Maurice Denham played Chief Inspector Maigret in a series of three-quarter-hour dramatizations of the novels on BBC Radio 4 beginning in 1976, with Michael Gough playing Georges Simenon. The format of each play would begin with Maigret and Simenon sitting together discussing some fact or event which would then lead into Maigret's recounting a particular case, with Simenon asking questions or commenting from time to time. After Denham's death, the series was continued in 2003 with Nicholas Le Prevost playing a gruffer, more earthy Maigret and Julian Barnes playing Simenon.

The movie is set in a hospital where "strange" people are sent. One of the older, gruffer patients, is Onuki, a business owner who is sent to the hospital after a heart attack, thinks little of the other hospital patients, and hopes to die without being remembered by such "worthless" people. Another patient, a young girl named Paco, is in the hospital due to a memory disorder- she can only remember the events of one day at a time. Each day she reads a pop-up children's book, and often asks Onuki to read to her.

Edwards was officially introduced as the Temptations' new lead singer on July 9, 1968, at a live show in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and the group enlisted extra security to prevent Ruffin from attending and disrupting their shows, Edwards would make his on-record debut with the next Temptations album, Diana Ross & the Supremes Join the Temptations. Two key supporting characters are men from the Sulu Archipelago nicknamed "Nux" and "Bryonia;" the gruffer characters in the book refer to them as "niggers." The two become friends and companions of Sam Steele, and are presented as unflinchingly loyal, reliable, courageous, caring, strong, and resourceful.

The year 2000 saw the release of The Dark Ride, a more experimental and darker album than their previous releases. It came complete with downtuned guitars and a gruffer singing style from Deris. Immediately following the tour, Helloween parted ways with guitarist Roland Grapow and drummer Uli Kusch. One version of events states that Weikath, Deris, and Grosskopf felt that Kusch and Grapow, in particular, were spending more time on and paying more attention to their new side-project, Masterplan (Grapow's output on Helloween albums had dropped to barely one song per album by that point); since the others believed that Kusch and Grapow were not one hundred percent dedicated to Helloween, they were dismissed.

"High High" received acclaim from music critics. Spin named the single the seventh greatest K-Pop song of all time, commenting that the track "grows gruffer and faster as it buttaflies higher and higher" and concluding "this is how LMFAO and Far East Movement want to sound." Billboard chose "High High" as one of T.O.P's most memorable songs, with Tamar Herman writing that the "G-H-E-T-T-O E-L-E-C-T-R-O" chant on the track's bridge "remains one of the most catchy and baffling moments of Bigbang's career." Additionally, the single's music video was named by Stereogum the fourth best K-Pop music video of all time, with Tom Breihan writing that the track "does poppy American club-rap better than any American has done it in many years" and that GD & TOP "appear to be having more fun than anyone else on the global pop-music landscape" in the music video.
