The Columbia spotted frog (Rana luteiventris) is a North American species of frog. It is a medium-sized frog reaching lengths of up to three and a half inches (90 cm). Its color ranges from a dark, olive green to light brown with irregularly-shaped black spots on its back and legs (rendering its name). The belly and upper lip are white in color.

Empty casks were used to line the walls of shallow wells from at least Roman times. Such casks were found in 1897 during archaeological excavation of Roman Silchester in Britain. They were made of Pyrenean silver fir and the staves were one and a half inches thick and featured grooves where the heads fitted. Vance investigates the circumstances under which the body was found and reconstructs the crime sufficiently to determine that the murderer is five feet, ten and a half inches in height. Together, Vance and Markham investigate Benson's business associates and romantic interests until Vance manages to pierce the murderer's alibi for the time of the murder and force a confession.

The town straddles the River Camel upstream from Padstow the town centre being on the left bank of the river. For many years Wadebridge was a traffic-congested town (through which the route of the A39 trunk road passed) but in 1991 the Wadebridge bypass was opened together with the Egloshayle bypass causing the two settlements to regain much of their former charm. The main shopping street in Wadebridge (Molesworth Street) has subsequently been pedestrianized through construction of an inner link road, allowing traffic- free shopping. On St Swithin's day 1965 there was a flood in Wadebridge town after five and a half inches of rain fell in four and a half hours around high tide.

Leatherback sea turtles often inhabit open waters but are still sometimes seen on coastal waters because of their title of the most migratory sea turtle species. It is the largest turtle in the world, weighing up to two thousand pounds and reaching up to six and a half feet by their adult years. The shell of the leatherback turtle, also called a carapace, can develop to one and a half inches and is the only shell on a sea turtle that is not hard and boney but rather soft and leather like to the touch. The front flippers on the leatherback turtle are not equipped with scales and claws unlike other species, and they outgrow the flippers on other species of sea turtles.

In January 1862, Haddon Tunnel had been officially completed and buried beneath the estate within 16 months. By the start of the 20th century, inspections of the No.3 ventilation shaft detected movement of around 1 and a half inches at one side of the brick arch and other difficulties such as the accumulation of smoke due to increased traffic levels. During July 1900, the Chief Engineer’s office at Derby planned corrective measures which involved the removing the shaft and 33 feet of arch around it to construct an open box to provide better ventilation.

Sonnerat described the shrew as being five and a half inches [149 mm] from the head to the base of the tail and the tail being one inch and one line or 29 mm. Since no specimen of the species exists, both its taxonomic description and its generic placement remain in question. Mango was a powerfully-built, dark-coated brown horse with a small white star who stood 15 hands, three and a half inches high. According to the New Sporting Magazine he was an honest, but lazy horse who required "considerable exertion on the part of his jockey" to show his best form. According to the General Stud Book he was bred by Charles Greville although other sources state that he was bred by Thomas Thornhill and then sold to Greville. Mango's sire, Emilius, won the Derby in 1823 and went on to become a successful stallion at the Riddlesworth stud which was owned and run by Thomas Thornhill. Apart from Preserve, Emilius’s best winners included Priam, Plenipotentiary, Oxygen, Riddlesworth (2000 Guineas) and Preserve: he was British Champion sire in 1830 and 1831.

The riband of the Order is composed of vertical stripes of the colours blue, gold, black, and white. When worn with the insignia of the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Lucia or the Saint Lucia Cross, the riband is a width of two inches; and when worn with the insignia of the other Grades of the Order, the riband is the width of one and a half inches. The Upper Canada Guardian; or Freeman’s Journal was one of the first opposition papers in 19th century Upper Canada. Its publisher and editor Joseph Willcocks established it after moving to Niagara in 1807 to combat arbitrary power, oppressive land laws, and ultimately create liberty in the province. Willcocks claimed that the Guardian was meant: “to disseminate the principles of political truth, check the progress of inordinate power, and keep alive the sacred flame of a just and rational liberty.” In 1809, Judge William Dummer Powell complained of its widespread popularity and the fact that it was in nearly every household. It was a four-page paper (11 by 17 and a half inches) published between July 24, 1807 and June 9, 1812 and printed in with the roman cursive “f” representing the English long "s".

Lee was also a catalyst of four national championship teams as the Lady Tigers won the NCAA Indoor and NCAA Outdoor team titles in 1996 and 1997. The Lady Tigers won an unprecedented 11-straight outdoor championships from 1987 to 1997. On March 9, 1996, in her first NCAA Championships appearance with the Lady Tigers, she was the favorite to win the triple jump as the event's national champion at the RCA Dome in Indiana. Only one round of jumps separated Lee from her first career national title as she held a comfortable lead with the eight finalists preparing for the sixth and final round. Lee's top mark of 44 feet, 8 inches in the fourth round was seven and a half inches clear of equal jumps of 44-0 ½ set by Georgia's Icolyn Kelly and Nebraska's Nicola Martial earlier in the competition.

Against the elaborate circumstantial case presented by US Attorney Alfred Hantman and his legal team, Roundtree pitted a single fact: Crump's diminutive size. At five feet three and a half inches and 130 pounds, Roundtree argued, Crump was four to five inches shorter and at least 50 pounds lighter than the man described by the eyewitness. The medal is similar in appearance to the British Distinguished Service Cross. Obverse: The medal is a modified cross pattée one and a half inches wide. The ends of its arms are rounded whereas a conventional cross patée has arms that are straight on the end.

Like his fellow hammer thrower Don Favor, Irving Folwartshny was an alumnus of Deering High School in Portland, Maine. Subsequently, he studied at Rhode Island State College, where Fred Tootell, 1924 Olympic hammer throw champion, was track and field coach; Tootell's other pupils included Henry Dreyer and Bill Rowe, both of whom also became national hammer throw champions. Folwartshny placed fourth in the 35-lb weight throw at the 1935 national indoor championships, but his breakthrough year was 1936, his sophomore year at Rhode Island, when his results improved rapidly. At the 1936 indoor championships he won the weight throw with a heave of 58 ft in (17.71 m), defeating Dreyer and Pete Zaremba and breaking Dreyer's world record by four and a half inches; as a world record Folwartshny's throw was short-lived, as Dreyer threw 58 ft in (17.79 m) only seven days later; but as a championship record it lasted until 1951.

The color of a wolf's fur can vary, from the pure white of the largest, Alaskan wolves, through the range of reddish brown. Even the so- called "grey wolves" can include pure black pups in a litter, although grey is the most common color. Wolves have two kinds of hairs; an outer coat of long, stiff hairs called "guard hairs" and an "undercoat" of soft fur which grows thick in the winter and helps to insulate their bodies from the cold; this fur has the advantage of not freezing. The five inch (127 mm) long guard hairs which are shed in spring and summer are waterproof, keeping the wolf's underfur dry and warm. The fur of the undercoat may be nearly two and a half inches thick and help keep a wolf warm even in temperatures reaching 40 degrees below zero.

In September 1915, Love, referred to as "the 'Eiffel tower' slabster of the Los Angeles club", was drafted by the New York Yankees in exchange for $2,300 ($ in current dollar terms). At the time, Sporting Life reported that the Yankees had "obtained the tallest pitcher in captivity" at six feet seven and a half inches tall. When Love returned his signed contract to the Yankees, Sporting Life opined that his addition "will go a long way toward putting New York on the map" and made mention of his "special ball, known as the aeroplane bomb, as it seems to descend to the batter from somewhere in the celestial region." In 1916, Love appeared in 20 games for the Yankees, all but one as a relief pitcher, and compiled a 2–0 record with a 4.91 ERA. Love also allowed 23 bases on balls in 47.2 innings pitched, creating concerns about his control.
