Maehwa-cha () or plum blossom tea is a traditional Korean tea made by infusing dried flowers of Korean plum in hot water. The letter Η had been adopted by Greek from the Phoenician letter Heth (x12px) originally with this consonantal sound value, and Hēta was its original name. Dr. Watson enters the drawing room to find Holmes sitting in an armchair staring into the fireplace. Just when he is about to express his exasperation at the pile of papers lying untidily on the table, he sees a syringe in the half open drawer of the table and thinks that Holmes has indulged in a dose of Morphine or Cocaine, but Holmes corrects him saying that his true stimulant in a letter that he has received by the morning post. In 1947, her sister Marie-Thérèse donated a collection of more than a hundred of her paintings to the new town hall in Meknes, where they were to be kept at the permanent exhibition. Currently, only six of her canvases can be seen in one of the buildings of the Meknes city authorities. In the private archives of the de Lens family there is a list of the paintings transferred to city authorities, including photographs of six; the family also owns 20 original gouaches, one of which decorates the cover of the first edition of her diary. Between 1917 and 1919, 23 of her short stories appeared in the Revue de Paris, which were jointly published in 1919 under the title: Le harem entr’ouvert (Half-open harem).

No oil is known to have spilled directly into the ocean, but wildlife experts believe that birds came into contact with oil by entering the ship's cracked hull while diving underwater for fish; during the clean-up, workers pumped 500 U.S. gallons (416 Imperial gallons; 1,893 liters) of oil from the ship and discovered the carcasses of 200 more birds and two harbor seals inside the wreck. The ship continued to deteriorate after the clean-up. While she had over the decades been broken into four roughly segmented pieces, winter storms in February 2016 pushed the wreck onto her starboard side and broke her rear half open. On January 21, 2017, another winter storm tore the stern off the ship.

The Za'aba Spelling (Malay: Ejaan Za'aba) was the second major spelling reform of Malay Rumi Script introduced in 1924. The reform was devised by Zainal Abidin Ahmad or better known by the moniker Za'aba, a notable writer and linguist at Sultan Idris Teachers College. Za'aba's orthographic system principally dealt with the assignment of vowels in closed syllables, distinguished the schwa from the half-open vowel /e/ by a new grapheme , and insisted on the use of hyphens to differentiate affixes or post-positional emphases from the infinitives. The system as devised by Za'aba emphasised the importance to represent the original pronunciation of Johor-Riau Malay, where various modern standards of Malay were derived, that he viewed as the most elegant form of Malay.

The artwork for the original album, created by advertising designer Deanna Galletto, is a drawing of an orange box floating in a blue sky with smoke-like clouds. The box, whose front door is half-open on the main cover, is revealed on the inner gatefold to "contain" six characters, three males and three females, drawn on squared paper and unrelated to the characters in the songs, walking in an idealized Eden setting. The outer jacket does not include lyrics (which are instead featured on the inner sleeve), but contains an interview with De André conducted by Fernanda Pivano. The inner sleeve, along with the lyrics, also includes an imaginary interview with Edgar Lee Masters, compiled by Pivano from various writings by the American author.

On January 28, 2019, WM Entertainment announced that ONF would release their third extended play on February 7, 2019, marking the group's first music release following their second Japanese single "Complete" in September 2018, and subsequently their first Korean release in eight months following You Complete Me in June 2018. In addition, the label unveiled ONF's teaser images on their official social media platforms, portraying a half-open image in a pink envelope stamped with ON and OFF (ONF) stamps and contains a big letter with the message "#ㅅㄹㅎㄱㄷㄱㅇ", which was the Korean abbreviation for their upcoming album title. Two days later, WM Entertainment unveiled the first group pyro-photograph with all members wearing black and red costume, showcasing a "dark" and more "mature" image transition from their previous "bubbly" and "bright" images. The entire tracklist was then revealed on February 1.

Koenigsberg's new approach would require employees to be trained to modify their workplace activities and simply keep the fume hood door fully closed at all times, except when access to the hood's interior work place was required. In addition, employees would now be instructed to limit the fume hood access door opening to the half open position when operating the hood, and only raise it to the full open position when required. This could building exhaust capacity and related energy costs could be reduced by 50 percent. In 1982, Koenigsberg published “Fume Hood Design and Operation”, which described how the new approach to operating the fume hood could cut energy consumption in half and enhance work safety. The opening and closing of the protein is accomplished by the tightening and loosening of salt bridges at the membrane surface of the protein. Substantiation for this modelling of UCP1 on ANT is found in the many conserved residues between the two proteins that are actively involved in the transportation of substrate across the membrane. Both proteins are integral membrane proteins, localized to the inner mitochondrial membrane, and they have a similar pattern of salt bridges, proline residues, and hydrophobic or aromatic amino acids that can close or open when in the cytoplasmic or matrix state.

In his earliest years with Mad, Martin used a more jagged, scratchy line. His style evolved, settling into its familiar form by 1964. It was typified by a sameness in the appearance of the characters (the punchline to a strip often was emphasized by a deadpan take with eyes half open and the mouth absent or in a tight, small circle of steadfast perplexity) and by an endless capacity for newly coined, onomatopoetic sound effects, such as "BREEDEET BREEDEET" for a croaking frog, "PLORTCH" for a knight being stabbed by a sword, or "FAGROON klubble klubble" for a collapsing building. (Martin's dedication to onomatopoeia was such that he owned a vanity license plate which read "SHTOINK," patterned after the style of his famed sound effects.) His characters often had ridiculous, rhyming names such as Fester Bestertester or Fonebone (which was expanded to Freenbean I. Fonebone in at least one strip), as well as Lance Parkertip, Noted Notary Public.

The series had its roots in two half-hour sketch shows entitled Half-Open University which Marshall and Renwick had written with Mason for Radio 3 as a parody of Open University programmes. The first, broadcast on 25 August 1975, spoofed science, the second, on 1 January 1976 and repeated on 1 December that year, history. In a similar vein, The Burkiss Way was styled around fictional correspondence courses by "Professor Emil Burkiss" entitled The Burkiss Way to Dynamic Living, and each episode or "lesson" had a number and a title based on one of the course's subjects: "Lesson 1: Peel Bananas the Burkiss Way", "Lesson 2: Pass Examinations the Burkiss Way", and so on. Although the numbers and titles were maintained throughout the run, a significant change of style early in the second series saw the radio correspondence course become a hook rather than a narrative device, and it was mentioned only in passing.
