The Buehman Studio appears to have been financially successful from the beginning. To meet the growing demands of his business, he built a two-story building on the eastern outskirts of town in 1881. The $10,000 building had space for several shops on the ground floor with a photo studio located on the upper story.
In its original layout, the main entrance at ground level was located to the left of the garages, and consisted of oak doors that opened into the lobby. In 1840, Brickfields Free School held its last lessons and in September 1841, its pupils and staff moved to a new purpose-built premises at Saint Luke’s Cross.
