative force. In the land of Ota, the Musiki (Music Giants) once roamed the land and played music to Ota's people, the Nchi, which maintained harmony and peace in their society. A group of beings called the Matata (a.k.a. "the interrupters") arrived one day and stole away the Musiki's life force, the Chúkwú, which stopped the music from playing.

A high-voltage circuit breaker mounted outdoors at the substation near the Manitoba Hydro Slave Falls generating station. The horizontal cylindrical tanks contain the interrupters which operate in an envelope filled with SF6 gas. In the early 1980s, Sauers developed a novel method by which to measure the degradation of Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) in high-voltage systems. SF6, a hypervalent molecule, is used as a gaseous insulator in conjunction with solid insulating material in high voltage systems such as transmission lines, substations and switchgear.

Although some vacuum-interrupter designs have simple butt contacts, contacts are generally shaped with slots, ridges, or grooves to improve their ability to break high currents. Arc current flowing through the shaped contacts generate magnetic forces on the arc column, which cause the arc contact spot to move rapidly over the surface of the contact. This reduces contact wear due to erosion by an arc, which melts the contact metal at the point of contact. Only few manufacturer of vacuum interrupters worldwide produce the contact material itself.

Components of the vacuum interrupter must be thoroughly cleaned before assembly, since contaminants could emit gas into the vacuum envelope. To ensure a high breakdown voltage, components are assembled in a cleanroom where dust is strictly controlled. RCDs with trip currents as high as 500 mA are sometimes deployed in environments (such as computing centers) where a lower threshold would carry an unacceptable risk of accidental trips. These high-current RCDs serve for equipment and fire protection instead of protection against the risks of electrical shocks. In the United States the American Boat and Yacht Council requires both GFCIs for outlets and Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupters (ELCI) for the entire boat. The difference is GFCIs trip on 5 mA of current whereas ELCIs trip on 30 mA after up to 100 ms.

Since 2013 the band have played regularly across Europe with performances in countries including Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Greece, Italy, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Serbia, the UK, and the Isle of Man. From 2018 the band have also toured in the USA and Canada. During 2016 for some European live dates drummer Jacob Hull was substituted by Ryde drummer Toby Jenkins. In autumn 2018 Grade 2 was support for The Interrupters UK tour, and in spring 2019 the band toured as support for the Dropkick Murphys.

Such a condition can arise spontaneously from mechanical, thermal, or chemical stress on insulation materials, or from unintentional damage from digging activity, freeze-frost seizing, corrosion and collapse of conduit, or even workmanship issues. Contact voltage energizes objects which are normally safe – fences, telephone booths, street signs, etc. Anywhere buried electric wiring exists, a failure can occur in that wiring and create conditions that allow electricity to flow into the immediate surroundings. Some systems have protective devices such as circuit breakers or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI), designed to isolate such a fault.

Calypso Rose is still actively writing new music, even telling a reporter that she carries around a tape recorder with her to keep track of her ideas. In October 2019, she released a song titled "Baila Mami" from the new Calypso Rose & Friends EP featuring Nailah Blackman, Lao Ra, Manu Chao, Machel Montano, Patrice, Tim Armstrong & The Interrupters and King Doudou. The song is a mix of Spanish and English encouraging women to break free and dance. Calypso Rose's music is known for her political and social justice narrative in her music.

These were often driven by a separate electromagnet or motor, which allowed the interruption rate and "dwell" time to be adjusted separately from the primary current. The largest coils used either electrolytic or mercury turbine interrupters. The electrolytic or Wehnelt interrupter, invented by Arthur Wehnelt in 1899, consisted of a short platinum needle anode immersed in an electrolyte of dilute sulfuric acid, with the other side of the circuit connected to a lead plate cathode. In August 2014, TNN partnered with Skindie Magazine to produce a series of video interviews.

As of 2018 initiatives were in place in Washington DC, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Baltimore and other US cities, as well as in London and Glasgow. Violence interruption is distinct from law enforcement as an approach to ending violence, although the two approaches can sometimes be regarded as complementary to one another. The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention is an organization that links violence interruption projects to medical resources. During the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, violence interrupters helped encourage social distancing, hand washing, and other measures to limit viral spread and helped distribute food and supplies in the areas they served.

In the 1990s epidemiologist Gary Slutkin noticed similarities between the AIDS epidemic in Africa and the violence occurring in Chicago at the time, noticing that violence was happening in "clusters," seemed to be "replicating itself", and was increasing rapidly, just like disease epidemics did. He recognized these as the three classic signs of contagious disease and decided to treat it as that. He applied for funding and started a pilot program which eventually became Cure Violence. Using a sociological technique he and colleagues had developed fighting AIDS in Uganda, he recruited former gang members as "Violence Interrupters" to do outreach.

Teddy Leifer (Edward Leifer) founded Rise Films in 2008 and has since produced or executive produced all of its films and television programmes including the 2013 Oscar nominee The Invisible War and 2018 Oscar winner Icarus. In 2013 he won an Emmy for his work on The Interrupters, directed by Steve James, and in 2014 won a further two Emmys for his work on The Invisible War, directed by Kirby Dick. His other Producer and Executive Producer credits include We Are Together, Rough Aunties, Dreamcatcher, Who is Dayani Cristal?, and ITV2's multi award-winning Roman sitcom, Plebs, written by brother Sam Leifer.

In 2019, the band was sued by Furry Puppet Studio for over using llama puppets made by the company. According to the company, the llamas were only licensed for use in the "Young and Menace" video but were used at live shows, on merchandise, during TV appearances, and in multiple music videos. On September 10, 2019, the band announced the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Weezer as headliners along themselves, with The Interrupters as an opening act. They also released "Dear Future Self (Hands Up)" off their second compilation album, Greatest Hits: Believers Never Die – Volume Two, released in November 2019.

James was born in Hampton, Virginia. He directed the 1997 feature film Prefontaine and the TV movies Passing Glory and Joe and Max. One of his more recent films, The Interrupters, a portrayal of a year inside the lives of former gang members in Chicago who now intervene in violent conflicts, was released in January 2011, after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival. The film is his sixth feature length collaboration with his long-time filmmaking home, the non-profit Chicago production studio Kartemquin Films, and is also his fifth feature to be accepted into the Sundance Film Festival.

The function of an interrupter circuit is to continually make and break the supply to the induction coil, which causes the coil to generate a large back emf at its output each time it is switched. Early interrupters were operated by hand, but Golding Bird introduced an automatic interrupter which worked electromagnetically in 1838. The problem with Bird's interrupter, and the problem that Letheby wished to solve, was that the direction of flow of the electric current was in opposite directions during the make and the break operations. Medical applications of electricity often required a unidirectional current, particularly when treating nervous disorders.

Traditionally all Danish sockets were equipped with a switch to prevent touching live pins when connecting/disconnecting the plug. Today, sockets without switch are allowed, but then it is a requirement that the sockets have a cavity to prevent touching the live pins. The shape of the plugs generally makes it difficult to touch the pins when connecting/disconnecting. Since the early 1990s earthed sockets have been required in all new electric installations in Denmark. Older sockets need not be earthed, but all sockets, including old installations, must be protected by earth-fault interrupters (HFI or HPFI in Danish) by 1 July 2008.

Chart success returned in 2018, when The Interrupters scored a minor hit with their song "She's Kerosene", that peaked at #4 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and #1 on the RPM Canadian rock/alternative chart. Detroit ska/punk outfit The Suicide Machines have a new album titled "Revolution Spring" that was released in March 2020 on Fat Wreck Chords. The Planet Smashers released "Too Much Information" on Stomp Records in 2019 and continue to play shows in the U.S. and Canada. Mustard Plug from Grand Rapids, Michigan continues to tour and put out new music as well.

The three Bivona brothers met Aimee Allen, a solo artist at the time, in 2009 while touring with their band Telacasters supporting The Dirty Heads and Sugar Ray. In 2011, Aimee and Kevin started writing songs together and brought Kevin's brothers, twins Jesse and Justin, in to play drums and bass. That led to the four forming The Interrupters. The band got an early start, touring with bands such as Rancid, The Transplants, Devil's Brigade, and Left Alone; as well as playing the American music festival Riot Fest in Chicago and Denver, and the Canadian music festival Amnesia Rockfest, all before the release of their first record.

This allows for re-switching the network, as operators can use information provided by the reclosers in the field to reconfigure the distribution network if a fault is detected in the field, or to fix load flow issues. Remote control of reclosers also saves significant operational expenditure, as it can reduce the necessity of field crews to travel to site to reset devices which have transitioned to lockout. Autoreclosers are made in single-phase and three-phase versions, and use either oil, vacuum, or SF6 interrupters. Controls for the reclosers range from the original electromechanical systems to digital electronics with metering and SCADA functions.

One patentee, Franz Schneider and his employer LVG, later sued Fokker in the German courts and won their case; but Fokker (by now in America) refused to pay up. Three of the album's songs, "That's Just The Way It Is Now", which was featured on Rancid's 2009 album, Let the Dominoes Fall, "I'm Real" and "No More Living" were written by Armstrong in 2007 while in Spain and are inspired by the classic 1964 Vincent Price movie, The Last Man on Earth which was based on the 1954 novel, I Am Legend.

On June 17, 2016 Alvarez / TNN RADIO and KX935 published a semi-autobiographical music history piece on the evolution of the ska genre in the OC Weekly. The story chronicled the history and evolution of the genre through the eyes of Alvarez. Featured interviews included ska icons English Beat, The Specials, Selecter, Big D and the Kids Table, Reel Big Fish, Sublime with Rome, The Untouchables and The Interrupters. Contributors included Nate Jackson of the OC Weekly, Disc Jockey Martin Hanlin, Cameron Hallenbeck (International Band Research), (Arlene Semko, Editor). On July 24, 2016 Alvarez and Preiss interviewed Milo Aukerman of the Descendents and discussed their 7th studio album Hyercaffium Spazzinate, and debuted songs off the new album.

Alessia Cara also covered the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as part of her Eilish impersonation.

The amateur video footage of the beating, obtained by Chicago television station WFLD, was widely broadcast in both traditional and online media. Largely resulting from the widespread circulation of this video, the story attracted much national attention within the United States, leading President Barack Obama to send U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to Chicago to discuss youth violence with Mayor Richard M. Daley. Secretary Duncan was also interviewed by Anderson Cooper on the cable news channel CNN regarding violence in Chicago. The murder and its subsequent coverage form an important part of the 2011 Steve James documentary The Interrupters, which profiles the work of the antiviolence organization CeaseFire.

They may also include materials released during laser processing, such as metal fumes from cutting or surface treatments of metals or the complex mix of decomposition products produced in the high energy plasma of a laser cutting plastics. Mechanical hazards may include moving parts in vacuum and pressure pumps; implosion or explosion of flashlamps, plasma tubes, water jackets, and gas handling equipment. High temperatures and fire hazards may also result from the operation of high-powered Class IIIB or any Class IV Laser. Ska punk had significant mainstream success in the middle-to-late 1990s, with many bands topping pop and rock music charts. The best selling ska punk record of the era was No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom, which was certified diamond by the RIAA in 1999 and was certified diamond by Music Canada in 1997. By the early 2000s, many of the bands in ska punk had broken up, and the genre lost mainstream appeal, though it continued to have underground popularity and featured a revival in the late 2010s with bands like The Interrupters returning to chart success, when their song "She's Kerosene" reached the top-5 on alternative and rock music charts in Canada and the U.S.

Although modern induction coils used for educational purposes all use the vibrating arm 'hammer' type interrupter described above, these were inadequate for powering the large induction coils used in spark-gap radio transmitters and x-ray machines around the turn of the 20th century. In powerful coils the high primary current created arcs at the interrupter contacts which quickly destroyed the contacts. Also, since each "break" produces a pulse of voltage from the coil, the more breaks per second the greater the power output. Hammer interrupters were not capable of interruption rates over 200 breaks per second and the ones used on powerful coils were limited to 20 – 40 breaks per second.

On September 9, 2013, former members Stan Frazier (drums, percussion, programming, backing vocals) and Murphy Karges (bass guitar, backing vocals) performed with Scott Foster (lead vocals, guitar), Lewis Richards (guitar, backing vocals), and Damon Tucker (guitar, backing vocals) during Keep Calm and Beat H.E.A.T. Rocking & Rally. They performed some of Foster's solo material, and some Sugar Ray classics.
