Residents of a North Carolina neighborhood have decided to impose a toll on a private street to deter traffic during the busy summer months.

Faced with a choice of having to fund road infrastructure at the expense of development of Victoria's schools, hospitals and public transport, Brumby decided to impose a toll on the new Scoresby Freeway (later known as EastLink) in eastern Melbourne. The decision, which broke a 2002 pre-election promise, provoked a hostile response from the Liberal Opposition and local community groups as well as causing the (Liberal) Federal Government to withhold its share of the funding for the project.

At the beginning of the Ottoman Empire Sultan Suleiman entrusted the Abu Ghoshes with control of the route from the coast to Jerusalem and granted them official permission, a "farman", to impose a toll on all pilgrims and visitors entering Jerusalem. The churches of Jerusalem also paid an annual one-off tax to the Abu Ghoshes for their visitors. Palestine was part of Great Syria, and like Syria it was governed by feudal families until the middle of the 19th century. The Abu Ghoshes were among the most well-known feudal families in Palestine, formerly governing over 22 villages.

He re- established the popular assemblies, summoning them whenever it was necessary to rely on the entire population. Restructuring and disciplining Yaqui society to provide economic security and military preparedness, José instituted a system of taxation, and external trade control, initially establishing a tax on the ships that traded in the Yaqui River. To impose a toll on commercial traffic on its territory, in particular those who traded salt extracted from the coasts of the Yaqui nation, and to demand a premium from the cattle owners who the Yaquis stole cattle from upon their return.

The Beach at East Haven East Haven is a fishing village in the council area of Angus, Scotland. It is situated east of Carnoustie and south west of Arbroath. The closest city, Dundee, is to the west. East Haven has a long history and is first recorded (as 'Stinchendehavene') in deeds granted in 1214 by Philip de Valognes, Lord of Panmure, to the Cistercian monks of Coupar Angus, which gave them rights to build on the land there, to use the haven and to impose a toll on the fishings. Prachatice has its origins in the 11th century, following the beginning of trade on the Golden Path (an important salt trade route beginning in Passau, Bavaria). The property on which the town now stands was initially part of the domain of Vyšehrad and first came to prominence when the domain's provost purchased the right to impose a toll on traffic on the Golden Path. The settlement later grew in importance when, in the 13th century, it was granted the right to store the salt that was traded on the Golden Path. This privilege made Prachatice the only town in Southern Bohemia that could buy the salt that was sent out of Passau.

About 1234 the Emperor Frederick II granted an imperial vicariate to Ottone, although the exact nature of this appointment is unknown. Ottone, acting as vicar, did grant to a certain Guglielmo Piloso di Santa Vittoria the right to impose a toll on the road that passed through his domains. In 1235 Ottone sold his rights at Dego to a certain Giovanni Embriaco for 500 Genoese lire. That same year the monastery of San Pietro di Mesema challenged his sale of rights in Cairo in 1233, claiming that certain lands and the tithes collected in the territory, which earlier in 1235 Ottone had confirmed to the people of Cairo, belonged to the monastery.
