Until the 1960s, the area where most of the holiday homes now stand was marshland. The water was drained away through a series of ditches and channels connected to a powerful pumping station. Essert-Romand is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne- Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. The old Owhango Post Office (c.1919) Ōwhango began as a mill town, milling native timbers from around the local area. The last operational mill burned to the ground in the 1970s. Many of the mill houses are now holiday homes owned by city dwellers keen on the skiing, fishing, hunting, canoeing and tramping opportunities that abound in the surrounding area.
The cliffs, steep banks, fast flowing water and high bridges attract both walkers and drivers. In several places the river is dammed to form long, deep lakes. It is also one of the better known surf breaks in County Clare. The name refers to the wrecking of some ships of the Spanish Armada off the coast.
Diaporos Island () is an island of about one and a half square miles in the Singitic Gulf, Chalkidiki, northern Greece. In 1950 it had no inhabitants, however since the 1980s many private holiday homes have been built on the island. The summer period sees many visitors especially for the beach at Galana Nera. The permanent population at the 2011 census was 2 inhabitants.
Castle Hill Village in June 2012 In 2014, there were 126 houses in the village. Most are holiday homes but some have permanent residents, including Reid who still lives there. A daily school bus service runs to Springfield, just over from Castle Hill Village. There are no public facilities other than a public toilet at the village hall and a children's playground.

It is the most expensive place to live in Anglesey in terms of house prices. In 1994, Mackintosh bought the Nevis Estate, on North Morar, to the east of Mallaig in the West Highlands of Scotland, covering around . Waikawa is a small settlement to the north east of Picton, Marlborough, New Zealand. Waikawa Bay opens onto Queen Charlotte Sound. Although Waikawa has no shops with basic provisions, some basic items can be purchased at holiday parks, some accommodation apartments and many luxury holiday homes along the shoreline.

The abbey's monks scattered and its goods were sold in 1739. The buildings were sold as state property in 1790, and all that remains of the main abbey buildings is the 15th-century chambre des hôtes. After retiring as a player Walsh owned a sports shop / general store in Droitwich and later ran holiday homes in Thurlestone and Kingsbridge in Devon. In June 2003, Walsh and such other notable Waterford footballers as Paddy Coad, Alfie Hale, Peter Thomas, Jim Beglin and John O'Shea, was honoured by the city council and presented with Waterford Crystal vase.Honoured by Waterford City Council He died in 2016.
The 18 km long beach from Tanjung Gemuk to Tanjung Tuan is a holiday destination for local visitors, especially those who come from Kuala Lumpur. Many Singaporeans have invested in holiday homes in and around Port Dickson. Over the years, many hotels and resorts were opened to capitalize on the tourist draw. In the 1990s, Port Dickson boomed with new hotels and resorts being planned and constructed.
The restoration work has been financially supported by the Government of the Netherlands. The renovation work conforms to guidelines set by the Archeological Department of Sri Lanka. Technical guidance was provided by the Architectural Wing of the University of Moratuwa. Very many of the old town houses have been bought up by expatriates and rich Sri Lankans and Indians and renovated as holiday homes.
The Village was born in 1956, as a summer resort, with outdoor sports and a Neorealist Film Festival film festival awarding the "Laceno d'Oro" (Golden Laceno), since moved to Avellino. Mathesons Bay or Te Kohuroa is a small beach in the Rodney district of the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is 21 kilometres north-east of Warkworth, near the small community of Leigh. Off shore there is a small island called Mathesons Bay Island which has some big rocks coming off which shelters the beach.

Portsalon () is a coastal townland in County Donegal, Ireland. It's situated on the scenic Lough Swilly and it is known for its beach, which was deemed to be the second most beautiful beach in the world by The Observer newspaper. Up until the second half of the 20th century, there was very little in the area. Now it is a tourist resort and many visitors have built holiday homes around Portsalon.
Ribčev Laz () is a settlement on Lake Bohinj in the Municipality of Bohinj in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia. Most of the settlement consists of hotels and holiday homes. The local church dedicated to John the Baptist stands just outside the settlement on the shore of Lake Bohinj. It is built in a west-east orientation and is surrounded by an old cemetery wall with two entrances.

The Hornbæk Line () is a long standard gauge single track local passenger railway line north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The section from Helsingør to Hornbæk opened in 1906, and the section from Hornbæk to Gilleleje in 1916.
Bichkov was feared by local police following an incident where he kidnapped a police officer who was hunting nearby, and held him at gunpoint. After some time Bichkov released the police officer and fled the scene. Bichkov burned down 30 "holiday homes" that were owned by wealthy Moscow residents. Although the police did not investigate, they did name him "Russia's Rambo", based on the title character from the Rambo film series.

The most important event that connects Eperia's history to local history is that it was the first habituated place in Dardisa area during the modern era, after the abandon of Metallia village in 1968. With the establishment of Eperia started, the area of Dardisa became habituated and steadily formed a settlement made up mostly of holiday homes.
The foundation stone was laid by William Wordsworth. During the 19th century, Bowness grew from a small fishing village to a town living almost entirely off tourism and holiday homes. It was the centre of the boat-building industry that provided the sailing yachts, rowing boats and steam launches used on the lake. A large number of hotels and boarding houses gave employment to the permanent population of the town.

The Tarka Trail would continue to skirt the eastern edge of the site. The planning application consultation period was expected to be completed in April 2007. By August 2007, all of the external amusement rides and constructions had been auctioned off or demolished, leaving just the main buildings and platforms intact. Construction on the Alfsee began in 1971. From 1976 a holiday park was built on the eastern shore within the parish of Rieste. On the northern edge of the island is a series of columnar basalt cliffs which have a hexagonal shape formed in a similar manner to the famous Giant's Causeway. The Harvey estate began construction in 2007, and has been the largest housing development to date within Indented Head.
Stevenson Leisure UK is a moderate multidiscipline leisure organisation that owns and manages various small organisations including cafés, public houses, hotels, and holiday homes. Until 2014 the organisation also operated a chain of grocery/mini supermarket style stores however these were closed due to a "decline in the requirement of smaller stores in rural areas as online shopping is the favoured option of modern customers", according to a statement from their management.

Abthorpe is a village and civil parish in the valley of the River Tove in South Northamptonshire, England, about west of Towcester, northwest of Silverstone and approximately midway between London and Birmingham. At the 2011 census the population (including Foscote hamlet) was recorded as 311.

However at the turn of the 20th century there were several pubs including the Cross Pipes and Dafarn Faig, this was located on the "lôn gefn" (back road) leading to Bryncir.
From 1912 to 1918 roads were completed between Belgrave and South Sassafras (Kallista) and Monbulk. Kopalino () is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Choczewo, within Wejherowo County, Pomeranian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. Louisburgh in 2005 Louisburgh in the evening light, July 2017 Louisburgh experienced an upturn in its fortunes during the economic boom in Ireland. For many years emigration and joblessness prevailed. During the boom there was high employment especially in construction due to a large a number of holiday homes being built. Many local people commute to work in nearby towns such as Westport and Castlebar, each of which have a growing industrial base.
Some employment in Szakácsi is provided by two farmers, some in forestry and recently by a company that converts empty houses into holiday homes. The Cserehát is the fruit garden of Hungary, with an abundance of apricots, peaches, plums, apples and cherries. Many people bring their fruit to the local distillery to make Palinka (sometimes more than 40% alcohol). The woods around Szakácsi are also known for the porcini, chanterelles, and trompes de la mort.
Morgan today is well known for its number of houseboat moorings and services, and a houseboat marina is currently under construction. A free road transport ferry service operates 24 hours for river crossings. Just southward (downstream) from Morgan is a riverfront development named Brenda Park, which has flourished since WWII, originally as rustic shacks, but now as prestige waterfront holiday homes. Despite these new developments, many historic buildings remain in the town.

Then, on 31 January 1962 the last twelve men were paid their final wages, and the office keys were handed over to the landowners' solicitors. There had been over 100 pupils at the school in Patterdale in the 1950s; after the mine closed the school roll fell to less than 20 children. Many of the houses have become holiday homes now.

Cullen () is a village and former royal burgh in Moray, Scotland, on the North Sea coast east of Elgin. Escalls is in the civil parish of Sennen approximately north-east of Land's End and north-east of Sennen Churchtown. To the south of the hamlet of Escalls is Escalls Green, to the north is Escalls Moor and west of the moor is Escalls Cliff and Whitesand Bay. The South West Coast Path follows the coast of Whitesand Bay crossing Escalls Cliff. Most of the houses are now holiday homes or let to visitors.
Although named after the small village of Rosneath on its eastern shore, the largest settlements are the contiguous villages of Kilcreggan and Cove at its southernmost tip. During the Victorian era it became a popular destination for wealthy Glasgow businessmen who built luxurious holiday homes along its shore. Rosneath Castle was for a time the residence of Princess Louise, Queen Victoria's daughter. As with many grand houses in the area, it has since been demolished.

The local chapel is dedicated to Saint Anthony the Hermit and was rebuilt in a modern alpine style in 1996.
Råbylille Strand - The beach Råbylille Strand (, ) is a resort on the south coast of eastern Møn, an island on the Baltic Sea in south-east Denmark. On 1 January 2007, it became part of the new Vordingborg municipality. It is to the east of Stege and 15 km south-west of Møns Klint. As a result of the growing popularity of holiday homes, many of which are available for rental, it has developed rapidly over the past 30 years.
A new market was opened by the demand for mountain lodges and holiday homes. At the same time, open-air museums and the preservation movement created a reservation for ancient building traditions. From these reservations, sod roofs have begun to reappear as an alternative to modern materials. Two Martello Towers, the first on the east coast, were built against a possible invasion by Napoleon in 1809.
Castle Hill Village Castle Hill Village in June 2012 The nearby Castle Hill Village, located just north of Thomas River on State Highway 73, has a small number of permanent residents along with a number of holiday homes (used extensively during the winter ski season) but no public facilities other than a public toilet at the village hall and a children's playground. The village was started by the then-owner of Castle Hill Station, John Reid, in 1982.
Ginals has no village centre as such but is a geographical area made up of many hamlets, individual farms and houses which are scattered throughout the rural commune. Two of the largest outlying hamlets are those of St. Ignes and Lardaillé. One typical hamlet (mas) once had a population of over 100 people living in about 20 houses. Today there are only three houses which are occupied as part-time holiday homes by three British families.

Julia Charlotte Glenys Rothman is the main antagonist in the novel Scorpia, the first and the last time the series have a female as the main antagonist. She is a board member of the criminal organisation Scorpia, and the head of Operation Invisible Sword. Rothman was born in Aberystwyth, Wales to Welsh nationalist parents, who would set fire to holiday homes owned by English families. One of the targeted homes was still inhabited and were killed in the fire.
After the Storstrøm Bridge to Zealand was opened in 1937, Strandhotellet was built in 1938, renamed later as Østersøens Perle. Los Nietos, Spain is a small fishing village with its own individual marina on the Mar Menor, which began as a very small fishing settlement and was later urbanised to allow more holiday homes by the Mar Menor. It is now a busy community with many visitors, especially in the summer, with some events at other times. Many foreigners, mainly British, live there. The Mar Menor has a 73 km coastline perimeter with numerous beaches with clear, shallow water (maximum depth 7m).

Eagle Bay is a small town near Dunsborough, in the local government area of the City of Busselton. At the 2016 census, it had a population of 76. It is known for its luxury holiday homes, with an occupancy rate on the night of the 2016 census of about 16%. On 30 May 1801, a landing party from the Baudin expedition unsuccessfully looked for water at Eagle Bay; this event is commemorated by the Baudin memorial, which was unveiled in 2001.

Owners of holiday homes will occasionally move to their second homes permanently upon retirement, this can be a threat to the culture of an area, especially in Wales where the influx of non-Welsh speakers affects the percentage of Welsh speakers in the area and reduces the use of Welsh in everyday life. Hundreds of second homes were burnt between 1979 and the mid-1990s as a part of a campaign by nationalist movement Meibion Glyndŵr to protect the indigenous language and culture.
Two hamlets, Exceat and Foxhole, are in the park, along with a small group of cottages on the cliff edge (known as the coastguard cottages) – these are mostly kept as holiday homes. Next to the Friston Forest car park, Exceat is a group of farm buildings with facilities and a café. There is also a tiny old shepherd's caravan. Vacant land was offered at just two pounds per block in an effort to stimulate investment in the area. Take up was slow; society wasn't affluent enough to allow many of the middle class to own holiday homes so far from the city. This slow growth continued in the inter-war years; the township consisted of about ten shops and a presbyterian church, built of wood on a single day in 1923. The first pub (the Rosebud Hotel) wasn't built until 1939-40.
Earimil Beach Mount Eliza was named in 1836 after Captain William Hobson’s wife, Eliza Elliott. Prior to large scale subdivision, Mount Eliza was mainly a location for holiday homes, Mount Eliza Post Office opening on 15 November 1920. This began to change in the early half of the 20th century when many old estates were subdivided. One such subdivision was Ranelagh Estate, designed by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin in 1924 in tandem with the surveyors Tuxen and Miller.
In the village, there is the forest station of Gialia, one of the biggest in Paphos area. Also in the old days they used to have a police station next door, today it is closed; there are holiday homes there now. This can be found on the coastal road to Agia Marina, on the beachside, just before you get to the turning for the centre of the village. The river supplies the villages of Gialia and Agia Marina with water for Agriculture.
Kato Arodes (Greek: Κάτω Αρόδες) is a village in the North West of Cyprus close to the Akamas peninsula. It is about 23 km from the town of Paphos. In 1975 (a year after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus), Kato Arodes was abandoned and many of the buildings fell into disrepair. Some houses have now been renovated and made into holiday homes on the provision they be returned to their rightful owners in case of a settlement in the Cyprus dispute.
Minheim is one of the biggest winegrowing centres on the Middle Moselle. The municipality's winegrowing locations (Einzellagen) belong to the winemaking appellation – Großlage – of Michelsberg. Moreover, there are many holiday homes, wine parlours and Straußwirtschaften (seasonal wine taverns run by the winemakers themselves and serving their own products). The so-called Sonneninsel has many hiking trails, inviting visitors on cycling tours. R.Y. Pickering & Co. of Wishaw supplied four passenger bogie carriages for the line in 1906. Each carriage had a central saloon with wooden tramway style seating for 64 passengers and open end platforms. Two further carriages were supplied by Pickering in 1907, the second of which had a central luggage compartment. The carriages survived the closure of the line and in 1934 were moved to Trench Point on the other side of Campbeltown Loch where they were used as holiday homes.
The Bern-Lötschberg- Simplon railway opened in 1913 and became the largest privately owned railroad in Switzerland. Beadnell is a village and civil parish in Northumberland, England. It is situated about south-east of Bamburgh, on the North Sea coast, and has a population of 528(2001), increasing to 545 at the 2011 Census. Containing the only west-facing harbour entrance on the east coast of England, Beadnell is a tourist base, the town consisting largely of holiday homes, with some small- scale fishing. Two large caravan sites neighbour the village, as well as a handful of campsites.
A campaign of protest linked to the Welsh language movement began in December 1979, which involved burning down English-owned holiday homes in Wales. Fôn wrote a song belittling the police's unsuccessful attempts to catch those responsible. In 1990, several detectives visited his home and he was arrested along with his partner, Anna, after they discovered a package hidden in a wall on his cottage's land. He was held at the police station in Dolgellau for 48 hours before being released without charge.

Although some people from central Anatolia as well as foreigners from Europe (Germans/Austrians/Dutch) have holiday homes here, Anamur itself is a quiet, isolated town with no night life, and in winter is very quiet indeed. Anamur Iskele is the beach resort of this area. A lot of holiday flats and villa's are situated near the beach or more inland. Plenty of small and some bigger hotels offer good quality as well as the restaurants near the small boulevard.
Lake Eugenia is a sought after place to have a cottage due to its proximity to Toronto, Owen Sound and Collingwood. It is estimated that there are about 400 cottages around the lake, more than the number of full-time residents in the village of Eugenia. Because of the location, real-estate prices are high and have not gone down in recent years. Many cottages are now similar to modern house as they are examples of current holiday homes and are quite large.
This was originally a Hutment, with numerous primitive chalets that were used as holiday homes in the 1900s. Under the ownership of Mr Boal, from 1961, some caravans were added to the site, and a brick toilet block constructed. The site suffered decline in the late 1900s, and in 2001 the last tenant moved out of what was an disused and overgrown site. By 2011 the area was overgrown with bushes and trees, and only remnants of the old huts remained.
Les Loges-sur-Brécey is a commune in the Manche department in Normandy in north-western France. A small, very rural commune some 5 km North of the small town of Brecey. With no centre to the commune other than the church, the 90 habitations (of which about 10% are holiday homes belonging to both French and British) are spread over a large geographical area. The majority of the population of approximately 150 are farming families, both retired and active.
Morfa Nefyn is a small village on the northern coast of the Llŷn Peninsula in Gwynedd, Wales. Morfa Nefyn lies on the crossroads of the B4417 and B4412 and has been a traditionally undiscovered destination. The village has seen a rise in popularity as house prices in nearby villages on the Llŷn Peninsula such as Abersoch and Llanbedrog have risen rapidly. Many homes are now holiday homes and a complex of holiday flats has recently been built by the entrance to the beach.
The centre is on the river and seafront, around the original harbour, jetty and beach but it stretches back from the coast and up the steep hillside in the midst of typical Welsh coastal scenery of steep green hills and sheep farms. Tavertet is a small town located above some cliffs, 900m above sea level, in the area known as Collsacabra, north of the Guilleries, in the comarca of Osona in Catalonia. Below the cliffs is Pantà de Sau, a reservoir that dammed the waters of the river Ter in the 1960s. Tavertet is nowadays a tourist- oriented town with many holiday homes, where Raimon Panikkar lived. Tavertet is linked by road BV5207 to the town of L'Esquirol, also known as Santa Maria de Corcó.
In the 19th century, Tonfano was the most populous settlement of the four localities of Marina di Pietrasanta. The first inhabitants were fishermen, who settled near the mouth of the river. Later on, also those who had already owned land in the area since the 18th century built villas and holiday homes, where they went during the summer months to enjoy the benefits of sea bathing: the fashion of the period. After the First World War, Tonfano became a tourist seaside resort.

Kamińsko is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Murowana Goślina, within Poznań County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. It lies approximately south-east of Murowana Goślina and north-east of the regional capital Poznań. It lies within the Puszcza Zielonka forest and landscape park. It is close to two lakes, Jezioro Kamińsko ("Kamińsko lake") and Jezioro Miejskie ("town lake"), both of which have popular bathing beaches, and there are a large number of summer holiday homes in the vicinity.
North Queensferry has three hotels, bed and breakfast establishments and holiday homes to let. Near the station is the village primary school (a large pink sandstone category B listed Art Nouveau building dating from 1912 to 1914), a small general store and a community centre (all in Brock Street). The church, on Ferryhills Road, is twinned with Hohoe in Ghana. North Queensferry lies on the Fife Coastal Path, and was the southern terminus for the route until it was extended west to Kincardine in 2011 .
Around the mid-1980s, the people from large cities around Turkey such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir came to Didim and built summer houses and holiday homes. When Turkey's economy started to decline, these people found it hard to survive in the big cities and many of the owners, the majority of whom were retired, decided to relocate to Didim permanently. Didim is a rapidly growing town, visited by large numbers of Turkish and European tourists every year, with its own marina and beach festival.
In 1932, the summit of Bạch Mã was selected by the French engineer Girard to become a hill station for the colonial administration of Hue. In the following years, a village including 139 villas and hotels was created. To accommodate holidaymakers and to avoid commuting on the steep, road to the next major town, there was a post office, a market, and a hospital. By 1937 the number of holiday homes had reached 139 and it became known as the "Dalat of central Vietnam".
A peak population was reached in the late 19th century and from there progressively reduced due to migration and war. It was almost totally de-populated in 1995 during the war that saw the breakup of the former Yugoslavia when the high majority of the population left for Serbia. A handful of old people remained in the village unable or unwilling to make the long trek. A few new people subsequently established holiday homes over the last 10 years and a few returned from Serbia.

American billionaire and future United States President Donald Trump purchased a large part of the Menie estate near the village of Balmedie in 2006. He proposed to build a golf course called Trump International Golf Links, Scotland, with a hotel, holiday homes and a residential village.
St Andrews Beach is located on the Bass Strait side of the southern Mornington Peninsula and it is south of Rye. It was first subdivided in the 1959 and the subdivision was originally marketed as "Capri Beach". In the 1962 a golf course (since closed) was constructed and the subdivision was remarketed as St. Andrews by the Sea. Originally the homes that were built were small holiday homes but later in the 20th century more substantial homes began to be built as its location became more appreciated.
A video of Jack's Blowhole Jack's Bay is a small settlement in The Catlins, an area on the southeastern corner of the South Island of New Zealand. It is located six kilometres southwest of Owaka, close to the mouth of the Catlins River. A popular holiday spot with a seasonal population, there are numerous cribs (holiday homes) at the settlement. Jack's Bay is noted for a large blowhole, known as Jack's Blowhole, a 55-metre-deep blowhole that formed when part of a sea cavern's roof collapsed.
The hotel dates back to the time when Hua Hin itself was evolving into Thailand's first beach resort. The beauty of Hua Hin was noted by the engineers surveying the southern railway route in 1909. Land was set aside for a station, and when the first section of the line opened in 1911 Hua Hin became a destination where wealthy Bangkok residents built their holiday homes. The southern line to Malaysia was completed in 1921, making it possible to travel between Bangkok, Malaysia, and Singapore by train.

At the time a beach, Österskärs Havsbad (more popularly known as Solbrännan) was built and Österskärs steam boat jetty was completed in 1912. During the 1920s and 30s, more and more holiday homes were built and became a summer residence for many Stockholmers. The big expansion of full-time residents took off in the 1970s and now more or less the entire peninsula is built on. Österskär has relatively high real estate prices compared to rest of Sweden and is one of northern Stockholm's most exclusive suburbs.

It is east of Halesworth and north-east of the county town of Ipswich. Coastal erosion and the shifting of the mouth of the River Blyth meant that the neighbouring town of Dunwich, to the south, was lost as a port in the last years of the 13th century. Following a brief period of rivalry and dispute with Dunwich, Walberswick became a major trading port from the 13th century until World War I. Almost half of the properties in the village are holiday homes.
Oldshoremore is a scattered crofting hamlet in the Eddrachillis parish of Sutherland, Scotland. It incorporates around twenty houses, though several of these are holiday homes. View of Oldshoremore from the slopes of Eilean na h-Aiteig Once owned by the Duke of Sutherland, Oldshoremore and the surrounding area are now part of the Sandwood Estate, a nature reserve owned by the John Muir Trust. Directly west lies Oldshoremore Bay, a sandy beach with a large headland at its northern end known as Eilean na h-Aiteig.
At the border with Skinnskattebergs, close to the railway line, are the remains of a camp (Krampenlägret) built to house Red Army internees during the World War II. At Hedströmmen there are, counting from the north, Tomasbo, Västanhed, Karmansbo, Bernshammar and Jönsarbo. The Hed Church is located on a rise adjacent to county road 250. Close by is the village of Bubbarsbo, now mostly holiday homes on the banks of Lillsvan lake. To the north is Långsvan lake, on the western strand of which is Bysala village.
The lake gives its name to the village of Loch Gowna, on the north- eastern shore of the lake in County Cavan. The original name of the village was Scrabby (Screabach in Irish), and gave its name to the townland and parish in which it is located. However, in 1950, after a plebiscite of the villagers, the name was officially changed to Loch Gowna. The village serves as a service centre for tourism, with hotel accommodation and sizeable numbers of holiday homes in the area.
As a result of improved infrastructure and increased developer interest, Terrigal has become substantially more urban since the 1970s, when there was only one market, one medical centre and several orchards in the area. Terrigal's growth as a tourist destination and investment opportunity for wealthy individuals, such as holiday homes and small businesses, has had both positive and negative effects on the area. Terrigal, as a popular beach-destination, is generally relatively mild to warm all year round, although can become somewhat cool during the winter months.

Peyia (also spelt Pegeia; ) is a town in the Paphos District of Cyprus. Pegeia is situated mainly on the steep slopes of the coastal hills inland from Coral Bay, at the southern end of the Akamas Peninsula, and it lies 14 km northwest of Paphos. It has a large population of British immigrants and a growing number of holiday homes and apartments. In the town centre can be found the town hall, a church, a police station and several small shops, restaurants and banks.
Vejers is a small Danish holiday resort with only 27 inhabitants, but a multitude of holiday homes. Vejers is situated in the former Ribe Amt, and is part of the Syddanmark region as of 2007, roughly 30 km northern of the town of Esbjerg and between the villages of Blåvand and Grærup on the west coast of Jutland. The nearest town is Varde at a distance of about 20 km. The village can be divided into the main area Vejers and the bigger area of Vejers Beach.

The Mornington Peninsula has a long history of being a favourite holiday destination for residents of Melbourne with 24,000 holiday homes in the area. Mornington Peninsula tourism generates 10 per cent of local employment opportunities and is an important component of the economy. Popular tourism times are long weekends such as Cup Weekend and Queens Birthday, the week involving Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years, with the months of December and January being the peak tourist period.

The development of purpose built "resorts" by trade unions increased substantially after World War II. Due to the critical shortage of accommodation after the war, many holiday homes were let for permanent rental and demand put such places was out of the reach of the average worker. Changes to labour legislation at this time also contributed.
Atravesada street Granada has long been a center of commerce, including timber, gold and silver. Granada's economy continues to grow as it is becoming a hub for tourism. Though Granada remains Nicaragua's sixth largest city, it is widely known for preserving some of the finest colonial-era architecture in the country. A real estate boom had been underway for several years, with many European and Americans purchasing and renovating the area's homes for retirement or holiday homes and several foreign realtors establishing offices, but that boom slowed in 2007.
The castle was designated a category A listed building in 1971, its listing describing it as "a castle-style mansion by Robert Adam, circa 1790". The interiors were in good condition in the late 1960s, but photographs published in early 2017 confirmed that the interiors were in total ruin; entry into the building was prohibited for safety reasons. Outline planning permission was granted in 1990 for an ambitious redevelopment, with two golf courses, a hotel, conference centre, country club, and hundreds of holiday homes. No progress was made.
American billionaire Donald Trump purchased a large part of the Menie estate near the village of Balmedie in 2006. He proposed to build a golf course, with a hotel, holiday homes and a residential village. He expressed his concerns about the wind farm in April 2006 stating that "I want to see the ocean, I do not want to see windmills." In 2006 RSPB Scotland expressed concern about the effect both the wind farm and Donald Trump's golf course would have on the wildlife on the Aberdeenshire coast.
Towns in the south include the three towns Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston as well as the affluent town of Kilwinning. Towards the south of the area is Irvine which is also the main settlement and largest town in the area. The inland towns of Dalry, Kilbirnie and Beith were steel towns with large steel mills however these are long gone. Tourism is the main industry on Arran and Cumbrae; however, the number of holiday homes on the latter has begun to squeeze locals out of the housing market.
Refrancore (Piedmontese: Ël Francó or Arfrancor) is a village and comune in the northwestern Italian province of Asti in the Piedmont region, located some east of Asti in the Basso Monferrato. The territory of the comune extends over an area of and is largely devoted to agriculture, in particular to vineyards growing the Grignolino and Barbera wine grapes. Hornbæk () is a seaside resort town on the north coast of the Danish island of Sjælland, facing the Øresund which separates Denmark from Sweden. It is part of Helsingør Municipality and is located 12 km north-west of Helsingør, and is mainly known for its fashionable holiday homes and broad sandy beaches. The settlement is situated half- way between the cities of Dunedin and Invercargill, on the Pacific coast close to the mouth of the Tahakopa River. There is a permanent population of around 40 people but with most of the houses in the town being holiday homes (locally known as "cribs") the population rises dramatically during the holiday seasons, particularly around New Year's Day and Easter. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "tōwai tree flat" for .
The château de Guernon-Ranville is located in Le Bas de Ranville in the village of Ranville, in the Calvados region Calvados of Lower Normandy in France. This private 18th century domain carries the name of the family who were for a long period of time the proprietors of the château. The Château de Guernon-Ranville was once the home of a 19th-century minister, later the holiday resort of art patrons at the beginning of the 20th century and, eventually a field hospital during the allied landings in Normandy in 1944. The château now offers upscale self-catering holiday homes.
Mr C.H. Cave won the competition with "Moana", which is a Māori-language word meaning "ocean". The land was divided into blocks of land suitable for holiday homes and wide streets were planned and laid out, but due to the Great Depression in 1929 development of the area was slow. In the 1950s Moana experienced renewed interest from tourism as the residents of Adelaide enjoyed the freedom and mobility of car ownership - Moana was a pleasant 40 minute drive from Adelaide. The population soars in June, July, and August - but all year round, there are many more people staying here than the official number of inhabitants suggests. Ostrau on the Ostrauer Scheibe rises 130 m above the Elbe and lies at a height of 245 m ü. NN. The ice age loess-loam on the plateau of the Ostrauer Scheibe enabled the establishment in former times of a German village for seven farmsteads. Ostrau has been directly linked to the town of Bad Schandau since 1904 with an electric passenger lift that was built at the initiative of the hotelier, Rudolf Sendig, who also financed it. The decline in the use of the Welsh language in Llŷn has been attributed to a rise in property prices. Local Welsh speakers are increasingly unable to afford housing in the area as the rise in house prices has outpaced average earnings in Wales. On the other hand, there has been an influx of non-Welsh speakers purchasing properties for retirement or holiday homes. The issue of locals being priced out of the local housing market is common to many rural communities throughout Britain, but in Wales the added dimension of language further complicates the issue, as many new residents do not learn the Welsh language.
This is by far not enough to keep the work of the umbrella organisations on a sufficiently high level. During the last few years especially Solidarnosc and OPZZ were forced to cut down on costs by closing offices and reducing staff. OPZZ seems to be in a better material situation than Solidarnosc, as it took over the larger part of the properties of trade unions dating from before 1989 (urban office properties, sanatoriums and holiday homes) and thus for years functioned on the basis of earnings from renting and leasing them. Some affiliated unions of OPZZ and Forum have similar financial sources as they have their own properties.

The hamlet of Råbylille, 2 km north of Råbylille Strand, consists of a few thatched cottages, some dating back to the 17th century. A few similar cottages as well as some larger farmhouses were built closer to the coast when Råbylille Strand was simply just the beach for Råbylille. After the end of World War II, plots of land became available for holiday homes or summer houses as they are known in Denmark. These proved increasingly popular, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s, with the result that today there is a quite network of unsurfaced roads, each flanked by small or medium-sized wooden chalets and their gardens.
Chancellor set up his own firm in the distant beachside suburb of Frankston in 1952, and Patrick joined him formally in the middle of 1954, establishing the practice of Chancellor and Patrick. In 1958, they established a second office in South Yarra, continued to prosper, and built up a practice that eventually employed 30 staff. Away from the coast road, Kissonerga village has a main street where there are restaurants, several mini-markets, two banks, two coffee shops (one of which also operates as a sub post office), a bookshop, florist, chemist and hairdressers. There is also an internet café near the playground. Kissonerga has a collection of holiday homes named Juliepapas Gardens which is in the suburbs and is signposted off the coastal road. At the far end of the main street, opposite the school, which caters for children from nursery age to 11 years old, there is a communal area which is mainly used as a playground.

A row of old farm workers cottages stands on the side of the road with back walls facing the sea. Carleton Terrace lies to the south of the village centre and dates from around 1933 when the Hamilton Estates made land available for what were then holiday homes, mostly built from wood at first, later on many were rebuilt in stone. The village has no church of its own however, as stated, it is part of the Colmonell Parish.

The manor house has an adjoining cluster of privately owned homes and holiday homes, a caravan site and a campsite. The manor house itself is Grade II listed and made of stone, cob and thatch construction, with origins dating back to the 17th century. The first recorded written reference to Putsborough is from 1313; however there is mention in the Doomsday book to a sister of Ordulf (a Saxon lord who held the manor of Georgeham and Croyde, amongst others in Devon) who tried to found her own separate manor – possibly Putsborough. Wellington East (also historically known as East Wellington or part of Wellington) is a locality in the Murray Mallee on the east (left bank) of the Murray River in South Australia where the river opens into Lake Alexandrina, the largest of the lakes at the end of the Murray-Darling system. Wellington East is the eastern end of the Wellington Ferry, the furthest downstream crossing of the Murray River on Route B45. It is mostly low-lying land and development is predominantly shacks and holiday homes associated with the river and lagoons. The eastern boundary is the Princes Highway between Tailem Bend and Meningie.

From its inception, the Otago Harbour Board had vested in it for harbour purposes,land on the Northern side of the Otago Harbour entrance. This included a quarry for rock to build the mole that protected the entrance; the village, originally housing workers on the mole, and later leased out for holiday homes; a large area of salt marsh; and adjacent dry-land leased out for rough grazing. After the Comalco Aluminium Smelter was opened at Bluff's Tiwai Point in 1971, Otago interests sought a similar project in 1974 on the OHB land at Aramoana. It was not well founded, and was withdrawn in the face of modest opposition.
The permanent population of Heir Island is only 25–30, but during summer months when the holiday homes are occupied the population increases to around 150. Although the small island does not have a pub, it has B&Bs;, holiday rentals, an art gallery, a sailing school and outdoor activities camp, a holistic therapy centre, one permanent restaurant and one pop-up restaurant which is located in the Sailing School. Fresh bread is also made at the Firehouse Bakery where baking courses are also held. The island is also home to a handful of artists, and their work is show in the galleries on the island.
Matarangi Beach Matarangi is a beach settlement on the Coromandel Peninsula of New Zealand, with around 390 permanent residents in 2018 which increases to over 7000 holidaymakers during the summer period of late December to February. It was developed in the 1980s as a purpose built resort town and occupies a white sand peninsula between the Whangapoua Harbour and historic Mercury Bay. It is half an hour from the towns of Coromandel to the west and Whitianga to the south east. Matarangi has a mix of older, smaller holiday houses (known in New Zealand as baches), while waterfront sections have luxury holiday homes and prestige lifestyles.

During the early part of the 19th century, Kilkee was just a small fishing village but in the 1820s when a paddle steamer service from Limerick to Kilrush was launched, it began to attract visitors. It has been a resort since then and was featured on the front page of The Illustrated London News as the premier bathing spot in what was then the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Gradually the town grew as the demand for holiday homes by the sea increased, resulting in a building boom in the 1830s.

Cheviot Beach, the site of Holt's disappearance Holt loved the ocean, particularly spearfishing, and had holiday homes at Portsea, Victoria, and Bingil Bay, Queensland.Frame (2005), p. 272. On 17 December 1967, while Holt was spending the weekend at Portsea, he and four companions decided to drive to Point Nepean to watch sailor Alec Rose pass through The Rip on his solo circumnavigation attempt. On their way back to Portsea, Holt convinced the group to stop at remote Cheviot Beach for a swim before lunch – he had spearfished there on many previous occasions, and claimed to "know this beach like the back of my hand".
Post his World War I duties, in 1919 Lt Cdr Charles Evans bought the defunct village smithy. Having fallen in love with the place, in 1922 he bought the entire village, including over of surrounding land on both sides of the river. After World War II the family placed the estate into a private limited company, Evans Estates (1956) Limited, which today owns most of the village (consisting of 40 homes, a pub and a shop), the harbour, Bantham beach and an 18-hole cliff-top golf course. The family have always tightly managed the village, offering manageable rents, and neither renting out property seasonally nor allowing second or holiday homes.

Gymea Bay Road originally led all the way to the shore of Gymea Bay where a wharf and boat shed developed and mail and supplies were taken by boat to houses along the Port Hacking River. With the operation of the Sutherland to Cronulla tramway from 1911 to 1931 and the Sutherland to Cronulla railway with Gymea railway station opening in 1939, Gymea Bay developed from a rural area into a recreation and holiday area with fishing shacks and holiday homes. Boats could be hired at the boatshed. By the 1920s a coach depot was built on what is now the reserve and playground at the intersection of Gymea Bay Road and Sylvania Road South (now Casuarina Road).
It started life as either Bishopstone Station (the Victorian OS map of 1874 shows it as this together with a short branch line to the mills) or Tide Mills Halt, but became Bishopstone Beach Halt in 1939 before its closure in 1942. This is different from today's Bishopstone railway station at . ATD Fourth World is involved in projects to protect the right of parents to raise their own children, setting up for example a Live-In Family Development Programme in Noisy-le-Grand. Family holiday homes have also been created – in Frimhurst for example, in the United Kingdom – which are places where families living in chronic poverty can go in order to take a break from their daily struggles. ATD Fourth World also organises projects aimed at improving disadvantaged communities' access to decent work and social well-being, such as in Madagascar for example or in the United States, with the Learning Co-op, which promotes the free exchange of knowledge and skills within isolated communities.

Sommarhus (in or lantställe), in Norwegian hytte, is the term used in the Scandinavian countries to describe the popular holiday homes or summer cottages which are often located near the sea but can also be in attractive areas of the countryside. Most of them are timber constructions, often suitable for year-round use.

Marshall met with Chiang Kai-shek to discuss the role of post-World War II China. The original village management board became a municipality and today falls under the large area council of Metsimaholo. It was formerly a tiny crofting and fishing settlement of just 12 crofts surrounding the natural harbour of Loch Beag but crofting has now ceased and holiday homes have taken over. The earliest clearly mapped reference is on Murdoch MacKenzie's first Admiralty chart surveyed in 1748. In 1851 J.M. MacKenzie, the Chamberlain to the estate owner Sir James Matheson, proposed that all the tenants of the village were to be evicted and sent to North America on the emigrant ship the SS Marquis of Stafford. This plan was not fully carried through however but it still had a great effect on the village leaving it with a population of just three families.
Properties within the resort are usually either second/holiday homes or lived in year-round by retirees. In 1997 a links golf course was opened on the site designed by Cabell B. Robinson, an American golf course architect. This championship course is 6,625 metres long and a par 73 and is considered by many golfers to one of the more challenging courses in Portugal being both a links course when next to the beach, but also travels through wooded areas and is overlooked by houses. Praia d'El Rey, which recently won a travel award, is also a beach resort and residents and visitors are able to gain access to the area's beach.

West Looe viewed across the river from East Looe Looe remains a fishing town, and retained several fish dealers operating from the East Looe quayside until the advent of EU regulations. With its fleet of small fishing boats returning their catches to port daily, Looe has a reputation for procuring excellent fresh fish. The town is also a centre for shark fishing, and is home to the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain. During the Second World War, German Naval Headquarters were situated on the northern side of the town. After D-Day, as Allied forces moved northwards, the town was shelled from Cap Gris Nez, and was re-taken by the Canadian 1st Army on 22 September 1944. The seaside development was started during the Second Empire, resulting in a remarkable architectural ensemble of houses and buildings typical of the Belle Époque, which are still very well maintained to this day. Originally the secondary residence of wealthy families of Lille and Paris, Wimereux has become a residential suburb of Boulogne and also attracts Britons and Belgians who come to buy holiday homes or settle permanently.
Originally a fishing village, in the late 19th and into the 20th century, tourism became important to the town, which has 5 beaches within a 2-mile radius. The area saw an increase in 'holiday homes' in the mid-20th century, accommodating families from Cork city who stayed locally in the summer months \- some of these temporary cabins were initially built using very large packing crates from the Ford factory in Cork. Tourism attractions in the town included Piper's funfair (known as "the merries"), a nightclub called The Majorca (now closed), a cinema (also since closed), and the Cockleshell (now an arcade called La Scala). Today Crosshaven is becoming a commuter town for Ringaskiddy and Cork city.

In the early 20th century, beach huts were regarded as "holiday homes for the toiling classes", but in the 1930s their image revived, George V and Queen Mary spent the day at a beach hut in Sussex, and other owners have included the Spencer family and Laurence Olivier. During World War II all UK beaches were closed, the reopening in the late 1940s and 1950s led to resurgence of the British beach holiday and the heyday of the Beach Hut. While many beach huts were former fishermen's huts, boatsheds or converted bathing machines, some of the earliest purpose built beach huts in the UK were erected at Bournemouth, either side of Bournemouth Pier in 1909.
The park is divided into several functional zones: sacred zone, regulated recreation zone, stationary recreation zone, and managed zone. Cottage on the road to Skerray harbour The Skerray economy, historically based on crofting and fishing, saw dramatic changes in its population, which fell from 500 in 1926 to around 100 by the 1980s. In the late 19th century, the North Sea Pilot noted that, "At Skerray, Isle Roan, and Torrisdale, 25 boats and 120 men and boys are employed in the fisheries." Skerray has been a crofting community, though with the decline of crofting in this area, dwellings are expected to be converted to holiday homes. A five-year Scottish National Heritage research project that began in 1994 gave some of Skerry's crofters the opportunity to participate in an agricultural and environmental management study in exchange for annual payments.

The charity is based in a Grade 2 listed building at 1 Dean Trench Street, Westminster, which address was for a while after WW1 the home of Winston Churchill.
Plentzia is a resort town with a large beach beside the Plentzia River estuary, in the round, shell-shaped Bay of Plentzia, shared with neighbouring Gorliz and Barrika. The beach is very popular as it is clean and the sea is calm due to the shelter of the bay and the town has many amenities for visitors. Plentzia and its neighbouring municipalities are popular locations for better-off families from Bilbao to buy weekend–holiday homes and during the summer months the town's beach and bars and restaurants become much busier thanks to these residents and other visitors from Bilbao. As in most Basque towns, Plentzia has a number of restaurants and bars ranging from small bars offering pintxos to restaurants with formal dining.
Houses are often very expensive in tourist villages as there is demand for them as second homes or holiday homes by holiday cottage firms or well-off people who live elsewhere, or who move to a local home from which they commute to work, making them unaffordable for local people. It has been considered unfair that the same licence fee applies to a single private dwelling as to a large commercial address, such as a hotel or a privately owned business park. In 2003, there was negative comment after a crackdown on unlicensed television sets at holiday homes, and proposals for a reduced-rate licence for seldom-occupied premises. RTÉ journalists largely support the existence of the licence, and lobby for greater increases in the fee, as being a revenue stream independent of the government and thus guaranteeing freedom from political influence and associated editorial bias. Some students relocated to other centres – by 5 March, a total of 4879 Christchurch students had enrolled in other schools across New Zealand. Wanaka Primary School alone had received 115 new enrolments as Christchurch families moved to their holiday homes in the town. Due to the extensive damage of a number of secondary schools, many were forced to share with others, allowing one school to use the ground in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Due to the financial difficulties, Takaro sought to sell 90% of the shares to the Japanese company Mitsubishi, which planned to develop a golf course and up to 136 holiday homes. However, at the time, under the Reserve Bank Act [1964] for such a foreign investor to be able to buy shares in a New Zealand company, it required the consent of the Minister of Finance. Bill Rowling, the finance minister at the time, refused to consent to the investment on the basis that he wanted the business to revert to a New Zealand owner. Rush then requested Rowling to reconsider this decision on the basis that a refusal would cause severe financial hardship, but resulted in the same decision.
Tourism in Sahara In the second half of the 1980s and the early 1990s, between 1 and 1.5 million Europeans visited Morocco. Most of these visitors were French or Spanish, with about 100,000 each from Britain, Germany, and the Netherlands. Tourists mostly visited large beach resorts along the Atlantic coast, particularly Agadir. About 20,000 people from Saudi Arabia visited, some of whom bought holiday homes. Receipts from tourism fell by 16.5% in 1990, the year the Gulf War began. In 1994, Algeria closed its border with Morocco after the Marrakech attack, which caused the number of Algerian visitors to fall considerably; there were 70,000 visitors in 1994 and 13,000 in 1995, compared to 1.66 million in 1992 and 1.28 million in 1993.
The village was a small fishing hamlet originating in the late 19th century, with folk tales of it being a route for smugglers into East Anglia. However in 1910, Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie, a Scottish barrister who had made his money building railways around the world, increased the family's local estates to cover the entire area from north of Aldeburgh to past Sizewell, up the coast and inland to Aldringham and Leiston. Most of this land was used for farming, but Ogilvie developed Thorpeness into a private fantasy holiday village, to which he invited his friends' and colleagues' families during the summer months. A country club with tennis courts, a swimming pool, a golf course and clubhouse, and many holiday homes, were built in Jacobean and Tudor Revival styles.
The No Land Tax Campaign was a minor Australian political party formed prior to the 2015 New South Wales state election. It was formed in opposition to the levying of land tax, which in New South Wales applies to investment properties and holiday homes. The party achieved 1.90% of Legislative Council and 2.02% of Legislative Assembly votes at the election, but its failure to honour a promise to 3,600 workers to pay them $30 an hour ultimately led to legal trouble for the party. The party letterboxed homes in some parts of New South Wales with a flyer bearing the state's coat of arms, and advertising a website "electionwork.com.au". The website offered $30 an hour to "reliable, enthusiastic people" to hand out flyers and approach voters — bonuses were offered if candidates achieved certain vote levels.

126 After the arrival of passenger trains in 1876, the village around the port of Newquay started to grow quickly. Several major hotels were built around the end of the 19th century, the first being the Great Western Hotel which opened in 1879 in Station Road, now Cliff Road. Other early hotels included the Victoria in East Street, the Atlantic and the Headland, while many smaller hotels were created around this period by converting large houses, originally built by wealthy visitors as holiday homes, particularly along Narrowcliff. Huer's hut, Newquay Until the end of the 19th century, the port was famous for pilchards and there is a "Huer's Hut" above the harbour from which a huer would cry "Hevva!" to call out the fishing fleet when pilchard shoals were spotted.
In 1988, Oral Roberts and his son Richard were sued for $15 million in federal court by patients at City of Faith Medical Center, claiming the two were frauds who did not visit or heal patients in the hospital. His organizations were also affected by scandals involving other televangelists and the City of Faith hospital was forced to close in 1989 after losing money. Roberts was forced to respond with the sale of his holiday homes in Palm Springs and Beverly Hills as well as three of his Mercedes cars. Oral Roberts' son Richard Roberts resigned from the presidency of ORU on November 23, 2007 after being named as a defendant in a lawsuit alleging improper use of university funds for political and personal purposes, and improper use of university resources.
He purchased land at the more easterly section of Noosaville, known as Munna Point, where he developed a holiday complex. Additionally, he bought other individual allotments in the Noosaville area where he constructed holiday houses and flats. Furthermore, movement across the country was further restricted, by banning "any movement towards a residence different from the main one", including holiday homes, during weekends and holidays. While on the following day, Conte announced further restrictions within the nationwide lockdown, by halting all non-essential production, industries and businesses in Italy, following the rise in the number of new cases and deaths in the previous days. On 24 March, a new decree imposed higher fines for the violation of the restrictive measures, and a regulation of the relationship between government and Parliament during the emergency. It included also the possibility of reducing or suspending public and private transport, and gave the regional governments power to impose additional restrictive regulations in their Regions for a maximum of seven days before being confirmed by national decree.

The minefield was cleared by the 11th Coy Bomb Disposal under Major W.M. Hewitt of the Royal Engineers. During construction of the Menie golf course, the rusting harmless fragments of a landmine were found. In 2006 American investor (and future U.S. President) Donald Trump purchased a large part of the estate and proposed to build an extensive development, including two 18-hole golf courses, a 450-room hotel, conference centre and spa, 36 golf villas, 950 holiday homes, accommodation for 400 staff and residential developments comprising 500 houses. Although this would substantially damage habitat at a Site of Special Scientific Interest, according to analysis by Scottish Natural Heritage,The Press and Journal, Aberdeen, Scotland, August 6, 2007, page 3 planning officials from Aberdeenshire Council recommended approval of the development.
Whilst the Rockhampton to Emu Park line was predominantly a recreational line, within twenty years of its proclamation, Emu Park, with only a small local population and dependent on Rockhampton for support and assistance in almost every aspect of its development, had a railway line, new school, boarding houses and hotels to cater for visitors as well as other service facilities. Most significant however, were the number of private holiday homes being established in the town Emu Park was made even more accessible when, in late 1899, the Rockhampton Junction Railway was completed, connecting Rockhampton railway station to North Rockhampton railway stations. As a result, people further afield, including Mount Morgan residents, could enjoy a break at the beach. From the outset, two trains ran each way daily including Sundays and three on Saturdays.
On 7 June 1885, Archduke Karl Ludwig of Austria, younger brother of Emperor Franz Joseph, visited the See-Villa and talked about it in highest tones; thus, increasing the popularity of the hotel and of Millstatt in general. During the Fin de siècle era of the 1880s and 90s numerous inns and hotels opened, while nobles and rich citizens had lavish holiday homes erected on the lakeside. The town's increasing economic dependence on tourism became obvious in the first recession during World War I, later Millstatt was badly hurt by the Great Depression of the late 1920s. The local authorities tried to encounter the narrow circumstances by obtaining spa town status in 1921, laying out a promenade and spa gardens, and the opening of the public lido with its prominent diving tower in 1931.

Under the terms of the 1898 Second Convention of Peking, the New Territories and 200 smaller islands including Cheung Chau were leased to the United Kingdom for 99 years. At that time, Cheung Chau was mainly a fishing village; it had more residents living on junks than on land. Cheung Chau had already been settled by people from other places in Southern China; for example, Hoklo, they are mainly fishing people; Hakka people; Chiu Chau; and Yue Ca. The island slowly evolved into a commercial hub with merchants selling supplies to the local fishing people, boat repair and fishing gear as well as the place to do business for fishing people and small farmers of other nearby islands like Lantau Island. From 2000, a spate of suicide cases (most of them by "burning charcoal") took place inside rental holiday homes on the island.
Victory Leisure Homes Ltd is a holiday home and lodge manufacturer established by J.R. Rix & Sons in April 2009, after the demise of Cosalt Holiday Homes in the previous year. Cosalt had occupied land adjacent to Rix Road Industrial Estate, a 12-acre site owned by Rix on Stoneferry in the east of Hull; when it ceased trading Rix decided to buy the factory, land and plant to create its own caravan and lodge manufacturing facility and increase the size of its land holding in the area to 20 acres. Three years after being founded the business outgrew its initial base and moved to a modern manufacturing plant in Gilberdyke, East Riding of Yorkshire, around 20 miles west of Hull city centre, the former home of modular buildings maker Britspace, which went into administration in 2011.
Famous pacifist World War I memorial in Gentioux As a traditionally rural and lightly populated area, with ancient and typical art de vivre, original stone architecture, no major urban center and many heritage site such as castles, abbeys and Celtic stone monuments: the Creuse department has become a Green tourism destination since the late 1990s. Creuse enjoyed a temperate climate with mild springs and autumns, rather cold and snowy but sunny winters, and relatively warm and sunny summers, but not as hot as in the southern parts of France. Thanks to its preserved forested landscape, little pollution and wonderful stone buildings, many foreigners (notably British and Dutch, but also German and Belgian) have sought to buy holiday homes in Creuse. The major tourist attractions are the tapestry museum in Aubusson and the many castles, notably those of Villemonteix, Boussac, and Banizette.
A view of Ardrossan The towns of Skelmorlie, Largs, Fairlie and West Kilbride in the north are affluent commuter towns, while Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Irvine, and Stevenston in the south are rather more industrial, However, regeneration is taking place at Ardrossan Harbour and there has been a rapid increase in new build housing in recent years. Inland, the seat takes in the Garnock valley towns of Dalry, Beith and Kilbirnie, once a centre of steel and textile production long since gone. Tourism is the main industry on Arran and Cumbrae, however the number of holiday homes on the latter has begun to squeeze locals out of the housing market. The seat has two nuclear power stations, Hunterston A nuclear power station (currently being decommissioned) and Hunterston B nuclear power station, as well as a windfarm at Ardrossan.
While he "did not learn the Welsh language until he was 30 and wrote all his poems in English",Los Angeles Times, "Obituary", September 27, 2000 he wanted the Welsh language to be made the first language of Wales, and the official policy of bilingualism abolished. He wrote his autobiography in Welsh, but said he lacked the necessary grasp of the language to employ it in his poems. Although an Anglican priest, he was a fervent nationalist and advocated non-violent action against English owners of holiday homes in Wales. As an admirer of Saunders Lewis, Thomas defended his need to use English: "Since there is in Wales a mother tongue that continues to flourish, a proper Welshman can only look on English as a means of rekindling interest in the Welsh language, and of leading people back to the mother tongue."R.

It was the only part of the Trent close enough to Southwell that was fordable at the time and was far enough away from the Scots garrisoned at Kelham. Perhaps more importantly it was the site of the baptism of the Saxon court of King Edwin in 627AD. King Edwin was king of all England with the exception of Kent and wished to marry Ethelburgh, the daughter of Ethelbert king of Kent.
Following the arrival of the railway into Cromer in 1877 (Cromer High station) and 1887 (Cromer Beach station), wealthy London lawyer, Benjamin Bond CabblePretty Villas & Capacious Hotels: By Cromer Preservation Society Guides No:3 ;Edited by F.J Weatherhead: Published:2006 of Cromer Hall proposed that land on the western outskirts of the town, be used to develop the town and attract wealthy holiday makers from the south east to Cromer. He proposed that the land, which he had acquired be sold off in lots and used to develop residences, hotels and holiday homes for these expected wealthy visitors. The Eversley hotel was part of this scheme and was constructed between 1902 and 1903 and was built for Misses Burton who instructed Norwich architect Augustus F Scott to design their new hotel. Scott was also the town surveyor and had been involved in overseeing the new western development scheme since 1887.
By this time, farming had declined significantly with limited livestock rearing as the main component of local agriculture. Local rural industry had grown to some extent with fish farming in Mulroy Bay and in Lough Swilly as the main local source of employment, albeit for a time in the late 20th century and early 21st century, construction was arguably a major source of local income reflecting the boom in the provision of holiday homes and a general upgrading of the local housing stock and infrastructure both in Fanad and in other areas of Donegal. A notable addition to the local infrastructure was the construction of a major road bridge at the northern end of Mulroy Bay in 2009, allowing for easy access from Fanad westwards to Carrigart, Downings and other towns and villages along the northern coast. Tourism also provided some limited seasonal employment.
Simounet studied architecture in Paris and then returned to his native Algeria where he opened an office in 1952. His first major work, the emergency cité de transit Djenan el-Hassan (1956-8), reflected his concern with the eradication of slum housing; its cellular construction, with individual vaulted roofs, echoed local vernacular architectural forms. In 1958 he was appointed to plan the new city of Thamugadi, which borders the famous Roman ruins of Timgad. After the War of Independence, Simounet moved to Paris (1963), but many of his works continued to address the problems of design for warm climates through the suitable expression of materials, massing and openings; examples include the student housing (1962–70) for the University of Tananarive, Madagascar, and a series of holiday homes in Corsica. Simounet became one of the most prolific museum builders in France in the 1970s and 1980s.
Railway Institute facilities were also sold off, and the halls in Devonport and Wynyard were the last to be sold; with Devonport selling just prior to the sale of AN Tasrail to the private consortium ATN TasRail. Today, the Railway Institute still remains, but is now known as the AN (Railway) Institute of Tasmania Inc.. A fledgling private sector is emerging with the opening of the country's first iron and steel works and the development of a chemical industry and other light industries in construction, agro-food and petroleum products. Turkmen gas is now exported to China and the country is developing one of the largest gas fields in the world, Galkinish, with estimated reserves of 26 trillion m3 of gas. Avaz on the Caspian Sea has been turned into a holiday resort, with the construction of dozens of hotels which can accommodate more than 7 000 tourists. In 2014, some 30 hotels and holiday homes were under construction. The country has embarked on a veritable building boom, with the construction of 48 kindergartens, 36 secondary schools, 25 sports academies, 16 stadiums, 17 health centres, 8 hospitals, 7 cultural centres and 1.6 million m2 of housing in 2012 alone.
By Irving Wardle taken from the DNB, Verity Eileen Bargate [married names Proud, Keeffe], Verity Eileen (1940–1981), theatre producer and novelist, was born on 6 August 1940 in Exeter, the second child of Ronald Arthur Bargate, electrical shopkeeper and later sales manager in the London Metal Warehouse, and his wife, Eileen Dewes. Her childhood was disrupted by her parents' divorce in 1944, followed by her mother's departure to Australia, leaving Bargate and her elder brother Simon for four years in the care of their father. When her mother returned it was with a new husband, Clarke Taylor, a Royal Air Force doctor, who installed his new family in air force bases at Hornchurch, Essex, and Bicester, Oxfordshire, and dispatched his stepdaughter to a succession of boarding- schools and holiday homes. In later years she described her upbringing as that of a ‘middle-class charity child’ (private information).

The completion of the PB-008 highway in the past 5 years, linking João Pessoa to Paraiba's south coast's towns and the neighbour and wealthier state of Pernambuco, brought to Carapibus and other beaches in the municipality of Conde a considerable increase in the number of tourists and property speculation. Nowadays it's noticeable the number of construction sites in the outskirts of the town and the properties prices are on the rise. Europeans are the main group of foreigners buying holiday homes and plots of land in the area as Paraíba is the easternmost state in Brazil and very close (and cheaper) to Natal and Recife, two well established tourist destinations in the Brazilian Northeastern coast with their major international airports.
A Best-One corner shop in the United Kingdom Village shops are becoming less common in the densely populated parts of the country, although they remain common in remote rural areas. Their rarity in England is due to several factors, such as the rise in car ownership, competition from large chain supermarkets, the rising cost of village properties, and the increasing trend of the wealthy to own holiday homes in picturesque villages, consequently these houses which used to be occupied full-time by potential customers are often vacant for long periods. Of those villages in England who still have shops, these days they are often a combination of services under one roof to increase the likelihood of profit and survival. Extra services may include a post office, private business services such as tearooms, cafes, and bed and breakfast accommodation; or state services such as libraries and General Practitioner (GP) or Dental clinics; and charity partners such as Women's Institute (WI) coffee mornings held on the day most elderly villagers might collect their weekly pensions.

Elfyn Llwyd, Plaid Cymru's Parliamentary Group Leader, said that the issues in Exmoor National Park were the same as in Wales, however in Wales there is the added dimension of language and culture. Reflecting on the controversy Glyn's comments caused earlier in the year, Llwyd observed "What is interesting is of course it is fine for Exmoor to defend their community but in Wales when you try to say these things it is called racist..." Llwyd called on other parties to join in a debate to bring the Exmoor experience to Wales when he said "... I really do ask them and I plead with them to come around the table and talk about the Exmoor suggestion and see if we can now bring it into Wales".
