Ann Robinson (born May 25, 1929) is an American actress and stunt horse rider, perhaps best known for her work in the science-fiction classic The War of the Worlds (1953) and in the 1954 film Dragnet, in which she starred as a Los Angeles police officer opposite Jack Webb and Ben Alexander.

Einar Folke Emanuel Sandström (27 September 1892 – 18 August 1962) was a Swedish Army officer and horse rider who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. He and his horse Pergola finished 15th in the individual dressage and won a bronze medal with the Swedish dressage team. Sandström became major in the reserve in 1941.

Antonius Theodorus Colenbrander (3 May 1889 – 24 September 1929) was a Dutch horse rider. He competed at the 1924 Summer Olympics in the three-days event and at the 1928 Summer Olympics in jumping and won a gold medal with the Dutch team in 1924. Roger Édouard Louis Marie Joseph Ghislain Moeremans d'Emaüs (12 June 1890 - 19 March 1975) was a Belgian horse rider and rowing coxswain who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics. In 1920 he and his horse Sweet Girl won the bronze medal in the team eventing, after finishing fourth in the individual eventing competition. They also participated in the individual jumping event and finished seventh.

Smyth was actively involved in sport throughout her life. In her youth, she was a keen horse-rider and tennis player. She was a passionate golfer and a member of the ladies' section of Woking Golf Club, near where she lived. After she died and was cremated, her ashes were, as she had requested, scattered in the woods neighbouring the club by her brother Bob.

230px Zdzisław Szczęsny Kawecki-Gozdawa (May 21, 1902 in Husiatyn - April 1940 in Katyn) was a Polish horse rider who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. In 1936 he and his horse Bambino won the silver medal as part of the Polish eventing team, after finishing 18th in the individual eventing competition. Kawecki was killed by Soviet forces in the Katyn massacre in April 1940, aged 37.

Pierre Louis Marie Bertran de Balanda (28 September 1887 - 28 March 1946) was a French horse rider who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics. He was born in Toulouse and died in Marseille. In 1928, he and his horse Papillon won the silver medal in the individual jumping competition. They also finished fourth as part of the French jumping team in the team jumping competition.

Jan Hermannus van Reede (January 12, 1878 in Zwolle – November 15, 1956 in The Hague) was a Dutch horse rider who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. In the 1924 Summer Olympics he finished fourteenth in the individual dressage. Four years later he won the bronze medal in the team dressage with his horse Hans after finishing eighth in the individual dressage.

Born in Olive, Oklahoma, he was a cousin of Woody Guthrie. He grew up around horses and musical instruments before the family moved to California in the mid-1930s, where he took on the nicknames "Jack", "Oklahoma", and "Oke". He competed in rodeo as a bucking- horse rider and in 1937 traveled with Woody to Los Angeles where they landed on The Oke & Woody Show on KFVD radio in Hollywood.

In 1936 he and his horse Fossette won a team bronze medal, after finishing 21st individually. In 1948 he won another team bronze medal with his horse Fascinante, and placed twelfth in the individual competition.

Not to be confused with Atlas Shrugged character, Chick Morrison. Charles Pacific Morrison (1878-1924), an American silent film actor, was born April 3, 1878 in Morrison, Colorado. The grandson of pioneer town founder George Morrison, he was known as "Chick" to many who knew him, a nickname conjunction of his first and middle names. A keen horse rider, he often appeared in riding contests and rodeos throughout the American west.

Alexander "Alec" Brassey Jonathan Scott (16 October 1906 - 11 June 1978) was a British horse rider who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. In 1936 he and his horse Bob Clive won the bronze medal as part of the British eventing team, after finishing seventh in the individual eventing competition. Scott attended the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. In World War II, he joined the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards.

Payne lives in the south west with his wife and two children. He enjoys motorsports, cars and travel in his spare time. During his late teenage years and early twenties, Payne was an avid horse rider, both for pleasure and competition. Dartmoor National Park inspired Payne to write a walking series which was later commissioned by ITV and Payne remains a keen hill walker having recently completed the three peaks.

Helmer Fredrik Gustafsson Mörner (8 May 1895 – 5 January 1962), also known as Graf Helmer Morner, was a Swedish horse rider, who won individual and team gold medals in eventing at the 1920 Summer Olympics.Bryant, Jennifer (2000), Olympic Equestrian, p. 143, The Blood Horse, Inc., In 1914 Mörner enlisted to the Wendes Artillery Regiment (A 3) in Kristianstad, and served there until 1947 when he became professor at the Uppsala University.

Aernout van Lennep (23 February 1898 – 17 December 1974) was a Dutch horse rider. He competed in eventing at the 1932 Summer Olympics and won a team silver medal, finishing ninth individually. Van Lennep was a career artillery officer, and won the Dutch military championships in 1931. Arthur Guy Empey Born in Ogden, Utah, on 11 December 1883 to Rose Empey (née Dana) and Robert Empey. Schummelketel graduated from the Cadet School in Alkmaar and from the Koninklijke Militaire Academie (KMA) in his hometown of Breda. Between 1920 and 1928 he served as a cavalry lieutenant and adjutant in the Dutch East Indies, and later became a riding instructor at KMA.

Arthur Qvist (17 February 1896 – 20 September 1973) was a Norwegian military officer, Nazi collaborator and Olympic horse rider. He commanded the Waffen- SS's Norwegian Legion during World War II. Qvist competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics where he earned a silver medal and in the 1936 Summer Olympics. Wilhelm Eugen Johansen (1 February 1892 – 31 December 1973) was a Norwegian horse rider who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics, in the 1928 Summer Olympics, and in the 1936 Summer Olympics. In 1920 he and his horse Nökken finished eleventh in the individual eventing. The Norwegian eventing team did not finish the team eventing competition, because only two riders were able to finish the individual competition. Johnsen and Nökken also participated in the individual jumping event and finished 13th.

Charles Louis Pierre Marion (14 January 1887 - 16 November 1944) was a French horse rider who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics and in the 1932 Summer Olympics. In 1928 he and his horse Linon won the silver medal in the individual dressage competition. Four years later he and his horse Linon won the silver medal in the individual dressage competition again. They were also part of the French dressage team which won the gold medal in the team dressage event.

Hans E. Bühler (April 12, 1893 – June 1, 1967) was a Swiss horse rider who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics. In 1924 he and his horse Sailor Boy won the silver medal as part of the Swiss team in the team jumping competition, after finishing twentieth in the individual jumping event. He and his horse Mikosch also participated in the individual eventing and finished 14th. As member of the Swiss eventing team they finished fourth in the team eventing.

Jack Sully was born Arthur McDonald in Virginia circa 1850. Sully graduated from an American or Canadian college and was living in Hamilton, Ontario, by the early 1870s. During that decade, he moved to the southern area of the Dakota Territory (to what is now South Dakota) and gained employment as a cowboy. There, he became a skillful horse rider as well as a good shooter. In 1872, Sully was elected Charles Mix County, South Dakota, sheriff in a landslide, winning the vote 61-1.

Wild West Weekly was a dime novel later turned pulp magazine. On October 24, 1902 Frank Tousey released his first issue of the 5-cent dime novel Wild West Weekly called "The Prince in the Saddle". Written by Frank, though said to be written by "An Old Scout", it created a story centered around the character Young Wild West, a "bright, handsome boy of eighteen with a wealth of waving chestnut hair hanging down his back". Hélder de Souza Martins (born November 28, 1901, date of death unknown) was a Portuguese horse rider who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics, the 1928 Summer Olympics and the 1948 Summer Olympics. In 1924 he and his horse Avro won the bronze medal as part of the Portuguese show jumping team, after finishing twelfth in the individual jumping competition. Four years later he and his horse Avro finished sixth as part of the Portuguese show jumping team, after finishing 16th in the individual jumping competition.

Born as Benjamin Allen McDonnell on June 2, 1992 in Maplewood, Minnesota, McDonnell spent much of his childhood in New Richmond, Wisconsin. In high school, he frequently traveled to Los Angeles to take acting classes, and temporarily moved to Los Angeles, California after graduating high school. Afterwards, McDonnell received a degree from Art Institutes International Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and then moved back to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. McDonnell has also been an avid horse rider since the age of 9.

Ephraim Foster Graham (Nashville, Tennessee August 10, 1888 - Fort Sam Houston, Texas, December 23, 1962) was an American horse rider who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. Graham graduated from West Point in 1903, and was commissioned in the 10th Cavalry Regiment.AOG obituary In 1912, he competed in the military riding event for the U.S. Military team. He and his horse Connie won the bronze medal as member of the American team in the team eventing after finishing twelfth in the individual eventing competition.

Fannie Sperry Steele, Champion Lady Bucking Horse Rider, Winnipeg Stampede, 1913 By 1920, women were participating in rodeos as relay racers, trick riders, and rough stock riders.Groves: 7 In 1928, one third of all rodeos featured women's competitive events. However, the Cheyenne Frontier Days ended its women's rough stock riding events that year, and in 1929, bronc rider Bonnie McCarroll died during the Pendleton Round-Up when she was thrown from a horse and dragged around the arena, her foot snagged in a stirrup.

Claës Henrik Magnus König (15 January 1885 – 25 November 1961) was a Swedish nobleman, officer, Crown Equerry (1935–1946) and horse rider, who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics and in the 1924 Summer Olympics. In 1920 he and his horse Tresor were part of the Swedish equestrian team, which won the gold medal in the team jumping event in Antwerp. Four years later he and his horse Bojar won the silver medal with the Swedish eventing team after finishing fifth in the individual eventing in Paris.

Clarence von Rosen's tomb stone Clarence von Rosen Jr. (November 10, 1903 – July 7, 1933) was a Swedish horse rider who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics. In 1932 he and his horse Sunnyside Maid won the bronze medal in the individual eventing. At the same Olympics he also won the bronze medal in the individual jumping competition with his horse Empire. In both events the Swedish team was not able to complete the competition with three riders, therefore he was unable to win team medals.

Alphonse Gemuseus (8 May 1898 - 28 January 1981) was a Swiss horse rider who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. In 1924 he and his horse Lucette won the gold medal in the individual jumping competition. They also won the silver medal as part of the Swiss team in the team jumping competition. Four years later he and Lucette finished eighth as part of the Swiss team in the team jumping competition as well as in the individual jumping event.

Reins consist of leather straps or rope attached to the outer ends of a bit and extend to the rider's or driver's hands. Reins are the means by which a horse rider or driver communicates directional commands to the horse's head. Pulling on the reins can be used to steer or stop the horse. The sides of a horse's mouth are sensitive, so pulling on the reins pulls the bit, which then pulls the horse's head from side to side, which is how the horse is controlled.

José Navarro Morenés, iure uxoris Count of Casa Loja, (December 8, 1897 - December 13, 1974) was a Spanish horse rider who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics, in the 1928 Summer Olympics, and in the 1948 Summer Olympics. He was born in Madrid. In the 1924 Summer Olympics he finished 30th in the individual jumping and placed eighth with the Spain team in the team jumping. Four years later he won the gold medal as part of the Spanish team in the team jumping with his horse Zapatazo after finishing fifth in the individual jumping.

Kazimierz Szosland (February 21, 1891, Grzymaczew, Kalisz Governorate – April 20, 1944) was a Polish horse rider, major of the Polish Army, who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. He fought in the wars with Ukraine and Soviet Russia and was killed in action during World War II. In 1924 he finished 23rd in the individual three-day event and placed seventh in the team three-day event. In the individual jumping competition he finished 32nd. The Polish team finished in sixth position.

Freestyle to Music, sometimes known as Musical Kur or simply kur (from German kür, "freestyle") is a form of dressage competition where the horses paces are set to music to create a competitive "dance". Movements and figures are choreographed to meet the technical requirements of the particular level with carefully chosen music that highlights the horse/rider combination. Musical Freestyles are entertaining and offer great audience appeal. International level competition comprises Prix St. Georges for Young Riders, Intermediate I and Grand Prix through the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI).

Gerard Pieter de Kruijff (27 January 1890 in Buren – 16 October 1968 in Deventer) was a Dutch horse rider who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. In the 1924 Summer Olympics he won the gold medal in the team three-day event and placed thirteenth in the individual three-day event. Four years later he won again the gold medals in the team three-day event and in the individual three-day event he won the silver medal. In Amsterdam he also competed in the jumping events.

Blinks and Flim Flam were the leading horse-rider pair on the United States' silver medal dressage team at the 2002 World Equestrian Games, topping their 1998 win. After his retirement in the summer of 2004, Flim Flam was relaxing in a field when he showed signs of colic. After his condition was noticed, he was taken to the Palm Beach Equine in Wellington, Florida. Flim Flam died October 28, 2004, of complications arising from colic surgery; his stomach burst, causing him to be euthanized on the operating table.

An off-duty Capt. Manjinder Singh Bhinder of the 61st Cavalry of the Indian army and a talented horse- rider, out celebrating his success at a recent national games with his family and a junior officer at the movie hall, gave his and his family's lives up saving over 150 people, on his personal initiative. Rushing out along with his family at first, realising the gravity of the unfolding tragedy, he and his people went back inside and tried to set order and guide people out to safety.

Performing in 1905 In 1903, Zelle moved to Paris, where she performed as a circus horse rider using the name Lady MacLeod, much to the disapproval of the Dutch MacLeods. Struggling to earn a living, she also posed as an artist's model. By 1904, Mata Hari began to win fame as an exotic dancer. She was a contemporary of dancers Isadora Duncan and Ruth St. Denis, leaders in the early modern dance movement, which around the turn of the 20th century looked to Asia and Egypt for artistic inspiration.

Peters was born at 38 Queen Street in Salford, in Lancashire, England. James Peters's Jamaican father, George, had been mauled to death in a training cage by lions. His mother, Hannah Gough originally from Shropshire, was unable to look after him so allowed him to join another circus troupe as a bareback horse rider. He was abandoned by the circus at age 11, having broken his arm, and found himself in Fegan's orphanage in Southwark, and then Little Wanderers' Home in Greenwich, where he captained many of their sports teams.

Marcelino Gavilán y Ponce de León (4 June 1909 - 9 March 1999) was a Spanish horse rider who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics and in the 1952 Summer Olympics. In 1948 he and his horse Forajido won the silver medal as part of the Spain jumping team in the team jumping competition, after finishing 16th in the individual jumping competition. Four years later he and his horse Quoniam finished tenth as part of the Spanish team in the team jumping event, after finishing 30th in the individual jumping.

Born in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Mona Bell went for one year to the University of North Dakota across the state line in Grand Forks, North Dakota; she apparently stood out there for her skills at basketball. She was a fine horse rider and good with a rifle and a pistol. She was a rodeo rider (she rode broncs in male disguise).. By her own account, she appeared in Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show (although her biographer John A. Harrison was unable to verify that). She later became a reporter for various U.S. newspapers.

As she was a horse rider, she was able to serve in a signals platoon. After returning to Warsaw in 1917, following the Oath crisis, Gertz joined the women's branch of the clandestine Polish Military Organisation - Polska Organizacja Wojskowa. On 8 December 1917 during a demonstration in Saviour Square - (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw, Gertz was arrested and sentenced to six months in prison, but having paid bail, she was released after a few weeks. Upon release she worked as a courier, and was involved in disarming German troops in November 1918.

The Emblem of the National Guard consists of an image of the sun's rays with a silhouette of a floating eagle similar to the eagle on the national flag, covered with a blue stripe at the bottom and a silhouette of a horse rider with a flag pole in their hands. At the bottom, the words National Guard, written in the Kazakh language are in between the sun and the eagle. Regional commanders, formations and military units of the National Guard have standard their own battle flags, usually belonging to a particular regiment.

Eventually he became renowned for his ability to sustain his yodel for an unusually long time, a skill he reportedly learned while swimming underwater for several minutes at a time. Jack Guthrie, the cousin of Woody Guthrie, performed in the thirties and early forties. Known as "Oklahoma's Yodeling Cowboy", he developed a style of singing and yodeling influenced by his idol, Jimmie Rodgers, and his experiences as a bucking-horse rider and rodeo performer. Known as the "Texas Drifter," Goebel Reeves claimed to have taught Jimmie Rodgers to yodel, which is doubtful.

Georg Gustaf Wilhelm von Braun (21 March 1886 – 23 August 1972) was a Swedish horse rider who competed in the 1920 and 1924 Summer Olympics. In 1920 he and his horse Diana finished eighth in the individual eventing competition and won a gold medal with the Swedish eventing team. Four years later he finished 19th in the individual jumping and was a non-scoring member of the gold medal winning Swedish team. Von Braun began his military training in 1904, and after 1906 served with the Gotland Artillery Corps.

Jules Bonvalet (born 18 June 1888, date of death unknown) was a Belgian horse rider who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics and in the 1924 Summer Olympics. In 1920 he and his horse Weppelghem won the bronze medal in the team eventing, after finishing twelfth in the individual eventing competition. They also participated in the individual jumping event and finished fifteenth. Four years later he and his horse Weppelghem finished fifth as member of the Belgian equipé in the team eventing, after finishing 16th in the individual eventing competition.

Antonio Franconi (1737 in Venice, Italy - 1836 in Paris, France) was an Italian equestrian. He started as a juggler and wandering physician, then arranged bullfights in Lyon and Bordeaux. In 1783, he associated with the English horse rider Philip Astley who had opened a riding school in Paris and founded an equestrian theater named Cirque Olympique (French, Olympic circus), which acquired an impressive reputation. His sons and grandsons continued to attract the public with the talent of their squired and the perfection of their showmanship in their fantasy and military plays.

Edwin "Ed" Yancey Argo (September 22, 1895 – March 10, 1962) was an American horse rider who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics. Argo was born in Hollis, Alabama, on September 22, 1895. He received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and started school there in 1915. When World War One began, he dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army as a private on May 12, 1917. After the war, in 1919, he returned to the Military Academy and graduated as a second lieutenant.

Isaac Leonard Kitts (January 15, 1896 – April 1, 1953) was an American horse rider who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics and in the 1936 Summer Olympics. In 1932 he and his horse American Lady won the bronze medal as member of the American dressage team in the team dressage competition after finishing sixth in the individual dressage event. Four years later he and his horse American Lady finished ninth as part of the American dressage team in the team dressage competition after finishing 25th in the individual dressage event.

Takeda is the third son of Prince Tsuneyoshi Takeda and great-grandson of Emperor Meiji. Both Tsunekazu Takeda and his son Tsuneyasu Takeda studied at Keio University and later taught there. Takeda has been a keen horse rider through his whole life. He competed in show jumping at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics and finished in 16th and 13th place, respectively, with the Japanese team. Later he coached the Japanese equestrian team at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Olympics and was Chef de Mission at the 2002 and 2004 Games.

Certain environmental conditions can lead to the algae spreading over large areas. In August 2009, unprecedented levels of the algae washed up on the beaches of Brittany, France, causing a major public health scare as it decomposed. The rotting thalli produced large quantities of hydrogen sulfide, a toxic gas which, like hydrogen cyanide, inhibits cytochrome c oxidase, inhibiting cellular respiration and resulting in critical cellular hypoxia. In one incident near Saint-Michel-en-Grève, a horse rider lost consciousness and his horse died after breathing the seaweed fumes.

Werner Mortimer Stuber (January 27, 1900 – February 7, 1957) was a Swiss horse rider who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. In 1924 he and his horse Girandole won the silver medal as part of the Swiss team in the team jumping competition, after finishing 14th in the individual jumping event. He also participated in the individual dressage event and finished twentieth with his horse Queen Mary. Four years later he finished 25th in the individual dressage event with his horse Ulhard.

Jacques Pierre Joseph Marie Misonne (11 December 1892 in Leuven, Vlaams Brabant, Belgium – 25 September 1968 in Haut-Ittre, Brabant Wallon, Belgium) was a Belgian horse rider who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics, in the 1924 Summer Olympics, and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. In 1920, he and his horse Gaucho finished 17th in the individual eventing competition. They also participated in the individual jumping event and finished 25th. Four years later, riding Torino, he finished fourth with the Belgian team in the team jumping competition after finishing 13th in the individual jumping event.

Anatoly Anatolyevich's great-grandmother, Nadezhda Durova, was the first female officer in the Russian Army, who became a decorated soldier in the Russian cavalry during the Napoleonic wars. His mother, née Tereza Stadler, was a talented circus horse rider of German descent and owned the Bavarian Circus] Long and successful tours led her to make Russia her home. His father, Anatoly Durov, was born to an old noble family and broke with it to join a traveling troupe. Anatoly (Jr.) was a good acrobat, a magician, and a monologue reciter.

Aileen Moss had also been involved in motorsport, entering prewar hillclimbs at the wheel of a Singer Nine. Stirling was a gifted horse rider as was his younger sister, Pat Moss, who became a successful rally driver and married the Swedish rally driver Erik Carlsson. Moss was educated at several independent schools: Shrewsbury House School in Surbiton, Clewer Manor Junior School, and the linked senior school, Haileybury and Imperial Service College, located at Hertford Heath, near Hertford. He disliked school and did not attain a good academic performance.

Emmanuel de Blommaert de Soye (15 October 1875 – 12 April 1944) was a Belgian horse rider who competed in the 1912 and 1920 Summer Olympics. In 1912 he won the bronze medal in the individual jumping competition, riding Clomore, and finished sixths with the Belgian team in the team jumping event. In the individual dressage competition he was 21st. In the individual eventing contest he was disqualified in the cross country ride, and the Belgian team was unplaced in the team eventing competition, when none of their riders were able to finish.

P.M.R. Versteegh (1935) Pierre Marie Robert Versteegh (June 6, 1888 in Kedoeng Banteng, Sragen, Dutch East Indies – May 3, 1942 in Sachsenhausen concentration camp) was a Dutch horse rider who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics and in the 1936 Summer Olympics. In the 1928 Summer Olympics he won the bronze medal in the team dressage with his horse His Excellence after finishing ninth in the individual dressage. Eight years later he finished fifth with the Dutch team in the team dressage and placed eighth in the individual dressage. The Kdo Oranienburg executed him by firing squad.

Born in 1905 in Bedale in North Yorkshire, Askquith was daughter of Charlie Askquith, a butcher. Some sources suggest she was a despatch rider during the First World War but this seems unlikely given she was 13 years of age when war ended in 1918. This confusion may have arisen as she served as a despatch rider for the Auxiliary Fire Service during the Second World War. In the early 1920s, Askquith was a keen, competitive and talented horse rider from an early age, winning cups for riding in local shows and at point-to-point events including the Bedale Derby in 1923.

Petráss quickly mastered singing in English and performed at the Daly's Theatre in Edwardes's English language version of Franz Lehár's Gipsy Love (1912) at Daly's Theatre, which ran 299 performances.Traubner, pp. 238–239, She then performed at Daly's in The Marriage Market (1913) and in a revival of A Waltz Dream (1913), all with Gertie Millar and Robert Michaelis. Petráss was an expert horse rider, and rode a donkey called Jenny in the opening scenes of The Marriage Market. In February 1916, the American media spread a rumour that Petráss had been executed in Budapest as a spy.

Louis Burton Lindley Jr. was born in Kingsburg, California, the son of Sally Mosher (née Turk) and Louis Bert Lindley Sr., a Texas-born dairy farmer. Young Lindley was an excellent horse rider from an early age. Known as "Burt" to his family and friends, he grew bored with dairy farming and began to make a few dollars by riding broncos and roping steers in his early teens. His father found out and forbade this activity, but Lindley took no notice, went to compete in a rodeo, and was told by the doubtful rodeo manager that there would be "slim pickin's" (i.e.

He is also known as the Dacian knight Derzelas or Derzis. He has been depicted on a throne or riding a horse, holding a bow in his left hand, joined by a snake going downwards towards the horse’s head and an eagle holding a fish in his beak and a rabbit in his claws. Other times he is depicted as a warrior, riding a horse, followed by a dog holding a lance, throwing it towards a wild boar, or as a peaceful horse rider holding a torch and a cornucopia. At this level, the freestyle tests may contain all the Grand Prix movements, as well as double canter pirouettes, pirouettes in piaffe, and half-pass in passage.

Dymkovo toy Dymkovo toys, also known as the Vyatka toys or Kirov toys (Дымковская игрушка, вятская игрушка, кировская игрушка in Russian) are moulded painted clay figures of people and animals (sometimes in the form of a pennywhistle). It is one of the old Russian folk art handicrafts, which still exists in a village of Dymkovo near Kirov (former Vyatka). Traditionally, the Dymkovo toys are made by women. The tradition of making pennywhistles in the form of a horse, a horse rider, and a bird goes back to the ancient magic ritual images and has to do with the agricultural calendar holidays.

The BHS caused controversy in November 2006, by issuing an award to the U.K. Ministry of Defence for actions taken to improve the safety for horse riders in areas of the country used for low flight level aircraft training. The M.O.D. had previously been found directly responsible for the death of a novice horse rider and had been ordered to address their low flying policies as a result. Some felt the award was ethically improper; particularly so since the BHS had used the name of the accident victim in promotional material without the consent of the family members.

It’s illegal — it’s a very valid rule about protecting the horses. So the very thing we were trying to do was not allowed. And we only had 70 horses ... Philip R. Goodwin (September 16, 1881 – December 14, 1935) was an American painter and illustrator who specialized in depictions of wildlife, the outdoors, fishing, hunting and the Old American West. He provided illustrations for numerous books and magazines, as well as for commercial items, such as posters, advertisements and calendars. He is perhaps best known for illustrating Jack London's The Call of the Wild and for providing the cover art for many issues of Outdoor Recreation / Outdoor Life Magazine during the 1920s and early 1930s. He is also the artist who designed the Horse & Rider Trademark of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company.

Contemporary circuses perform in a variety of venues including tents, theatres and casinos. Many circus performances are still held in a ring, usually 13 m (42 ft) in diameter. This dimension was adopted by Astley in the late 18th century as the minimum diameter that enabled an acrobatic horse rider to stand upright on a cantering horse to perform their tricks. Lloyds Signal Station Before the advent of the telegraph ships had no means of communication with their owners and could only send messages by semaphore, when they were close to the shore. The telegraph reached Falmouth in 1857 and G. C. Fox & Company built a signal station at Bass Point with the intention of laying a telegraph cable from Falmouth. The Post Office intervened and the Lloyds Signal Station was opened on 1 April 1872. Initially communications between ship and shore were by flags and the messages were then sent to Helston by post or by horse rider.

The truce was celebrated in Manila with a fiesta in Manila for the entire month of January 1898. The MJC intended to celebrate the truce by holding a race known as the ("Grand Manila Cup") in May 1898. The prize trophy for the winning horse rider would have been a silver cup made in Hong Kong, embellished with horses' heads and a likeness of Justitia, the goddess of justice. Heather Rose Rich (January 19, 1980October 3, 1996) was the third of four children and only daughter born to Gail and Duane Rich. Heather was an avid horse rider and a talented musician, and has been described by her family as "a naive girl with a big heart." An academically successful sophomore who was popular with her peers at Waurika High School, she had a notably excitable personality. According to one of her friends, despite her façade of ebullience, Heather was a "very troubled" teenager, and she began to exhibit troublesome behavior both at home and at school in the late summer and early fall of 1996.

H. Rider Haggard, KBE (; 1856 – 1925) was an English writer, largely of adventure fiction, but also of non-fiction. The eighth child of a Norfolk barrister and squire, through family connections he gained employment with Sir Henry Bulwer during the latter's service as lieutenant-governor of Natal, South Africa. Rider Haggard travelled to southern Africa in 1875 and remained in the country for six years, during which time he served as Master of the High Court of the Transvaal and an adjutant of the Pretoria Horse. Rider Haggard's time in Africa proved inspirational for him, and while still in Natal he wrote two articles for The Gentleman's Magazine describing his experiences.

Trip to Hell and Back is the true story of Trip Harting, a famous horse rider who lived a double life as a crystal-methamphetamine dealer in the Washington DC's gay drug scene. Harting was one of the top Dressage riders in the United States and also had a shot at the Olympics; however, he was also one of the largest meth dealers in Washington DC until he was arrested by DEA agents. In the documentary, Harting reveals the story of his double life for the first time. In 2008, Harting was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and died just a few weeks after the film's premiere.

Russell Fannie Sperry Steele, Champion lady bucking horse rider, Winnipeg Stampede, 1913 The history of women in the west, and women who worked on cattle ranches in particular, is not as well documented as that of men. However, institutions such as the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame have made significant efforts in recent years to gather and document the contributions of women. There are few records mentioning girls or women working to drive cattle up the cattle trails of the Old West. However women did considerable ranch work, and in some cases (especially when the men went to war or on long cattle drives) ran them.

Hisham Ben Ghalbon was born in Benghazi in 1955. He studied at the city's Model Primary School then at Salah-Eddin High School before traveling to Tripoli to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tripoli. He was a keen horse rider and owner and was an active member in the Benghazi Riding Club since its 1969 foundation, where he won several trophies in local and national show jumping competitions. In Tripoli he took part in the April 1976 peaceful student revolt which later became known as the "first uprising" and was among dozens of students arrested and detained by the regime's "revolutionary elements" that had taken over the university.

Maylam concluded that the hoodening tradition was "a mutilated survival" of a form of Morris dance. Noting that some medieval Morris dancers had incorporated games devoted to the English folk hero Robin Hood into their custom, he suggested that hoodening might have originally been a reference to Robin Hood. This idea was challenged by Burne, who noted that in his legends, Robin Hood was always depicted as an archer rather than a horse-rider, thus questioning how he had come to be associated with the hooden horse. Henryk Leliwa-Roycewicz (30 July 1898 in Janopol, Ryki County – 18 June 1990 in Warsaw) was a Polish Major of the Cavalry and horse rider who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. In 1936 he and his horse Arlekin III (translated as Harlequin III in English) won the silver medal as part of the Polish eventing team, after finishing 15th in the individual eventing competition. Leliwa- Roycewicz was a career officer of the Cavalry of the Polish Army. He fought in the September Campaign of World War II. After Polish defeat he joined the Home Army and later commanded one of the battalions during the Warsaw Uprising.

Bjart Ording (19 May 1898 – 12 October 1975) was a Norwegian horse rider who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics and in the 1952 Summer Olympics. In 1928 he and his horse And Over won the silver medal as member of the Norwegian eventing team in the team eventing competition after finishing sixth in the individual eventing. He and his horse Fram I finished eleventh as part of the Swiss jumping team in the team jumping competition after finishing 36th in the individual jumping event. Twenty-four years later at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki he finished 29th with his horse Fram II in the individual jumping competition.

Jillian Terceira was not originally chosen to participate on Bermuda's Olympic team, and was passed up for Patrick Nisbett and his horse, Antille 8. This occurred when neither Terceira nor Nisbett qualified for an Olympic spot at the equestrian finals in Hong Kong, caused in part by the injury of Terceira's horse, Navantus. Because Bermuda was allowed only one horse rider, the Bermuda Equestrian Federation awarded their one reserved Olympic spot to Nisbett because Terceira's horse had been injured during the course of the event. Terceira argued that she had a second horse, Chaka III, who should have been used in the injured Navantus' place, was regularly faster than Nisbett's Antille 8 and should have earned the qualification position.

Frank Hugo Martin (30 December 1885 – 28 August 1962) was a Swedish horse rider who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics. He and his horse Kohort were part of the Swedish equestrian team that won the gold medal in jumping; however, Martin did not receive a medal because only three best performers from each team were counted, while he placed fourth. In 1904 Martin entered the Royal War Academy and graduated in 1906, becoming a lieutenant with the dragoons of the King's Own Regiment. He later continued his military studies at the Strömsholm Riding School, at the War College, at the French Riding School in Saumur (1923), and at the Shooting School in Rosersberg (1925).

Joshua Riker-Fox (born September 6, 1983) is a four-time Pan American Games modern pentathlete from Canada. He is also a four-time Canadian national champion, and a bronze medalist at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Riker-Fox started out his sporting career as a horse rider and a member of the Pony Club, until he began with modern pentathlon at the age of eleven, when he was truly inspired by the 1992 Canadian Olympic team. Riker-Fox made his international debut in 2003, when he qualified for the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and finished seventh in the men's event.

Charles Ferdinand Pahud de Mortanges (13 May 1896 in 's-Gravenhage – 7 April 1971 in 's-Gravenhage) was a Dutch horse rider who competed at the 1924, 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics and was the flag bearer for the Netherlands in 1932. He is only one of three equestrians (Mark Todd and Michael Jung) to win two consecutive Olympic titles in the individual three-day event. Besides his riding achievements, de Mortanges was president or vice president of the National Olympic Committee (1946–1961) and a member of the International Olympic Committee (1946–1964). He was also a top commanding officer of the Royal Netherlands Motorized Infantry Brigade in 1944–1945 and later a senior army official overseeing the official ceremonies involving the Dutch Royal Family.

The scion of an old and prosperous boyar family, Cosmin Ciotloş, "Câteva metode" (III), in România Literară, Nr. 13/2009 Nicodin lived in Bucharest, where his main residence was the Capşa Hotel. He was reportedly a passionate hunter, sharing this hobby with the other surviving members of Romanian boyardom. Lucia Demetrius, "Memorii" , in România Literară, Nr. 4/2004 His other activities centered on eccentric and adventurous pursuits: a dueler and a horse rider, he was also a financial expert, and once tasked by the government with overseeing the liquidation of a bank. Although discovered late in life, his literary ambition is said to have led him to consider writing not just novels, but also screenplays and studies, in several languages.

Her first leading role was as "Sylvia Van Buren" in The War of the Worlds (1953) co-starring with Gene Barry, a role she quasi- reprised in two later films, first as Dr. Van Buren in Midnight Movie Massacre (1988) and then as Dr. Sylvia Van Buren in The Naked Monster (2005). She also reprised the role in three episodes of the television series War of the Worlds (1988).

Berthe would become an accomplished silversmith herself, a rarity in the day for a woman. Berthe was the daughter of circus performers with Ringling Brothers. A trapeze artist and bareback horse rider for three years in the circus, she met Frank Schofield while performing a vaudeville show at the Maryland Theater in Baltimore. 1915 would bring the purchase of the tools and dies of long time Baltimore silversmiths JENKINS & JENKINS, which dated back to 1871. Heer-Schofield would start using the 1871 as the founding date of the company, which was two years before Frank Schofield was born. By 1922 Herr-Schofield was located at 308-10 St. Paul St. in Baltimore. A 1927 catalog of flatware patterns and hollowware was produced.

Konrad Freiherr von Wangenheim (20 August 1909 in Hanover – 28 January 1953) was a German army Cavalry officer, a horse rider who competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, securing a gold medal for the German equestrian team whilst suffering from a broken collarbone. In 1936 he and his horse Kurfürst won the gold medal as part of the German eventing team in the team eventing competition after finishing 24th in the individual eventing competition. Wangenheim became a Captain (Rittmeister) with Cavalry Regiment No. 8 (Reiter-Regiment 8, later renamed Kavallerie-Regiment 8) garrisoned at Breig in Silesia. In July 1944, while serving as a German Army officer on the Eastern Front during the Second World War, he was captured by the Red Army.

In 1687, the 7th Count, Dom Miguel de Portugal (Michael of Portugal), died without legitimate issue. To avoid that such an illustrious family would be extinct, the King Pedro II of Portugal, through a special decree, issued on December 13, 1681, legitimated the count's natural son, Francisco de Paula (or Francis III), as 8th Count, giving him all his father's honours and titles. During the romantic period, the 13th Count of Vimioso (1817–1865) was quite a popular personality not only among aristocracy but also throughout the Portuguese society: he was a remarkable horse-rider, participating in bullfightings, with a bohemian life style; his mistress was the quite known fado singer, Maria Severa, and the story was later popularized by literature, music (the famous Fado do Conde de Vimioso), theatre and movies (A Severa).

The precursor of DOSAAF was the OSOAVIAKhIM (ОСОАВИАХИМ, Союз обществ содействия обороне и авиационно-химическому строительству СССР, Union of Societies of Assistance to Defense and Aviation- Chemical Construction of the USSR) created on 27 January 1927 by merging the Society of Assistance to Defense (Общество Содействия Обороне (ОСО)), Society of Friends of the Air Force (Общество друзей Воздушного флота (ОДВФ)) and Society of Friends of Chemical Defense and the Chemical Industry (Общество друзей химической обороны и химической промышленности (Доброхим СССР)). The goal of the society was preparation of reserves for armed forces. It soon became a powerful paramilitary with its own airfields, radio clubs, parachuting towers, and firing ranges. It became prestigious and romantic among Soviet youth to earn badges such as "Voroshilov sharpshooter" (), "Voroshilov horse rider" () and "Distinguished Parachute Jumper".

Bradford was born in Bega, New South Wales and grew up in Rubyvale, Queensland where her father, John 'Charles' Bradford, had been involved in the mining industry as a prospector and washing plant owner since approximately 1902. Having been a member of Fitzgerald's circus, Charles with his wife Emily, was also the proprietor of Bradford's Surprise Party Circus and Piano Orchestra which featured members of the Bradford family performing musical and comedy numbers and offering a program of acrobatic and trapeze acts held within their own marque or inside meeting halls throughout Far North Queensland in the early 1900s. May Bradford was an accomplished horse rider, competing in shows and being awarded the fastest time ever recordered by a man or woman for hunt riding on the Brisbane Showground in 1920. She was also an expert rifle shot and sportswoman.

Lon (Loncey Dalton Ysabel; also "Cuchilo", the Knife, among the Comanche; or "Cabrito", literally "little he-goat" and hence a synonym for one meaning of the English word "Kid", to Spanish- speakers) is the third member of the principal triumvirate of the Floating Outfit stories. Half Kentucky Irish, one-quarter French Creole and one-quarter Comanche, Loncey was raised as a member of his grandfather's "Dog Soldier" Lodge and received Comanche training until adolescence. Because of this he is fully the equal of any full-blood Indian in skills such as stealth and tracking, speaks several Indian languages and can communicate in sign language, and is an expert horse-rider and trainer. His personal mount is an exceptionally fierce white stallion named, with deliberate irony, "Nigger" ("Blackie" in some editions) which he trained as a boy.

Juan Picasso González (22 August 1857 – 5 April 1935) was a Spanish military man and general who participated in the Rif War with the Spanish Army of Africa in late 19th century and early 20th century. He was a military investigation instructor known for "Expediente Picasso" (Picasso Files), an investigation report related to the historical defeat of the Spanish Army, some 20,000 soldiers and officers, of which some 8,000 were killed, against the Riffian rebels at the Battle of Annual, on July 1,1921; known as The disaster of Annual. He was the second-degree uncle of the worldwide famous painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso, through one of his Picasso family nieces. Born at Málaga in 1857, he joined the Academia de Estado Mayor in 1876, where he was one of the brightest students and an accomplished horse rider.

For example, a course designer might set up a line so that there are six and a half strides (the standard measure for a canter stride is twelve feet) between the jumps, requiring the rider to adjust the horse's stride dramatically in order to make the distance. Unlike show hunter classes, which reward calmness and style, jumper classes require boldness, scope, power, accuracy, and control; speed also is a factor, especially in jump-off courses and speed classes (when time counts even in the first round). The first round of the class consists of the rider and horse having to go around the course without refusing or knocking down any jumps while also staying within the time allowed. If the horse/rider combination completes the first round successfully, then they move on to the second round, called the "jump-off".

Four of them were invited to compete in their respective sporting events, with the other two qualifying for the Games on merit. Among the sports represented by the athletes, Palestine marked its Olympic debut in equestrian. In any case, if Francisco Romero is not the inventor of the modern bullfight, he is the first matador that became professional and made a living from bull fighting. His success implied a fundamental and radical change in the bullfight art: up to him, the main part of the corrida (bullfight or bullrun) was the piking of the bull from a horse, followed by bullfighting on horse and then some use of cape by helpers on foot, but the horse rider was the protagonist of the bull party. The death of the bull was only the end of the bullfight and it wasn't particularly celebrated. After Francisco Romero, and after some years when both bullfighting styles (on foot and riding a horse) fought for public support, on-horse bullfight started to lose the protagonist role it had and the death of the bull by a lonely man on foot, armed only with a sword, became the most important part of a bullfight.

In February 2007, the band announced their first tour dates in three-and-a-half years, performing material from the EP as well as their unreleased album. They released Beyond the Last Light the same year to positive reviews, with Greg Prato of Allmusic stating that "[m]usically, Comes with the Fall certainly has a soft spot for the big riff thang (DuVall also supplies six-string in the band), as evidenced by the Kyuss-esque "Rockslide" and the Audioslave-ish "Pale Horse Rider."" and that they were "a rock band in the early 21st century that won't sound out of place on rock radio, but that you also won't be embarrassed to admit liking" The same year, DuVall fronted Alice in Chains on the "ReEvolution Tour" with Velvet Revolver while Davies temporarily joined Static-X, filling in for injured drummer Nick Oshiro, as well as Invitro, filling in for Bennie Cancino on the Family Values Tour. With all members active in other projects, Stanger is performing with The Young Royals, Comes with the Fall were effectively put on hiatus.
