It is of a woman with narrow eyes close to the root of her nose with yellow teeth. He was trapped by fear of her and could not move until the woman steps away from him allowing him to wake up. The narrator later realizes the woman was from a photo in the laundry room. Needing groceries, the narrator drives to the local town nearly having an accident at every hairpin turn.
From 1989 to 2001, the pit road could only accommodate 34 pit stalls. In the early years, some teams were required to share pit stalls while other teams were forced to pit inside the garage area. When cars dropped out of the race, their pit stalls were reassigned to cars who were sharing. After a few years, a makeshift auxiliary pit road was constructed inside the hairpin (turn 11) nicknamed Gilligan's Island.
The circuit is situated on the Long Beach waterfront, and is lined with palm trees (especially along the front straightaway towards the Aquarium of the Pacific), making for a scenic track. Long Beach is classified as an FIA Grade Two circuit. The circuit has undergone numerous layout changes since the race's inception in 1975. All iterations have featured a signature hairpin turn, main stretch along Shoreline Drive, and back stretch along Seaside Way.
PA 371 continues through rural farmlands until a hairpin turn in the deep forests nearby. After leaving the deep forests, the route re-emerges in Damascus Township's community of West Damascus. The route heads to the southeast even further into Fallsdale, where it passes two large ponds and several athletic fields. At the end of the eastern pond, PA 371 turns to the northeast crossing a creek and into the community of Tyler Hill.
The route makes a hairpin turn in the mountains, entering the South Fork of the Sevenmile Canyon. While traversing the canyon there are several view areas along the highway overlooking both Sevenmile canyon, Dead Horse Point, and two rock formations called the Monitor and Merrimac Butte, both named after warships in the American Civil War. Running along the canyon, SR-313 terminates at an intersection with U.S. Route 191 about north of Moab.
The route runs through a mix of farm fields and residential development, heading through the community of Caprivi. Farther northwest, the road comes to an intersection with PA 944. PA 74 passes more farms before it enters forested areas and begins to ascend Blue Mountain, turning northwest and then northeast. The road makes a hairpin turn to the west and crosses into Lower Frankford Township as it reaches the summit of the mountain.
Matthews Bridge (1914-1978) The reservoir is home to several historic bridges, four having been built for roads to cross the reservoir. Loch Raven Drive's original bridge was built in 1906 on a dangerous road that included a hairpin turn which caused many accidents. In 1988 the bridge was removed in favor of a safer bridge. The second bridge was built in 1914 on Maryland 146 and known as the Matthews Bridge.
At the front, Barros takes the lead by passing Laconi at the entrance of the Melbourne Hairpin (Turn 10). Lap three and Rossi is slowly closing the gap to the Telefónica Suzuki of Aoki, as does McWilliams to Abe. Barros meanwhile is opening up a significant gap to Laconi, who is now starting to struggle a little bit. Rossi caught and passed the Japanese at the entrance of Coppice, moving him up into seventh place.
Residential development in Issaquah extends to the park boundary at an elevation of about . The park is accessed from a trailhead (elevation ) at the hairpin turn of Mountainside Drive in the north, and the signed state park entrance on May Valley Road in the south (elevation ). A lesser trailhead is found on the Renton-Issaquah Road on the west (elevation ). Other trailheads may be reached via Sycamore Drive SE and Sunrise Place SE.
Turn 10 at Île Notre-Dame is probably the best example of a 180° hairpin turn design with full wheel lock during F1 competition. The various lines taken entering the hairpin curve can predict overtaking on the apex, or exit during race competition. Braking too late can see racecars offline into the runoff area, and many spinning in front of packed grandstands. Many overtakes can be seen at this location due to engine differences and drivers' racecraft.
Thereafter the line was run by the Ostafrikanische Eisenbahngesellschaft (East African Railway Cooperation), a company which had been created to build and operate the Tanganyika Central Line (Zentralbahn) from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma. Between Pongwe and Ngommi on the Usambara Railway there was a double hairpin turn. Around 1910, a cable spur (the Seilbahn) was constructed to connect the line with the sawmills at Neu-Hornow. On 26 September 1911 the track reached Moshi at Mount Kilimanjaro after .
The current race circuit is a temporary road course laid out in the city streets surrounding the Long Beach Convention Center. The convention center actually doubled as the pit paddock during the days of Formula One. The circuit also goes primarily over the former location of The Pike historic amusement zone. The track is particularly noted for its last section, a sharp hairpin turn followed by a long, slightly curved front straightaway which runs the length of Shoreline Drive.
The farm is set on the crest of Stearns Hill, providing excellent views of the hills of southern Oxford County. The main farm complex is located on the north side of Stearns Hill Road, which executes a hairpin turn in woods below the ridge before rising to the farm property. The main complex includes the house as well as a historic barn, carriage house, and blacksmith's shop. A modern barn stands on the south side of the road.
The cars bumped hard, Villeneuve slid wide but then passed Arnoux on the inside at a hairpin turn and held him off for the last half of the lap to secure second place. Skyline Drive continues southerly to the Loft Mountain Overlook on the east side, where it turns westerly before heading northwest. The roadway then makes a hairpin turn to the southwest. The road straddles the border of Rockingham and Albemarle counties and continues to the south to the Loft Mountain Wayside, which is site of restrooms and food service. Skyline Drive heads southwest and comes to Loft Mountain, where a ranger station, restrooms, campground, and camp store are located.
NY 341 began at an intersection with NY 22 and NY 55 in the village of Pawling. The highway headed eastward along Quaker Hill Road, exiting the village as it wound its way through a mountainous, undeveloped portion of the town of Pawling. It traversed a hairpin turn at Reservoir Road prior to entering Mizzen Top, a small hamlet west of the Connecticut state line. Here, the route straightened out ahead of a T-intersection with Mizzentop Road.
The two-lane highway gains the moniker of Berbal Road and continues along the shoreline. The population along the shore remains consistent for several miles while the landlocked side begins to dissipate along the western side. After an intersection with Anderson Road, PA 415 makes a large lakeside curve, heading to the southeast along lakeside homes. After crossing on another gradual hairpin turn, the route passes a large beach and park, entering the community of Laketon.
In the intervening years, the local geography has greatly changed. , now named , no longer intersects . Although there is still a junction in the same place, it is formed by and two access ramps of the surrounding traffic interchange, the three roads together forming a triangular traffic island inside the hairpin turn where formerly intersected . Josef Valčík (from group Silver A) was positioned about 100 metres (109 yards) north of Gabčík and Kubiš to look out for the approaching car.

The creek takes a sharp turn westwards as it passes by Shumans, where Pennsylvania Route 339 crosses the creek and Beaver Run flows into it. The creek closely follows Catawissa Mountain for a short distance before turning northwards and passing close to McCauley Mountain. It meanders past Dry Ridge and then Full Mill Hill, where Pennsylvania Route 339 crosses it again. The creek makes a hairpin turn northwards and picks up Gap Run before exiting Beaver Township.
François Duval takes a hairpin turn on an asphalt-based special stage in Germany. Rallying is also unique in its choice of where and when to race. Rallies take place on all surfaces and in all conditions: asphalt (tarmac), gravel, or snow and ice, sometimes more than one in a single rally, depending on the course and event. Rallies are also run every month of the year, in every climate from bitter cold to monsoonal rain.
At the north end of the bridge, SR 202 intersects SR 203 in a roundabout, forming the latter's terminus. The highway continues southeast along the Snoqualmie River, passing Fall City Airport and crossing Tokul Creek via a long hairpin turn. SR 202 passes Snoqualmie Falls, enters a roundabout at Tokul Road, and travels south across the Snoqualmie River towards downtown Snoqualmie. From Snoqualmie, it travels southeast through the Three Forks lowlands and crosses the South Fork Snoqualmie River into North Bend.
The first grand prix layout measured 2.02 miles, and featured two hairpins, one at each end of the Shoreline Drive straightaway. In its early years, the starting line and the finish line were located on different sides of the course. In 1982, the hairpin turn and the end of the main stretch (turn 1) was removed, and replaced with a 90-degree right turn, followed by 90-degree left turn. When the race became a CART series event, the layout was changed significantly.
From the trailhead, above sea level it is and vertically to the summit. Facilities for riders to easily mount horses have recently been added to the parking lot. The road heads north, following Hunter Brook for a short distance, climbing very gently on a somewhat rocky stretch of road until it crosses the brook on a wooden plank bridge. Eventually, from the trailhead, it reaches a hairpin turn commonly used as a jumping-off point by hikers beginning the bushwhack up Rusk.
A portion of the trail parallels the Deerfield River for several miles, and passes through the village of Shelburne Falls, and the Bridge of Flowers. The route crosses the Connecticut River via the historic French King Bridge at a height of 140 feet. The road reaches a high elevation of 2272 feet at Whitcomb Summit. On the western side of the summit there is the popular hairpin turn and lookout, overlooking the city of North Adams and the Taconic Mountains.
Kyle Larson led the field to the green flag at 3:22 p.m. With Sonoma Raceway being a more technical (rhythm) road course, brake usage is rather heavy, especially going into the 90° hairpin Turn 11. A few drivers locked up the brakes going into the turn in the early laps, including Daniel Suárez, who was making his first ever start at Sonoma. He flat-spotted his tires on the second lap and made an unscheduled stop the following lap to replace them.
On lap 56 Courtney was in second and Lowndes third. Coming into the hairpin (turn 9) Lowndes went straight down the inside of Courtney and going into turn 11 Courtney turned Lowndes around sending both into the wall. Mark Winterbottom was also caught up within the accident and all three were DNF'ed. The new Driving Standards Observer Tomas Mezera received plenty of criticism, because Lowndes already had done a similar move to Winterbottom and Lee Holdsworth a few laps before.
The route interchanges with Avenue C before becoming an undivided road that reenters Bayonne and crossing over County Route 501 (Kennedy Boulevard) without an interchange. Past this intersection, Route 440 makes a sharp turn to the south and passes under the Newark Bay Bridge (Interstate 78). After making a hairpin turn back to the north, it passes under the Newark Bay Bridge another time and runs along the eastern shore of Newark Bay, crossing under Conrail Shared Assets Operations' National Docks Branch line.
The route turns northeast to ascend Rocky Mountain, a part of the South Mountain range, becoming an unnamed road. The road enters Guilford Township and makes a hairpin turn to the south to descend the mountain, crossing back into Quincy Township. PA 233 curves east before heading northeast through more forests and entering Guilford Township again, where it crosses the Appalachian Trail. The route turns north-northeast onto Rocky Mountain Road and runs through more mountainous areas, heading into Greene Township.
The hill is best known from cycling, as it is one of the many climbs in the Flemish Ardennes featuring in the spring classics. The climb has been included 35 times in the Tour of Flanders. In the early years of the race it was one of a classic trio of climbs, together with the Kwaremont and Kruisberg, called the dromedaries. The climb had a roughly- cobbled pavement with a sharp hairpin turn and a steep gradient at the end.

It appears as a furniture item in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Castrovalva is a lithograph print by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher, first printed in February 1930. Like many of Escher's early works, it depicts a place that he visited on a tour of Italy. It depicts the Abruzzo village of Castrovalva, which lies at the top of a sheer slope. The perspective is toward the northwest, from the narrow trail on the left which, at the point from which this view is seen, makes a hairpin turn to the right, descending to the valley.
Lewis Hamilton won the race from pole position, overcoming a late race safety car period in the process. At the start, Hamilton, Massa and Kovalainen all maintained their grid positions. Hamilton quickly began to pull away from the other cars, at the rate of about half a second per lap. Behind the leading trio, Kubica passed Räikkönen off the grid, and went on to pass both Alonso and Trulli at the hairpin (turn 4), when Alonso's own attempted pass on Trulli delayed both drivers.
The only way in to Lysebotn is by boat or by the spectacular Lysebotnvegen (Lysebotn road) which connects it to the nearby municipality of Sirdal in Agder county. The long road rises over up a very steep cliff, going through 27 hairpin turns, including one hairpin turn inside a long tunnel that goes inside the mountain. The road was opened in 1984 and it is open only in the summer, when it is ice free and safe. The road has its highest point at above sea level.
Sameera denies being in Coonoor at that time, but Vikram reveals her old cellphone was found with Vinay's blood, linking her and Ashok to the Vinay Varma case. Sameera reveals that one year ago, she and Ashok were driving to Coonoor for a rendezvous when she accidentally crashed into Vinay around the hairpin turn. A drunken Ashok accosted Vinay until Sameera made him stop. They arrived at a resort building Ashok was planning to buy and again met Vinay, who was the owner of the property.
During the climb, the scenic route intersects McFarland Road, the original alignment of US 40 that heads west to the official eastern terminus of US 40 Scenic. As US 40 Scenic approaches the top of Sideling Hill, the eastbound climbing lane ends. The scenic route makes a hairpin turn to the north and begins to descend the mountain, again a three-lane road but with two lanes westbound. US 40 Scenic curves to the east and then to the southeast, paralleling and gradually approaching I-68.
The route continues, turning eastward along the hammer-shaped shoreline of Harveys Lake. After an intersection with Carrie Street, SR 1415 reaches a large hairpin turn along the easternmost portion of Harveys Lake, passing several local tennis courts and intersecting with local roads. The route heads westward along Lakeside Drive, entering the community of Harveys Lake, which is populous at the northern side of the lake. After passing a plethora of lakeside homes, SR 1415 intersects with the PA 415 mainline and ends in Harveys Lake.
Louisiana Highway 86 (LA 86) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs in a general north–south direction from LA 182 in New Iberia to LA 31 north of town. LA 86 follows the east bank of Bayou Teche as it makes a hairpin turn in Iberia Parish. It initially heads eastward from New Iberia, the parish seat, then north through the village of Loreauville, and finally in a general southwestern direction to a point almost on the St. Martin Parish line.
SR 11 continues north to Blanchard, where it begins to traverse a narrow strip of land between the Chuckanut Mountains and Samish Bay. Midway between Blanchard and the Skagit–Whatcom county line, the highway travels through a hairpin turn at Oyster Creek. In Whatcom County, SR 11 travels generally northward through part of the oldest state park in Washington, the Larrabee State Park. The highway passes by a sculpture of the Loch Ness Monster that was placed in Samish Bay by a local artist in the 2010s.
Lentiviral delivery of shRNA and the mechanism of RNA interference in mammalian cells. A short hairpin RNA or small hairpin RNA (shRNA/Hairpin Vector) is an artificial RNA molecule with a tight hairpin turn that can be used to silence target gene expression via RNA interference (RNAi). Expression of shRNA in cells is typically accomplished by delivery of plasmids or through viral or bacterial vectors. shRNA is an advantageous mediator of RNAi in that it has a relatively low rate of degradation and turnover.
At the summit, the road makes a hairpin turn to the southeast to descend the mountain. The route curves northeast and then south to intersect the eastern terminus of PA 641 Truck at the base of the mountain. PA 641 continues east into Lurgan Township and becomes Forge Hill Road, winding east through forests and traversing Blue Mountain. Past the mountain, the road heads east into the community of Roxbury, where it passes homes and a few businesses and comes to an intersection with PA 997.
By Japanese standards the circuit is exceptionally flat, with only a slight elevation rise towards the hairpin turn. The road course is much busier than the oval track, with Formula Nippon visiting twice, Super GT and Super Taikyu cars once each, and local events almost every weekend. The road course can be used in three ways: the full course, or two "short courses" can be made, using connecting roadways. These short courses are usually used for junior formula events, such as Formula 4 and FJ1600.
This section from the actual ring into the Potsdamer ring station became known as the Südringspitzkehre (Southern ring switchback or hairpin turn), reflecting the need for trains to reverse there to continue their trip around the ring. Passengers could change at the Kolonnenstraße station across the platform to continue to ride on the Ring without going all the way to the Potsdamer Ringbahnhof. From 1 January 1872 onwards, freight was carried on the line to freight yards separate from the passenger stations. The line was electrified in 1926.
The Calumet Feeder Canal was a short canal in Illinois, operated during the mid-19th century. It connected the Little Calumet River to the Illinois and Michigan (I&M;) Canal, and ran from Blue Island, where the Little Calumet made a hairpin turn toward Lake Michigan, to meet the I&M; canal at Sag Bridge. The canal was completed in 1849, and covered . It was one of four feeder canals built for the I&M;, the others being the Du Page Feeder, Fox River Feeder and Kankakee Feeder.
Farther along, the route winds northeast before heading back to the north. PA 425 heads into forested areas and winds northeast through hilly terrain before curving to the southeast and then making a hairpin turn to the north at the intersection with Indian Steps Road in the community of York Furnace. At this point, the road runs along the west bank of the Susquehanna River, passing to the east of a campground. The route continues through dense forests and winds northwest away from the river through more hilly terrain.
Queen Elizabeth Park Road begins at Saskatchewan Drive, just east of Gateway Boulevard, and descends the North Saskatchewan River valley, passing through Queen Elizabeth Park. In the floor of the valley, next to the Kinsman Park entrance, the roadway joins Walterdale Hill and becomes 105 Street. Queen Elizabeth Park Road is part of the major inbound connect between Highway 2 and the Edmonton International Airport. There have been proposals to improve the Gateway Boulevard connection with the Walterdale Bridge and downtown Edmonton by removing hairpin turn required to access Queen Elizabeth Park Road.
At the end of this run came a right hairpin turn which led to a long left curve around the bottom of a hill. This led onto the back straight of the start/finish area. At this point it was possible to continue onto the Nordschleife or take two sharp right-hand turns in order to enter the starting straight once again. Photographs of the track in use show that trees and hedges were not cut back in many areas, being allowed to grow right up to the trackside.
State Route 194 (SR 194) begins at an intersection with Almota Docks Road, connecting to a grain elevator, and Lower Granite Road, connecting to the Lower Granite Dam. The highway travels north under a rail line owned by Great Northwest Railroad and climbs a hill before turning south in a hairpin turn and turning northeast along a ridge. The road turns southeast and follows Goose Creek through farmland, spanning it four times before intersecting the Wawawai-Pullman Road. SR 194 becomes the Wawawai Road and continues northeast to end at an intersection with (US 195).

This section bypassed and linked Idaho Springs to the junction where US 6 currently separates from I-70 west of the city. The majority of the alignment through Denver was completed by 1964. The Mousetrap reused some structures that were built in 1951, before the formation of the Interstate Highway system.
A small blue car is visible at the right with its brake lamps on, where the road turns back sharply. After the turn, it is slightly downhill from the camera and cannot be seen, although black-on-yellow arrow signs indicate where it is. In the distance, in the top of the image, is a valley with green hills on either side US 44 gradually descends into the upper Harlem Valley, with a sharp hairpin turn providing a panoramic view to the south. A gradual descent takes it into downtown Amenia.
The highway crosses over the river near Wheeler Canyon and continues along its west bank to the town of Klickitat, where it serves as the main street. Beyond Klickitat, the highway turns east and travels along the north bank of the Klickitat River as it enters the Klickitat State Wildlife Area. After passing the settlement of Wahkiacus, SR 142 crosses over the river to its south bank and leaves the canyon by following the Little Klickitat River. The highway makes a hairpin turn to the north along Bowman Creek before reaching the rural Klickitat Valley plateau, high above the Little Klickitat River.
PA 262 eastbound in Goldsboro in 1979, with the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station in the background PA 262 begins at an intersection with PA 114 in the community of Bunches in Fairview Township, heading southeast on two-lane undivided Fishing Creek Road. The route heads through wooded areas of homes and makes a hairpin turn to the northwest to ascend a hill. The road makes a sharp turn to the east and descends the hill, passing homes in the communities of Springville and Frogtown. Farther east, PA 262 enters commercial areas and reaches an interchange with I-83.
The circuit will then follow Boulevard East north to Donnelly Memorial Park where it will turn right and descend Hillside Avenue to a hairpin turn adjacent to the West New York sewage treatment plant. The circuit will then return south to the ferry terminal via Port Imperial Boulevard. The elevation change from Port Imperial to the Palisades, some , would give the circuit one of the greatest elevation changes on the calendar. Although the circuit will pass residential areas, residents will not be cut off from their homes; the organizers plan to provide access to the seven affected residences.
SR 128 turns north onto two-lane Mayflower Drive, which heads east through several industrial parks. North of Odd Fellows Road, the state highway veers east and then north again. For its at-grade intersection with Norfolk Southern Railway's Durham District rail line, SR 128 makes a sharp curve east, passes through a hairpin turn back west, in the middle of which the highway intersects the railroad, and curves north again. North of that railroad crossing, the state highway passes through a residential area and reaches its northern terminus at Campbell Avenue, which features US 460 Business and US 501 Business.
A critical turning point for the race happened on lap 30, where both Toro Rosso cars collided at the hairpin (Turn 14), which resulted in a safety car period. This time however, both Red Bull cars seized the opportunity by pitting for new soft tires. Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel could not take advantage of the safety car period as they had passed the pit-entry after the safety car was called into action. Lewis Hamilton stayed out to preserve track position, although Mercedes had an opportunity to bring Hamilton in for a change of tires.
Highway 87 begins at US 385 in Wind Cave National Park, east of Pringle and west of the park headquarters. North of US 385, the route crosses Cold Spring Creek and provides access to the upstream Lake Norbeck, named after Senator Peter Norbeck, instrumental in establishing several of the national and state parks in the Black Hills. From the start, SD 87 is a very twisting and winding route, with a 180° hairpin turn only a from the southern end. This results in the route taking a westerly track, though it eventually turns back north and crosses Beaver Creek.
The pioneer-era "Six Bit House" was an inn located on the Applegate Trail that passed through Wolf Creek area long before it had a post office. The original Six Bit House was probably built in 1853, near a hairpin turn of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The inn went through several incarnations until the present Wolf Creek Tavern was built in about 1883. The site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is now run by the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department as the Wolf Creek Inn State Heritage Site and is the oldest continuously operating hotel in the state.
SR 26 enters and exits the city of West Point before making an extremely long hairpin turn. Heading westward, the route enters Amador County to its terminus at SR 88. SR 26 is part of the California Freeway and Expressway System, and in the Stockton city limits is part of the National Highway System, a network of highways that are considered essential to the country's economy, defense, and mobility by the Federal Highway Administration. The segment between the community of Mokelumne Hill and West Point is named the Stephen P. Teale Highway, after the state senator.
The drive heads past Browns Gap Parking before it comes to Dundo, where an overlook to the northwest, restrooms, picnic grounds, and Dundo Group Camp are located. Fall colors near Milepost 103 From here, the road continues southwesterly and passes to the west of Jones Run Parking, where a trail leads to Jones Run Falls, before heading east of Blackrock Summit Parking. Skyline Drive winds south past Blackrock and turns to the west. The roadway heads north before a hairpin turn to the south at Blackrock Gap, where it closely follows the border between Augusta and Albemarle counties.
The ridge leading down from the summit to the col with Giant Ledge to the north is an obvious route. DEC had, at one point, planned a trail up it but the idea was dropped when hikers and hunters objected and the route was judged too environmentally fragile to support a trail. It can be used by starting from the Giant Ledge trailhead at a hairpin turn on County Road 42, about 2,200 feet (670.5 m) in elevation. It is 0.65 mile (1 km) to the junction with the blue-blazed Fox Hollow Trail, which leads north to Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain.
At the summit of Blue Mountain, PA 74 enters Spring Township in Perry County and passes through Waggoners Gap, making a sharp turn to the northeast to descend the mountain. The road makes a hairpin turn to the west and then a sharp turn to the north to reach the base of the mountain and head into a mix of farmland and woodland. The route passes through the community of Lebo and continues through rural land, crossing Sherman Creek in the community of Bridgeport. Farther north, PA 74 comes to an intersection with PA 850 in the community of Alinda.

From a large car park, a entry tunnel leads to an ornate elevator that ascends the final to the building. Exiting Redgate, Wainey wastes no time and passes his teammate at the inside to take over the lead, with Lawson going up Kocinski's inside as well to snatch second from him at the Old Hairpin (Turn 4). Fogarty then passes Gardner at the same corner to take fifth, now immediately behind Schwantz entering Starkey's Bridge (Turn 6). Exiting McLean's (Turn 7), Gardner tries a move around the outside of Fogarty, goes side-by-side with him through the short straight and finalises the move entering Coppice (Turn 8). Also at Coppice, Schwantz dives down the inside of Kocinski and takes third from him.

Willis, one of the first English settlers, named the area after a town in his home county of Wiltshire, England. Westbury had been a Quaker community of isolated farms until the railroad came in 1836. After the Civil War, the New York elite discovered that the rich, well-wooded flat countryside of the Hempstead Plains was a place to raise horses, and to hunt foxes and play polo at the Meadow Brook Polo Club.

Morgan's Corner became referred to as a "corner" because the bend curves the road perpendicularly so that from Honolulu one enters the bend from the north and exits to the east or from Kāneʻohe one enters the bend from the east and exits to the north. The namesake came from Dr. James Morgan, who built his villa on the inside of the bend in the 1920s.
As a result, every rider had opted to pick the Rain tyre for the race. All riders take off and do their usual warm-up lap before lining up in their respective grid slots. As the lights go out, Rossi has a bad start when his rear tyre slides, lacking grip because of the wet track on the opening lap. As he loses positions, Frenchman Régis Laconi takes the lead going into Redgate (Turn 1), followed by Barros and Gibernau - who made up eleven positions to catapult himself into third by the time the group arrived at the Old Hairpin (Turn 4).
Waved yellow flags in Turn 1 prevented Schumacher from overtaking Räikkönen on the usual overtaking spot, but Räikkönen made a slight mistake in the hairpin turn 10 and Schumacher pulled even with the Finn in the inferior McLaren. Schumacher was on the outside for the next turn, however, and had to back off, losing some ground in the process. With four laps to go, Schumacher was ready to attack again, but Räikkönen defended brilliantly against superior machinery by taking the inside line for the first turn. The following lap, Schumacher was even closer, drafting behind the McLaren on the main straight.
KY 1039 begins at an intersection with KY 465 near Sparta in Gallatin County, heading south on a two-lane undivided road. The route makes a hairpin turn to the northwest and comes to a bridge over KY 465 before it comes to an interchange with I-71. Past this interchange, the road continues north through a mix of fields and woods with some development, coming to an intersection with KY 1130 (Speedway Boulevard), which provides access to Kentucky Speedway. KY 1039 continues north through more rural areas and comes to an interchange with US 42 west of Warsaw.
NY 299 through downtown New Paltz NY 299 begins at an intersection with the concurrent US 44 and NY 55 just south of Lake Minnewaska in the town of Gardiner. NY 299 winds northeast through the deep woods of Gardiner, paralleling US 44 and NY 55 as it climbs through the Shawangunk Mountains . Passing well to the south of the hairpin turn on US 44 and NY 55, NY 299 bends eastward under control of Ulster County, with the County Route 8 (CR 8) designation. Near Hasbrouck Road, the dense woods recede and NY 299 crosses east through fields through Gardiner.
Another twisty descent takes SR 16 down Brushy Mountain into the Freestone Valley, but almost immediately it must rise again to cross Clinch Mountain. This time, a single hairpin turn takes it into the wide Thompson Valley, where it passes the community of Thompson Valley. A gap between Knob Mountain and Rich Mountain leads to U.S. Route 19/460 Business at Frog Level, just east of the north end of State Route 91. SR 16 turns northeast along US 19/460 Business into Tazewell, meeting the State Route 16 Alternate (Fairground Road) shortcut along the way.
The town of Okanagan Falls is to the north, and the town of Oliver is to the south. The lake lies to the east of Mount Keogan, while British Columbia Highway 97 runs alongside the east shore of the lake, and has a sharp hairpin turn at the Vaseaux Lake Rock Cut which has been the scene of many accidents and deaths. McIntyre Bluff, Vaseux Creek and the associated alluvial fan are to the south; however, it does not flow into Vaseux Lake. Both the north and south ends of the lake are shallow; there is an oval-shaped depression in the center where the lake reaches its maximum depth.

Highway 105 descends the east slope of Kelly's Mountain using a series of sharp turns including a 180° hairpin turn at New Harris Forks before crossing the Great Bras d'Or Channel of Bras d'Or Lake on the Seal Island Bridge. The road crosses Boularderie Island using another short Super two controlled access segment and then runs southeast as an uncontrolled access road through the villages of Bras d'Or and Florence. Highway 105 regains controlled access for the final to its eastern terminus at the Marine Atlantic ferry terminal in North Sydney where travellers can continue to Newfoundland. With some minor exceptions noted above, the highway is two lanes and uncontrolled access.
The name "Calumet" is from the French colonial name for a particular type of Native American ceremonial pipe that served as a universal sign of peace among the Illiniwek, and which was presented to Pere Marquette in 1673. Before human alteration, water flowed westward from LaPorte County, Indiana, along the Little Calumet River, made a hairpin turn at Blue Island, and flowed east along the Grand Calumet into Lake Michigan at the Miller Beach community of Gary, Indiana. The area is extremely flat and the course and even the direction of the river system has changed repeatedly. The low gradient gives the river only a very small current.
On lap 10, the Surtees of Austrian Helmuth Koinigg, in just his second Grand Prix, went off in the hairpin turn 7 where Regazzoni, Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Andretti had crashed in practice. Koinigg's car suffered a suspension failure pitching it head-on into the Armco barrier, as in François Cevert's fatal crash at The Glen one year earlier. The speed at which Koinigg crashed was relatively minor, and he ought to have escaped the scene uninjured. However, as with a number of other circuits at that time, the Armco was insecurely installed and the bottom portion of it buckled as the vehicle struck it.

Since the track made a hairpin turn at the end of the stadium, there was a turning post called a kampter (καμπτήρ) at each end of the track to assist the sprinters in negotiating the tight turn -- a task complicated by the shield carried in the runner's off hand. US 44 and NY 55 in orchards near Plattekill US 44 begins at an intersection with US 209 and NY 55 west of the hamlet of Kerhonkson in the town of Wawarsing in Ulster County. NY 55, concurrent with US 209 southwest of this point, turns east onto US 44, forming an overlap as the two routes proceed eastward across Ulster County. Midway between Kerhonkson and Gardiner and just north of NY 299, US 44 and NY 55 traverse a hairpin turn made necessary by the surrounding Shawangunk Ridge. Farther east, the road passes through the hamlets of Gardiner and Clintondale, and meets US 9W in the hamlet of Highland.
It heads further northeast through Newhalem, a preserved company town for Seattle City Light, and the narrow Diablo Canyon to the Diablo Dam and Diablo Lake, a reservoir that is colored turquoise blue. The roadway makes a long hairpin turn around the southern arm of the lake, crossing it at a narrow point and passing a scenic viewpoint, and continues northeast to Ross Lake. From Ross Lake, SR 20 follows Ruby Creek and Canyon Creek, heading southeast out of the national park and back into Skagit County. The highway crosses Rainy Pass and briefly joins the Pacific Crest Trail as it travels around Whistler Mountain, climbing up into Chelan County.
SR 20 turns north and crosses Washington Pass into Okanogan County, making a hairpin turn and beginning its descent into Eastern Washington. SR 20 travels northeast along Early Winters Creek and the base of Delancy Ridge towards Mazama, where it meets the Methow River. The highway continues southeast along the north side of the river to Winthrop, an old-west-themed town where SR 20 forms the main street between two river crossings. SR 20 heads south through Twisp to a junction with SR 153, where it leaves the Methow River and turns northeast up Frazer Creek towards Loup Loup Pass and the Loup Loup Ski Bowl.
Soon after Alonso moved ahead of di Resta, justifying Ferrari's radio call to Massa. At this stage it was clear that Rosberg, Vettel, and Räikkönen were on two-stop strategies while Button, Hamilton and Webber were on track for three stops. Pérez was third on lap 35, but under huge pressure from Lewis Hamilton and was locking up his front tyres heavily while defending into the hairpin, turn 14. Rosberg, having continued running on his hard tyres for 21 laps, finally decided to pit on lap 34 for his second and final stop - meaning he would need 22 laps from this set of medium tyres.
PA 333 begins at an intersection with PA 103 in Granville Township, Mifflin County, heading southeast on two-lane undivided Hawstone Road. The road passes homes, turning northeast and heading through rural areas of residences before turning southeast again and running a short distance to the southwest of Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line and the Juniata River. PA 333 continues east and then northeast alongside the railroad line and the river as it runs along the base of forested Blue Mountain, passing through Shawnee and Hawstone. The route continues into Milford Township, Juniata County and becomes an unnamed road as it continues through forests, turning south before making a hairpin turn to the north.
In the south the Krumm drains to the Fils, in the east the Rechbach and in the northeast the Tobelbach over the Waldstetter Bach to the Rems and in the remaining north the Tiefenbach with its source arms Felbenbach and Gießbach further west and down into it. Coming from Straßdorf in the north, the L 1159 climbs the lower northern slope of the mountain in a large Hairpin turn and then runs on its middle eastern slope to the larger settlement part of Rechberg at its southeastern foot. From there a road on the southern slope opens up the smaller part of the village in the west and then descends into the valley of the river Krumm.
With Rossi starting on pole but being swamped by the Factory Ducati of Loris Capirossi and the Gresini Honda of Gibernau, he was demoted to third on the opening lap. He bounced back however by re-overtaking Gibernau at the Melbourne hairpin turn 10 and then Capirossi for the lead at the Foggy chicane on lap two. Edwards meanwhile, was moving up the field, overtaking the Ducati's of Troy Bayliss and Capirossi on lap three, then closing in on teammate Gibernau and passing him for second place on lap five. Gibernau was +0.400 seconds behind Edwards but couldn't do anything about the ever- increasing gap he pulled as the race went on.
The second crossing would have been a spectacular, tall steel trestle on a hairpin turn over the B&A; and the Quaboag Valley. In Millville, Massachusetts, the SNE would have passed over the Blackstone River on another (straighter) high-level bridge, with both the New York and New England Railroad (now abandoned) and the Providence and Worcester Railroad (still in use) below. Several full-height supports were built as well as several partial supports in the river. The two above trestles were built for steel; however, one major trestle was made of wood and was actually built: a 1,000-foot long, 55-foot tall "beanpole" trestle over the French River and the New Haven-controlled Norwich and Worcester Railroad.
The connecting ramps were not opened that day because the aluminum guard rails had not been delivered on time. Estimates indicated that each resident of La Jolla would save 80 hours per year by using Ardath Road. A ramp from southbound I-5 to westbound Ardath Road was never completed because of a hairpin turn that would be necessary due to the towering cliff on the west side of I-5 that Ardath Road ascends as it continues to La Jolla. On November 18, San Clemente Canyon Road was connected to I-5 when the aluminum guard rails arrived and were subsequently installed. San Clemente Canyon Road was not fully opened until 1967.
At the 2016 Indianapolis 500, Stefan drove the No. 25 KV Racing Technology car in honour of his elder sibling. The name of a hairpin turn on the Snetterton Circuit's 300 layout was changed from Montreal Corner to Wilson Corner by the track's owners MotorSport Vision in July 2016; a board at the corner features the design of Wilson's multi-coloured rainbow racing helmet and his surname. The Wilson Children's Fund was launched with the support of his widow Julia to ensure their two daughters would be financially secure in the long-term following his death. Contributions are raised through the auctioning of motor racing memorabilia on the internet and by public donations.
The Somali coast then takes a hairpin turn back southwest to complete the horn of Africa. For six months of the year the monsoon winds blow from up equatorial Somalia, past Arabia and over the small Yemeni archipelago of Socotra, to rain on India; they then switch directions and blow back. Hence the east- and especially southeast-coast boundary of Arab Africa has historically been a gateway for maritime trade and cultural exchange with both East Africa and the subcontinent. The trade winds also help explain the presence of the Comoros islands, an Arab-African country, off the coast of Mozambique, near Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, the southernmost part of the Arab World.

Foothills of the Himalayas seen from the Manas National Park, Assam Assam covers the plains of the upper portion of the flood plain of the Brahmaputra River, which flows from east to west before entering Bangladesh, where it turns to the south. The south of the state includes the plains of the Barak River basin. This river originates in the Manipur hills and flows south through the mountains of Manipur to Tipaimukh, where it makes a hairpin turn and flows north along the Manipur-Assam border to Jirimat near Lakhipur, then west through the Cachar district of Assam before entering Bangladesh. The Brahmaputra and Barak basins are separated by the Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills.
The race course presented an impressive challenge for competitors, starting on the beachfront corniche and winding up a steep hill with a rock face on one side and a sheer drop to the sea, protected by a stone wall, on the other. Ito then loses out a bit entering Degner (Turn 8), immediately being hounded by fellow Japanese Fujiwara. At the Hairpin (Turn 11), Honma tries a move on the inside of Crivillé but thinks better of it and stays behind. Further back at the same corner, two riders have crashed out of contention: Michael Rudroff and Jeremy McWilliams. Rudroff is seen pulling his bike off of the circuit with the help of a marshall, McWilliams is pulling his own bike from the ground with the help of another marshall and two other marshalls are cleaning up the circuit of the debris, McWilliams also pointing out that there's some oil on the middle of the circuit.
Rouen-Les-Essarts was a motor racing circuit in Orival, near Rouen, France. From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The street circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 metres to Gresil at 149 metres, with gradients over 9%. Rouen hosted five Formula One French Grand Prix races, the last one in 1968 resulting in the tragic burning death of Jo Schlesser, at the fast downhill Six Frères curve.
At the Craner Curves, Lorenzo takes a tighter line and passes Rossi for the lead, followed by a surprising Elías who not only manages to pass Pedrosa at the outside of Hollywood but also blasts past Rossi on the outside, outbraking him at the Old Hairpin (Turn 4). Entering Starkey's Bridge (Turn 5) and the Schwantz Curve (Turn 6), the duo at the front has now opened up a gap to Rossi already, though he manages to close it relatively quickly. Elías then dives down the inside of Lorenzo at McLean's (Turn 7), surprising the Spaniard and taking over at the front halfway into the first lap. Both Repsol Honda riders - Pedrosa and Dovizioso - then pass Rossi on the short straight before Coppice (Turn 8).
Kadugannawa Ambalama (Sinhala:කඩුගන්නාව අම්බලම) is a historic wayside rest that is found – on the left, when traveling from Colombo to Kandy, a few metres before the Kadugannawa Hairpin turn aka Kadugannawa pass. Built during the early 19th century during the British colonial rule in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), the Ambalama is now more than 200 years old A popular stopover for horsemen and merchants traveling from the lowlands to the ancient hill capital Kandy, this structure resembles the Kandyan Era architecture and is of archaeological value. It was renovated by the Ministry of Tourism under the technical guidance of the Department of Archeology at a cost of Rs. 300,000.00 and now this structure is considered a national heritage item of Sri Lanka.
West Ox Rd is a stretch of the original Ox Rd, first dug by Robert Carter I and the Frying Pan Mining Company in the 1720s atop a gentle ridge, with occasional views of the Bull Run Mountains and Blue Ridge to the west. It has been in constant use since then and has kept largely the same path. West Ox Road was originally the main route between Fairfax and Reston before the Fairfax County Parkway was built. It was much more winding then; at one spot there was a barn about 2 feet from the two-lane roadway, where there was a hairpin turn, and SR 664 (Waples Mill Road) joined West Ox Road at a very sharp angle.
US 6/US 11 leave Clarks Summit and become Northern Boulevard, a five-lane road with a center left-turn lane that passes through a business district. The road passes under a viaduct carrying I-476 (Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike) before reaching a junction with the southern terminus of PA 407. A short distance later, US 6 splits from US 11 at a trumpet interchange onto a freeway that heads north, with US 11 continuing southeast along Northern Boulevard toward the city of Scranton. US 6 soon exits at another trumpet interchange, with the freeway becoming I-476 and making a hairpin turn to the southwest, and heads east a short distance to a trumpet interchange with I-81.
Route 2 proceeds east from the New York state line on a winding, scenic path in Berkshire County through Williamstown, where it serves the Williams College area and through North Adams, where it serves the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. East of North Adams, Route 2 ascends via a hairpin turn into the Hoosac Range along what is known as the Mohawk Trail. Route 2 then enters Franklin County, meeting Interstate 91 at an interchange in Greenfield and briefly runs concurrently with I-91. While the old Route 2 becomes Route 2A and goes through downtown Greenfield, Route 2 exits off I-91 as a short expressway before becoming a two-lane freeway. Outside Greenfield, Route 2A temporarily ends and merges with Route 2\.

Grossglockner High Alpine Road in autumn 1997 Hairpin turn near the summit When, in 1924, a group of Austrian experts presented a plan for a road over the Hochtor (the high pass), they were ridiculed in a time when in Austria, Germany, and Italy there were only 154,000 private automobiles, 92,000 motorcycles, and of long-distance asphalt roads. Austria had suffered from the catastrophic economic results of losing the First World War, had shrunk to a seventh of its imperial size, lost its international markets and suffered devastating inflation. Even the modest design of a gravel road, with overtaking points, appeared too expensive. The impulse for building a road, which was meant to open up the barren alpine valleys to motorized tourism, was given by the New York stock market slump in 1929.
At the narrow Strubben hairpin (Turn 5), Simoncelli has a huge moment trying to take Lorenzo's second place and highsides out of the race, taking down Lorenzo with him, promoting Dovizioso up into second and Stoner - who had passed Edwards by going down his inside at Strubben for sixth and fifth at the Veenslang, into third. This has allowed Spies to build up a small gap over the Repsol Honda duo of Dovizioso and Stoner. Further back, Valentino Rossi - who is now sixth thanks to the collision between Simoncelli and Lorenzo - is fighting for track position with Factory Ducati teammate Nicky Hayden at the Ruskenhoek (Turn 7). Both eventually manage to get their bikes restarted but are now very far behind the pack, who has almost completed the first lap by now.
The five planes which raised loaded cars to the summit at Rix's Gap were replaced by eight planes on a completely new alignment, the separate light track was extended from Waymart to the head of the back plane at Carbondale, and the back plane was eliminated. The water-powered planes on the light track had already been replaced by stationary steam engines, and all planes were being operated by steam. The new light track contained a radius hairpin turn at Panther Bluffs which became known as the Shepherd's Crook, later providing extensive views when passenger service between Carbondale and Honesdale was started in 1877. The planes were re-numbered consecutively starting at Carbondale, following the loaded route to Honedale, then back on the light track to Olyphant, and finally up the loaded track to Carbondale.
SR 39 begins at Ryder Gap at the West Virginia state line, which also serves as the boundary between George Washington National Forest and Monongahela National Forest and between the James River and Monongahela River watersheds. The roadway continues west of the state line as WV 39 toward Minnehaha Springs and Marlinton. SR 39, which is named Mountain Valley Road, passes through a hairpin turn on its descent of the dividing ridge, then follows Big Turn Run to the valley of Little Back Creek, which passes by the hamlet of Mooretown. At Mountain Grove, the state highway turns south to follow Back Creek through a gap in Back Creek Mountain. SR 39 ascends the east side of the mountain along O'Rourke Draft, then descends to the Jackson River.
On July 20 during the 15th stage of 2008 Tour de France, Pereiro crashed at the 89 kilometre mark over a guardrail just prior to a hairpin turn during the descent of the Col Agnel landing on the other side of the turn, which meant the end of the Tour for him. Initially, he was thought to have broken his femur and arm, but later it was learned that this was not the case. He suffered a broken arm but never lost consciousness and was taken to a nearby hospital in Cuneo. During this Tour, Pereiro was working for team captain Alejandro Valverde but when it became clear in the Pyrenees that Valverde had lost too much time, he and Valverde managed to maintain placings in the top 20 riders.
The two-lane Going-to-the-Sun Road is quite narrow and winding, with hairpin turns, especially west of Logan Pass.
