Peck concurs, stating that Leicester was "intent upon rendering Sussex's allies politically useless". The Privy Council ordered the arrest of both Howard and Arundell; Oxford immediately met secretly with Arundell to convince him to support his allegations against Howard and Southwell, offering him money and a pardon from the Queen. Arundell refused this offer, and he and Howard initially sought asylum with Mendoza.

In 1766, Captain William Smith was tarred, feathered, and dumped into the harbor of Norfolk, Virginia by a mob that included the town's mayor. A vessel picked him out of the water just as his strength was giving out. He survived and was later quoted as saying that they "dawbed my body and face all over with tar and afterwards threw feathers on me." Smith was suspected of informing on smugglers to the British customs agents, as was the case with most other tar-and-feathers victims in the following decade.

The Catholic civil initiatives proved short-lived as they were quickly overtaken by the IRA—a minor player in 1969. Serious sectarian violence and police brutality led Catholics to view the IRA, despite its flaws, as the guarantor of their safety. Harvey takes on Sutter as a client in order to tank his defense, while secretly cooperating/colluding with Cahill. This continues for the rest of the first half of the season, and eventually Mike's deal goes through and he is released.

Back at the clubhouse, Piney admits that he made a mistake in selling the guns, and he only did it because Meineke is a friend. After pressing a reluctant Sheriff Trammel for information, Jax learns that the ATF will be back with a search warrant and tells the others that they will have to get rid of the guns from the garage. Later, Meineke contacts Piney again and sets up a meeting at the militia's woodland hideout. The Sons agree that they will have to kill the militia to stop them from informing on SAMCRO if they are apprehended.

Schaefer's sister Sara told reporters that Schaefer's murder was a cover-up related to his attempts to verify the confession to the killing of Adam Walsh that Ottis Toole had made and then subsequently retracted. Sondra London declared it was more likely due to Schaefer informing on other inmates.

Posada was not confronted with these allegations to avoid compromising existing operations, but internal CIA communications referred to him as a serious liability. The Church Committee hearings of 1975, which had been triggered by fears that the CIA were running too many rogue operations, had a significant impact on the agency, and Posada's association was seen to be "not in good odor". Harry Morgan is a detective and highly respected member of the Miami Police Department, and a close friend of his immediate superior Lieutenant Tom Matthews. The Danish government and King Christian X repeatedly discouraged sabotage and encouraged informing on the resistance movement, an activity which resulted in resistance fighters being imprisioned or executed during the war and informants being sentenced to death for after the war. Prior to, during and after the war Denmark enforced a restrictive refugee policy and handed Jewish refugees that managed to get over the border over to German authorities. 21 such incidents are known and 18 of the people transferred to German custody later died in concentration camps, including a woman and her three children. In early 1979, Cullotta moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to join Spilotro, who had already been there since 1971, and his group of experienced thieves, safecrackers, and killers. The crew became known in the media as the Hole in the Wall Gang because of its penchant for gaining entry to homes and buildings by drilling through the exterior walls and ceilings of the locations they burgled. On October 10, 1979, Cullotta killed his former friend and grand jury witness Sherwin "Jerry" Lisner in Las Vegas, who was suspected of informing on a money exchange scam he was working on with Cullotta. When he became a witness, Cullotta admitted he had killed Lisner, on orders from Tony Spilotro.

Ehrenburg escaped this purge and continued to publish and travel abroad. He was accused of informing on his comrades, but there is no evidence to support this theory. On 21 September 1948, at the behest of Politburo members Lazar Kaganovich and Georgii Malenkov, Ehrenburg published an article in Pravda arguing that Jews deserved their own state and condemned antisemitism. Where they are in hiding, Charlie and Edith burn the recorded bills and relax. Later, the Bosniac National Council adopted the Decision on Determining Traditional Names of the Units of the Local Self-Administration, Populated Places and Other Geographical Names in the Bosnian Language on the territory of Novi Pazar, Tutin, Sjenica and Prijepolje. The Bosniac National Council created the Model for Education of the Bosniaks of Sandžak, the Strategy of Informing on Bosnian Language, and founded the Institute for Culture.

Michel, however, was reluctant to go to the police because she felt she would be informing on a friend. Hofman, therefore, decided she would have to go to the police herself with this information. She duly passed the information on to a detective at Castle Hill police station. Questioned by police, Guider initially told them that he had only met Samantha Knight a couple of times over the years, but it eventually turned out that he had molested her and two other girls at a house in Raglan Street, Manly, a number of times during 1984 and 1985. After a lengthy investigation, Guider was charged with Knight's murder on 22 February 2001.

The play contains many allusions to political topics, particularly anarchism and socialism.

Following 9-months of hearings, Wolf issued a 661-page decision finding that to protect Bulger and Flemmi, the FBI had: not investigated them for serious crimes including murder; told Bulger and Flemmi when other agencies were investigating them; told Bulger and Flemmi about people informing on them so they could be killed; and told Bulger when to flee. The finding that the FBI was complicit in murders was vehemently condemned by the prosecutors and FBI. Although Flemmi had not been granted immunity from prosecution by the FBI, Wolf decided that the information he had provided the FBI could not be used against him. John grows suspicious of her shifty behavior, and is proven correct when Alik and his men burst in and tie John and Jack up, while Komarov is taken as a hostage, and Irina confesses to informing on them for the "millions of dollars" to be gained. Jack breaks free of his ties and kills the nearest guards using a Russian gun-knife, allowing the two to kill most of the men. Alik and Irina, with Komarov still their hostage, return in a Mil Mi-24 helicopter and try to kill them, but the two escape a second time. That night, the two steal a car full of firearms and drive to Pripyat, Ukraine, where the safe-deposit box with the file is located.

Dicky and Bobby Roper's mutual antagonism continues, with Roper delighting in informing on Dicky's transgressions at school and Dicky retaliating violently. Father Sturt, after finding Dicky weaving rush bags, sees hope that the boy can make an honest life and secures a job for him at Mr Grinder's hardware shop. Dicky takes to the work with pride and daydreams of one day having his own shop. Weech, fearful that Dicky will inform, or averse to losing a source of income, tells Mr Grinder that Dicky has offered to sell him stock from the shop and Dicky is dismissed, vowing to turn his back on the idea of honest employment, and returning to Grinder's to steal the very items Weech had lied about, and, ironically, taking those items to Weech.

When the military entered the town, they began a spree of looting, burning and murder, of which the most enthusiastic perpetrators were reported to be the Monaghan militiamen, who were anxious to prove their loyalty and expunge the shame of the recent executions of their comrades for sedition. McCracken, Hope and their remaining supporters withdrew northwards, establishing camps of ever dwindling size along the route of their retreat until news of the defeat at Ballynahinch caused their final dispersion. McCracken was arrested by yeomen on 7 July and was hanged in Belfast on 17 July, having refused an offer of clemency in return for informing on his comrades. Commemoration of the centenary of the battle, marked by a nationalist parade in Belfast on 6 June 1898, provoked loyalist riots.

In 1940, Sociologist Arthur F. Raper investigated one hundred lynchings after 1929 and estimated that approximately one-third of the victims were falsely accused.

It was not officially known if Garza Rendón collaborated with prosecutors by testifying against other cartel members or by giving them inside information about the syndicate, but one unnamed U.S. federal agent said that the information he provided was "substantial" for their investigations of the cartel. His boss, Cárdenas, was extradited to the U.S. in 2007 and faced trial on multiple charges in Houston; it is unknown if Garza Rendón gave investigators useful information about him. After serving most of his sentence, he was released from prison on 7 April 2009; it was unknown at the time if Garza Rendón was permitted to stay in the U.S. or if the U.S. government was planning to deport him to Mexico. A former DEA agent said that he would probably have to live the rest of his life in hiding to avoid being killed by members of the cartel for informing on them.

Mesirah (or mesira, ) is the action in which one Jew reports the conduct of another Jew to a non-rabbinic authority in a manner and under the circumstances forbidden by rabbinic Law. This may not necessarily apply to reporting legitimate crimes to responsible authority, but does apply to turning over a Jew to an abusive authority, or to a legitimate one who would punish the criminal in ways seen as excessive by Jewish community, though "excessive" punishment by non-Jews may be permissible if a precept of the Torah has been violated. The term for an individual who commits mesirah is moser (HE:מוסר) or mossur. A person who repeatedly violates this law by informing on his fellow Jews is considered subject to "Din Moser" (law of the informer), which is analogous to "Din rodef" in that both prescribe death for the offender, and according to some, in some circumstances the offender may be killed without warning.

In 1991 Phiber Optik, while attending the first CFP conference in San Francisco with Craig Neidorf, was invited to join a telephone conference bridge by fellow hackers where an apologetic Shulman expressed his remorse at how the situation had been blown out of proportion and his view that Goggans had crossed the line in informing on other hackers to law enforcement in an effort to increase the prestige of ComSec. Further, it was suspected by other LOD members that Goggans had baited Phoenix of the Australian hacker group The Realm, and was instrumental in providing evidence to Australian federal authorities. In 1993 at the third CFP conference, also in San Francisco, Phiber/Abene met a small handful of his old LOD friends (minus Goggans) for the first time in person despite having been friends for nearly 10 years by that point, and briefly reminisced about old times.
